(2009/03) March 2009 MTBs

I had wrist pain too when I had my first kid 4 years ago. At first I thought it was a sprain and massaged it with ointment, only to find that it did not improve but worsened the pain. It was so bad that I worried that I could not hold a marker properly to write on the board! (was teaching then) Never rub the injured tendons as they are soft and swollen, doing so will make it worse. I went to consult a sinseh who administered acupuncture and 'electrocute" my wrist with tiny currents. He did also applied some brown concoction on my wrist. I recovered after 2 to 3 sessions. The most important thing is to rest the wrist and not to strain it. I am very conscious this time round for my second kid and so far do not have wrist problem.

starflower,
well said, well said indeed

btw I like your idea of a mommys cafe. when are you setting up one? Hey pleasure to meet your hubby today. Was commenting to my hubby that the two of you make a very handsome couple. V touched by his offer to buy us MacD's. So nice of him.

This fri cn be our sharing session on pikkolos. Am still getting the hang of it. Walked around with her strapped on for about 2 hours. The shoulders are fine thanks to the foam straps but I can feel her weight on my back. Then again, I tink I sprained my back recently because it has been hurting for a few nights liao. ;p Uncushioned belt is good for me, have not yet tried the cushioned attachment. BB fell alseep very fast in it, nurses quite easily too. Overall first impression? very happy

alfafa,
Priorities do change indeed with the arrival of the little one.
happy.gif

And can you imagine the scary thought that this extensive research for baby carriers will evolve slowly into the how-tos of weaning and semi-solid diets...to the best playschool...to which primary school and before you know it, you are a parent volunteer! eeps!!

Mother's Day
Am not waking up to it but instead stepping into it carrying my girl. She has been awake since 4pm and this duracell bunny is still going on and on. carrying her now. Hubby and myself were going crazy earlier when both kids were being difficult at the same time, followed by alternately.

Happy Mother's Day to all you lovely ladies

De quervain syndrome ( oh thought was tendotitis allvalong oppsie). Not to be a pooper to all planning for the jab ( but I can be wrong too... ) I had these nab on the wrist once when I was working... Truely it healed almost instantly.. The steroid lasted good 2 over years.. My last trimester the pain came back in excruciating.... Quite weak kinda.. Gynae told me due to the hormones our expansion of the join do it hurts but will EVENTUALLY goes off.... Like 6 mths ( mine did subsided alittle though)..... Anyway during preg was advised not to take jabs Bcos of baby..... Then after birth... Breast feeding.. So refused injection on me by doc when I saw one at raffles medical in
bugis...so maybe those mummies check with the respective doc if can jab while breastfeeding:.. Inform me too .... Hahaha... Yah now my fingers dun even have the strength to open the scissors ...
sad.gif

Sleeping hours....and milk
Ugin slept 9hrs and was sleeping when I dig him up for his feed... Although it'll be nice for ms to zzz through but I think he needs to drink......does any mummies wake baby up
to feed??? How much milk do you give??? More or as usual if baby overslept?????

Alfafa
Glad to hear that grace is back to her the smilie gracie..

daphne, if he is asleep n din wakes up for milk, i will let him sleep thru. Cos it's one wy to let him learn how to sleep thru the nite without feeding, my point of view is, if he is hungry, he will wakes up for milk.

Nursing bras, anyone tried the tube bras from moms in mind? I'm looking for a bra tat doesn't have underwire, have detechable stripes.. Any sugggestions which brand has? Currently using nursing bras from spring maternity.

Anyone tried the oto powertap? Today we walked pass n stop to try... Quite tempted to get one.... But cost $198, was thinking this money can use to buy a lot of stuff for bb.

Diaper bags, which brands are u all using? Me eyeing at allerhand... Anyone using this brand? How is it?

TIA
happy.gif

queenie:

If u bf bb while u are ill, bb will receive your antibodies, which will in fact help his immune system
happy.gif
GP will advise u which med is safe for bfing, but paracetamol and ibuprofen are pretty safe. Hubby and I down with flu/cough/sore throat but bb never got it -- that is until now, 1 week after we both had the worst symptoms.

A. Fireangel (areya)

thanks. good that i can visit a GP. will head dwn soon in e morning. wan to recover fast. coz nw many people scare of 'flu'.. and i wan to go to the upcoming gathering. so think will recover soon with medications.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Think it should be quite a meaningful day for first time mummy. For me, it just another day passby. We don't really celebrate all this occassion.

Alfafa
Thanks for your feedback. Ya, sassybaby offer is quite tempting, but i still cannot as want to get a balboa sling or beco from sassybaby. IMost probably i will use it at most of the time. Anver want people to carry him to sleep, so am thinking to use balboa/beco to carry and let him sleep before letting him down. His weight is already 6.5kg and i felt my hand quite painful if carry him for too long. Got any suggestion?

Queenie
Morning....thought no one log in. Yup, her offer very tempting. Will be trying out during the gathering first to see if Anver like it or not.

kome
haha, i woke to toilet and wanna ask qns on seeing GP lor. im going back to slp soon haha.storming so nice to slp in rite.. u leh? mai koon Ah?

Queenie
Anver had not been sleeping too well and cried in bedroom disturbing his daddy and korkor. I had bring out to living room and let him sleep on sofa and he sleep quit well. Maybe is because the bedroom is quite hot. I will wait for hubby to wake up and take over me than i go sleep awhile.

kome
aiyoh poor anver.. hehe faster ask ur hb wake up! if not with the storm coming in, he might have more diffculty to wake up? kekes..

2437753.jpg

c this connecta oso like so nice hor the imprint?

morning Queenie & Kome, this looks like the Beco in Carnival design. Wonder if its comfy for baby....hm...i might queue after Kome for Sassy's Beco express :p

Queenie
Hubby will not wake up so early one lar. I will thank god if he can wake up at 8am already. Haha.....you also tempted right?

Morning starflower
You wake up so early too? Actually was wondering, is connecta and beco works the same? They look so alike but how come connecta sell so cheap?

Good morning Kome, guess diff companies want to pitch their products differently. I haven't tried the Connecta before but i think most important to me is that a carrier must be "very easy" to put baby and take baby out. I'd love to try out a Connecta too if anybody has one. Will try out Daphne's/Pumpkinseed/Sassy's Beco at the gathering
happy.gif

Ida,
No worries lah
happy.gif

Queenie,
Continue to breastfeed. It is beneficial as you will be passing vital antibodies to Tristan. But do wear a mask when feeding him to prevent water droplets from your breath from landing on him. That is the direct way to pass your germs to him. There are medicines that are safe for breastfeeding, just have to let your doctor know you are bf.

Kome,
For the Balboa, unless your baby is in deep sleep and is the type that cannot be stirred once asleep, it is easy to wake the baby up when you take baby out of it. This is due to the deep pocket. If your main reason for the carrier is just to put baby to sleep, the MIM sling is good enough... and the entire sling can be loosen at the ring and released to put baby down on the bed (with the sling) without disturbing the baby. You just remove the sling from yourself by bending forward, put the baby on the bed and slip the sling over your head to remove. I have done this many times with my boy last time.

Painful wrists
Like what Daphne mentioned, it is due to pregnancy hormones loosening the wrists joints and this should go off with time. After I gave birth to #1, the pain in my wrists was so bad that I could not even hold a pen to write when I returned to work 10 weeks after giving birth. I could not type properly on the keyboard either. If I am not wrong, the pain resulted from the angle which I press my breasts when I expressed milk and of course from carrying baby also. I went to a physiotherapist for massage 2 times a week but the relieve didn't last.

Medical treatment will include the steriod jabs which I didn't dare to take because of breastfeeding, and application of Voltaren Gel. Votaren is a painkiller and anti-inflammatory in the same class as Ponstan, Synflex for those of you who are familiar. I applied a thin layer of the gel to my wrists and it did help somewhat. The pain did go away after many months. In my case after more than 6 months. For this second pregnancy, the pain is not that bad but at certain angles, my nerves at the wrists are being pressed on and I get the "electric shock" or numbness in my fingers.

Sleeping through
When can my baby achieve that?
sad.gif
I managed to put her to sleep only at about 2am, and she woke up for milk at 3.45am and kept waking up when I put her onto the bed. So, the put down-wake up-gotta put her to sleep-put down-wake up-put do sleep routine lasted until 4.50am. Am up now to pump.
sad.gif

cindy,
wow, our kiddos ages r very close! My elder gal rebecca was born 4 nov and mei mei rae born on 19 Feb.
happy.gif

I'll go bk to teaching on part time on 13july. u didn take the full 16 weeks leave? or u took advance Maternity leave? Rebecca is v clingy, she must have me to pat pat her to bed, i must sing songs to her when i play those kiddy DVDs...
quite irony coz on one hand i feel touched tt she wants me, but on the other hand sometimes i wished she'd run to papa instead :p

as for the wrist pain, it cost me about 200 plus bucks... if i dun remember wrongly. not incl all the wild goose chase to other docs... Yes, i think breastfeeding must think twice abt the jab.

Sassybaby,
Love love your pool!! Your girl looks like she's having lotsa fun!

Alfafa,
I know what you mean, always looking out for the best deals in town wahahaha! From a career woman to a full time mummy now... the best thing to ever happen to us right!

Am really excited about next Fri's gathering... it'll be my first time out alone with Chloe and meeting most of you! Can't wait!

Okie gotta go... catching up with some friends over brunch at Dome @ Dempsey later hehehee

Mangogal, Sportyger, Prosper & Koala

They have personally delievered the neck float to my place but I was out so collected by my mum - later to realise that short of 1 purple float =p

Have emailed themto ask them to send that 1 purple float over and hopefully can rec by coming Wed

Kris, thanks...

Asura, I tried it.. after that feel quite comfy.. shoulder not so tense up... really can consider...

Queenie, can still breastfeed, no worries,,,

Pups
Previously i have the MIM sling. Do agree that it is easy to put baby down without disturbing him, but i hope to try out other type and hopefully can last longer. My MIM sling only last my elder son for less than 8 months and he will try to straighten his leg to get down. MIM sling made my shoulder very pain as time goes by as my son grow older. Mmm.....not sure if Balboa will be able to distribute out Anver's weight or not.

Oh no.....Anver had been cranky since 5am till now and he want people to carry him. My hand so suan already. How i wish that i have a sling now. Oh no he is crying aain.

clio, how did you take full maternity and still go back only on 13july? cause my school say MUST TAKE 16wks in a Stretch, cannot break up wo. If can break up, definitely can go into july. So I think yours can break up? CAuse i scheduled for csection on 26feb, and i don't wanna eat into the june hols, So i took ML before 26feb and 16wks just nice ended on 31May then June hols. And i will start new school in term 3. I asked the new school if i can break up the ML but they told me it's up to my CURRENT school's policy, if my current school allow me to break up the ML *pause for june hols* then they are fine.

WOW, sassy, ahha the POOL looks sooooo COOL! i only have a small one man hahaha for the monster.

queenie:: hope you're feeling better? COntinue to BF! it's okay de!

kome:: yea boys slower de. sassy ahha i dodn't record down all of Travis's achievements but one thing i know for sure is he only WALKED when he turned 15mths!! gahh! hehe.

Okay gtg bath the monster!

HAPPY HAPPY MOTHERS day!

daphne:: realised you wanna go JP? Let me know when you gg, if possible, i will join you.

irene,

i am using the allerhand diaper bags. i got the backpack style. i like it cos of the many compartments n unisex so hubby can also carry and not look girlish. keke

mummies,

I just managed to read the previous posts about baby carriers.. seems like a lot of mummies are avoiding babybjorn and something about the support at the crotch. can i know the cons about it? cos i also considering another diff carrier.

thanks

kome
paiseh i went back to slp. kekes. ya am tempted oso. haha
so hb tk over ur shift ? ya i wanted a carrier mainly to distribute his weight coz MIM sling use long (3hrs n above) will make my shoudler aches. unless after his #1 feed i change the sling to another to side. haha. but tink again, a carrier might be better afterall. LOL

starflower
morning!
happy.gif

pups
thank for ur advise. will go get a mask later. ytd was seriously having running nose den i poke 2 tissues into my nose. haha. so ugly.

irene
thank u
happy.gif
keke btw i using agnes b dumpling bag.

cindy
yes Mdm ! haha

kome,
u might want to try tummydown after the last feed?
i try on my boy for 3 nites, it works, last feed at 11.30pm, i put him down face up about 12.30. Then when i need to pump at 3+, i turn him to tummy down, he can slp straight till 5-6am.

just now, i put him tummy down at 7am, now he is still slping.

of cos his 1st feed is 6oz la.

u might wan to try for his afternoon nap, this is what i did initally. and find that he can slp like 4-5hrs!

but i am not sure, such long hrs of slping gd or not. :p

Happy Mummies Day to all greatest , most beautiful and sexiest mummies at this thread !
happy.gif

sung. Iddarshad and tuskywoollie:
Thanks all for the encouragement...really appreciate it...though I am still feeling the pain of leaving my boy at my in laws place...I still believe I need to put his best interest before myself. Hence, enduring the pain and hope I will begin to get use to it soon after I return to work.

Anyway I think We mummies in this thread are so lucky to be in time to celebrate our first mothers day today with our little darlings...hee... Enjoy !

hugs to Mummybean!

Lenny, me also using bjorn Haha. Never tried other carriers other than beco, find that I still prefer bjorn. I guess different ppl differ in needs ba! I really like my bjorn cause of back support and can face in and out. And needless to say, very easy to use too. Haha.

*pumping now* wow, weather is cloudy outside here at keppel. Keenan was squirming like crazy around 8.30am so since it's his feeding time, i just pulled him to my side, roll him over to bf. then 9.30am he squirmed again, i did the same thing but it didn't work. He kep squirming. By 10am, everybody was up & Djin just said, think need to change diapers. *revelation*...sleephead me, can't be helped if brain not working...

Thanks Alfafa for the compliment, i showed Djin what u wrote about the MacDs & handsome couple part *blush blush*
happy.gif
U're very matching w ur hubby too, he's such a warm & friendly type too, just like u, superb gracious host
happy.gif

Pups, thanks for sharing ur experience on the wrist pain problem. Now i'm at least prepared this pain may stay longer than i expect. Now i really need to protect my one good hand left - my right hand. Now that u mention, i also think it could be the way i massage my breast before pumping to cause this pain. Now i'm not massaging at all, just letting the pump do the work and adjusting it to a higher dial(4/5). Think i'll chicken out from the jab too if it affects bf, but will definintely ask for the gel...surely i must do something to help my wrist heal...
