ceres

very common for chinese babies to have jaundice. my mom was talking to the nurses at the hospital and they told her almost 100% chinese babies will kena. must be our diet lah. nothing to do with when baby is born

serene

ya, just ren lor. what goes around comes around lah. vege also wanna "tham chiak" - what a glutton!

my baby still have slight jaundice around her cheeks. when she was discharged, nurse said to monitor, if goes all the way down to the umbilical stump/belly button, must go to hospital liao

mummies do you find your bb sleep less and less now during the day? what do your bbs do when they're awake? my bb doesn't know how to entertain herself in her cot, after few mins will start to fuss and cry and we have to carry her. don't want her to get used to being carried every time she cries, but i notice that if i let her cry too long, by the time i carry her, it'll take a very long time to sooth her. any advice?

baby coco -- my bb will wake for for 2.5 hours straight now. from 1pm - 3+pm.. i leave her on the cot, then i will pack the room but i will keep talking to her from a distance so she know im arnd.. and she will look arnd the room lor..

ica -- but i still worried wor.. dunno how long will this last.. bb's 3 weeks old but jaundice havent go off.. a bit worrying..

babycoco: yes! my baby is 26 days old and has started to be more awake in the day. i sing her nursery rhymes and songs. sometimes i play the "brainy baby" cd which is actually a compilation of classical tunes, place her at her sleeping wedge and allow her to "explore" the surroundings with her eyes.

i read somewhere that sometimes when they cry when they are awake it is due to boredom so i try as much as possible to amuse her

serene, cherry.sue, thanks. will try to play music & talk to her instead of always carrying her. i guess she's just bored lying in the cot by herself. but i don't want her to get into the habit of being carried all the time.

Hi all! Thanx for hearing me out! Sorry I couldnt reply earlier coz my hands are so tight and I'm so sleep deprived. I have taken over the night feeds in case my nanny overfeed my baby behind my back esp at night. I try to latch my baby as often as I can but coz I'm so so tired.. she refused my breast at times. I think its bcoz my supply is low. Now I try to feed her more frequently but lesser amt. She juz been crying ALOT since I took over her feeding coz she is used to so much formula milk at one go! And having to latch every couple of hours and suckle for milk seems to frustrate her a lot. I really dunno what to do now. She still ve phelgm in her throat and she spill out a lot of milk after every feed although she has been blurp. Should I be concern? We called her PD to ask abt milk spilling from mouth and nostrils and doc believe hers is a case of overfeeding. Was asked to monitor bb. Several times while bb was sleeping .. her chin, neck, top and bedsheets are all very wet from spilling of milk. And it is not a tablespoon or two lor. Its much more. REally very worried.

Btw how long can your bb sleep at one go? It is true that newborn bb shouldnt sleep for more than 5hours at one go?

Ica: Wonder what we eat that causes it.. hopefully not chocolate. -.- i am eating alot of it since the last 2mths..

What can we do to amuse the new borns? Dunno what to do if they bored..

Feel like slapping them! arrrgggghhh... *hugz* *hugqz* Baby celeste will heartache if she knows her mummy cries.. you must be strong and dun let those bunch of nasty pple bully u ok! Can ask your hubby to tell them not to touch your food!

just popped - BB was 3.38 kg. took about 10 hours of labour .. now home & doing confinement - quite pissed with confinemnt lady whom i'd asked in morn how come water in bathtub so yellow (when I walked in) then she reluctantly said baby urine & shit in water. Worst of all, she was still happily washing baby! as per normal. i had to ask her to rinse baby down again!

bbmermaid

so yes i agree, some CL can be quacks and some are just plain lazy i think. really makes me mad

jolyn

hope enzo better now. my breastmilk only just kicked in so cant share any tips .. better or not, no more blood already?

atomic kitten, my bb also has been spitting up milk, and like yours, not just 1 tablespoon, but quite a lot. but what i've been reading from the website seems to say it's quite normal for newborn? although in your case, maybe better check with PD?

don't be discouraged by your bb's feeding habits. it's definitely easier to drink FM than BM. so give her time to get used to breastfeeding again. in the meantime, hope your CL isn't giving you more nonsense.

Sneak out and went to Pigeon Sale at ard 3 plus...Nothing much left, only left bottles and some baby pants...a wasted trip...apparently the baby wipes, liquid laundry detergent all sold out liaoz...

Hi Mummies

Congrats to all who have popped. My baby boy has popped on 1st July, natural birth with epidural. For those who have not popped and have low pain tolerance like me, pls opt for epidural. Epidural is really a great help to me as my labour took almost 12hrs.

By the way, i believe this topic may have been discussed earlier but i may have missed some of the post. I am just wondering if i am breastfeeding my baby via direct latch, how will i know if i have fed him with the right amount? Do we gauge via the no. of wet diapers a day?

AK -- all along, i dun wan hubby to step in. i told him to catch his mom red handed himself. but my smart MIL always action when no one at home.

i cried, then celeste saw me when she was at her cot.. then she started crying too! ai yo.. i so heart pain..

Grace,

Just saw your photo on F8 FB. So nice and you are so slim alr! So smart, from skirt become tube dress. Nice! [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Serene : your MIL really NASTY! ya like what others say..what goes around, comes around! You hang on in there! Juz think of Celeste... let her be your comfort & motivator! jia you!

Pink -- congrats and yup.. at least 6 wet and soaked diapers everyday.. ur bb shud look satisfied after feed. if bb cries, feed on demand. hmm.. guide line is at least 20 mins each side. but as u go, u might not be able to latch on both sides each feed. so jus latch on one side until bb is satisfied.

if bb is a sleepy bb, wake bb up often. for me, i will wipe her face also before feed. talk to her until shes awake then latch her.. once she hits about 30 mins (she latches on one side now) i will watch for her cues.. if she fall asleep, i will burp her and try the other side. but if she refuse and continue to fall asleep, i jus let her sleep. if she really didnt have enough, she will wake up in an hour for more. normally if full fed, she will sleep for 2-3 hours.

at night i feed on demand. day time i feed every 2 - 2.5 hourly.

ak -- oh ya, dun let ur bb go 5 hours unfed. 5 hours = 1 full night.. bb is still too young to go unfed for 5 hours.

i feel very sad for u.. dun worry.. let bb get used to u and u can get used to it. i have no CL and taking care of bb since she came back myself. its damn damn tiring de. i doze off many times while feeding her.. fell asleep at her cot... but soon, u will get used to it. sleep when bb is sleeping. if u scared u will pass the feeding time, have a alarm clock with u.

esp now, u need to establish supply, try to go strictly on 2 hourly feed first. wake bb up for feeding to latch. once milk is established, u can feed on demand in the nights lor.. more relax.

what u plan to do with the CL? she know u can sue her for over feeding?

ak -- what to do.. and i cannot vent it out in my blog or fb directly wor! cause my SIL is in my fb.. my niece and BIL also.. haizz.. i really feel like slapping her sometimes.

once i get my own house, i will move out and we will draw a THICK line liao. i think we had enuff

Cheerymum -- i will use normal warm water from heater to shampoo hair. then wash it clean. after that i will use herbal water to go over.. keke.. if not how to make it clean.. lol

serene.. jiayou.. afew more days to go right?

cheerymum,

i just use herbal water to wash hair, then shampoo then herbal water to wash over.

then i blow my hair... but there is a strong herbal smell. i totally hate it.

cheerymum: I fill my bathtub with half hot water, and pour in lemongrass+ginger water to fill it up. Then I soak for 15 mins. After that I wash with normal hot water for both body and hair. Hahaha but Im not very conventional so better not follow me =D

ceres: Shiok man! Im not allowed to eat ice cream lor. My family today ate mochi ice cream in front of me argh!

Tomorrow I am going to sneak out and watch inception with hubby! =D

Bottle Feeding EBM/FM

How often do you mummies sterilize the bottles? Do you take the sterilized bottles out, assemble them and then store them outside the sterilizer (ready to be used whenever u need to feed)? Coz for Avent sterilizer, the content is only sterile for up to 6 hours if u don't open the lid right? If i open the lid and take one bottle to use, then i have to sterilize the others again. Trying to establish a more efficient use of the sterilizer here. Anyone can help?

Also how do u dry those water droplets that stays on the bottle after sterilization?

Jaclyn: I'm trying to enjoy before i start my Confinement... Heh.

Vernie: If me i sterlise then after finish using then strelise all.. find it funny if nv use & sterlise it.

ha Jaclyn me also sneaking out for inveption with HB tomoorrow... hahaha... pumping more now to have enough for BB gal tomolo...

cheerymum - I will usually top up the herbal water with normal heater water... cos most of the time herbal water alone not enough for me... so i mix them & use it for washing my hair

Hi Mummies, did not dare come in cos i'm afriad to read about your birth stories cos i'll get very anxious when i read... hee.... seems like many of you alredy popped! Congrats to all of you! Me still waiting... so bored at home...

HELP NEEDED: Info on Dr Lai Fon Min

Hi Mummies, Sorry to intrude. I'm from the Sept 2010 thread.

I'm now 32w pregnant and wish to change docs to Dr Lai Fon Min. I desperately want someone who's open to waterbirths. Had terrible tear in my first delivery cos my doc wouldn't let me use any position other than in stirrups. I searched the board and see that some of you here have him as your doctor.

If your doc was Dr Lai, could you kindly PM me and share your experience with him and his charges? Thanks so much in advance.

I think i will just use normal heater water to wash my hair and bathe le. Yday tried using the herbal water to bathe but i cannot tahan the smell...

Vernie,

I just leave everything inside the steriliser until i hv finished using all the bottles before sterilising again. No need to dry the water droplets that stays inside the bottles aft sterilise.

Kepsis: I am also waiting... & enjoy while waiting. Eat what u can drink wat u can do wat u can rest as much as u can!

I tdy start my maternity leave.. now doing botox mask...

Haha~

eliss

i am tinkin of sneaking out to watch Inception also but then if caught out whilst supposed to be doing "confinement" i bet e 2 sets of parents wont be too pleased [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

Serene, have you been bringing baby to polyclinic for jaundice check? Good to do so at least you know if the level is reducing. If the level remains or increases more than 2 weeks for a term baby, should go for liver function test, according to a website I googled.

Hael: Actually going out is fine... just wear jacket or long pants out lor... once out u can remove ur jacket hahaha... my mum taught me that...

I went causeway point and tampines mall and century square with my bb on Sunday morning (less crowded hours), shop till about lunch hour, my HB still take away POPEYE from Century Square go home eat...

you see, Ang Mo after giving birth, within 1 month they bring their bb go around visiting. They wear casual n comfortable clothing... =)

I think going out or not still need to see both side parents..

If parents ok as long as u do what they tell u, then ok. Some they forbid or no matter wat u do they also think going out is wrong then better not.

I dun wan to make both side unhappy.. haha.

Hi all mummies and mummies to be!

I am from the August thread, and I have just given birth on last fri. My bb is around 36weeks4days. He is a sleepy baby and tends to sleep a lot in the day and night. Do I have to wake him up for feeds? Cos some say need to, while some say no need..I am confused.

Also, my milk has not come yet, is very little. Is my baby getting enough milk from me? Or it is normal and i should just wait for my milk to come? I have been trying direct latching since day one of his birth..please advise me!! Thank you!!!

Hi Charliebrown,

congrats to you! As for whether you should wake your baby up, best person to ask is your Pediatrician. For me.. starting I will wake him up. Because newborn (especially yours is quite young ! 36weeks), they are very sleepy and will not wake up for food on their own. Now my son is 12 days old, he will wake up on his own when he is hungry. Timing wise around 2-3 hours or longer if he had a bigger feed previously.

All in all, he should wet at least 6-8 diapers a day. Then you know he is getting enough [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

junie

me just tired from all the traveling from home to office and these days, i seemed to hv contractions at diff times of the day. safer to stay home so ask dr for HL.

Atomic Kitten -

My bb also have the prob of puking her feed out and I think it was due to overfeeding as well. Upon advise by my PD, I reduce her feed and things are better now. My PD also gave me ridwind as the vomitting of feed cld be due to wind in the stomach esp when the CL has been feeding her with FM so much and often. (My CL did the same thing too!! I was so angry )

I also hve supply issues with my BM and what I do is I will latch bb for say 1 hr and after that if she still wants milk , I will give her abt 1-1.5 oz of formula milk. Now she is in her wk 3 and she demands up to 2 oz of FM despite latching. You just use your instincts else you will be very very tired from all the breastfeeding and bb will be equally tired too.

increase milk supply

not sure whether it truly works. but on day 4 (yesterday for me), i pump in the morning, only yield 10ml. on day 3 and 4, i was drinking a lot of fluids and red date logan tea (flasks of it). by just day 4 nite only, i pumped 70ml at one sitting.

mummies, do give a try. increase fluids, drink lots of red date logan tea and rest , rest rest
