Tabbyz, well, I know of couples who choose to abort after finding out deformities.
In that case, they had to deliver the baby. I remember they posted their experience on their blog.
The KKH nurse just put the drip with meds to induce labour and left them on their own. Then the husband delivered the baby on his own. The baby was still alive and struggling when born. The nurse just took the baby away and left the baby in the crib to struggle and slowly die.
They shared that they regretted their decision after seeing how perfect their little baby was when born, although with deformity. I think the deformity had something to do with the spine if I recall correctly.
That is why my hubby and I made the joint decision that we will take whatever baby God gives us, whether 'perfect' or not.
So we opted out of the DS test.
I had friends that did not even do the 20w detailed scan cos they made the same decision as us. BUT, I chose to do it cos I want to hv mental prep & hv time to prepare if we are welcoming a special child (also wanna hv an opportunity to do scan and see baby in detail [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]).
It's really up to individual. I don't blame ppl for choosing to terminate the pregnancy because of defects cos everyone's ability to cope and level of family support is different. Also, their financial status may not be in the best interest of the child also (as in can't afford therapy, etc etc).
Me & hubs decided that we will go through with whatever is presented to us, even if we are gonna struggle or have to give up all luxuries
It's a serious issue to think about.
I borrowed a lot of books to give my hubs a mental picture before we discussed about it.
