(2010/07) July 2010 MTB

Hi ladies,

just had my week 16 scan this morning, gynae said that this bb is most likely to be a girl!! My boy is having a mei mei. But need to confirm again in 5th month detailed scan to be 100% sure.

Happy to have 1 boy and now 1 girl. Can close factory le.

My OSCAR test ratio result is 1:8200, gynae said is v good, so no need to go for further test le. Phew! [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Praying that everything will be smooth.

Bliss, I'm having a gal too!

Just had my 16 week scan today. My gal is at 9.3cm.

Everything looks good so far[IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Hi Valeria,

congrats! [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] good that bb is growing well. Mine also about 10cm now. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

sun_tan, have you start using babyplus? i started couple of days ago.. weekday i can only use once at nite.. only weekends use twice. seems difficult to commit to use it daily at the same time, especially up coming cny.

Rabbit, i havent start mine yet cos i only coming to 16th weeks. Need to wait for at least 2 weeks. Ya i think it would be hard for me to use it at the specific timing every day too, cos normally i do OT (for these few mths), so the time which i goes home everyday also differs..think only weekends easier to stick to the timing. So did you feel your bb kick in response to the sound? [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] cant wait to start on mine.

sun_tan, ohh okok.. i trying to fix it at 8pm at nite.. while having my dinner.. abt bb responding.. hmm i can feel it once or twice.. i think still early to feel it every time..

Hi mummies, i am thinking of purchasing a breast pump. Currently there's a spree for Medela pumps but not sure how to choose the right one for me. Do you have any recommendations, even for other brands?

if you are serious abt breast feeding then definitely the medela pump in style.

but if on budget, the Ameda dual electric does a great job [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Hi All Mummies,

Do we need to buy breast pump now (I mean before BB born) ma??

Or after BB born... Cos i hear is like mummy will not sure whether will have milk or not right??

Am I right??

sweetkiss

the current trend is to buy the freestyle, but if u look into the wts thread, many are selling it off too as quickly as they got it for various reasons... one advantage... it is v light

i like pis bcos it's been in the market for a long time. 2nd hand ones are also v good. as long as motor is fine and pump is working, buying a 2nd hand set is not a real prob.

jasline

u r right... u dun need to buy one now. what u can do is try breastfeeding ur child all the time ... that way u dun need to express but if u r returning to work and want to continue to bf, u shd get a pump. also, one other reason to get a pump is because u may want to hv a gd nite's rest and hand over the nite feeding to hubby so that he can feed bb w bm... so for that u may need a pump if not hand express...

btw, u will hv milk, just how much and whether u hv enough for bb or not...

pillow, the medela PIS is no longer available right? i wonder if the medela freestyle is just as good?

hi, anyone experience rashes & itchi during 16 weeks pregnancy??? my tumnmy & boobs full of rashes & so icthi [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif](

babycoco, i got mine 2nd hand @ $200. there is a authorised distributor selling at $288. if you want 2nd hand, you may want to look around in this forum.. i still see ppl selling.

Thanks mummies~!

Yea i dun mind second hand too but I hope to get the right one that is suitable for me. Most prob i will be breastfeeding but need a pump when i return to work. So currently still researching around.

Pillow: I will check out the Ameda~ thanks!

pump or no pump?

if you are committed to breastfeeding, to the point where bb will be w you 24/7 (every 2 hr feeding)then no need for a pump. you may be physically up to it, but your nipples may not be that ok for the first couple of wks (particularly for first time mummies). during those early period of cracked nipples (yes, they bleed!)and pain, the pump helps for a couple of days while they recover.

i feel pump is the most essential for the 1st couple of months coz the confinement lady / hubby can take over the feeding while u rest or say, you need to be out for a couple of hours, no worries as you have expressed breast milk on standby to feed.

yup, PIS is the old one. but my fren has the latest one, she says its fab! so if you are not stopped by the price, definitely go for it. otherwise for the not so serious type (unsure abt to bf or not / those that just intend to feed 3-6mths), then the ameda is value for $$ as its dual (the other breast start leaking when u pump the other), the motor is strong, you are done in 20mins both sides.

Jasline: I agree with Jellypurin. Maybe don't buy first. For me, cause my neighbour did not use hers so she gave it to me.. my mum dun have enough milk for me and bro last time round, so dunno will it be the same for me or not. But since free, so I just take and keep first. Hehe!!

Chelz: I do experience itch.. mostly on my boobs now. Sometime scratch until the boobs also red red. For stomach, after I had apply the stretchmark oil, I seldom experience itchiness anymore.

Re: Constipation

Yesterday I had constipation.. it was torturous.. I had to use force to push it out.. and sure enough, i bleed again. But it stop after that.

I quickly went to drink a cup of prune juice.. very effective.. after two hours like that, i went to the toilet to do my business with ease.

Maybe those who are suffering from constipation and try prune juice.. at least it works for me. Hehe!!

Re: Baby Movement

Yesterday night when i lie down on my side to sleep.. dunno whether i imagine it or it is real, i feel 3 continuous punches / kicks from BB. I told hubby and he quickly tell BB to stop playing and go to sleep. Then I dun feel anymore movement le. Haha!! Hopefully it is not my imagination.

morn mommies

chelz

i suffer the same problem as u... i am an acute eczema sufferer... so my rashes comes in bloom in places i hate the most! elbows and toes... now it's spreading to my tummy and bum... going to ask my gynae to see if any medication helps... i'm dying of itch!

Jellypurin, I suffer from Eczema too (only waist down). I take particular care with the kind of soap I use, the food I eat (avoid nuts and for me... seafood also). Please also take note of the kind of clothes you wear... this will irritate skin.

The moisturizer that I use is the one from Body shop... mango flavour. This is very good for my dry skin.. quite expensive so (about $28.00).

As for the scars from the eczema.. i use "Eumora Bar" to clear up the ugly ugly unsightly scars.

I have tried all kinds of creams in the past but it is only short term gal. Eczema is a problem that is "inside out and not outside in".

Oh Oh before I forget... Ezcema has to do with emotions too... more stress... more breakouts.

My gynae also told me that due to hormonal changes now I would suffer breakouts... I did during first trimester... but now it is gone.

Hope that helps.

Ann (Pann) the baby kicks are very mysterious. I too have wondered many times if I am imagining it.

But I must say that those kicks are very very reassuring... I love it [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Hi mummies

i also got eczema .with this pregnancy.on face, buttocks and breast.. PAst 2 pregancy no problem skin all very good. After using the SEBAMED face & body waash solution, it improve abit.

We cannot eat any how medication, my GP recommed me Sebamed Wash and vitamin C tablet to heal pimples.

Hi everyone,

Just to share: if you are really keen to bf your bb for as long as possible, it's worthwhile to invest in a good pump, esp for first time mummy (can still use your pump for no 2 and so on). Should you encounter difficulty latching your bb at least you have your pump readily as a back-up. Otherwise, it may be quite stressful to get a pump last minute when you are experiencing engorgement.

yup, the same feeling as pohling.

by day 4 in hosp, my breasts were like going to burst, with such painful sore nipples that every latch was excruciating. the moment i went home, after i pump, it was such a relief.

i guess the media and tv somewhat downplay the real difficulty of first time mummies on the latching. It looks like a breeze (just put bb on breast right?) but erhmmm, in reality, its not exactly so….

hi pillow, i always wonder how difficult it must be to breastfeed, because so many of my friends, relatives seem to give up after a few days. what do you do when your nipples are sore, cracked?

babycoco

bcos of sore and cracked nipple, i almost gave up! plus the fact that i do not hv much milk, breastfeeding was the thing that got me into post natal blues... but i hanged on even though my ger was on partial fm and bm... hvg some is better than none for ur bb so if you are set to do it, keep going no matter how difficult that is!

morning mummies...

gosh... sounds scary... dunno if i can manage in the future. *crossing fingers*.

but if we haf any probs w bf, we can always get help from consultants?

dqueen

u can ask for consultation but after delivery, the consultation is not foc. u may want to learn to get ur bfing techniques right during ur hospitak stay and make the lactation consultant teach u until you are comfortable

re: cracked/sore nipples

when that happens, u can use nipple creams/cold packs or pump to relief the pain and to heal ur sore nipples. most imptly is to get ur latch right w ur bb [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Hi babycoco, which is also why we always hear our mummies say not much milk so stopped very soon. Actually for most, the milk doesn’t really come in / stabilise supply after 1-2 wks. Continuous latching promotes supply which is why nipples become sore , cracked and bleeding. Imagine your nipples are sensitive and tender? Your bb sucking real hard and yanking at it throughout the entire day + nite

Sore, cracked nipples apparently the best way is to apply your own breast milk and airdry. There are also nipple creams to try. that's when the pump come in handy to relieve pain.

Totally agree with jellypurin, the beauty of breastfeeding is yes, it does put first time mummies (not sure abt second time, I shall feedback in july :p) into post natal blues.

Morning all,

regarding breast feed, I met a nutritionist once (she's the owner of the lost dog), and she advice me to massage the nipple with olive oil from 4-5 months onwards. She said it'll help moisturise the nipple and closer to delivery, it'll help to stimulate milk flow, she said that there'll be some milk coming out in late pregnancy when we do it and that it'll be easier to establish milk flow when BB is born. Haven't started trying or search for anything related online.

I guess I'll buy a small bottle of olive oil and put it in the bath room and start trying, since olive oil has no harmful effects.

pillow

i hope i am more successful w bfing my #2... i always thot i was such a failure cos i did not managed to bf her totally...

noknok

massage is one way to go to get ur milk going but i am always short of time when u r bfing on demand [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif] no time to rest and massage, i guess

My 1st son i had hard time breast feeding him because, inlaws both mil and fil always there watching at me. Their 1st grandSON .. They more excited than me.. When Rayhan cry, they will say i not enough milk so hubby listen to them and bought powder milk Dumex MAmex . I sooo sad .. I go into POST NATAL BLUES as i felt they dont care how i feel and they only care for my son. Our first child normally we not sure how to breast feed and we cannot have stress around us. We must relax and have determination .I pump for 2 months plus mixed feeding powder alternate hours. Rayhan drink milk every 2 hours.

2nd son was a bliss. No body watching or giving me pressure. So just put baby to the nipple he drank soo well. HE was breast feed for 6 monthsno powder milk. As long we can meet the demand, the supplu flow will be continuous non stop.

This 3rd one i hope to breast feed till i go back to work and i will pump as long as baby want to drink.

Pump i used last time was Avent manual pump. Now i not sure want to buy pump or not. Maybe buy 2nd hand pump keep for emergency incase breast swell or nipple sore...

Wah.. sound like quite tough to do breastfeeding.. getting quite scared and worried le. I also very easy succumb to stress one.. hope i dun go into post natal blues.

ANN - Actually if you have determination and if you first mummy buying a pump is good..

Our breast milk is free of charge and somemore we can lost weight faster.

No need to bring hot flask, milk powder container and room temperature water when we go out.

Just bring our breast and towel to clean up.. Anywhere bb want milk we can give.

i really enjoy the days i breastfeed my 2nd son .. Its the bonding we have and till now he is very close to me.

babycoco, i got my babyplus at 2nd hand too. I got it for $100 but the previous owner didnt apply for the warranty, thus its cheaper.

As for breastfeeding, i have also heard ppl saying they got not much milk, but i have also heard from others saying there is no such thing so not enough milk? Its just how diligent and determine we are to breastfeed...i also lost and dunno who to believe..for 1 thing, i know that papaya soup boiled with fish bones will help to stimulate more milk supply.

this is what i feel.. just incase you are unable to latch properly.. doesnt mean you have to stop, still have to standby breast pump and continue pumping, let your body know and generate milk supply. so that the milk supply wont stop. meanwhile you can get consultant to guide you along. 1st few days milk supple sure low. this is what i got to learn from attending a seminar recently. prenatal classes sure got mention also.

for me, i will get ready breast pump before delivery, and bring to hospital, just incase hospital doesnt have enough to rent us (i have friends telling me that they are unable to rent pumps from hospital)

I am waiting n already learning with my gfs who breastfeeding their 1st child... 1 had 2 close experiences with 2 of my close gfs that let me tag along them when they feed their bb... hee ... only the day of delivery may be super tired as less than 1 hr after delivery, the nurse comes with bb ready to start sucking... i have decided to BF my bb, so i will be very firm to mentioned abt privacy when i am feeding... only my HB/nurse can be with me when i feed.

At home no one accept ppl who knows my tattoos... hahaha as my ILs family no one knows abt it ... lolx...

Rabbit - 6 years ago I never heard KKH got breast pump to rent ..

It is true 1st few days of BB born our milk not much .. So better to pump just to stimulate the milk flow as our baby is still in DAZE trying to adapt with the new environment ..Or sometimes bb need to be inside incubator..

For 1st time mummies i really suggest for a pump. And never give up . Breast milk is good for the BB brain and immune system .. Unless really cannot breast feed due to medical reason than we go for milk powder ..

Actually how do we know if we can breastfeed or not due to medical reason? Can we ask our gynae? Should be able to tell by now or need to wait till later?

Hmmm.. how abt buying a manual pump for the first few months when we're still on maternity leave.. I read that in case we have engorgement, feeding on one breast and hand pumping the other helps to clear the blockage too.. Then after milk flow is establish then buy e electrical pump. At least hand pump not that ex.

sun_tan

i have a few frens who had medical issues that could not breastfeed afetr they deliver. before delivery, a little too early to say that u cant

noknok

hand pump may not work for every one and a hand pump may take sometime to empty ur breasts.

Manual pump is great ... Lighter and portable too .. No need worry battery flat or no electric supply.

I have been using Avent Manual pump for both sons..

Gina Ford's book 'Contented Little Baby' is a very informative read for breastfeeding and sleep training baby.

2 of my gal friends follow her feeding schedules and the babys are trained to sleep from 7pm to 7am the next morning. I'll have to be very disciplined to follow but It'll be worth it to try. Important to have couple time after baby arrives!

curious abt hand pump. imagine electric pump, 20 mins done. but handpump for 15-20mins, then have to proceed to the other side. means all in 40mins? i did hear pple mention that manual pump may yield more milk.

Pris, my neighbour follows Gina ford's. her daughter is very disciplined. but she did share the process w me, which pretty much needs to be hardhearted to let bb cry it out. her hb couldn't take it. so at night he has to leave the house, take a walk outside.

Hi Ladies after reading it is obvious that during BFg we have to be very relaxed. Im quite prone to stress too. The only person who stresses me most now is my MIL.

Im attending yoga classes to calm my nerves, improve breathing exercises and during mild stretching excercises only for pregnant women. I dont overstrain myself.. I do it slowly.

I love the breathing exercises that really helps me relax.

Moreover, I told hubby that I dont want anyone to come and visit me and disturb me once Im discharged from hospital. I want to use that time to bond with the baby and to copy with the BF. First baby so all is too new to me.

I cant imagine anyone looking at me when I am BFg... eeeeeeeeee

This morning topic seems to be on breastfeeding. I happened to went in to youtube to watch some vidoes on breastfeeding last night. Can find some good information from there.

By the way, CNY coming. Just wondering if MTBs here will take "Yu Sheng"? Since it has raw fish in it, i am wondering if we should take.
