Shazz: thanks for updating the table! It'd be good to use Google Docs, i.e. online Excel spreadsheet or Google Calendar, so that any Sept mom can be given the password to log on to self-service/key in their own info. The new info is instantly updated online and everyone can see it.

Maternity Leave: I suppose it's significant to those who are i) employed full-time; ii) high income bracket (can pocket tens of thousands resting at home!). Like alabone, I dun mind having a couple of thousands more

Acyway, I dun like the idea of hving longer ML cos many employers' are gonna be afraid of hiring moms in high positions (which equals to more responsibilities and more $$!). They will prefer to hire a younger/cheaper/single/unmarried woman for sure. No need to pay for all the ML, CCL, IFCL etc.

Already I have female colleagues who are single/hv no kids that keep complaining abt moms taking ML, CCL, etc.at their expense...And of course, some 'ngeow' male bosses who either are single themselves or whose wives are SAHMs who dun get to benefit from the incentives. They are the ones who show a lot of contempt towards FTWMs. Low productivity, high MC rate, 4 mths ML, frequent CCL and Child MC...

Congrats to ur fren too who has given birth!! I was wondering if all the walking and standing during my work helps (teachers don’t get to sit that often!) in a smoother delivery. I also asking for induction, dunno how painful it can be..

Don’t be too worried and upset, I am sure your gyane will help you along the way to ensure your girl’s well-being.. The more you are worried; your health will also be affected. Are you still working?? Could it be work stress?? My frens were the ones who told me to put my gal’s well-being as top priority, that’s why I took leave liao. You should try to relax yourself, yah?? If you can’t eat too much, take smaller meals along the way. Find the types of food that suits you more, maybe ur appetite will improve along the way. We will all be praying for you and ur gal’s health! 

The 3rd month is more of an extended month. I am not sure how the private sector works, but as in the teaching profession, we can break the maternity leave, to be taken within 6 months of the baby’s birth.

Ouch.. at least we are mentally prepared for the JAN09 or Oct08 effective date of implementation before DPM WONG speech @ 1pm later.
Bt it is such an *oUch-Ouch* loh.
We just have to psycho ourselves that at least our bosses do not ‘discriminate’ us for being entitled 4 mths maternity leave lo…

INDUCED BIRTH
Yesterday went to see gynea. He said my bb face facing upwards.. not good.. bt most likely may turn again lo. Otherwise nid to c-section! Ouch!
Oso, he said if I did not maintain my weight in my next visit, he will induce labour?!! Got liddat one huh? :S
Induced labour is quite common issit huh???

You can take the 12 weeks in a block. That is what I am gg to do. I guess the first few months are crucial for mommies to be home with their bb and to get the hang of caring for the bb

Was feeling bb for the whole night! Sometimes can feel his head is up & sometimes down towards the left! Wake up at two hours interval! Couldn't sleep after 8am.. zzzzz

Updating table: It's actually pretty easy! Should I not be around as often to update the table, any mummy please feel free to copy the table, paste on Excel, then update from Excel.

To insert the table in the thread, simply type in: \ table { }

And then copy and paste the table details in between the { }

Viola!

Hi mummies, thanks for replying to my queries.

I actually saw this just now, http://fcd.ecitizen.gov.sg/GovernmentPaidMaternityLeave

Just to highlight something that catch my attention:
"For Employed Mothers-
If there is mutual agreement between the mother and her employer, the additional 4 weeks of maternity leave may be taken flexibly over a period of 6 months from the birth of the child. Otherwise, the additional 4 weeks of leave must be taken as a block immediately after the first 8 weeks."

When i look at this, it seems like we have to take 12 weeks of ML in a row lor. Unless I got some reading problems??

Maternity leave

Yes, I do believe that you will need to let your leaders / boss know that you are breaking up the 3rd month of maternity. For me, what I'm doing is that I'll clear 2 months block (8 weeks), and then I'll clear my own annual leave (cos I still have 10 days of AL to clear before year end), then I'll continue with the 3rd month of maternity. Therefore, in reality, I'm breaking up the maternity leave so as to enable me to clear my AL if not AL will be forfeited...

You don't have to worry that much. According to my gynae, he says that babies grow at different rate, so your boy may grow faster at the last 3-4 weeks. My gal only grew 200g in 2 weeks before the last checkup, so most prob ur boy will put on more weight in the coming weeks! Most importantly, eat well and sleep well!

We have the same gynae. I went for my checkup last thurs @ ard 35w4days my baby weight 2.8kg too. Gynae also ask me not to take milk and durian. He say that she is too heavy.

Going for my checkup tomorrow again.

How about the Baby Bonus? When is the increase for first time mummies kicking in?? Hmm..feel so cheated, those who are giving birth soon are all losing out..we seemed the "forgotten" group of mummies. Those giving birth from 1 Jan onwards will benefit..nothing is ever fair! Sob...

BlackberryB, my bb also ard 1.642kg at 32 weeks, then 2.2+kg at 34 weeks. i think its normal ba.

Same as you, i dun wish for big baby, but also worry baby is too small. since is a girl for me, i guess small is ok, just dun underweight can le. ^^

Ade, have you ask Dr Adrian to book for you room at TMC??? i told him on week 32 checkup but till now 3 weeks have pass but no news yet leh...

Actually I tink the most impt is that the baby don't grow too big, if not we might have to forgo natural birth. Every time i go to gynae, my first question is not really the weight, but the size of her head hee..scared that I can't go thru natural if head too big.

Jasmine, why is the doctor asking you not to take milk?? Tot u need to drink a lot of milk so that u have enuff for BF? I heard of gynaes asking mummies not to take too much durians, but i tot milk is definitely good. At least u are better off than me, I cannot take milk at all until a few weeks ago, cos I've been throwing up milk since 1st trimester. Now, I cannot take more than 1 cup a day, if not i will throw up the milk again.

Blackberry: Yup. I've lost my voice completely.. For BF, invest in a good pump. This way, even after returning to work, you can continue expressing during office hours and latch baby on when you're home..

Mickey, my manager asked me if effective at Aug or Sept, the extra 4 weeks I can take 2 weeks first and spread another 2 weeks after chinese new year...but now...all hope blow away lor..aiyah, the baby bonus also not entitle too ..

Sigh.. so sad if the ML is really effective on Jan 09.... would be really good to build up baby's immune system for an extra of 1 month before I send him to the infant care. Poor baby...

Koras, if I not wrong within 1 month ba! my gynae's clinic staff submit for me leh, maybe check with the nurses? I receive the confirmation letter and filled in the details then send back to them.

Rachel, yes, you are right..another 4 weeks baby can grow up very different..we still entitle to get 2 days child care leave for year 2008,right?

hi ladies,
am going to see the gynae now... had bleeding and pain at the lower right side and blood pressure is 163/108... suspected placenta abruption though i feel quite fine.

thanks for updating. didn't see the original date was the EDD one. my edd is actually 5 oct.

4 mths ML:
i agree with flos. very useful to have the extra cash and can stay home with bb. coz can breastfeed longer also. since it's not ours then no choice lor. i'll just have to take no pay earlier.

you're a teacher too? so am i... think i'll go back to work in nov and dec, then take the third mth ML in jan, then take no pay leave until term 2 starts...

read from straitstimes online that paternity leave not increased because PM spoke to a lot of women and they feel they would prefer the ML to be given to them instead of to their spouses!!! I wish i had the chance to speak to him... anyway, it's also for economic reasons... they don't want to have to pay the men and let them take leave for so long. paternity leave where got long? a couple more days only mah...
