(2009/03) March 2009 MTBs

hi lenny, i am having the same experience as you. My bb doesn't want to eat any semi solid food. Very stress.

Now i make him drink thick liquid FM, i add 1 1/2 to 2 scoops of cereal (depend the type of cereal) into 60ml of FM. And he drinks it.

Have tried to gave him all kind of porrides, he just doesn't want to open his mouth. Super fussy.

misscandy, really envy your baby, not fussy to food

Seabreeze, when my bb refuse to open his little mouth i beat him lightly and he cried loudly.. The daddy will come & recuse him..

wah,..

its pouring,.. hoping to bring bree out later to see christmas lights...
happy.gif

Lenny ...

JIA YOU!! Hope that you find the 'ideal' menu for Bree really soon =)

alfafa ...

Hahahaha by the time i see the date its too late liao ... anyway I had a nice lunch with a fren just now at MOF ... hmmm must say that the food is not bad but a tad expensive ar .. no lunch time special =p

I dun mind lunch at Vivo or The Central if anyone is keen next week =)

talking about drinking from straw...yes surprising she can drink from it. I wondered how she learn from it. I was telling missycandy about it the other day..
From then on, i gave her water by giving straw. She can drink around 20ml each time.

Alfafa, good to hear from u here too. It was alot alive now. My hb doesn't agreed on me back to flying days as we are planning for another sometime May next yr. So no choice, my next life ba... Kekeke

shwufy - she is greedy pig. but skinny like monkie. sigh.

lenny - for brunch, if u have credit card they will send u brochures de.. if not, maybe can check do search in google. sure will have a lot of places having some promo
happy.gif

missy..

i just thrown them away..
sad.gif

since hubby is away for xmas, he is thinking of taking us out to celebrate new yr on 31 dec for brunch.. so.. sourcing now..

cindy,
i saw the cool xmas tree which u mentioned - however, a thought came to me: it will be quite a messy affair if there is strong wind in your house?
anyway, just to share, i heard that Tekka Mall (or The Verge) has quite a lot of xmas trees and decor and i'm planning to check that out
happy.gif

i so envy mummies with baby gals who can make clippies and headbands; is there anything at all that we can make for boys :p

avocado - btw, for mummies who have fed your babies avocado, could you advise how long they can be stored and the method of storage once they are sliced open? thanks!

Ann.. avocado tends to brown. my experience is that it will brown even after a lemon wash. freezing it in chunks only helps a little. when frozen avocado is defrosted, it is mushier then fresh.

Re things to make for boys. Yes there is - lots of toy leashes. I've been going nuts making them for my boy, my friends' babies, even those still in their mummies' tummy =P. am a big fan of leashes cos my boy loves to throw things off his high chair just to watch them fall.

donroxx,
oh no, does that mean i need to finish it within the day - eh, but need to feed for 3 days to rule out allergies right?

oh as for the leashes, could you share how to make them - do u need to sew press-studs on them or something cos those that i bought come with the plastic press-studs?

annt:: Ya! that's why we are still deliberating, but it's quite nice hor!! heheh

thanks for the tip on tekka, will try to drop by see see!

cindy: actually it can also be dangerous cos if the styrofoam balls get blown ard, trishelle might get hold of some and swallow? not to scare you yah, but i have a cushion with those styrofoam fillings and i am always very worried that they might accidentally spill out and get swallowed by my son ..

hi all mummies...

didn't check the thread since i last posted a few days ago :p

ivy, ya, i sent oli to ifc since nov. hb and i felt that it's time for oli to socialize a bit and get more space to move about instead of confining in the comfort of our small, little home
happy.gif
therefore, no more nanny!

About refusing to eat

My boy was eating all the purees, bottled food and nestle cereals untill he turned 7mths. Yup I've been battling with him during meal times since then.

Here are some of my observations:
1. He has a desire to chew - he can chow down quite a bit of normally cooked rice mixed with vegetables than eat porridge
2. He wants to eat on his own

So to solve the above problems I resorted to:
1. Finger foods instead of all the mush (I've looked up recipes in books, on the Internet, etc. This includes rice cakes-- I get the organix brand from cold storage, biscuits which he can hold and self feed)
2. Give him the spoon to play with and slip food in with another spoon while he thinks he is feeding himself.
3. Feed him with my hands (I'm Indian so very normal), use chopstick and even a fork -- he likes the new experience.

He is still fussy but I get more food down his throat this way.

Hope this is helpful

missycandy
oli same same as kirsten, prefers thicker food, doesn't like watery stuff...
oh ya, i received a sewing machine as xmas gift from hb
happy.gif
so i can start doing up some small stuff for myself, though cannot make dresses, cos no daughter YET... hahaha... but of course, got to dig out some time from my busy schedule
sad.gif

lenny:
got ur message in d other thread haha... dun thank me first, try first, dunno whether ur baby will react d same or not... and also ho... i dun recommend giving sugar or baby food containing sugar ok?...like nestle cereal.. my personal preference is not to give sugar n salt as long as i can... but other mommies do not see any harm... hope ur baby will enjoy more solid soon...
happy.gif

Ann(Annt)... erhm.. maybe you try to store in halves or quarters? for me i fed one avocado over 2 days (means i bought a few avocados). cling wrap and remove the brown parts before feeding. so far my boy no "lao sai" so should be ok la =P

re leashes.. making them not difficult. (very easy if you know how to use sewing machine but i dun know so use hand sewing).
dun know how to explain here but if you want to see the finish product just add me to facebook (g y w n 0 0 7 @ hotmail.com). i can take step by step pics the next time i make one.

Jtho... what do the babies do at IFC? I'm in the process of looking for one cos I'm going mad juggling full-time-stay-at-home-mum-while-working-full-time.

re babies refusing to eat
today had some success feeding my boy. put a big drop of applesauce on top of his fish porridge and he ate 5 teaspoon. hooray!!

should change his name to "Apple boy" since that is the only thing he eats =_="

donroxx
babies play with other babies at IFC and they get a lot of space to move around, therefore, motor skill will improve... and once every week, they will have baby gym, to do some activities... when they are older, there will be swimming once every month, if i'm not wrong...

i'm waiting to put my boy in nursery too - he's supposed to start this week, but he's been ill since last week with a terrible cold and cough. thought it's fishy that a fever from that can last for 4 days so had his ears checked and turned out he has an infection too. now on day 2 antibiotics and praying his fever subsides enough for nursery to allow him to attend - taking too many days off work to look after him at home!

Eu Yan Sang Brown Rice Si Shen Powder
Bought in Singapore
I bought too much for my baby would like to exchange for ntuc voucher
I had 5 bottle with me
One bottle exchange for $5 ntuc voucher
if interested kindly email me

annt, haha!! that's exactly the same thing my mom said! and she forbade us to buy. aiyaya.

jtho, great to hear oli is doing so well at IFC, which branch did u send him to, may I ask? hehe. Sent travis (#1) to prenursery when he was 18mths and I must really say he has definitely progressed a lot a lot than he will be if he stayed at home. So i do think, there's no such thing as sneding too early! just that the falling sick part irritates me. haha!

Our march thread mommies are all getting "craftier" and "craftier"! hehe

So nice of herve. I think a sewing machine is a wonderful idea too as it opens up a whole new horizon of possibilities. it is not a must have but isn't it just something nice to have? so when the mood strikes you will not be frustrated by the lack of proper tools available. This is the reason why I bought a singer machine machine during the thanksgiving sale as a parting cum xmas gift for my sil too. I think it really helps our mental health to exercise some creativity every now and then, if not the daily mandane routines can really kill a person's spirit without one knowing. Anyway she is really happy just don't know what to do with it ... yet. haha

Annt,
re advocado, I will buy the really ripe ones (blacked outer skin) and cut them into half. I'll usually use up half the fruit and keep the other half, with the seed in, wrapped up in cling wrap to chill in the fridge. it can last for 3 to even 4 days like this. it's ok if the fruit browns as long as it still tastes normal.

jtho - omg!!! so nice of ur HB to give u sewing machine!!! is he hinting something? ha ha ha! aiya... my hb wld nvr buy me such a thing leh... shucks... maybe u cn sew stuff for oli.. hee hee... hmmm... IFC seems to be a great choice! yeh have heard frm other frns that their babies learn more things at IFC... develop motor skills faster too... Kirs still cant clap or wave bye bye
sad.gif
btw, havent seen u ard for abit. hope shitface isnt drowning u with sai... =P oooh yeah... oli cn share food with Kirs.. hee hee hee

okie.. now i sooooooooo wana get myself a sewing machine... mind churning with ideas already! lolx!

k gotta get bk to wrk. lateRx!

eh. lenny - maybe try rice? maybe she wans to chew. hee

annt, jtho, donroxx

oooooooooooh for little boys there are lotsa things to do too. how about personalising his rompers? Just add appliques to his current tees or rompers e.g his initials, or add something decorative. use felt (must pre wash) or fleece for the applique since these fabrics don't fray. or use denim which will fray very nicely around the edges. for intials you can do hand embroidery.

make a bb necktie for him. how cool is that right?

and of course, toys. make him a 2D teddy bear?
You can buy fabric pens to help you simplify matters e.g. just draw the features instead of sew them.

And of course, make your own taggies hanky! very easy to make just need to buy ribbons.

Also think of something which he could use on his 1st year birthday. I hoping to make her a fabric garland with her name, in time for the celebration. and after that i can just place it in her room.

turn his name into fabric plushies! 2D letters in gorgeous fabrics with a bit of stuffing in between. definitely can be handsewn. felt will be nice for this too as they are v hand sewing friendly.

will think of more ideas later

promeganate,
thanks for sharing! I had 3 days of success so far with feeding her much thicker than usual nestle rice cereal so i'm crossing my fingers here. yah i agree with you tips too. finger food have been great in the meantime. i esp like the heinz farley teething rusks which are hard crispy biscuit that melts soon after they come in contact with water. gracie loves loves loves them. she would gnaw at them to sooth her sore gums. i think it really helped to teach her to chew her food too.

lenny,
inya's inviting us to her place on next tue instead. and if the weather allows we can bring our bbs for a swim too, she lives around bukit timah area. 3pm. come come.

hey here's an idea for our kiddo's first birthday present

hubby and I have to decided to buy her one single lot of a blue chip for her birthday, and we hope to continue this tradition right up till she comes of age. this will be our gift for her to kick start her college years. thought this is a really cool idea. and the best part is there are shares to suit diff budgets. something worth considering.
happy.gif

btw, anyone can think of a suitable short holiday destination over the christmas holiday? given the short notice I can only think of driving up to cameron highland.

Morning mummies,

My boy just fell down while trying to pull himself to a standing position this morning, knocked into the side of the wall and then then fell on the floor and knock the back of the head too.. a big "ba lu gu" on the side of his head now. So poor thing..
sad.gif

And then while getting out of the car when we reached my MIL house, my husband clumsly knock my son's head again.. Alamak.. 3 knocks in a morning...
sad.gif
: (

He is crying so badly. Haiz.. No mood to work today..

Sorry abt coming in to "explode" just like tat...

Blurgal ...

Ouch .... sayang sayang your boy ok *hugzzz*

Just observe him and make sure no fever and other signs then he should be fine. They are more roburst than we think ...

SH just rolled of the bed in the middle of the night yesterday ... it was my fault lar .. i just place the pillow next to him thinking that it was enough to 'block' him and suddenly zzzz half way I heard a POP and then WAAAAAHHHHH and SH was on the floor ....

My mum asked me why he had a cut on his lips ... dun dare to tell her tat he rolled off ... so say maybe he got cut by toys =p

blurgal,
aiyo. poor thing. can feel your heartpain. gracie has been knocking her head quite a bit too. cant be helped i guess. they are in this exploratory stage right now. the worst was when gracie fell head first from the couch. aiiiiii major heart pain. *sayang blurgal's bb*

he will be ok. one thing i learnt is that bbs are alot tougher than we thought. just monitor him for 24 hrs if you think the knocks are really bad - grogginess, inability to focus, loss of appetite, throwing up?

seabreeze,
oh thanks! never been to penang leh. hmm interesting. how far a drive is penang? btw so are you guys meeting for lunch at vivo next week? how about mon or wed?

Thanks Seabreeze,
Oh dear.. Hope ur SH is ok too..Hugzzz..
My boy dropped off our bed 1 mth ago too. Tat time my fault too. i use the pillows too, thinking it's enough.
Now no way..Even for afternoon nap. I will let him sleep in his cot for safety reasons..
happy.gif

hey mummies,
thanks for the advice re avocado, shall try it out during the weekend.

alfafa,
wah, u certainly have come up with a long list of things that mummies can do for baby boys... i think the applique on romper idea is worth exploring

donroxx,
thanks for the kind offer.. will add u later on
happy.gif

happy.gif

ok had my bf n gng back to slepp, chat later!

alfafa, can try clubmed, seems like they're really baby friendly! lenny enjoyed her stay!

about the chip, i think it's a good idea, hubby and i tohught of it too, but what if the prices rise a lot over the yrs till we cannot afford? hahahaha

Ivy:
Hey sorry I didnt see you as that day we were crossing the trafflic light!
Ya so far Caroline is adjusting well, the only thing I am worried is the food that they give cos I hv nt intro egg and some 'liang ' vegetables. so she cant eat those with porridge

blurgal ...

Then i must feel so bad ... so its SH 2nd time rolling off the bed =p but i realise that he zzz so much better when we co-sleep and he sort of can zzz thr the night. If I put him in the cot, its like waking up 3-4 times every night. Guess I am going down the same route tat I took with my #1 ... co-sleep til 3yr old *sigh*

Alfafa ...

I havent been to Penang too and thining of going in April next yr - when my mum is on 1 week holiday *AGAIN*

The hard rock is new so I guess its a good time to go now when all the furniture are still in tip top condition ... they said that its a miniature of the hard rock bali and at a fraction of the price

Re: Lunch @ Vivo

How abt we set it on 21 Dec (Mon)?? Who can make it??

Jtho.. wow did not know they so much at IFC. may i ask which IFC did you choose?

Fireangel.. oh my, hope your boy get well soon.

Alfafa.. great ideas especially the name plushies! oh more money is going to spotlight haha. hand embroidery, is it wat we see on TV, where some poor gal sits whole day stitching on a huge piece of cloth? alamak, that is way above me.

Dear mummies
we are selected for the Most Lookalike Family Contest by Mother & Baby. Semi final is this sat, 1pm at City Square. Come and support us. Thanks!

hey, there's one thing i taught my bb- BIRD BIRD
I got this wall sticker with few birds on it. Whenever i say Bird bird leh, she will look at that wall for birds. I am so happy that she is progressing.. So happy here to share.. hehe

lenny, i have the same worries as you. My bb also dun like solid food esp porridge. everytime i feed her is a nightmare, i need to sing n entertain her to open her mouth. my husband dun even dare to feed her ha ha. i try all type of foods on her like french toast, stream eggs and scramble eggs but all she dun like. i even cook stock for her porridge but she still dun wan to eat porridge. i think i can only be relieve that at least she still take her fruits puree n cereal(sometimes only).... hai... i really can understand ur worries...

lenny
have u tried eating together with Bree?

There was once..(it lasted about 2 weeks), andrea only wants to eat when im eating..so i decided to put her food in my plate and i ate her food too..so i pretend to eat a bit here and there.

Take care and stay strong. hope it helps.

Re finger food,
Mummies, how do u stop your BB from throwing the finger food on the floor? Gave him a teething biscuit once and he kept throwing on the floor, though he did eat it. Tiring to keep picking it up after him and washing it

Re feeding semi-solid,
My boy likes to eat semi-solid, but attention span is short, once he is 1/2 full, he needs to be entertained to finsh rest of food, e.g. singing letting him play all sorts of things like plastic wares, paper, even annual reports for him to flip and turn, haha
