Having a baby really isn't cheap and the baby bonus will help, but it's only a small amount.
BTW, just to share the 'strategy' my cousin taught me with regards to Baby Bonus.
For #1 and #2, wil have $4k CASH and $6k top up.
So, open the CDA account for the top up (must have this acct if not no top up for you).
Use the CASH from the $4k (will be disbursed to us $1k at a time) to bank into CDA account and you will get your $4k matching bonus.
Then before your child turns 6yo, top in another $2k on your own to receive the last $2k top up.
For those having #3, a bit more 'shiong' cos the top up is $12k and cash is $6k if I recall correctly. You need to top in 6k on your own to get the full 12k matching bonus.
This CDA money can be used for doctor's visits, vaccinations (which can cost around $500 - 1000++) and SCHOOL FEES for preschool/infantcare/childcare (must be approved kindy/centre).
My calculation based on the kindy my boy attends (provided no increase in fees):
Total in CDA after matching bonus = $12k
My boy's current kindy's fees per year = $4700
The money can last for 2.5 years of school fees. Still not too bad
Hubs say must faster have #3 and get the 12k matching bonus more worth it. HAHAHA
