hbb, the papaya fish soup sounds so yummy! I heard that the papaya is good for BM ya? I took vernugreek leaf, the real veggie, bought from wet market one. Dunno what's the name here, but my maid bought for me in the wet market, she know the shape of the leaves. We called it daun katub. It's something like tapioca leave. Boil it then just drink the water (tasteless). The next day my BM supply tripled! once the nipple got pinch or sucked by the baby, it will squirt out like water fountain. no kidding!, it can be like 50cm high from your nipple shoot to the ceiling. hahaha...sometime my boy face also kena till wet.got 1 time also my nipple accidentaly press something then the milk shoot my husband face!

U r so rite about the chopping part at medical halls.. My mum also told me dun go buy myself coz sure get chop!!! heeheeheehee

etirto
Wow.. the leaves so power!!!!! can share how to get them at the wet market?? as in what kind of stalls sell them and how to describe it to the aunties there...

HERBS
i also quite clueless on what herbs. will just leave to CL, MIL and my mum to sort it out. i'm still taking birdsnest. never heard of it being heaty. thot its neutral. maybe its the herbs you cook with that makes it heaty ?

BIG TUMMY
yup my tummy is so big that i cant sleep at night, even though i use like 800 pillows. but i try to focus on good side is that big tummy = bigger bbies. my tummy is quite funny, like to be pointy pointy in front, even when i lie on my back, it is still quite pointy, not flopping to the sides. guess my girls like to hang out on the front seat

----------------------------

Week 3~4 menu design: Focuses on replenishing blood, “chi” or energy levels, prevention from aging and improving circulation. Here, our main dish is black sesame oil chicken and Chinese medicinal broths.

-----------------

The concept of post delivery confinement relates to very specific post-natal care for one month after childbirth. Predominantly a Chinese practice, this one month period known as the confinement period is believed to be a crucial time where the new mother’s strength and vitality must be properly replenished to prevent ailments like premature ageing or rheumatism from setting in.

Apart from being a preventive measure against health problems, certain ingredients used in the special diet during the confinement period is also intended to help boost the body for milk production.

Various ingredients found in confinement food recipes eg. ginger, black vinegar, sesame oil, rice wine, eggs, red dates etc. are ingredients very commonly used in everyday Chinese cooking. These seemingly humble and simple ingredients make up the core of confinement food cooking due to their distinctive health-enhancing values targeted at strengthening and boosting the vitality of the new mother.
The specific health benefits of some confinement food ingredients and a sample of the dishes they are featured in can be found below:

Old Ginger
-----------
A mainstay of confinement food, it is used mainly to dispel “wind” from the body. It is generally believed that the new mother will find significant traces of “wind” in her body after childbirth. If left unchecked, it may lead to ailments like rheumatism or inexplicable aches and pains later in life.
Ginger is also useful in supporting good intestinal digestion and overall blood circulation.
Most confinement dishes use some amount of old ginger. Some tasty confinement dishes featured in our menu using a fair amount of old ginger include Long Bean with Pork with Ginger, Stir Fried Fish with Ginger and Spring Onions as well as Stir Fried Chicken in Mushroom Sauce and Ginger.

Black Vinegar
-------------
Traditionally known for its curative ability to help purify the blood and cleanse the arteries, black vinegar is used in one of the most popular confinement dishes, Pork Knuckles in Ginger and Vinegar. The generous amount of vinegar used in the cooking readily dissolves the calcium content in the pork bones, resulting in a delectable dish of succulent pork in healthy, calcium-rich gravy.

Sesame Oil
----------------
Rich in Vitamin E, iron and calcium, sesame oil is used in many confinement food recipes largely due to its “heaty” nature as the new mother is advised to avoid “cooling” foodstuff which may unnecessarily induce “wind” in the body.
It also provides nourishment through improving circulation, overall strength and vitality.
Grilled Chicken with Sesame Oil and Ginger, Stir Fried Pig’s Liver with Ginger & Sesame Oil and Sesame Oil with Black Date Chicken Soup are just some of the delightful dishes using sesame oil, done to perfection by our highly skilled in-house chef.

Chinese Wolfberry, Boxthorn Fruit (Gou Qi)
----------------------------------------------
Very high in antioxidant properties, Chinese Wolfberry is commonly consumed to promote good eyesight. It particularly nourishes liver and kidney functions and is also greatly valued for delaying ageing, boosting energy and improving internal strength.
Our special in-house dishes featuring Chinese Wolfberry are Steamed Beancurd with Minced Pork & Chinese Wolfberry and Stir Fried Liver with Chinese Wolfberry.

Black Fungus
------------------
Commonly known to alleviate “dryness” and promote circulation of the body, black fungus particularly aids in nourishing the lungs, stomach and liver.
More importantly, due to its rich iron content, it is exceptionally good for helping to purge the body of stale blood.
The home-cooked goodness of black fungus can be found in our confinement dishes like Chicken Soup with Wine & Black Fungus and Black Fungus with Cauliflower.

Angelica (Dang Gui)
---------------------------
Renowned for its main function as a blood tonic, Angelica is a potent Chinese medicinal tonic used for enhancing blood circulation. Its most common use is by women who consume it on a regular basis to maintain regularity in monthly menstruation cycles.
Mostly used in soup recipes, our menu features nutritious Double Boiled Angelica Chicken Tonic Soup as well as a delicious original creation, Soy Sauce Fish with Angelica.

Red Dates
----------------
Also known to nourish the blood like Angelica, red dates are used in soups or most commonly brewed with dried longan and Chinese wolfberry to be consumed in place of water during the confinement period as drinking plain water is generally discouraged due to the belief that plain water contains “wind”.
Cold water is particularly frowned upon as it may “chill” the body system still recovering from a weakened state after childbirth.
Longan Red Dates Tea using red dates and dried longan is provided free with our confinement meals.
We also offer Red Dates with Papaya Chicken Soup in our menu – a remarkably wholesome soup for purifying the blood and improving blood circulation.

Dried Longan
--------------------
A great tonic for the nourishment of the blood through reinforcing the blood-building functions of the heart and spleen, dried longan is also frequently consumed for its additional benefits like calming the nerves and promoting restful sleep.

Black Bean
------------------
Apart from being a rich source of fibre and folate, black bean provides excellent nutrition for blood circulation due to its iron concentration.
Combined with red dates which are also good for boosting improved blood circulation, Black Bean, Red Dates Spare Ribs Soup is one deliciously wholesome soup any new mother can certainly enjoy during her confinement period.

Tumeric
----------------
Primarily used in Asian curries, tumeric is a powerful antioxidant best known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
We feature a deliciously nutritious dish, Braised Tumeric Chicken in our confinement menu.

Pepper
---------------
Pepper has great antioxidant and anti-bacterial benefits which help promote good digestive tract health. It is generally consumed during the confinement period to help drive out “wind” in the body as well as to promote bowel regularity.
Our menu selections using pepper include Peppered Pig’s Stomach Soup, Black Pepper Chicken and Stir Fried Lean Meat in Black Pepper Sauce with Ginger.

Polygonum (He Shou Wu)
--------------------------------
A renowned Chinese tonic for the nourishment of hair, Polygonum is believed to help decelerate the greying of hair. Through boosting blood circulation, it is particularly effective for reducing postnatal hair loss.
Polygonum is also excellent for maintaining internal strength and vitality, reducing blood pressure and cholesterol on top of yielding anti-ageing benefits.
We cater two very nourishing soups, Pork Ribs Soup with Polygonum and Double Boiled Polygonum & Chicken in our menu.

Encommiae Bark (Du Zhong)
--------------------------------
Also commonly known as Eucommia Bark, by traditional Chinese medicinal definition, Encommiae Bark has warm and calming properties. Its consumption is specifically beneficial in helping to reduce stress and tension as well as to maintain good circulation.
Encommiae Bark is also a marvellous tonic for strengthening the kidneys, hence a life-saving remedy for back aches post delivery.
Encommiae Bark (Du Zhong) Healthy Soup is offered in our menu featuring an extensive list of nutritious soups guaranteed to enhance any new mother’s recovery during the confinement period.

Lily Flower
-------------------
Akin to the Encommiae Bark, Lily Flower is excellent for claming the nerves.
Fried Beancurd with Dried Lily Flower is a dish found in our menu, specially created to complement the postnatal confinement diet.

Preview additional nutritious selections of confinement dishes offered in our menu:

LS,
Hi Did i update you that I went to BB Kingdom supposedly to get a bb changing table with drawers.. In the end, we got a bb cot.. haha.. so funny! Realised that we can use our existing drawers and put a changing tray on the top instead. But we got the cot from there, its really quite useful cos realised that we did not have anywhere for bb to sleep in and cot is definitely safer than putting her on the ground mattress. :D

Bestberries,
You can do it too, am sure your delivery will be very smooth as well!!

just to add:
is it ok to drink the red dates tea or the 8 treasure tea chilled? because I like everything chilled, must be cooled drink. Even the bird nest, after double boil, I put in the fridge, sooo yummy. Does it affect the benefit?

Bestberries, I only singleton and I also find difficult to turn when I sleep.God's blessing I have no problem sleeping, just tummy is heavy, so many ppl asked if I having twins (so wish it's is so they can grow up together and sharing ans caring).

etirto, think the 8treasure has chinese tea leaves which will neutralize the effect of chinese herb if you are taking. There are other food we have to avoid too: radish, chai-poh etc.

Dear all,

I am now living in France, just to share with girls that overhere the doc. prescibe Omega multi vitamin 1 month before delivery to prepare us for breastfeeding. And we are suppose to take it throughout breastfeeding period. So for those that are not able to cook the papaya fish soup, maybe can try to get Omega instead. Anyway is just another vitamin but all the women take it here. The brand i have is OBIGOBS (Vitamines, mineraux, Omega-3) not sure if you can find it i Sing. Hope the abvoe info helps.

BB(aa71), thanks for the name of the multi-vit.
1st qn: this is available w/o doc's prescription from any pharmacy in France?
2: can you be kind to list down the nutrients and dosage in the pill/ capsulse?

Thanks!

BB(aa71), just to add, most of us do have fish oil (I am not sure of the dosage as I don;t take). I am taking Krill oil (from whale food--Krill),
it has 2,200mg marine Lipid Concentrate,
(Omega-3) are 300mg EPA, 200kmg DHA, 100mg of other omega-3 fatty acid.

etirto
wat do u put into the katub?? jst the leave and boil?? You got us all interested in this leave now.. hahahahahahahhaah

jeslyn
besides malt n dang gui

avoid all e white veggies; cauliflower, cabbage, onions, radish, etc as they causes wind n make bb colicky.
in fact.. potatoes too!!! but I noticed it causes wind if u eat it cold for e potatoes

HBB, my neighbor juts told me she was very badly engorged and her CL gave her some cabbage to ease the milk flow, I think surely the cabbage also reduced her milk supply.

kim
cold cabbage def will ease her pain.. but also reduce the supply(althou in mrs wong pre natal class she still advise using cold cabbage)... can try warm towel ... =) (it makes blood circulate properly)
cabbage when taken orally causes wind...

i have this nagging prob w my piles
i dun constipate. my stools are soft...
but i notice everytime i go poopoo.. aft tat anus area will swell badly... even if i LS also will swell
ehh anyone gt same prob as me?

HBB, we are good friend.. I also only hv one constipation and I hv it since I preg, somemore that time I can do after each meal due to the duphaston I was prescribed.. and now the piles is longer. I applied the cream doc gave me but no help, massage told me I have to keep pushing it in to help. But still no help..

kim
haiz duno leh if onli 1 spot ok to push it bk in but if is quite a large area (like now) i duno hw to push it in
and also hor for normal days pre preg.. my pikes is still exterior kind
(heard gt interior n exterior kind) jus tat no swell..
but aft poo sure swell lor

HBB, u took duphaston too? ya, I have this effect after taking but I think not all has this..
My usually swell up like mini float around the A**, but I notice a particular area is longer.

kim
i got brown discharge during my 5th week (or is it 6th) of pregnancy
the moment i saw i fly down to kkh cos i was v worried so they gave me 2 weeks of duphaston thou the doc say shld b old blood..
it stop aft half a day thou.. and the duphaston gave me hell
i was already puking like duno wat aft i ate duphaston i puke even more
and i stop the pill aft 1 week cos i dreaded puking 10 times a day

yes not the pile swell up liek a mini float as wat u describe! bumpy float thats it! grrrr
certain area is bigger

i think my ass looks the same from outside. you mean you can see the swelling from outside ?? i think i took duphaston too, sounds familiar, what is it for ? my doc gave me more lactulose and fybogel since i sasrted taking iberet folic. still on it now.

bestberry
ehh can feel w hand is lumpy
duphaston is a hormones pill taken esp in early part of pregnancy to stablise the pregnancy

most ppl who hav IVF or IUI willt ake that
and those who bleed a little will also take it

Bestberries & HBB, the duphaston actually stop bleeding (or shedding of the uterus lining like mensus) and
thickens lining to aid the embryo(s) sticking in the uterus. Yes, almost 100% prescribed to women who has assisted pregnancy,
but if anyone who suspect their womb being too weak to "hold" the bb or those has bleeding during early pregnancy are usually given.

When my gf conceived naturally after 2 failed IUI, her doc also gave her.
I usually tell friends who are "weak" to ask from their doc.

I also usually feel the bump, but now already can't see there anymore due to size of tummy.

Jamie
Hehehe.. sometimes what we've planned will not turn out to be the way.. So did u get their Dreami cot? I bought that one from them too
happy.gif
O yea, I went to Raffles City Robinson last evening to find the bouncer that u told me but only saw 1 type there.. Very exp! Usual price $179.90 (now $139.90). I remembered seeing the cheaper one for newborn to toddler rocker @Centrepoint Robinson. How much did u get yours last time?

HBB & Sunsweet
Thank u both for the very useful cooking tips! Btw, do u have the recipe for red dates tea? Will u all add black dates in it (besides dried longan)? I forgot the comparison already like how many red dates, how many longan for how much water? As I'll be flying my CL from indo, she might not be here yet during my stay in hospital so thinking to teach my maid to boil daily for me instead.

morning everyone
waiting for my hb to come n pick up us.
happy.gif
start of a new chapter in life today... no more help from nurses... feeling jittery....
happy.gif
missed the bb movement in tummy already.

for mummies who r going c-sect, do ask yr gynae to do a good clean up of the womb. i realised that this time my lochia is so much lesser. i asked gynae why. he told me he did a more thorough clenup of all the excess tissue in the womb. that's why i experience less lochia, less wind n tummy goes down faster. hmmm... i wonder how much weight i've shed off the last 3 days.

hmmm

HBB

i also have the same prob leh... cant see it but can feel it each time i clean up.... got worse after my 1st delivery though.... now wondering if it will be even worse after #2 is delivered?....

ls
I did buy black dates n nan zao bt haven chk w e medical shop hw much to put. I rem either one of them cannot put too much else will b sourish.
