Hi all, 1st time im getting a maid, and not sure what should I look for and how to 'take care' of maids, so need more advices from you all who are having maids...thanks

my first maid totally had no experience and i vomited blood trying to teach her everything from scratch. She also spolied my electircal appliance on her 4th day of work. Worst still, her english is not good and she cannot understand 50% of what i am saying.

After 1 mth i gave up and change to a experienced maid so no need to train from scratch.

I feel if you have babies and young children, it is better to get someone more mature with experience and/or have their own children. I feel that the really young maids may have difficulty coping with cranky babies and housework at same time. They may take out on the babies. Some have unrealistic expectations that they are in SG for holiday etc. and may not take working seriously. So be careful to choose those that are here to work and not to socialise.

As for taking care of them, i normally treat my maid as part of family. She eats whatever we eat even if we go out. We give her comfortable clothing to wear suitable for SG humid climate. However we restrict her hp usage to 1 hour a day between a specified timing so that they will not be distracted by smses thru'out day. She has her own bed in her own room as the baby sleeps with us. So she has enough rest for housework the next day. It is impt not to let them use hp too late at night or very early in morning as they may not have enough rest and can be easily agitated during day especially if handling kids and housework at same time...

I feel that we have to consistently engage them and find out how they are coping so that any problems can be resolved asap. I believe a heart to heart talk once a week and work review once a week is good and healthy for both parties. So that feedback can be given in a proper channel. Ignoring problems will only cause it to balloon and tempers to fly at a later stage which is very unhealthy for employer and employee relationship. We must always be mindful that they are in living in our household and can do 'funny'things behind our backs if they want to take revenge etc. as such i strongly feel that all mums shld refrain from shouting at ur maids...

Sorry gotta go...

Hi all..
My maid arriving soon this week, she has experience in working in SG from 2005 - 2009. This is the first time im getting a maid too. My main concern is that she could really treat my 7mth old baby well like treating like her own child but i guess its not possible.

May i know if the maid is home sick when she just started working in the family, the employers will have to bear all cost for her handphone usage??

I wouldn't let the maid to be alone with my baby for sure, because i just don't trust them at all. I'm lucky enough to have a MIL at home to guide her along but the main problem is my MIL dont know how to converse in english or malay, dont know how to work this out. ( sigh )

Hi Liling, u r not responsible for her calls home. Wat u can suggest to her is to get a phone card & let her use ur house phone, only $10. If she has been in S'pore b4 she may expect to be allowed a hf & have other preferences, so u should have your 'rules' ready. Good to have MIL around. Why don't you try creating a 'roster' so basic work like what days to wash bathroom, vacuum etc. all spelt out for her. I find it avoids confusion and helps with accountability. Then your MIL just nds to supervise her with your baby, less talking hopefully!

His major concern is the cost.. sigh.. really tired of explaing to him

hi,

need some advice.

my agent said that maids from Malang, East Java is good and not fierce cos this is my 1st maid. but on the other hand, i oso heard that maids from Malang are gd at black magic & stubborn. I just confirmed that maid from Malang before i know abt this.

hi mummies,
my maid contract ending soon. How much do I nd to pay if apply for another maid? Do I nd to pay agent fees if gg to the same agent??

Hi baobeixuan,
It depends very much on what kind of maid you are going to hire.
For example:
If you get fresh maid (who is still in their home country), you have to pay agency fee, new insurance and certainly to fork out advance loan for the maid. If she doesn't work out, then you will have to send her back to agency to get a replacement. It also depends on your agreement with the agency for maid replacement, etc.

If you are getting a transfer maid from Agency (maid in SIN), you need to still pay for Agency fee and if the maid doesn't work out, then you got to send back for replacement, some agency will charge for paper work involved and replacement of maid is written in the agreement with the agency.

Conclusion: You need to pay Agency fee.

By the way, I have one Philipina maid for transfer for direct hire. No agency fee but you need to pay $10 for online transaction if she fits your family.

I am looking for maid too. Taking care of my baby, doing housework and cooking at times. Any good maid to transfer to me? Thanks! Please pm me.

Hi,

I am also looking for a transfer as my current one just dropped a bomb and said her mum wants her to return home for coming Hari Raya.

Pls pm me if you have a reliable and good Indonesian maid for transfer.

Thanks so much!

Maids that work 2 years or more are a bunch of smart maids. They tend to ask for a whole lot more.

My advise is to get new ones (50 / 50 luck though).

My maid has work for me for 3 years already, suddenly she has a new HP which I don't even know. She started learning indian I Love You Darling etc which I found the slip near her bed.

Then when she do housework she kept laughing away only to realise she has a ear piece with her chatting away with friends.

She gave me black face as if I am her maid (my husband also complaint on her black face, my husband don't bother with my maid but when he says something its really bad that he comment) and when I talk to my maid she don't answer and when I ask why she don't answer she says she answer but I didn't hear her. I caught her not answering me by looking at her mouth if it moves, she just keep quiet when I told her she didn't answer cause her mouth didn't move!!!

Good now she is leaving on 22 August ~ I will be free from her!!!! I wanted her to leave earlier but I book ticket earlier for a later date at a cheaper rate 'sign'!!

Forgot to mention, do watch your maid well, I caught 1 kissing with a indian guy at my void deck. My husband saw them too. The maid was holding her little missy.
