(2010/07) July 2010 MTB

jellypurin,

i am done with the kids too!!

even gynae says my tummy is flabby. if you can withstand the heat, u should wear the tummy binder as much as u can. i cant wear too long cos i get rashes.

its the hips that need to go down and that will take a while cos the "pan gu" open already.

Regarding MILK BOTTLES,

rem the bottle strike a few days back, we have switched from Nuk teats to Avent number 1, number 2. And now we using number 3 even though its stated that its for 3mths plus. the number 2 teat milk flow is so slow that my boy gets so angry and so much air goes in and he refuses to drink

congrats Shann!

Lactation consultant said my colostrum is very little. And milk supply may also be limited due to my boob size (boohoo) so may hv to feed BB every hr to clear & stimulate milk supply.

Can already start to feel the pressure, esp from my MIL. Kept saying BB's hungry and not enough milk, even tho we told her this few days are just colostrum & BB working on his sucking reflexes but she doesn't seem convinced!

I will try my best to provide BM to my BB but may try to supplement with FM if all else fails.

junie: dont be discourage..it happen to my wifey too.if the bb after sucking still hungry..think they will "signal" us...during then..we also choose to supplement with FM cos scare he may be hungry

hmm...after reading some of the thread...i start to wonder if it normal for bb to get lesser sleep...cos just called my wifey...she mentioned that bb din slp until 1 hrs ago...although he din kicj much fuss

Hi all Mummies.. Finally managed find some time to update my status here.. It's been a tough week coping with Baby Brayden..

Here's my delivery updates..

Water Bag burst on 3am on 17/7.. Plan for normal delivery with epi.. At 3.30pm, heavy bleeding after VE check, gynae suggest emergency C-section.. Baby boy was delivered at 1617 at weight 2990gm..

Will update the rest whenever I have time...

Take care all mummies.. God bless... [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

BM - i thought size of boobs wont affect milk supply? anyway, dun worry, my boobs not small, I also cant produce much milk... or maybe mine is considered small...hahaha

mrslong: hang in there, don't worri abt the MIL nagging..nt enough supplement with FM loh..now i also still supplement with FM due to bb is a super big eater..he only 2 weeks plus old n aready eating 90 - 100ML liao...his cousin at 3mths eating 120Ml with spits up somemore..n his cousin is so much bigger size than him..

i will try to pump every 4 hrs to feed him wat eva BM i had..

colostrum is the best antibodies tt a mum can give, so let bb suckle on it wor..

Vivi, I changed the teat (2-3mths) for her last feed, indeed she drank much faster. Maybe u should change the teat to bigger hole?

Yo sean.

maclaren XT is not bad. 400+ though. 6.5 kg.

though it does not 'envelop' the baby at a young age. thk can use to 5 or 6 yrs old

Junie: Congrats!!! Take care and have more rest. As for BF, get as much help as you can from the lactation consultant while in hospital. People ard you like mom, MIL, CL will be giving you pressure but you must believe u can do it! It is ok to supplement with some FM at first. It’s better so that you would not be so stress and that would help in the milk supply coming in faster.

Phy, I lost about 8kg as of the 8th day after delivery. Still got a bit of tummy but seems smaller now after the 1st day of my postnatal massage.

Sun_tan, I also got latching and milk supply problem during the first 3 days. Luckily got the lactation consultants in MAH to help. Among the lactation consultants that we met, me and my husband like Wang Yan the most. She is really very good and patient and really solved our problem. I think you would have probably discharged already. If you still got problem when you are home, you can call MAH parentcraft to help.

Sean: my son also did not poo for 2 days before a pooing a big amount. According to my baby’s doctor, it is ok even if bb did not poo for 5 days. So long as the stool is consistent, as in not too hard or not too watery. As for the rash, I also heard before can use destin cream.

Ann: for gripe water I do not give everyday. I only give when bb dun poo poo.

Sweetkiss: if latching is painful it means that the position is not correct. If it persist, you might want to see help from lactation consultant. If you are going back to hospital for check-up, can approach the lactation consultant there.

Shann Yheng, So happy for you that you have colostrum just after bb Chloe is born. Your hard work has paid off. My colostrums only came at the 3rd day and it’s really upsetting initially when I could not give any food to my bb Nathan. For my next pregnancy, I shall follow you and stimulate my nipple before my EDD =)

took bb for 1st review after he's 1 week old yesterday and doc say he got jaundice. blood test result is 281 so we quickly admit him to hospital for the photo therapy. ard midnight, we went to visit Nathan and also passed the EBM to the nursury. really missed Nathan while he is at the hospital. Today the jaundice dropped to 158 (or 9 in another unit of measurement) and doc say he can discharge just need to sun him more often and try to feed more often.

Didn't know that 1 week old he need to eat 60-80ml/feed already. every time i pump can only get ard 45ml. must really work hard to try to increase my milk supply to meet his demand. was super tired yesterday running here and there. luckily I had my postnatal massage yesterday which was superb! felt so good from head to toe.

oops 1 week old drink 60 ml...my BB gal already almost 1 month, still drink that amount...how ? she wont finish even we add to 80ml...

my baby was drinking 40ml/feed every 3 hrs when she was 1 week old and PD said ok leh... isit bcos of jaundice, that's why need to drink more?

irene: think we gt the same big eater at home..1st few days eating at 60ML, after tt will increase to 75 then 90 very fast...hee hee hee

Eliss: it's ok tt bb didn't take in as much due to size and appitite..slowly week by week increase 5ML to let bb get use to the increase..

if u had big eater bb like ours, u would be screaming liao.. milk powder very fast finish loh..i feeding mine similac infant 1, 2 weeks only he finish half the can liao..

sean: u can try looking at combi mechanic or combi lightweight, foldable with 1 handed and very light weight..I using graco citilite, same as combi can fold 1 handed n self standing, light weight too n i pay around 300 after discount at taka fare tt time.

cheery: not because of jaundice tt's y drink more. is because bb is hungry..first week is normally like tt 1..they feed around 2-3hrs once..after tt will drag to 3-4hrs once..the volume of milk intake also varies week by week or even day by day...

once u notice bb sleeping time shorten with the same amt of milk u give, it's almost time to increase the milk intake volume liao..coz bb didn't drink enough tt's y waking up earlier for milk faster.

Eliss:

don worry

my gal also. by the time she 2 mths old she was still drinking only 60ml.

so when the same age bb is drinking at 240ml, she is still drinking 150ml. when we go for routine check, the nurse comment she is quite small, but compare the weight to the height, she is still in the normal range.

so now at 22mth plus, compare her classmate, she is smaller a bit.

sean -- i bought capella s705 at $295. usual price is about $360.. i went to test drive combi, realise its very light and when i put bb and if i need to hang things on the handle, the stroller will tombalik..

oh ya, sean, every baby is different. theres no SOP to follow. we all follow our bb's flow. as long as u dun let bb sleep more than 5 hours (at this point) for feed its ok.

what i did was to start a routine right at the start. i make her get used to 2 hour drinking frm morning till night. and midnight is feed on demand which she will wake up every 3 hour so i can have enough rest also. now she more or less wake up arnd the same timing unless she is fuss at that feed and drag all the timing back..

remember, parenting theres no SOP. we follow the bb's flow. take it easy, relax.. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] we have a long way to go..

gripe water

i feed celeste every 2 feeds, which is about 6 hourly cause the box indicate can take up for 4 dosage a day. instead of 1 teaspoon, i only gave her half teaspoon. i dun mix with water, i let her drink then i bottle feed some water to her then latch her liao...

what brand gripe water do you all feed your baby? i bought the woodward brand, tried it yesterday, didn't like it at all. now i'm hesitant to feed it to her.

after reading above posts, feel more comforted. coz in hosp for jaundice at 1 wk old, the nurses insist my bb drinking 100ml. at home i struggling w 80ml , man. usually average 60ml

any sleepy babies ? my bb seem to be zzz most of the time. 12 day old already. doesn't wake up much, just drink and zzz [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

Pillow:

when my bb is in hospital, the nurse manage to feed him 25ml, but when i try to feed him, it won't drink. so when he is admit for jaundice, my hb felt is gd also, cos the nurse can mange to feed him. when at hm, we had hard time feeding him.

my bb is sleepy bb also. been sleeping, sometime it will wake up for awhile, other than that, he will only wake up when it time for feeding.

sometime he will overslept his feeding time, i will just wake him up to drink.

same here, my bb so far only wake up for feeding. other than that zzz most of the time.

now at 12 day old, she's waking up 2-3 hr for her feeds. sometimes oversleeping. i hope it's not coz of jaundice that's still mkg her v sleepy.....

Hmm, I guess I have to go the inducing pathway too. My gynae says since I've diabetes, she suggests I induce tomorrow, (already 40th week), I wonder how things will turn out. Sounds like most mummies will need a c-section when they are induced. I'm only 1.5cm dilated, and cervix not yet effaced. Anyone has any recommendations?

pillow -- jaundice bbs will tend to be more sleepy.. and its also normal for newborns to sleep more.. they will be more alert soon.. i miss her first few days... haha

Ceres

when he was admit for jaundice, we did went to hospital to see him, and i also manage to feed once at there, so during that time, he got no problem drinking. when we go fetch him back, he was drinking 60ml, so i never ask the nurse. now at day 15, he is drinking 90ml EBM.

okie, shall be patient [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] haha i read about babies here seem to have a lot of "activity". but mine is perpetually sound asleep. i hardly see her open her eyes.

Julie -- according to what my gynae explained, if already dilated, it should be safe to induce and chances of having reaction (further dilation) will be higher if u are alr dilated.

i suggest u trust your gynae.. dun worry too much.. i was induced but ended up csect.. i wasnt prepared and i feared. but i tell myself, bb safe and healthy is more impt. and when i woke up after the op, im glad i accepted whatever that came. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

pillow -- i enjoyed the days when i dun need to have a "staring" war with her.. lol.. nowadays, she will be alert in the afternoons and we start to stare at each other. no matter how i try to make her sleep, she jus stare at me.. haha.. and i have tons of laundry to do and housework to do.. i need her to sleep so i can do it within that 2 hours..

enjoy this moment.. keke.. now i very scared she open her eyes big big..

pillow: jaundice will make bb sleepy, be sure to wake bb up for milk..n try to feed BM to jaundice bb..mine too had jaundice for the 1st week..n i keep having to wake him every 2 hrs due to his sleepiness..no choice de..

u will notice his pee is abit pinkish pinkish for jaundice bb and if BM is yellow poo..it will flush out the jaundice in them.

Pillow,

ya jaundice does cause lethargy. Just feed more and regularly. My 17 day old boy also drinking 90 ml every 3 hourly since 5 days old.I try to express abt or more that amt for feeds. Whenever volume drops, I quickly ask my mil to brew me papaya fishsoup [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] got a few bottles in chiller. Already TBF since wk back.

serene, me too. i'm always very scared when i see my bb open her eyes big big. she just won't sleep. but unlike your bb, mine wants to be carried. and sometimes when we carry, she'll still cry. i spend so much time in my bedroom, i don't bother to change out of my pj. it's so discouraging sometimes.

Shann: I was tell Irene will end up c-sect or not... cause i remember ur case but i forgot u r also her patient. Then she told me not to worry most likely won't.. i think she trying to give me confidence and not to worry too much.

babycoco

hmm.. my bb will cry for carry but i refuse to.. then i just let her cry or jus put my hand on her. i tahan for a few rounds.. now she cries for carry when shes hungry.. if its jus for fun, can tell from her cries.. now she prefers to be pat which is more convenient.. i hope it will remain this way ba..

lasery2k -- sometimes celeste will like tat also.. this morning lor... haizz.. but heng its like.. once a week? thats when we had a long day outside.. lol..

Hmm, been wanting to ask... can't we just leave BB in cot or bouncer? I don't really carry my boy (would love to but doesn't want him to get used to it). I usually leave him in his cot and switch on the musical mobile or bouncer (day time. Sometimes when he wants some attention, I'll sit on my bed, draw my legs up and plop him on my legs. Then I'll sing or chat with him.

Like now, he's beside me on his bouncer. ZZzing away. Night time I let his Dad spend some quiet moments with him while I try to catch up with #1.

its normal lasery... my friend also like tat. its really up to individual, some can tahan some cannot.. and sometimes also because we worried parents will fault us and catch their attn..

keropi, when i latch or pump, initially will feel a bit sore but after a while ok. if bb is latching correctly, only the initial few suck will feel a little pain then will be ok. if not, need to pull him away and latch again else will sore. do use some nipple cream if you have sore nipple. i used avent nipple cream when i had sore nipple while i was in hospital trying very hard to latch bb.
