I was very fortunate to have found Aunty Sally Liaw through this forum and I am now adding on my recommendation of her as a confinement nanny! I think she may still have a Nov-Dec slot in 2025 but not too sure, hence posting for 2026 mummies.

Summary: Aunty has 20+ years of experience, is a decent cook, loves babies and it shows. She was also able to handle my larger-than-average & very wriggly newborn! Bonus for me: She also speaks Cantonese and has good banter.

Pre-delivery Preparation
Even before my delivery, Aunty guided us on what baby care essentials to get—like cotton balls, gauze, mouth wipes, etc. She also gave practical advice on which confinement herbs and condiments to prepare, including where to source them. I appreciated her honesty in advising us not to over-purchase or stock up excessively, as personal preferences can vary once baby arrives. That helped us avoid unnecessary wastage. That said, my mum played a key role in preparing most of the confinement ingredients, so I didn’t need to rely heavily on Aunty for this aspect—but her guidance was still thoughtful and well-considered.

Baby Hygiene
Aunty was meticulous with baby hygiene and always advocated for gentle care. She discouraged the use of commercial wet wipes (which may cause diaper rash), and instead used cooled boiled water with cotton balls for cleaning. Diaper changes were done diligently—every time baby soiled or wet the nappy—never delayed, which I truly appreciated. These small but consistent practices gave me peace of mind that my baby was in caring and hygienic hands.

Soothing a Fussy Baby
We had a particularly fussy baby—there was a stretch of nearly a week where she was inconsolable through the nights. Aunty’s presence during this time was a real blessing, especially at night. She never made me feel guilty for needing rest, and instead, insisted I prioritise rest while she calmly soothed the baby with her time-tested techniques. She shared helpful tips and assured me that such fussiness is normal and manageable, which helped ease my anxieties.

Baby Care Guidance
Beyond caregiving, Aunty patiently passed on her knowledge to us. From how to swiftly change diapers, to dressing a wriggly newborn, feeding positions, milk expression, and storage methods—she made sure I felt confident and well-informed.

Organising the Household for Baby
One of the most helpful things Aunty did was help us set up our home in a way that made caring for baby intuitive and efficient. From organising the kitchen for milk prep, to arranging the baby’s room and essentials, everything was made accessible and easy to maintain. She also helped us establish simple routines that we could continue with after she left, making the transition smoother and less overwhelming. (This was one of the reasons I opted for a confinement nanny instead of other's advise of going to JB for some luxury confinement package)

Confinement Meals
When it came to meals, Aunty was considerate and attentive. She took time to understand my likes and dislikes (and my husband's), and adjusted the meals accordingly while making sure they supported my recovery and breastfeeding goals. She would also explain the benefits of certain dishes and herbs (e.g., which ones help boost milk supply), which gave me confidence in what I was eating. My only critique is that I preferred meals with stronger flavours but i understand the benefits of having cleaner meals during confinement. Another caveat is that I wasn't particular about food budget so it gave Aunty a lot of freedom to try out different dishes for me.
