(2010/07) July 2010 MTB

hi mommies, i saw alot of u all using gripe water to feed...wonder what that for?

Sigh..heard from my wifey and mum that bb is having a cranky day today...want to be carry...but i keep reminding them not to. Hope tomorrow he will be better...back to his usual self..

As for milk intake wise...it varies..sometime 60-sometime 90ml..wonder if norm?

Sweetkiss - same as me..my bb oso very cranky last nite frm nite till 5+. juz wan to be carry and once she is asleep in ur hands u put her down to her cot she start all over again.. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

sean == gripe water is for reducing colic, wind.. u can see the advertisement at the banner on top of the page.. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] it helps my bb to get rid of wind too

Taka Baby Fair - 4 Aug to 22 Aug 2010

Taka Baby Fair is here. It's time for me to stock up on baby stuff again, esp baby wipes.

Julie, don't worry. Whether natural or csection, as long as baby comes out safely, that's most important. To reassure you, I was induced without any contraction or dilation cos I had a show and waterbag burst. In fact my induction started at 2.30pm and only delivered the next day at 11.30am. As long as the fetal heart rate is good, your gynae should be able to let you dilate to 10cm naturally.

vernie == sadzzz it will be 7th mth period.. cannot bring bb out... if not sure tio nag one.. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

Phy, we must have met in the clinic! I delivered in the morning, so the lady you saw is not me

Shann, congrats on your bundle of joy! you are doing a great job

keropi, you asked the question that i have too! after 3 weeks, my nipples are still sore! there is also a tear at the ajoining part between the nipple and aerola...sometimes the bleeding portion even stain the milk!

My heart aches when i have to pour 1 side away... any mummies with other tips? [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/messages/2495852/4289784.gif]

until the torn portion heals, I don't dare to let my boy latch on....not to mention the pain I have to bear for the 1st 5 min of each pump.

Hi Miow,

Same here.... but as for me... I feel pain only for the 1st few pump.. after that ok liao... however my right side still having blister on the nipple but my condition have improve slightly after I chg the breast shield... maybe u can check your... got to make sure the nipple isn't rubbing again the shield... the blister seem better..

Just to check with mummies here to see if there's other having the same problem... with any other solution to further improve the condition? or is this normal among all mummies...

i also same case.. Pain when latching on but only first few suckles.. Only for 1 breast, the other no prob but supply is very little at that breast. My nipple used to be injured and cracked too. Now it is recovering but u can see a "hole" like part of it was bitten off! Disgusting rite? I was told is due to poor latching so I'm going to see LC at TMC tmr. Hopefully can get the correct latching and also some tips to increase supply..

I realised that when expressing, we can just massage the breast to "force" more milk to flow out.. What I did is just push my breast towards the aerola when expressing n my production will usually increased by 10-20ml..

May I ask how long do you all express per session & how many hrs interval.. Im expressing for 30mins on a dual electric pump at 2.5-3.5 hrs interval.. Wonder if it's ok? I can pump 120ml per session.. Is that norm as well? How much ml are u, mummies pumping right now? [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

My bb is now 11 days old.. He has jaundice.. He was fed 90ml at the hospital but when he took him home yest, he only consumed 60-70ml.. But, that's normal as under the phototherapy treatment, babies tend to get thirsty easily so they will drink more..

For mummies with sore nipples, don't worry.. You are not alone.. I think it's common but once your nipples got toughen up in due time, it should be ok.. For me, what I did is, after expressing per session, moisturise your breast by using the surplus breast milk left on the breast.. It helps.. Best, if you can press on the aerola and secrete the glands, that will be even more moisturising.. Otherwise, at times, I also use a Lanolin nipple cream which I bought from Mum's fairies.. It works..

My bb bite on my nipple last 2 days and it was sore so I did not latch on bb at all for the whole of yest.. He also prefer only 1 breast to the other.. Guess, it's my latching problem.. So, in the mean time, I try to heal my nipple by pumping using a much lower cycle and suction.. I think that helps too..

Anyone using Medela Freestyle here? Is it good? I'm intending to invest in 1 as I feel that it's more mobile to have that.. With my current pump, I feel so "desk-bounded".. :p

I'm using the Ameda breastpump at the moment.. Any mummies using that too.. Just to share... Initially, I pump as normal but I keep having backaches as the pump require you to slight bend forward so that the milk will flow down.. Moreover, I'm having very bad epi side effects initially which makes it very painful for me to sit for 30mins at the pumping station.. Thus, I invested 2 items from mum's fairies.. It's called the pumpin pal aid, which allows you to be handsfree so that you can work on other things like reading and going internet when pumping. And, I also bought a super shield connecter.. The super shield allows me to hunch and relax and lay back while pumping so I now no longer have to bend forward.. I think these 2 items are really God send so I just want to recommend this for all mummies who will like to have a more delightful time pumping.. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

For mummies, who do not have milk flow, don't despair.. Initailly, I was also having that, my milk did not come in at all at Day 4.. End up, it's because, I have lotsa blocked milk ducts.. I was so sad.. So, I quickly found a massage lady to "tong" for me as I was already having engorment.. She pressed very hard on my blocked ducts, to clear for me.. It was extremely painful and it was all worth it.. Then, my milk came in that night..

today is my week40+1 day..still no news yet... waiting ..^_^..later go see gynae to check liao.. looks like i'm the last to pop..hehe

Keer13: you wanna consider using Avent DUO ISIS IQ electric breast pump? i used this for last 2 preganacy and it's comfy to use. ^_^

morning mummies,

if all is well, me & BB shld be discharged from TMC tdy.

woke up this morning feeling all emo.

cried & cried.

felt bad for not producing even colostrum for my BB after 2 days. Then seeing my BB having red rashes on his face (nurses said cld be due to environmental rashes), so heartpain.

HB was supportive & just ask me to try BF, of not, then bottle feed with FM, it's ok.

Funny thing is during pregnancy, I told myself & HB, I'm not going to be affected by other pple's comments my BF, I'll do my best, if cannot I'll supplment with FM.

But now after giving birth, dunno is it hormones go haywire...I feel so emo abt it, tho i'm glad I hv a supportive HB thus far.

Sorry for the long post.

Cool: For me Gynae mention BB very squezzy liao... faster let him out if not i cannot go natural birth must c-sect lor. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

Ceres: All the best! My bag is full and stuffed with 3 days clothings and my toiletries, charger etc. I brought more breast pads cos i think must change after feeding?

Do remember to bring the important doc like marriage cert and admission doc.

Ling: Yeah brought those but bag super big leh! Feel like I got bring unwanted stuff... As if i am going to move into hospital.

Ceres: yeah, i brought a lot of stuff that hubby commented that i'm like going to stay in a chalet.

Mrs Long: It's good that you have a supportive HB. Do take care.

Ling: Haha.. for me my HB never said that. He was the one ask me bring, netbk, PSP etc... Lol.

Mrs Long: Nice to know ur HB is supportive. Dun stress urself too much. Not gd.

Ceres: yr hubby dun want u to be bored while staying in hosp hehe. i'm aldy bored at home, watching tv n surfing net while waiting, hehe. i better refresh on the childbirth n bf bk.

Mrs Long: do take good care..most importantly is to think positive. My wife was also crying non stop when my bb was "detained" for 1 more day the other time round...so i guess it norm...after awhile will be ok. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

YTD my boy was having a cranky day....morning was not sleeping...wide awake..put him into cot..he will make noise after 1 hour when nobody attend to him...

Then at night..eyes are wide open...think he only sleep in total for 3 hours..feed 3 time...want to be comfort...not too sure why the sudden change in behavouir...sigh

Ceres, 3pcs maternity pad not enough... I brought 5 pcs but not enough, in the end ask my hb to bring me more the next day. I go toilet 1 time change 1 time.

Cheery: Oh... KKH got give 1 pack of maternity pad so i bring 3 pieces extra.. Think i bring 1 more extra.

Ling: u give birth yet?

Mrs long,

hormones making u emo...hmm, try massaging ur breast, did u feel any lumps? Could be block ducts like keer's case. Get a masseur quickly go clear them.

mrslong -- jia you.. must remind urself its the hormones.. dun let it take over u.. must stay focus.. dun worry, ur milk will come. i think u must have been reading a lot abt us bfing so naturally u will feel stress..

but all of us also were like u.. and worse, i didnt even know how much colostrum i was producing.. first few days, bb got a lot of reserves, so its a time for u to practise latching but not necessary feeding. once u practise enough, the milk will kick in and u will be ready to feed bb when the reserves are used up.

i remember in my mind was not about feeding bb cause i know if i got no milk, i got alternatives. but my goal was to be able to latch bb properly so the rest can fall in place nicely.

stay focus ya.. talk to ur hubby and let him share this parenthood with u too... [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Sean -- growth spurt perhaps. feed on demand. check diapers, change bb sleep position, let him latch and see if he wants more milk or not.

sometimes bb jus want body contact, even holding hands, patting also considered. try not to carry too much. if u need to, dun carry bb immediately when u hear him cry so he will be patient enough to wait...

my bb also gimme a good time last night after her cleaning session.. 9pm to 1am.. it all ended when its time for her next feed and she suckle and slept till 5am this morning and everything was back to normal.

sometimes, its also their waking time.

oh ya, do take note what time bb does this. if its colic, normally it will happen arnd the same time for the same duration de... bb tend to have colic. u can google and read about it. theres no remedy for it, but u can try gripe water..

Ling: So now left Cool, you & me.. Me inducing today tmr then can give birth according to doc. cuz i still 1com dilate only. Ytd she mention BB engage... Wow finally after so long..

Serene: thanks for your advice...but my bbis just 10 days old,...dont think can drink gripe water right?

In fact we seldom carry him as well..dont want him to be used to.we usually just pat and he will be ok..but not for last night...dunno y also.

We apply the Ru Yi oil on his tummy, sing, and etc to coax him to rest...but all failed.

wah ceres you bring so many gadgets? A bit surplus, remember to rest more, those gadgets should meant for your hubby who will entertain himself while you rest!

hey all.. new mummy here...

wanna check with u all.. for those who breastfeed... how long roughly does your bb latch on for? Mine is 2.5 weeks old and used to do 25-30min on 1 breast and if he still wants more.. it will be 10min on the other... but these two days, he only does 10mins and he unlatches himself. Owise he will be fussy and cries and struggles when he is still latched on - not getting any milk and hurting my nipples. Any advise?

welcome claudia.... I read from somewhere saying BB will improve their suckle such that they will get the milk from your breasts at a shorter time... dun noe how true it is though...

thanks eliss.. i hope so but can tell he is still hungry... wanna suck but when latched on, suckle abit then start crying n struggling n stop again after 5-10mins... affects his sleep n feed to feed is now 2hrs instead of 3hrs. hope its a phase n juz his mood

have you been total breast feeding? or supplement with bottle feeding? could it be nipple confusion?

claudia -- sometimes bb will lose focus also... what i do is that, i will latch her on and if she doesnt latch on for at least 15 mins (if she fails to do so, she will be getting on fore milk which will not make her full). i will burp her, do something to wake her up and latch her back again.

u got check bb poo poo? it shud be yellow custard which means bb is getting all the fore and hind milk. if its greenish, bb is only taking in fore milk which might explain why his always hungry.

but if he still insist his way, then no choice but to feed him every 2 hourly. for bfing bb, our golden rule is.. feed on demand, even if its hourly. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] jia you.. u are almost there liao

sean -- my mother friend who was a CL told me that for newborns, can feed 1/4 teaspoon... i did that when celeste was 2 weeks old then now shes taking 1 teaspoon dosage. but its sweet so i dun wanna use spoon.. i use the yakult straw to feed her... use a hanky on his chin.. cause it may flow out of his mouth and its sticky.. oh oh.. remember to feed water. some mommies dilute it with water too..

tks all for the encouragement [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

feeling much better now from sharing here.

Like what Serene said, practise latching 1st I guess. My BB is latching alright, so I guess my next step is to focus on "milk production".

Going home to try pumping to stimulate milk production to see if it helps too.

Thanks mummies & a daddy!

keer13, i am using the medela freestyle. thumbs up for this high perf pump (i used ameda for #1).

first wk, takes less than 10min to clear the breasts with pretty good output (100ml). now bb around 13 day old, on top of latch, i can still pump out 200ml + of bm at 5 hr interval in less than 15 minutes. so far, i don't spend >20 mins at the pump. it's fast and efficient in extraction of milk for me. clears the breast totally as well.

mrslong -- hugz, dun stress ur body up.. jus do the normal routine of latching and pumping and it will kick in.. drink a lot of fluids too.. it helps me tremendously. relaxing also helps.. like... 10 mins of lying there do nothing think nothing.. then i can feel tingling at my boobs area..

sean -- sometimes its jus body contact that they need. take this time to learn the different cues ur bb gives.. it will help u a lot and save a lot of ur time. learn to recognize the various types or whines and cries ur bb makes and trial n error what he wants.. next time very easy for u liao. be patient, cause crying is their only way to communicate..

hi keer, i juz got my freestyle on sunday... starting using already... plus point it's definitely the non-power plug restrain!

Since my office does not have nursery room, I would probably pump in restroom lor... so this freestyle should work alright...]

FReestyle users - do your BM leak from the shield esp when you need to remove the shield from your breasts? when i removed mine, quite a bit of BM will leak leh, heart pain!

gd morn mummies: didn't sleep well last nite due to super cranky bb...he had been crying n crying for almost a whole day yesterday.

like some mention...hand carry n shake n pat til finally fall aslep, once put dwn starts all over again...

finally he topple off at 4.30am n i can manage to catch back 4hrs of sleep til next feed..now he still sleeping..hopefully he won't be cranky today.

vernie: cool...can go shopping liao..just nice 8/8/2010 will be bb 1st mth bb shower..after tt monday can go shopping with bb le..Woohoo..

Eliss, yes it does leak a bit (but very little lah) when remove the funnel. the ones that come with the pump are soft funnels. i have the normal funnels as well . u might wanna buy that from BP, that has minimal leakage when you remove after pumping.

freestyle: switching between the stimulation and expression phase, will let you have more letdowns so do experiment to see how best yield from the pump!

i miss her new new born days.. eat sleep eat sleep eat sleep

she wont whine for shower.. now she does... she must be bathed before 3pm.. not i say one.. its she herself wants this to be done.. if not she will whine and whine. it took me a while to realise that she was whinning for bath!

i miss those days when she will jus fall asleep after every feed.. now.. im hoping for her to close her eyes when she drinks...

sometimes i get so tired entertaining her that i jus want to chuck her one side and jus go eat a cake or something.

its been a long while since i ate hot fresh food... each time my hubby ta bao for me.. by the time i eat, food is cold.. noodle also pong liao... [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]
