Hi all,

This is my first time posting and would really appreciate if I can get some advice here. We've been trying for 2 years and finally got the diagnosis from KK last week that my husband has low morphology for his sperms, 1% to be exact, when the normal rate should be 4% or more. Was wondering if anyone has tried IUI with this condition and still got pregnant successfully or should we just go straight to IVF / ICSI? IUI was recommended by the KK Dr. Jerry Chan.. Not sure if anyone has any reviews on him? Please help me decide.. my first appmt with IUI will be in 2 weeks' time. Thank you all!

Hi Chloe, did you go for IVF/IUI in the end? I'm wondering the same too. My husband has been diagnosed with <1% morphology. Based on what I read online, there's no difference in IUI success rates between those with high/low morphology but because IUI success rates are low to begin with, there are few successful cases to speak of.

Wonder if anyone came across forum members who previously got pregnant via IUI despite husbands low morphology?

hi! My husband has the same issue and we conceived via IUI for our first born. He's 22 months now. :) It is possible...
As for which type of assisted contraception, I'd advice checking with your specialist because there are other factors to take into account when making recommendations.

Thanks missus_wong for bringing some cheer with your positive experience. It certainly helped :)

My hub have the same issue.. but I'm still in dilemma whether to go for IUI after gynae suggested.. I myself have go thru test and everything is norm for me.. So does that mean we can just go for natural IUI? How much will it cost per session?

natural IUI is quite low cost $300-500 I think.
Super ovulation SO-IUI is like $1.2-1.5k for the additional meds and injections. (private rate)

IUI can definitely help male factor, and just need min 2mil sperm . You just need that one sperm.

My hubby's count was super good, but still our SO-IUI failed prob due to me. my success chances given by my doc was super low ... 4-8% he said. but we still wanted to try.

How old are u ? if u are young, and time on yr side, then try IUI. it's relatively cheap.
I wasted alot of time before I decide on IVF

How is your husband motility? Motility is the forward movement of the sperm, like how fast it can swim forward. If motility is good, can give iui a try. Imagine, if the sperm cannot swim fast in a forward motion, it probably will have much difficulty reaching your egg to fertilise it.

Motility is 44/40 so consider good. Only mophology is 2/4

Hi dear, do u mean 300-500 inclusive of consultation, wash sperm + procedure?

hi ya
This is NUH subsidised, consultant is abt $30-35, so yah...forgot to mention... depends where u go and PTE or Sub rates
I'm going private. So I guess will be around 300-500. Thanks dear! So for normal IUI , do I need to have any injection?

@Rine_YM
I guess private wld be abit more. Depends on what yr doc give u.

Some may or may not give u pills Clomid/ Letrozole and Ovidrel/ Trigger shot. just one.

SO-iui may have the pills and more injections.

Hi dear, can share who's your gynae? U did normal IUI? How many times did u went to the clinic before the procedure is done? How much u spent for 1 time IUI (pre-consult, scan, actual procedure, washed sperm) ?

hey babe sorry for the late reply! I'm with Prof PC Wong. The first pregnancy was normal iui...and usually it's day 12 scan for follicle size then another time for trigger shot then finally IUI. So 3 times in total. Eh...it's about 1k+ for IUI.

@missus_wong can I check with you - how many days of leave did you take for your IUI? :)

Hi! Just want to update all that we failed our IUI but managed to conceive last month i.e. The month after the IUI, so it's possible even if morpho is not good! Still can't believe it and I hope everyone's wishes come true!

Hi Chloe. My husband (34y.o) also has 1% normal sperm shape which made me upset. He doesnt smoke and drink. We had healthy diet. We are trying to conceive for 5-6 month and I thought something is wrong. And we tested his sperm and analyses are bad. The count is ok but motility and morphology is very low. The doctor prescribed to us Proxeed Plus and it is very expensive. I still hope to conceive naturally otherwise I cant imagene this horrible needles inside of me. So we are drinkning fresh carrot juice and carob juice, eating walnuts and tomatoes. Hope it will improve his sperm quality. What about you? Does vitamins or diet improved his sperm? Anyway good luck on natural pregnancy.

HI Miffy, congratulation you managed to conceive naturally. By the way, did you take any supplement at the same time?
