(2010/07) July 2010 MTB

Sterilization: I sterilize bottles + pump stuff after every use... i will air dry it first before capping it shut.. can buy those drying station.. I bought 1 for $29. It lets you put all the bottles nicely.. i dont think it is a good idea to cap the bottles while its still wet leh... promotes bacteria won't it? I'm not sure though!

[IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/messages/2495852/4425188.jpg]

Mittens: I've taken out my son's mittens already when he is at home. HOwever, now he has this tendency to wanna put his fingers into his mouth!

vaccinations: Oh dear, so far i've already brought my son to do his hep b jab. Does it mean I can't do 6in1? Havent decided to bring him to PD, GP or Poly! I intend to change my PD as Dr Ong Eng Keow's clinic @ Mt A is sooooooo crowded that I can't even push my pram in. Newborn can cut queue, but after 2 mths.. must wait already.

Jaclyn,

If air dry already, bottles still considered sterilized mah? I assembled them immediately once i take them out from the sterilizer, ready for the next use. Thought that was what Mrs Wong mentioned in class but dun remember her saying anything abt the water vapour though.

jaclyn: where you bought that?

sterilization: Ya i was taught by mrs wong to cap it immediately, but i did not know there will be water vapour.

Jasmine,

Thanks for organizing the Sean Lau thingy. Just wanna check with you - that CD with selected images, how many images do we get? Are they the same images as for the 5 pics of 5R + 1 pc of 8R? Sorry for asking now. Should hv done this earlier

Suggestion: why not post in the June or Aug mtb threads? I'm sure there'll be mothers interested?

I'm also using the Avent Steam electric sterilizer.

I sterilise my pump & milk bottles, etc after every use.

After the stuff have been sterilized, i will take them out and "air-dry" in the drying rack cuz have water vapour inside.

HB actually said, better to leave the items inside the steriliser until ready to use as the items can "stay sterilised" until 6hrs if keep inside...but then how to keep inside when I need to sterilise my pump after every use and not enough bottles to last till 6hrs later le.

Anyyway, I bought the Munchkin Drying rack to dry the items.

Err abt sterilising.. I have done it for both kids... This is wat Ido... Just sterilise, then take out put on drying rack to dry. Sometimes need to use bottles and there's still water droplets, I just rinse with hot water. Those dried ones I just put into a big plastic tupperware.

So far ok.

Pacifier: My bb is going 4 wks, i've just introduced pacifier, in that case how do i know if my bb is hungry since he seem to sleep longer with pacifier, if without he will usually wake up 3 hrly, with pacifier, about 4 hours.

anyone still has sleeping probs with their bb? Mine is coming 2 mths but for the past few days, she will only slp ard 2am! During the day she only sleeps for 2-3 hrs only. How come she not tired one? I'm really exhausted cos have no time to do my stuff when she is not sleeping. Then at nite still have to make sure she slps before i can K.O. How to solve this prob??

Kepsis: i bought mine at mums n babes store.. its from prince lionheart brand.

Sweetkiss: Mine recently super hard to put him to sleep at night..

Kepsis- during my #1 time, I boiled a pot of water separately n trf all the sterilize items In it as once the lid of the sterilizer is open, the contents inside will not be sterile anymore.

For #2, I will cap it immediately just Like wat u r doing now. As to whether to trf to a drying rack , it's really up to ur comfort level as to me unless u do it In sterile environment during e trf. Once my mum took over e care of my BB, all items will be in e sterilizer untouch once lid is open. It all depends on ur comfort level

sweetkiss,

my little one has feeding frenzy fr 10-1am! usually a gd night is slpin @ 12. we are still trying to shift her timing to a 10pm KO .. lol

mommies

how do u find

Kenny Ee (PARAGON)

Ong Eng Keow (MT A)

Terrence Tan (MT A)

looking for a gd PD with short wait time ..

does anyone know?

Sterilizing bottles

I checked with mrs Wong before and she advised us not to air dry it. This will only introduce more bacteria into the bottles. Best is to leave them in sterilizer. But if u really need to take them out, close the bottles and put in a Tupperware.

Hope this helps.

I remember one mommy here mentioned about sacred tea. Sorry forgot who u are. May I know if it is still effective after continuously drinking?

I have tried and the packet only lasted for a week plus. So wanna find out if I should continue taking it. So far I can see some result. Any advice?

Sterilization,

Once bottles, etc are out of the sterilizer, they're not sterile anymore. Also, once sterilizer is opened, the contents in it are not sterile anymore. So if you really want steriled bottles, you've to keep sterilizing them. E.g. sterile cotton balls - once packaging is opened, the entire content is not sterile anymore

Vivi - I'm doing the same as what you did for your #1. I'll boil the items for 10 mins, switch off the gas, then just leave them in the pot submerged in the boiled water

Mommies, ya it really depends on your comfort level. For Medela pump, the manual just says to wash in warm soapy water, then airdry. No mention about sterilizing

To add on, just leave those sterilized bottles in the sterilizer. When you have another batch of stuff to sterilize, sterilize together. It is fine to re-sterilize and is definitely better than removing them from the sterilizer.

Expressing BM

This doubt just strike me... When we are back to work, i believe we have to bring all the pump accessories to office everyday. If we were to pump 3 times a day in office, does it mean we have to bring 3 sets of the accessories to and fro since we can't be doing the sterilising work in office?

tek koh,

My bb's PD is Dr KT Low at Paragon. Waiting time about 15 mins if u go without appt and u go in before 10.30am coz after that all the parents will start coming in. I noticed that each time I'm there. Of course no waiting time if u've an appt

He's not bad - will answer all your questions, if you ask. Haha! But I find that he doesn't really look you in the eyes. Patient lor. When he hears my mom asking me in cantonese to ask him some baby stuff, he'll switch to Cantonese also do that my mom can understand

Eliss,

My baby's using Pampers and I really like it- thin & soft. Will definitely check out that link.

These days, I will also scan the ads by the supermarkets to see what deals they hv on formula and diapers. What a change since becoming a mother. Last time, I'll just skip and flip the pages. Haha!

Pink,

I thot of that too. So I googled and read from a blog - this mommy will just dump the pump into a container and put it in the fridge. She didn't sterilize it at each use. Only sterilise when she got home. Something to do with the temperature (cold)

Anyway, medela has these sterilization wipes as well as microwaveable bags for pump parts + bottles, if you're interested. But you can't sterilise medela softfit shields using those bags

Regarding vaccination for babies...

Any mommies here taking the jabs at "The Kid's Clinic" at Sengkang? Do you know how much they charge for those vacinnation to be taken within the first 6mths, i.e. 6-in-1, rotavirus and pneumococcal?

I am still thinking whether to take the jabs in polyclinic, GP or PD...

pink: wad i do is after each pump i'll wash clean n use hot water to rinse thru n keep in a ziplock bag n when i nid to use i use hot water to rinse thru again then pump....so far my boy ok so i'll b doing the same for my girl when i'm back in ofc....i even pump in the toilet lor (but my toilet is internal 1...oni used by my colleagues so i'll wait for auntie to clean 'hao liao' then i go in pump.....everyday pump 2 times in ofc for almost half yr last time

Jaclyn: pm u liao

Pink- same as suika. I will wash n place in the lock n lock container n rinsed with hot water before using it. I hv seen my Indonesia colleagues n customer put e whole pump in e fridge.

vivi: at home after pump i'll juz put in ziplock bag n put in the fridge....after 2 pumps like that then i wash....

pink: if u scare then u can get those sterilizing tablets to use

Suika- oic. I stetilize after every pump. Sometimes very tired n lazy to wash n sterilize n will omit it n just latch. Cos most of the time I pump n latch at e same time.

Dr Terrence tan- a nice dr. But queue super long. He is a dr that is v strict with giving antibiotics which I like. He has a clinic at holland too. My pd is e same as ica. My hb compAre dr low n dr tan n he still prefer dr low.

tek_koh, the PDs which you have listed are all popular hence waiting time is long......

Of the 3, i would go for Kenny Ee. he is patient, detailed and very experienced. his night clinic at parkway parade queue is relatively ok but only there wed nite (and another nite, can't remember). he's mainly based in Kinder Paragon. By the way charges are also very high...

mummies, one thing abt doctors when you compare is the medicine given.

you will notice PDs tend to give original packaging medication while some (and GPs) will tend to give us those generic bottles . the generic ones are pumped from large bottles bought in bulk. i prefer to go to doctors that use original packaging medication, and they don't mix medication in those generic bottles.

just my 2 cents worth [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Pink, the charges for 6 in 1 package is $440, prevnar $169 per jab, rotavirus $99 1 dose at the kid's clinic... Just brought my daughter there for the vaccinnations... My no 1 also went there for his vaccinations and the drs there are very thorough in the check ups and will check the kid's milestones... So although they charge more than the polyclinics, it's actually more worth it... Besides, they dun charge for consultations when you sign up for the packages

6-in-1 is close to $500

rotavirus is about $90 per vaccine

pneumococcal abt $170ish? this one havent taken yet so i cant remember price quoted.

mummies, got any cooler bags to recommend? planning to get one soon cos my girl will be going to infantcare when i go back to work in like a few weeks time. so not looking forward to it *wails*

Jasline: I have the telon oil. New bottle in packaging. Mdm Ida give it to me but I am not using it. Do you wan it? I also have another bottle which is open le.. Mdm Ida give me. I can give the 2 bottles to u if you wan. Leave here, BB also no use.

Tek koh: My son's PD is Terence Tan. Since birth, my son sees him. He is very good.. shows concern for BB too. For example when I am in the hospital, the 2nd day he couldn't come see me personally but he will call me to update on my BB's condition. Never expect PD to do that.

Has any mummy still breastfeeding gotten her menses already? My bb is on TBF, I either latch or pump regularly but I think my menses is coming back! Ugh I thought menses won't come if we bf regularly..wanted to have another few pad-free months [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

peanut >> me!! [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] supply dropped a little when menses came.. how i know when i dun pump? cause bb fuss about the slow flow and i had to latch on 2 side each feed. after menses finish.. supply went back to normal and i went back to latching on 1 side

Brought my gal for her first 6 in 1 vaccine at the GP at her second month... no fever yet but can sense her discomfort in the wee hours when she crys for feed....

The 6 in 1 vaccine package was $340

Synflorix/Prevenar $540 for 4 jabs

Rota - $200 for 2 jabs....

Pumping at Work

I'm going back to work on Monday... time flies...

There's no pumping room in my office, it's either I pump in toilet or I would have to walk to nearby Shopping mall to use their nursery rooms...

Intend to pump 3x during work. Once b4 work starts, second during lunch time and lastly at 3-4pm... Have brought the medela wipes, so I would just rinse in tap water and then use the wipes b4 pumping.

Currently 3 hours pumping can only yield around 130-150ml, each medela bottle can hold 150ml, should be able to hold my 3 pumping volume....

Peanut and serene,

I also have had my menses. Milk ss dropped. Sigh. So sad. But I continue to pump. Milk ss hopefully will escalate up again. But I'm also puzzled why it came.

mine oso eh.so surprise 2 c blöod n tummy gt e cramp 2.so long nv cum le.怪怪的.my supply already nt much le stil like tat

eliss my girl jus had her jab ytd.. and had fever last night and today.. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif] so heart pain... she very gao wei, wan to be hugged and carried...

Sacred Tea

I had the sacred tea for two weeks, slight increase in supply but BB and I fart alot, and BB always cry when try to fart, maybe too uncomfortable so I stop taking the tea for the time being.... maybe when my supply dropped then I will brew and drink

Mommies I am having flu and took decolgen. Completely forgot that I'm breastfeeding. Is it safe or shud I throw away my milk? How long then considered safe again?
