(2010/07) July 2010 MTB

Carol: I also don’t latch and only pump and my menses hasn’t return. I think so long as your body is still producing milk, the hormones to stop menses will continue to exist in our body. Since you are stopping BF now, I think you menses will return shortly as mentioned by Ann. Yah I also don’t wish to take medication to stop my supply. Thanks for sharing =)

Eliss & SK: Thanks for sharing on how to stop BF!

Kemeast: You can eat while bb is in bb bjorn. I’ve seen other mommies done it and I’ve done it myself too. Even my hubby has done it too. Just need to be careful and bring the food above your bb’s head and into your mouth. I think it is easier when bb is front facing, then the bb’s butt can rest on ur lap and you thigh will be between bb’s 2 leg. Like that is similar to bb sitting on ur lap. If you wanna eat “wet food” while bb is in carrier, you can try cold soba. I tried that before. Put the soba in the small bowl with the sauce and bring the bowl close to your mouth and eat. But of course, if you really want to fully enjoy your meal, then you’ll have to bring stroller =) I’ve tried bringing bb out a few times to meet other mommies for lunch & bb yoga. It’s fun and I felt very accomplished after that haha. You should give it a try too. Just make sure you are mentally prepared and brought everything that you need along with you.

Eliss: Can go to the loo with bb in carrier. Me & other mommies have done it before. Just pull down ur pants/skirt, lift bb up a bit while you sit down then can let bb sit on ur lap if u want. I practiced it once at home before doing it outside. You might want to give it a try at home first.

Charliebrown: BP is selling sophie at $32. My friend has 1 brand new Sophie from US and I think can get her to sell to you at a price lower than BP. If you are interested can PM me. I remember that you stay somewhere in the west hence should be easier to pass to you if you are interested.

Morning mummies.

I felt like going JB tomorrow lei but BB no passport. Felt so bad if I leave him at my in law house and I go JB with hubby. Haha!!

hi mummies,

have some excess fbm as I am clearing space in my freezer. about 10-15 bags abt 180ml each. frozen since end Aug. PM me if you are keen. collection pt at AMK ave 6. hope to clear off by this weekend.

Thank you.

Morning mummies,

Guess what happened to me yesterday. I was expressing milk at Suntec's nursing room when I saw two cockroaches scurrying around! Can u imagine how disgusted I was!! I had to kill one frantically as I was already in the midst of expressing my milk!! And throughout the session, I kept looking around; so scared to find some more roaches somewhere!! My hair was also standing all the time! I amgoing to write to their management. I cannot imagine if I had been breastfeeding my baby there instead. Urgh!

Carol: I'm one of the rare cases of menses already set in while still expressing. in fact, there's something wrong with my cycle that i have already had 4 menses cycles already. I'm supposed to set an appt with my gynae to check on this. Sigh.

Ann: Go and make baby's passport asap! Very easy! Just do online and then can collect a few days later already. Then can bring bab everywhere already!

Have a good long weekend everyone!

ann: i am collecting my bb's PP this sat ! hee !

Fazzy: I did saw this scene at vivo too ! -.-ll

I was there to change my bb's diapers only.

wow 4 cycles ready ah ! I just had my 1st cycle last 9 of last mth ... this mth think hay wired again.

i had 3 cycles of menses oredi. the 1st one came 7 wks after i delivered, the 2nd was as normal, came 4 wks after the 1st one but the 3rd was weird as it came 2 wks after the 2nd cycle ended. i was still expressing when my menses came

1st 2 were light, the 3rd was heavy but no cramps. think it's getting back to normal oredi?

Wa lao.. you all make bb passport liao ah? Okok.. i go and take his photo first.. he not coorperative one.. always wanna flip when I place him looking up at me to take photo.. hai!!

Mummies,

Is it cheap to buy baby products in JB? I remember last time a few mums go JB to buy things cause cheaper.

Ann,

what do you plan to buy? Avent, Pigeon are cheaper here. Diapers are cheaper in Msia. not sure about other brands though

Actually wanna go there and eat.. Haha!! But also thinking of buying diapers, wipes, clothes, etc if cheaper than Singapore.

Ann

You can go to Jusco for bb clothes and wipes, alot of varieties and clothes are super cheap.

But avert, nuk products more ex compared to Singapore ..

Menses: Read from internet ut differ from each mummy..i think i need to observe..

fazzy: no worry, i think ur prob might due to hormone change gua..

shopping in jb: last week carefour selling Mammy Poko S(72 pcs)/M/L/XL at RM42.99, Giant selling Huggies Ultra at RM30.99, not sure giant promo tilo when..

I think overall Tesco is cheaper than Jusco..

Btw, any mummy going to Robinson expo sales? Any good deal over there?

charliebrown: you're not the only one, seeing mummies rave about sophie makes me want to get one for my girl.

mummies who have purchased sophie, where did you get yours?

beannie: these days i've been shopping only for my girl - can't remember the last time i got something for myself. but can't help it firstborn, so very excited

Regarding baby passport.. I have also just collected my boy passport last week.. I did online thru APPLES and made an e appointment and I must say the Q was right on time.. Very efficient.. But I just realised that if baby face change, we will have to redo the passport.. Pay the $70 again.. Omg.. Initially I thought can just replace photo.. Seems like my $70 will be gone, just like that as my holiday plans has just be shelve off as I'm now training my boy under EASY and do not wish to disrupt his routine.. And, in another 2 weeks, I'm back at work.. So sad

keer13: Ya.. govt really know how to eat our money lo. That's why I don't dare to make passport for my boy. BB change very fast one.. Hai.

Hi mummies,

Think to buy a bb carrier to my gal.

But is it necessary since i alr have bb sling & stroller for outing with bb?

For those mummies who alr bought it, do you feel useful?

Heard from friend that it only useful when you bring bb out by taking public transport..

Thermos update - I think we almost have enough orders to proceed with the "spree"... Awaiting just a few more mummies to confirm..

Baby coco & Ann - I had PM you.. Please let me know the designs you are interested via email : [email protected].

For others keen, can also email me.. Cheers!

Hi Carol - I find my baby bjorn useful as bb is very snug in it.. He loves it from the 1st time I put him inside.. He's so comfy in it that he zzzz most of the time inside.. As I don't know how to use sling.. So bb carrier is my only choice.. Yes, when taking bus or train.. I feel very secure when bb is in the carrier.. For me, I can't do w/o the bjorn..

keer:if bb sleep in bb carrier, then their neck ll be very uncomfortable compare with bb sling rite?

Sigh, nowadays my gal dun wanna stroller n sling..a bit worry after i spend so much to buy bb carrier then she refuse to go in..

carol: i was told by one of the parents at my girl's infantcare not to buy carrier since my girl is so used to the sling- her elder child used to be a sling baby and she bought a carrier but the child refused to stay in.

keer,

my bb doesn't hug anything to sleep coz i din introduce any to her. and she's been off swaddling a long time oredi. so...maybe your bb will be ok without hugging anything to sleep?

carol,

if possible, try it out on your baby before buying. my baby is ok with both sling and carrier coz she just likes to be carried. each baby is different. my baby associates the sling & carrier with going out. have since ditched the sling

my gal can only stay in sling while sleeping..

basically i only used the sling for twice..

then stroller even worse..she ll start cranky in less than 10 mins & wanna ppl to carry her..

Carol: I got a Combi 2-way carrier as I dunno how to use the sling (I lost the CD! Cant find the video online too).

That time my gal was too small so I dun dare to put her in upright position… the carrier can be used in recline position so bb can lie in it.

Now she is bigger so sometimes she likes to be carried upright..

I usually bring stroller & carrier out coz bb can get restless in stroller and I want to be hands free if I need to carry her.

It can also be folded into the attached pouch so v convenient to bring around.

Carol: I have a carrier and stroller but haven't used much of the carrier as we have been either driving or walking around my estate so using the stroller more. I personally think you don't need a carrier since u already have a sling and stroller. Save the money for other stuff.[IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Carol, my bb also used to cry when we put her on the stroller. I make it a point to take her out everyday. And now she's ok being on the stroller. Can even sleep 1-2hrs. But of course there are days when she gets tired of lying down on the stroller and we have to carry her.

Sophie the Giraffe:

My friend has a brand new Sophie from US to let go at S$29. Anyone interested can PM me.

Carol: Are you able to handle your bb well using the sling? If yes then there's no need to get a carrier. I've seen many mommies using the sling to bring the bb out in public transport. They are also able to BF bb in the sling as well. But for myself, I just can't figure out how to use the sling properly so had to use a bb carrier haha. If you really want to get a carrier, better to let your bb try it out first before buying as some bb don't like certain carrier. I using bb bjorn synergy and love it! When I go out alone, I usually use that. If bb wants to sleep, I will put him facing me so that his head will be more comfy and supported.

Ann:

I'm teaching my baby how to sign already. I'm teaching her ASL aka American Sign Language. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] So far i only teach her signs for Milk and bathe. :p But she doesn't know how to sign back yet. Keke

Passport:

I also made my bb's passport! the picture damn cute la! :p Hopefully her face doesn't change too much too fast, if not another $70 gone. :p

Hi gals,

Me going Taiwan & HK free & easy for 4d 3n & 3d 2n. Total 6d. Price $1.2k like that. Hehe.

But disappointed with that focal travel agency.. Lazy to talk abt them.

My boy stick to my mom cause she take care. When see me he only smile when I play with him. See my Hubby straight away smile & giggle. Dunno why such a big diff.

I haven't buy those toy for him chew.. But notice alot of u all bb start to chew..

hi ladies! I am new here! One very nice mommy that I met on the plane last night told me about this forum! I just got in to Singapore and have a couple of questions that I am hoping to get some answers from! Thanks in advance!

1. I hear it's common to breastfeed in public in SG. I don't really breastfeed in public in the US, but had to do it yesterday on the plane. Do people only BF in nursing room? what if you are on MRT, or hawker center, shopping malls?

2. I am having some cough and itchy throat...any over the counter medications I can take that won't affect BF? I took some robitussin cough in the US (after asking the pediatrician) but I didn't bring it here. I also noticed my milk supply decreased when I was taking it...(or perhaps it's the cough drops).

3. This is totally random...but I am bummed that I busted my breastpump! I think the voltage is different from US and Asia, so I plugged mine in and smoke started coming out..yikes! Where do you get your breastpump supplies in singapore? My brand is medela. Thanks!!

Hi Allie,

Welcome!!!

1) Yes it is pretty common to BF in public, just use a nursing cover will do. In most shopping malls, there are nursing room, so if you don't feel comfortable BF in public, you can do it in the nursing room. But the nursing rooms are usually quite crowded during weekends and public holidays. I've seen mommies BF in shopping malls, fast-food outlet, restaurants etc. For MRT, I heard that you are not allowed to BF as it is considered "eating & drinking" hahaha.

2) Haven't fell sick since I gave birth so unable to comment on this. But you are able to find Robitussin in SGP too.

3) You can get medela in most department stores or bb shops (e.g. Mothercare, Kiddy Palace) but it would be quite expensive. So usually people get from online shop

Hi Allie welcome!

1) Yep it is ok to breastfeed in public here. Just have a nursing cover [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

2) You can check with the pharmacist on breastfeeding friendly medications.

3) I normally buy my medela stuff from http://littlethinkies.wordpress.com/

Thanks ladies! Irene, I love your "no eating and drinking" comment!! So where do you all bf in public? like if you are at malls/restaurants/food court, do you just whip out your cover and feed? I honestly haven't noticed any bf mommies when I was in Singapore...but again, until you have experienced it, you don't really take note!

This is so fun! I am so excited I found this forum! was reading back some of the posts...wow, some of y'all babies are sleeping so well! I am screwed! My bb is jetlagged haha so now he is zzz i wonder what time he will wake up!

Also, is online shopping common in Singapore? Thanks!!!

By the way, thanks for the link! I found the breastpump transformer for voltage...I am considering buying it, hopefully only my adapter is toast, and not the actual pump...otherwise I am screwed because I can't afford another one!!!

Allie,

from what i know there's alot of cough mixture in the market off the shelf that's not suitable. Best is you go see doc n tells them that you are still BF. During BF if mummy cough it's very hard to recover 1 coz the med we can take is oni v mild....

Allie,

Yup, online shopping is very common in Singapore, especially for us when we are heavily pregnant and didnt want to go out shopping. I bought most of my bb's clothes, toys thru online stores and thru sprees in this forum. So far i got all my goods in good condition and wasnt cheated in anyway. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Allie,

Nowadays I do most of my shopping online. It's very convenient and also cheaper. Do check out the various threads under the "Bulk Purchase" in this forum. Here are some of my personal favourite online shop:
