mummies

yesterday brought my gal to polyclinic for the pneumococcal vaccine & develop fever 37.7, hv feed her med & now sleeping.

just to share that this vaccine done @ polyclinic was jab on her right thigh. i ask the nurse isn't this to be jab @ buttocks, she say no. And when i ask her what abt the private practice, she is unsure.

any mummies here can comment?

Win,
my gal got her jabs since birth on either on her right thigh or left thigh for the rest of her vaccines. the only jab at buttock is taken when she was born in tmc.

ju

i saw blood ooze out & feel so painful for her. she cried so bitterly & on e way back, shes playing & 'talking' loudly in the bus, back to her usual self.

shes ok , can eat play, drink. never did i realise she will hv fever this morning.

jasc & twinkle

oh i see. now to flash back, ya the only buttock jab was done @ tmc. blur mummy.

previously the vaccines were all done @ pediatric tmc. usually i dun see the pd jab. i keep looking at her expression & together anxious with her.

only this vaccine took at polyclinic cos can utilise medisave.

Jabs:
When my gal got 1 jab its on thigh as she didnt catch any fever. But when its 2 jabs it will be on both thighs at a time and she will have fever. Thus after going home I use Pigeon Fever cold pack on forehead and paracetamol syrup (though fever is not there give atleast one dose as it will relieve pain). She will recover by morning.

Re: Jar foods, Cereal.
Can I know mummies why you all feeding Rice cereal still? From babycenter if you feed food like adult (reduce chilly, salt) at a later stage they will not have liking for junk food. And introducing all foods (except those high danger ones) they are likely to show less reaction to allergy to most foods.
It is interesting to know that when you are BF whatever confinement food or good food you take you are passing that exotic taste to baby. Then why be so injustice feed them cereal which is so tasteless.
No offense just my view point apart from Babycenter one. I made a visit to Dr. Siva and he said I can proceed to give her all foods that we eat but reduce salt, chilly, seasoning. When asked If I can give Si sen brown rice ..he ask "why you want to feed when you can make at home?" well good question.
I am feeding her fruit/ rice etc., home made including home made cereal.

sgpv,

I have been giving my girl chopped food, porridge for a month already. No more cereal actually... SOmetimes when I eat out at the restuarant.. I will give her the vegetables (like boiled carrots or brocolli) after I rinse it through with some water to remove the oil and salt. I give her to take as finger food and to distract her while we eat.
Actually if your baby has enough teeth and also give mince meat..

Win, dont give her bath. If vaccine is today. before jab give her bath and wait for 24 to 36hrs before giving next bath. I generally dont take out the plaster immed. Wait 1 day. (So i would be reminded the location of her jab so I dont touch there) I also dont feed non-veg for 1 day. Just in case if she catches fever probability more for jaundice if given non-veg (thats what elders say.. I never investigated.. I just follow)

Chances of the area become hard so dont press there ah..

bean, good le. Actually the case study was on why american babies are obese and why they develop habits of junk food. The result is relying on cereal and ready made food jars.

Mexican babies feed on mild variety of chilly. Indians feed spice & curry. so does chinese and malaysian. (study says asians dont develop junk food habits due to healthy food habits since begining)

Anyway we have herbal foods but then some will give cold and some hot property to body should feed rarely/ low dose.

I have given chicken curry, thai basil chicken etc.,... she enjoyed. Ofcourse both low qty and home made. Her daily porridge will have pinch of turmeric(natural antiseptic) and either cumin powder (to cool body)/ spice powder. (for balance)

My home made cereal will have pinch of turmeric, cumin/ spice powder. Sometimes I add pinch of garlic paste and cook. If its rice cereal/ rice w lentils (protein) I add some finger millet powder. I cannot add cashew & almond powder as chances of allergy will be there.

I give her pomegranate juice. Dont blend but just press to extract juice. Seed can be bitter if blended. This juice is good for baby girls as this fruit good for uterus/ womens health.

When baby diahhorea if mother BF then if mother drink pomegranate juice and after 1 hr express milk and feed baby it will reduce diahhorea in baby.

tiny m n bean,

din know dat si shen is not gd to giv for chubby babies.. my baby is 10kg at 7mths.. is dat considered overweight? he was eating sishen brown rice frm 4-7mths actuali...oh no..

but his appetite has been decreasing eversince. not sure whether his weight got drop or not ( got relative comment he's lighter)..now he's eating 2 porridge meal ( 3/4bowl -1bowl ) and milk volume of min 200- max 450ml. is dat considered ok? coz abit worried on his milk intake. some days he does not even wan milk at all for whole day! i hav to spoonfeed him to ensure some min amount of milk...

coz read from some sources dat milk still considered an essential nutrient for baby.. but yet still need to giv baby solids oso... me dunno his current meals/milk intake are ok or not. shld i juz leave him if he doesnt wan milk n feed the porridge instead of forcing him to drink milk?

may mum,
many offer sweet potato, carrot, papaya as first foods. If one food intro is done slowly add leafy otherwise they wont like it and prefer sweeter type of veggies.

No need to feed rusks, finger foods etc., regularly. If you read labels carefully they say "No added Salt/ sugar" Doesnt mean it doesnt contain salt/ sugar. No sugar/ salt added is altogether diff. word.
Now manuf. becoming smarter if consumer is checking for ajinomoto they print as monosodium glucamate/ MSG. If consumers aware of it. They mention as natural identical flavours, perservative class (type) etc., Even though if label looks very clean to feed baby, we never know. I have jar foods for emergency/ go out only. Even go out I cannot pack porridge so I pack cereal. Its really IMPOSSIBLE to avoid ready made foods as even I feed her biscuit, bread but then regularly not good le. As said there are some useful sources for medical journals, research thesis etc., (authentic AAP also) read through relevant topics I understood that they will give you hint but not openly agree.

As Asians we are giving healthy food. Just dont get them mixed w western styles as they are now realising asian doing gd job.

No offence at all, just reinforcing d do & feed wat we were fed.

Si Sen is good but now and then as its heaty and some kids get constipated.

may mum, btw my gal also drink less milk. So I put pinch of Childlife Colostrum to her milk. Cannot force her to drink more but this will help her immunity & rich nutrition. Read through on this product from Childlife.net

may mum, ur welcome

all mummies,
can any one advise when is the right time to register for pre school? and any recommendations

sgpv - wow, you are oreadi thinking abt preschool? it depends on which ones you are looking at. i know popular ones have got a waiting list and you must put your name down at least 1 year ahead.

re healthy eating - i'm a strong advocate for home cooked food. so even though my #1 is oreadi coming to 3, i still cook and bring food out for her. juz feel dat outside food is too oily and salty. and i dun give tibits - sweets, chocolates, etc are no no.

RE: Preschool
Haha, feb_mum I even worse, already put myself down on waiting list for the childcare near my house. But also because that time I havent found an infantcare, so think better put on waitlist for childcare in case I really cannot find an infantcare which will auto transfer to childcare when baby turns 18mths

sgpv

noted with thx

and i did not bathe her today as her fever still unstable. still monitoring her. hopefully she will be better tmr.

Wow sgpd, very extremely informative man... Wat long long long long long posts.. Can u split it up into paragraphs...

sgpv,

thanks for sharing! some good pointers/ reminder there for me
happy.gif

as for preschool, u are referring to preschool and not CC right? i think some v v popular ones like St James, Nanyang etc has super long waiting list.. u can call the sch and enquire, i think for some sch u can register bb's name (for pre-nursery) wi them already.

feb mum,
same here. no chocolate, sweet and very limited cookies biscuits for my elder boy who is now 2 yrs 3mth old. but i notice my boy dun like sweet stuff at all, for eg cakes & ice cream, he totally turn off. and he LOVES vegetable, he normally request heaps of vege during his mealtime and took little meat.. does ur elder girl take sweet stuff also? i wish my elder boy willing to take some sweet stuff also..

feb_mum, u r good. Sometimes if i am gg out i will be lazy to cook to bring out so i give jar food. I also dun wan to give my boy tibts. I really hope cny my hubby side won't give cos his side keep saying can feed sweets already. WOrried

win - oh that time when I was asking the infantcare around my area, some of them told me cannot guarantee a vacancy for childcare, so they told me to go and find childcare first..

but luckily after I managed to enroll in this current IFC, they said that they will be able to auto transfer her to childcare.

Dodo: gd tt ur boy likes veggies. I noticed hailey has gt sweet tooth. Rejects her veg bt I still insist n add it into her food. Those times, it will tk longer to feed her. Lol!

Win: any gd childcare ard our area? Or any tt ur looking at? Jur west has gt many childcares! Bt many babies as well! Hahaha!

Gie: hw come ur hb side wld wan to gif a baby sweets?! Hw they expect baby to eat it? So weird! My fil wanted to gif hailey choco ice cream! N mil wanted to gif her lotus root soup with salt added in, lk our dinner soup.

Sgpv, I jus read thru all ur posts. Was wondering, u mentioned tt the article on why american babies are obesed, more likely is caused by a high intake in ready made jars as well as cereal. Cereal meaning home made or those pre-made tt we jus buy outside n mix with milk? Wat's the diff btw those 2? I tink u also nd to consider the family's eating habits and genes. Cannot put all the blame on jar food and cereal.
also, lk wat bean asked "Isn't the home made cereal you feeding your baby also a cereal?!?!"

Good morning mummies
Re: Salt to baby food

Actually if we home cook the soup/food, we'll separate out the portion for baby and add salt or soy sauce to the the remaining portion. If we eat out and wants baby to try /taste some of the food, we'll just go ahead and give him if the food is not too oily or spicy. Afterall, he's not taking the salt added food everyday or every meal.

jamie,
ya man.. my elder boy really loves vege. keep saying "shu cai, shu cai", somemore must be green colour one.. his teacher noticed this eating habit and shared wi me also. when i offered him sweet stuff like cake & ice cream, he took a bite and pui! including the cakes that i baked also.. wah, waste my effort!

yes! continue to offer her vege even if she dun like, then ultimately they will know that they hv no choice and gonna eat it :p .. YA starts taking more solid these 2 days and im so happy! hee.. i notice he dun like smooth puree anymore, so i offer him rice & pieces of bread and he takes it well..

same as JasC, i also take out a portion for the kids before adding flavourings.. i also let them taste some foods wi abit of salt, sugar and spiciness as long as not too much, and yup, they are not taking such food everyday every meal so i think it's ok to "spice up" their taste bud once a while.. :p

dodo - my #1 eats anything! she loves cakes. she's always very happy when there is birthday celebration in cc. she will come home and tell us dat there is birthday cake, yum yum. i always tell the cc teachers not to give her the goody bags coz she's not allowed to take all those unhealthy stuff. for biscuits, i give her those plain milk-based ones, i dun give her those with sweet filling. she's quite disciplined, if people offer her food, she will come and ask me whether it's ok to take them.

gie - y your hb side so strange, wan to intro sweets so early? i always believe that all these junk food spoils appetite so i dun allow my kids to take them. once, on a flight, i saw this gal who's same age as my gal, she was eating lollipop throughout the flight and she refused to eat her meals. i was shocked!
