Anyone have BLOCKED fallopian tube

Hey Mel, wish u a smooth op this monday! jiayou!
I tink I can only afford to go to KK when I'm financially able to.
I have spent most of savings on seeing different gynaes and specialists
sad.gif

1) went gynae at TMC, ultra scan says everything ok. prescribed me one cycle of (cant rem wat medicine) ask to to start TTC. No good news
2) went another gynae at TMC, sent me do HSG. Found my left tube totally blocked, right tube left a very very slim line. So he performed a procedure to help me 'flush' my right tube and asked me start trying.
3) Few mths later, still no news, colleague recommend me a gynae at Joo Chiat. Showed him my HSG report, he shake head asked me go op! but warned me that might harm my tubes during the op which will lead to cannot conceive forever! faint right?
4) went Dr Fong Yang. Showed him HSG report. he says I have endometrosis as well! I think I have enuf bad news from all the gynaes *sob sob*. He asked me to perform lap followed by IVF. Must be done within 6mths cos endo might reoccur. Or take 3 - 5 Jab (cant rem the name) to stop my menses for ard 3-6mths to 'shrink' my womb size then do IVF. Jabs not cheap, IVF more ex ...
So I turn to TCM hoping to 'tiao' my body. months past by... guess I reli broke liaoz haha so turn to temples... pray for miracle
Guess its always the case bah, those who didnt reli want bb, will conceive very easily. But pple like us, tried everyting we can to have a bb...

Hey Jean...I just came back from some Christmas shopping..hehe
I've also spent a bomb in seeing all the gynaes. For the past one year plus after the m/c, I think I've seen gynaes non-stop. Most of them told me I don't have problem. As I managed to conceived before (although ended up with m/c) they said that my tubes should be fine. Obvioulsy there were all wrong.
I then went to a fertility specialist, and before I sat down, he suspected I have PCO and prescribed me with metformin and some jabs. Obviously I was misdiagnosed and that cycle failed.
My hubby suggested for a HSG xray test and found out about my tube problem. My colleague recomended me to a gynae and he suspected I have endometriosis too causing my tube problem and my monthly lower back pain before menses. So now hopefully this laparoscopy can fix the problem.
Which TCM are you seeing? I am thinking to see one to 'tiao' my body too after this surgery. Previously I visited the one at Clementi for one cycle and got a BFP after that. But sadly it didnt survive.

Hi all,

I am diagnosed with blocked tubes today. Terribly upset. Does anyone tried any natural remedies and/or massages and managed to clear the blockage?

My gynae suggested IVF but I am not certain. Not sure what I should do. Feeling very lost, upset and tired.

Hi Moaoyo,
How did you confirm about your blocked tube? Through HSG? Is it one or both sides? I've read about massage healing but I am not sure if they have it in Sg.
I've just done laparoscopy surgery less than 2 weeks ago. The doctor tried fixing whatever possible but I'm sad that he mentioned my left tube is badly damaged. My right has adhesion on the outer right tube and he has cleared it. But he mentioned the tube may not function properly too. Plus during the lap he found that I have endometriosis. My doctor suggest that I have a monthly jab for 4 cycles to curb the endo. I'll be doing that in Jan.
Did your gynae give you any other alternative besides ivf?
I know how you feel but please cheer up and don't give up!

Hi Mel,

Thank you for yr encouragement.

Yes, I did HSG yesterday. The radiologist said that he cant see my tubes (both). Showed Dr Charles the film the same day. He said that there are 2 options (1) to check if they are both blocked or is just spasm (not sure if this is the right word) and to remove a fibroid (he said is on the outside, shd not pose any prob during pregnancy if not removed) at the same time or (2)IVF

He said, if our goal is to have a baby, then IVF is the way to go.

Not sure why I have blocked tubes. My twin sister has two healthy kids. There is no fertility prob in my family.

I am so upset. Cant help crying...

Hi Moaoyo,
You went to Dr Charles? Is it Charles Lim?
I was with him but decided to switch gynae when decided to do the laparoscopy.
If you wish to check is it blocked or you mention spasm, how do you check this? Is it also through laparoscopy surgery? Did the doctor give you the option try to unblocked?
Is your tube swollen? For me, I also don't know why am I the one having this prob. I think having blocked tubes are very individual, so nothing got to do if your twin sister has kids.
How long have you been ttc? What's your next plan?

Hi Mel,

I have been TTC for more than 2 years.

Yes, its Dr Charles Lim. He advised that the only way to find out if is a fake block, is by way of operation. I am not sure if that operation is called laparoscopy. He said if is a fake block, the doc just need to massage the tubes and they will open.

I am not sure if my tubes are swollen. I have 3 pictures in my film. The first and second ones, can see anything. There is a third pict, which I can see the right side of my tube.

I am not sure why the Docs (radiologist and Dr Charles) said that both my tubes are blocked. If i can see the tube in the third pict, doesnt it mean that the highlighter did flow through?

My next plan... dont really know.

I am hoping that my hubby will discuss with his parents. If they desperately want a grandkid (hubby is only son), then I will be considering IVF.

What is endometriosis? what are the jabs for?

Morning Moaoyo,

Are you feeling better?

Well, I think the best is ask your doctor in more detail to ease your worry / confusion about 1 or 2 tubes being blocked.

I've been married for 5 years plus and ttc for nearly 3 years. During August last year, I had a miscarriage once. I wonder if its the D&C that caused my tube to have infection and now swollen and damaged!

Endometriosis is a disease where the lining of the womb (endometrial tissues) is spilled into other parts of the reproductive organs including the fallopian tubes, ovaries and the back of the womb. Mine must have been in the fallopian tube i guess.
The jabs I mentioned is GnRH agonists is treatment for this endometriosis but I don't know exactly how it works. Still contemplating about it as I am worry about its side effects.

Actually, I've been thinking of taking the IVF route. See how it goes. But on the other hand also worry about it, as I worry too much. Read that there is toxic fluid if tube is swollen and this will lower the chance of success even if IVF. The doctor didn't cut it off as he is worry about scarring. Actually last time Dr Charles, said if beyond repair he will cut it off. Cut and don't cut also problem. Arghhh....

Age is catching up with me. I'm 32 this year. How about you?

Hi, you could try tubal canalisation. it is conducted in the x-ray department. i did tubal canalisation at sgh. they managed to unblock both my blocked tubes. but they could tell me that my tubes were irregular in shape. and chances of tubes getting blocked again will happen. that was almost a year and a half ago.

i did lapascropy before that, but the gynae did not manage to unblock my tubes. i felt that the lapascropy was a waste of time and money.

i went for my 2nd ivf a few months after the tubal canalisation. got pregnant, but my baby had trisomy 18 and i terminated the pregnancy at 4.5 months.

i have decided not to do any more surgeries to my tubes, since they are so blocked up and irregular in shape.

Sorry to hear about that Babykate. Are you ttc naturally now?

I'll read more about tubal canalisation. But my gynae told me my left tube is already badly damaged. The HSG xray showed that it is swollen.

May I know where did you go for your IVF last time?

not actively ttc naturally. it just feels like its a hopeless cause. i went for a frozen embryo transfer in oct this year, which was not successful.

last ivf was dec 11. will be starting my third ivf cycle in feb 12.

Do you think your ivf not successful due to your tubes? cos I read if there is toxic fluid in the tube it will hinder implantation. I'm worry about this should I decided on ivf.

You will surely succeed since you did once. Don't give up and keep on trying.

I mean may I know which gynae you are with for your ivf?

i believe my first ivf was unsuccessful because of the quality of my eggs. it had nothing to do with my tubes. none of the doctors so far have diagnosed my tubes as the the attriubuting factor to the failure of ivf.

moreover, i did get a successful implantation at my second ivf, just that my poor baby girl had trisomy 18.

you may want to check with your gynae if toxic fluid will hinder implantation. i am not so sure about that.

i am with dr christine yap. her clinic's at mount e.

i am 32 this year too.

feel free to PM me if you like more info about ivf. i found myself isolated as none of my friends had to go through IVF at my age. i had no one to turn to and learn things by myself.

Hi Babykate,

Thank you and I will surely PM you if I decided to go thru ivf. But I give myself another few months. Now I think I will follow my gynae's advise to take the jabs for 4 cycles to curb the endo first.

Actually I'm really confused on what should I do. Most of my friends are all having babies already although they married later than me. I even quit my stressful job last month!

Hi ladies,

I am feeling slightly better. Couldnt really control myself the last few days. Kept bursting into tears. Always felt tearing when coming back to this topic. I went back to work last fri. Coincidentally, everyone i met asked if i was pregnant. Maybe is the dress I am wearing or that I have put on too much weight. But it was really too much to bear that day.

The radiologist who did the HSG for me said that he cant see both of my tubes. Dr Charles Lim confirmed the same from the x ray film. He added further that, the fertility issue should be due to the blocked tubes. Becos, in my earlier cycle, we were trying out Dunium (not sure of the spelling, but i think is something like clomid)and my eggs are reacting well to the medication and injections. We thot we would be successful. Because of the failure, I suggested to Dr Charles to check on tubes whether there may be blockage. Maybe is a hunch / sixth sense. My heart sank when the radiologist told me immediately after the HSG that he cant see my tubes.

How is tubal canalisation done? is it painful? HSG was quite painful process for me.

I am also 32 this year (2011).

Hi Moaoyo,

First of all, Happy New Year to you! May your heart's desires be fulfilled this year...

If your tube is blocked with minimal damage, there should be some ways to unblocked I supposed. Perhaps, you should consult the doctor if the surgery he proposed can correct this problem. For me, it's more problematic as tube is swollen and damaged although only the leftt.

Hey, when I was with Dr Charles, I also was on Duimin and Gonal F jab. And when my cycle failed, I also asked the doctor to check on my tubes. In fact it was my hubby who requested it...hehe.

HSG was still tolerable for me. Only nervous as didn't know what to expect.

Hi Mel,

Happy New year to you too! May all our wishes come true this year. May we be blessed with good health and good wealth.

I think the prob with mine is that the tubes are not showing on the x-ray. I guess there is no way to tell if they are swollen or damage, unless another HSG or Laparoscopy or tubal canalisation is carried out?

Does anyone know the charges for Laparoscopy and/or tubal canalisation? I think Dr Charles quoted me around $14k (including removal of a fibroid)

Mel, your threshold for pain is quite gd huh? when the radiologist "blow" the balloon within me and coupled with the cold air conditioning, I felt helpless and painful.
sad.gif

Which gynae are you with now? is yr doc more exp than Dr charles? How do you find this Doc? More caring? or juz "out to make money"?

Dont really know what should be the next step for me. Really hoping miracle to happen.

Hi Babykate,

I read from the messages above that you have done tubal canalisation before.

Comparing Tubal canalisation to HSG, is the pain similar? do they administer GA when performing Tubal canalisation? Does tubal canalisation cause any damage to the tubes?

Thank you in advance!

they administer GA for tubal canalisation. i did mine at sgh x-ray dpt. cost only about just slightly pass $1K. no pain felt, since you are under GA. just stay for 2 hours in the hospital for the GA to wear off. no discomfort felt after waking up. they will give you 2 days mc though, just to rest i guess.

the procedure does not damage the tubes. it is to help unblock the tubes.

they will give you a cd of the numerous number of x-ray images taken and of cos a report on the outcome of the procedure just before you discharge.

Hi Moaoyo,

You are right that my threshold for pain is quite high. During HSG, it felt like I had menses cramp and wanted to lausai...haha!

My current gynae who did the laparoscopy for me is Dr Peter Chew. He checked 6 things for me eg. tube, womb, ovaries etc...I can't really remember the details. He then corrected any problem found as much as possible. He cleared my polyps, adhesion etc which he found during the procedure.

I paid about $8,500 including one night stay at a single ward room @ Gleaneagles. I supposed it will be slightly cheaper if you go home on the same day.

I wasn't very comfortable(especially my hubby) with Dr Charles, so that's why I decided to seek a second opinion. What disturbed me was during my first visit, just as I sat down, he said that most prob I have pco. So I given some medication for pco. Obviously it was my tube which is giving me problem and we were the one requesting for tubes to be checked.

So you gonna try tubal canalisation?

Hi ladies,

Thank you for the prompt response.

Sounds like tubal canalisation is a gd option for me. Babykate, do you still have the contact details?

Mel, I am comfortable with Dr Charles. But same as you, I was diagnosed with PCO. Was prescribed with Metformin pills. When you go for yr second opinion, did yr current gynae confirm that you do not have PCO? I still have a lot of Metformin left, wondering should I just finish them or get refund fr Dr Charles. I wonder if there is any side effect from taking Metformin.

When I did HSG, I also felt menses cramp. But it was more painful than usual. Very comfortable. Even though Dr Charles administer a painkiller earlier.

Yes, maybe I should try tubal canalisation. Laparoscopy seems too exp for me.

Moaoyo, I also have alot of Metformin left. I didn't bother to get refund cos I remembered it was quite cheap..few dollars perhaps.

My gynae said its unlikely that I have PCO, as I have my monthly menses and I do ovulate. He suspected I had endometriosis after I had pain when he used his finger to check me. It was further confirmed through the laparoscopy. Today I had my first jab. Hope I don't get any bad side effect.

Let me know the outcome should you try the tubal canalisation...

Hi Ladies,

Do you know if i can perform tubal canalisation without any doc referral?

Any particular type of blockage should not seek tubal canalisation?

My menses also come every month and always around the same timing.

Will let you know after I decided to perform Tubal canalisation. Not sure If I should check with Dr Charles first?

Keep me posted of yr progress.

Take care!

sorry for the late response moaoyo.

i am not sure if you can do a tubal canalisation without referral. you can call the Dpt of Diagnostic Radiology of SGH at 63214232. Dr Tan Bien Soo carried out the canalisation for me.

you can only do the canalisation after your menses is cleared.

cost me $1,068 at SGH to do the canalisation procedure.

Hey Babykate,

No prob. Thank you for your clarification.

Sorry to bother you with a few more question:
Is Dr Tan your gynae? or is he only in charge of the x-ray process? Did he explain to you the results at the end?

Thank you once again.

Dr Tan is not my gynae. he heads the Diagnostic Radiology department in SGH.

I was referred to do the tubal canalisation in SGH by my ivf doctor. and he conducted the procedure for me. there was no specific doctor which I was referred to.

he did come by to see me when i woke up from the GA to explain the results.

Hi Babykate,

Thank you for the clarification.

I guess, I have to ask Dr Charles Lim to refer me for Tubal Canalisation then.

Just wondering if the expenses can be claimed under insurance? :p

Updates - spoke to Dr Charles yesterday. He doesnt appear to be willing to discuss anything about Tubal canalisation. He merely advised that he doesnt perform that procedure and asked me to source for a doctor on my own (when I ask him for referral). Haiz.

Hi girls,

I am back.. and I wished I am back for the good news but worst news. I am new to this thread but not new to forums chat here.

I would like to pour my story out and to share and to hear from peers in the same boat...

I started to register here back in August 2010 with my first pregnancy that got miscarriaged... and then in Dec 2010 got preggy again and was chatting worriedly for the 2nd pregnancy and lost it again...

Hence, I am here with 2 m/c and almost 90 days of no period/cycle didnt start till after 90 days. Around May 2011, i was diagnosed with anti-immune system disease something like that ..but no remedy required, specialist said - just be happy all will be fine...

Keep trying till Sept 2011- feel not right...coz cycle became longer and period became shorter (ie not much blood from day 1). Went back to same gynae in May 2011 from gleneagles(fired my first gynae from gleneagles too; who did twice my d n c); and this new gynae - did a scan and all said - all is fine...

SO keep trying to no avail... and women's 6th sense, around Nov 2011 - asked my GP to recommend another gynae who listen attentively my whole entire story and experiences and immediately suggested I do HSG.

And there I was in Dec 2011 - almost a year later, after 2 times m/c - I had both tubes blocked. Most probably due to all the DnC which may have caused infection and the blockage!!!

TODAY - consulted this 3rd gynae from Mount E- for solutions. He suggested Laparoscopy to see what exactly blocked and a detailed view of whats happening etc. I thought i sure will do the lap,but he sort of to ask me think through all the possible consequences - if blockage cant be cleared - i got to do IVF etc etc. so we ended not havent done anything yet and left his clinic.

my hubby hesitated and said, lets leave, think through and ask for 2nd opinion.

True in fact, a friend of mine, instead of jumping straight to Lap procedure, did another time of HSG ie flushing under stronger pressure and yes! her tubes cleared and she has got twins now. she didnt have to do the lap procedure.
But whats the differences? she hasnt got any m/c history like me.

So, i m very lost of what to do. Hubby became distraught, and drowning himself into work while here I am , trying to read more, understand more, and crying out to Lord for help.

Who has done HSG in KK? who has a good doctor who is very experienced in blocked tubes? ANy recommendations?

Babykate - I think you are a brave woman indeed, and I agree with you - the doctor want to earn money and immediately asked me to do lap, but i want to do another stronger flushing and see how it goes. agree?

moaoyo: a typical gynae cannot conduct tubal canalisation as it has to be done by the x-ray department of a hospital, i.e. it has to be via a x-ray specialist. have you called Dr tan of SGH? are they able to do the tubal canalisation for you without referral?

sweetpaine: i went for hsg first, then a laparoscopy. the gynae will also do tubal flushing during laparoscropy. that was what happend when i did my laparoscopy.

frankly i am not too sure what else the gynae can do during laparoscopy to unblock the tubes, as I was just certified that my tubes were just too blocked to do anything else.

personally, no harm to do HSG. it is a much cheaper option.

perhaps you should try hsg and see what is the outcome before deciding on the laparoscopy.

sorry, but i did my hsg at paragon. am unable to advise on hsg in KK.

how about seeing a sinseh to regulate your body clock?

i have been seeing a sinseh since last year May after i delivered Kate to heaven and i found that the herbs do help regulate the body clock quite quickly.

hi Babykate,
I am not sure if blockage of tubes can be cleared by the herbal? I have been eating the herbal powder from my sinseh whom i have been seeing since my 2nd m/c in Jan 2011 D&C. and went back to her in sept 2011. finished 2 more bottles before finding out that my tubes are blocked. i might change her to another sinseh. would you recommend urs? mine is chen mei er at cambridge road.

which stage are you in now in your trying? still on ivf? my worst case solution is ivf but i really don want to; and will leave that as last option, i want natural ways..

lets speak again soon

sweetpaine: i meant seeing sinseh to regulate your period, as you were saying that you are having problems with your period. drinking herbal concoctions cannot unblock the tubes.

i will be embarking on my third ivf in feb this year.

Hey Ladies,

Not sure if you are still visiting these post. Just want to update all on my current status.

Further to my HSG procedure in Dec, we decided to try tubal canalisation to unblock the tubes, after Chinese New Year. Subsequently, I visited and consulted with the DR from SGH (Dr as recommended in the thread above).

Suppose to schedule a date for the operation after the first day of the coming menses. But my menses did not come.

We waited for another 2 weeks or so. Tested POSITIVE at home. We were thrilled.

It is a miracle baby. Baby arrives when we least expected. My baby is currently 12 weeks. Just want to remind all to never give up.

After Dec's procedure, there was a few chances to our lifestyle, not sure if it has anything to do with it. You may just want to consider:
- Hubby and I ate more veg. Thrice a week, we will eat vegetarian meals. Not strict vegetarian. Just do not eat meat.
- Bought royal jelly and I ate one every morning before breakfast
- when we baby dance and hubby ejects, I will do several times of the internal squeeze (not really sure how to describe, is like trying to stop urinating. Squeeze and un-squeeze)
- every night before sleep, I will massage my abdomen area and do hip lifting (around ten times slowly)

Hope the above helps!

Take care all...

Hi all! I am jean (hopehope), I couldnt login with the old a/c so gota register again.

Congrats moaoyo! its really a good news!

Its been a yr...still no good news for me.
just when I am financially ready to go for Dr SF Loh at KK, he went over to TMC! *sob sob*
Now really duno which good gynae available at KK...

anymore good news ladies?

Hi jean,

I was a patient of Dr Sadhana from KKH. She did my IVF and she's a nice lady. you may want to try her. I have a pair of twins from my very first attempt!

Before i went for my IVF, i have done HSG and also diagnosed with hydrosalpinx for my right tube. Eventually did a laproscopy and found that the blockage was very bad and had the tube removed. It's a day-op, can't recall exactly how much i paid as this was 3 yrs ago but should be in the region of $2K.

Good luck!

Hi bubbly_me, that's great!
Because I had done my HSG at TMC last yr march.
so if i were to go to KK now, I can straight away book for Dr Sadhana?

Hi Jean,

You can call up KKH to make appointment to see Dr Sadhana under KKIVF Centre. Dr Sadhana runs gynae clinic too so you may need to be more specific.

Hi bubbly_b, thanks!
maybe i have 'listened' to too many stories abt IVF so honestly, i'm still quite scare to go for it.
Its not only financially stress, it's really alot of mental and emotional challenge too!
I really admire and respect all IVF mummies!
I am really not too sure I can do the jabs myself
sad.gif

Hi Jean,

Yes, actually not so much of financial stress, lot more of mental and emotional stresses esp when someone fails the cycle.

But then again, if we don't even give ourselves a chance to try just because of our fears, we are not being fair to ourselves. For me, my mentality is....even if i fail, at least i gave it a shot!

don't worry about the jabs, the nurses will teach you and guide you for the first jab...thereafter you will gain confidence with each jab...at the end of my cycle, i can jab with 1 hand and FB at the same time! heheheh...

good luck!

I'm in my mid 20s and was told I have a blocked fallopian tube last week.

Went to see a gynae today and was told to undergo lap.

I read up online and it seems people usually go for HSG first.

But I also saw that KKH has a new technology which is similar to lap, only that it doesnt need any surgery. It's called Transvaginal Hydrolaparoscopy (THL)

Anyone tried it before?
I'm very worried and have no idea which procedure to go for. I have made an appt at KKH but the wait is almost a month.

HSG?
Lap?
Wait and see KKH for THL?

I am going for my HSG in TMC this Wednesday. Being on 2 cycles of clomid + utrogestan, yet no news. Time to check for any blocked fallapion tubes.

Hi ladies, i did my hsg & found tat both my tubes are blocked. Diagnosis is hydrosalpinx. Doc suggest go lap but warned if tubes damaged, have to remove. If both removed, then there goes my chance to conceive naturally. I dun wanna go for lap coz it may cause scarring & high chance of ectopic pregnancy. So nw im trying tcm to see if it helps.
Btw, i also have endo so i need to act fast b4 te endo recurrs. So wat do u ladies suggest i shd do? Im seeing another gynae for 2nd opinion next wk..

hi pinky, i hesitated at the beginning and drag for a yr! i was worry and scare too and financial issue too.
but the mthly menses cramp is affecting my life seriously... so I planned my financial and decided to do the lap op but with a good doc!
yes u are right, during the op, you might loose the tube or both which some gynaes told me too but i am confident with the doc so somehow i did it!
blocked tubes might caused ectopic pregnancy too. it happened to my fren
sad.gif

during my recovering ward, a lady lying opp me went for lap op to unblock both tubes but unfortunately, her left tube according to her doc cannot be unblocked...
so I'm glad I've chosen the correct hands
