grumpus
haha.. my boy loves to go out.. but hate to change when we tell him need to change first b4 going out.. terrible boy. hahaha... i duno to laugh at him or be angry at times...

steph,
Wah so good for you (or rather your hub) that Z has gone passed this phase already.

Once HR is at home and started with his Thomas or puzzles, he refuses to go out until at least an hour later. Once he is out, don't want to come home. Same when go to the cc. Fake crying when we send him to cc, don't want to let us go. Afternoon when fetching him, don't want to leave the cc. Duh! Think he tries to tell us HE IS THE BOSS!

grumpus,
Oh, is it so? Then we all can officially announce that our tods are now at the TERRIBLE TWOS stage! Wonder what would happen at the birthday bash, with 25 "terrible" kids :) Hope there will be no fighting/beating/biting of each other :p

steph
haiyoh, very jialat, hopefully it will end soon ley. today in mrt, kept crying, whining, and hitting me. i just stare ahead. let him cry n cool down...
i just hope he can speak more. at least can tell me a bit more what he wants. luckily this weekend alone i oredi spotted 3 new words. last time is 1 new word per week.

sighs
now my boy run into my niece room and started watching tv liao...
everytime he run inside, i will bring him out. can repeat 10x kind. he will shout and cry......

i really hate JE environment...i starting to pek chek liao hahahah

Jess, yea! Let’s go EastCoast, unless the weather is not good.

Terrible 2: not sure whether my son’s stage is over, becuz he seems to be obedient after he was back from KL. He doesn’t cry much cuz once he crys or gets frustrated I will ask him string of questions, then he will either shake or nod his head. No more tantrum. Not sure whether it’s becus he understands everything we say now and can express himself better already by gesture?

I brought him for booster jab on Saturday. He weighs 12.4kg and 86.7 cm now. Also, we told the nurse we don’t want the chicken pox jab, but she said I alreadypaid for it cuz it’s in the package, must take. Got such thing one meh?!!

pixie,
if watching tv is bad enuff, what do u think about pushing one another? Sigh...my niece (4yo) also jialat...my own sis got no control over her at times. My niece also loves screaming. Some Sat, we'll be at my mum's plc & that's what hb HATED most...we always bicker because of my niece behaviour & abt my sis not disciplining properly. Last Sat, my niece pushed Z down on the floor while trying to block his way & prevent him from taking her toys...my niece don't like to share her toys...will snatch away which is really a terrible behaviour but what can I do...my sis don't even teach/explain to her daughter (my niece) in hand...just let her be sometimes...i also buay tahan. Z always learnt bad habits after returning from my mum's plc & hb said Z learnt to snatch didi's toy & might even push him in future since he saw how my niece push him until he fell on the floor! How leh...i oso dunno...

tongtong
okiez!

East coast is confirmed so long as weather is gd.. anyone else wana join?
I can prepare sandwiches or beehoon
happy.gif

tongtong, jess,
east coast where?park? when? i am keen but too far for me. This Sat, i am going Changi(NSRCC) for my frd's bb 1st birthday.

steph
same lor. how? if x takes a toy, my niece will snatch. if my niece takes a toy, x will snatch. all fight over the same toy everytime even though there are so many toys lying around. and my sil...i really have to kowtow. she is the laziest person i ever see. now my niece is screaming the house down. i feel like screaming at her oso but i cant...
i tell my hb he oso cant do much. he only say he can try to tok to his bro, but since he is equally bo chup with his wife/daughter, we oso helpless. but their family is affecting how my son grow up.

honestly? i wonder issit because of the way my niece speaks (no proper sentences until now) thats why my son is slow in speech. no one to spur him on to speak wat.
just having evil thoughts lah.

eg just now, x playing with bicycle. my niece wants too and went into their room and ask her mom. her mom just lashed out at her "what bicycle lah! dont take lah!"

eg, after lunch, my sil wants my niece to go pee. she stand at a distance, ask her niece to go pee. my niece ignore her. then my sil keep shouting for her daughter. and my niece just ignore and follow her mom shouting. if your child doesnt listen to you, then you go to her lah. shout n shout she still wont listen to you wat

what kind of family dynamics is this? i dont feel happy letting my child thrive in such an environment.

hence, tongtong yes still cant persuade my hb to let him go cc yet

Pixie, I asked the doc abt my son’s speech development, she said it’s normal wor although I told her that he is not talking yet. I think we just monitor till they are 2.5 yo. Does your hubby know about all the negatives for having ur boy to be at home.

i think beach is a gd idea ba. can play with sand. i think near the Mac should be a good choice cos near toilet ba.. theres another area which is near the toilet.. but i duno which carpark is that... any other suggestions?

tongtong
he knows but he thinks cc is even more negative than what is going on at mil home.
my mil takes care of my son physically very well but she cant mentally takes care of him well. my neighbour said the same last weekend for their daughter who just turned 2. but unfortunately, my hb wasnt around to hear that.

btw, my niece is 3 in april. means now she oredi 3.5yo but still cant form sentences. that one power and their parents refuse to acknowledge the fact even though we told them before. let them be lor

Jess. my daughter is a clean freak! she hates the sand! we brought her to east coast twice and hoping she would hav fun builing sandcastles n rest... but she juz refuse to step into the sand... cling on to me or my hubby tight like a kola bear... she kept telling us it is very dirty, and her shoes also dirty, sighs

i normally go ard 8plus to 9am like tat.. then leave ard 11am.. haha
happy.gif
if nt then late afternn after 5pm...

aqua
my boy initially also dun want to step into the sand. we slowly bring him down... so nw he is quite alrite.. at times he will still keep cleaning his feet.. showing me tat got alot of sand and he dun like.. haha... but we just show him tat our feet are the same too then he will be fine
happy.gif

Pixie, I don’t think cc is negative because they have teachers and program and runs like school leh. Pysically well meaning cooks good food for him?

Aqua, your gal is so cute leh.. my son likes playing with sand becus ther’s also a sand area opposite myhouse. I have bought some toy equipment for him to scoop the sands too:p

jess, morning is good. late afternoon might be too late. cuz i want him to zz early

tongtong
means she takes care of him well physically i.e. eat, sleep, drink, dress etc
but mentally - i.e. learning, speech, songs etc. she never do. im the one who show him flashcards, storybooks etc.
so i think 24/7 in that kind of environment, my boy very bored and no stimulation.

tongtong
i am fine with anytime.

Kam
how about u? which timing do u prefer?

anyone else wana go? the more the merrier lei.
aqua, pixie, wana go???

wah i just heard my sil told her daughter "if you dont shut up i will cut ur mouth" coz she cutting food for her daughter and her daughter is whining for dinner to be ready.

faint

think early morning is good. Cos late afternoon very crowded. i have to confirm which day my friends will need my accompany first then let you know. meet at McD will be good, I think. If early morning anywhere also no problem, cos not many early birds :)

pixie, kam,
i also had trouble settling my boy to sleep. these 3 things will happen, he wants milk again, he wants to change his clothes coz its wet due to the water bottle which he purposely opens to wet his shirt and he wants me to apply zambak on his body coz itchy. last night i put him to bed early at 9+, before his usual bed time at 10pm thinking he will sleep early since he didnt sleep much in the day. but in the end, he still slept at 10.50pm. i really give up, these days his "bad habits" is driving me on my nerves.

erm, did i spell it correctly? its for bruises/ blue black but my son insist dat i must put that else he will whine or fake cry.

luca
haha. Javier always ask me to apply medicated oil for him cos his leg itchy when gana mosquito bite...

did the 'terrible two' article mention when will the 'terrible two' stage be over? haha...

Jess,
i think different kid varies. "terrible two" is just a good "excuse" for d kids to throw tanthrums hee :p

kitsune,
Where did u get the water matress from? It is a mattress pad or really a full mattress. My boy fever back after 2 days, and doc change the antibiotics for him - Augmentin! Seemed like very diarrhea in 3 days time.

He cough and cough with phlegm today, finally vomit out with milk and all. sigh. He already sick for 1 week, hb also work from home for 4th day already.

I couldn't sleep last night too, cos he keep coughing, so worried that he become breathless.

Gathering
Enjoy yourself. I think I have to hide at home with Xavier for 1 week or so.

I am not sure if my girl is going thru the terrible two stage? Coz she does cry rather easily when she does not get what she wants. But when we explained nicely to her, she will listen. But my MIL has been complaining that she is crying more often @ her place recently. She said my girl knew I am at home and kept crying for me.

Quoted from What to Expect - The Toddler Years
"For-Parents-Only Temper Tantrums"
A toddler tends to save up his worst terrible-two's behaviour for his parents because his struggle for independence is with them and not with the baby-sitter, teacher or day-care provider. It's from those he feels closest to and most dependent on that he feels the need to separate. It's with his parents that he has to stake out his territory, take a stand and assert autonomy.

Tantrums also tend to occur more frequently when they are tired, hungry or stressed.

For me, I noticed B usually throws tantrums when he is tired. If he missed his nap or didn't nap enough, a tantrum might occur (it's usually in the evenings) and he'll be a little dis-orientated. Even If I were to ask him what he wants, he doesn't know becos he's just crying to let out the stress. As patience is not one of my virtues, I will ask him if he wants to sleep (usually he will nod his head), otherwise I'll tell him firmly to stop this nonsense and calm down. Sometimes I will also send him to his naughty corner to continue his crying and tell him to come to me when he's ready and has stopped crying. I always tell him that throwing tantrums will not get him what he wants and mummy (me lah) will not give in to his crying. As usual, I'm always so strict but I don't want to set any precedent cos he'll only try to stretch my limits a little more the next time.

Kam, Pixie, RaeAnne also like that these days. Just now, she just kept crying and kicking, don't want to lie on the bed with me, don't want Daddy to carry and pat her to sleep even. End up bo bian, I let her sleep on my arm while I hug her bottom and talk to her about 'rubbish' (non intelligent conversation) just to soothe and distract her. She finally knocked out after that. Maybe overstimulated and tired bah cos we brought her to see PD tonight then got to feed med, rest a bit then feed milk, rest a bit then can let her sleep cos we are worried she'll puke out the milk again.

Icy, I just brought RaeAnne to PD again today. Dr gave some additional new med cos she said RaeAnne is a bit wheezy. :p The water mattress pad? I bought from Penang leh but it's quite useful. Cooling, even hubby likes to lie on it. It's slightly shorter than a cot bed. You can see the photo here http://anewpiggy.blogspot.com/2009/10/raeanne-is-21-months-today.html. It's the pink Hello Kitty water mattress pad on top.

Aqua, RaeAnne also insist that we apply calendula cream on her neck every night. Sometimes up to 4 times a night, maybe she likes the smell? My girl also doesn't like sand. She hates to touch it. Sigh, our kids are quite alike hor. :p

Verene, thanks, looks like Garmin is a popular brand. What model are you using? Roughly how much is it?

Yvonne & Kam I agree that Terrible Two starts only when their needs can not be met. This often happen as they cant tell us what they want yet (most of the time), therefore they tend to throw out their "demand" by crying. As often as parents see their kids crying, they will attend and also give kids wrong signal for them that crying is working thats why I can crying and hen I will have what I need/want.

For me, I will control my girl by keeping her schedule (except on weekend) and predict when she wants to sleep. Like Yvoon said, most of the time they throw tantrum because they are tired. And just remember this, babies from 0-3 years old need alot of sleep for their brain development. ;-)

Kitsune,

my hubby got it from US and asked his supplier to bring it back to him when he came back to Singapore. It is much cheaper to to buy it in US. I suppose the same model will cost $100 more expensive here. He bought nüvi® 760. price: USD 200.
here selling at $500+ when he buy that time. he bought a yr ago. now got many newer models liao.
he says average price for a Garmin is $300+ and above. Cheaper brands are Shinco, local made ones or China brands etc.

morning mummies

kitsune
now that verene has said shinco, yes, we've used shinco before. not as good as we think so

T2's (terrible twos)
yest x wanted to eat a dish that was on the dining table but there were quite a few dishes and he got angry (again) that he couldnt get it. so i had to keep telling him, to point out for me. and i had to fold his fingers into a pointing shape, and hold his fingers in my hands, and let him point to the dish he wanted. nowadays i have to keep doing that coz he still can vocalize himself. so need to keep on pointing.

maybe we can compile tips and tricks per each mummy and grow the list longer, and then everyone can make use of the tips to overcome the T2s

Kisune & Kam: do you think "The contented baby and a toddler" book by Gina Ford work? I am thinking of ordering some books for myself and wonder if it really helps or her method is too strict and not practical enough? Can share with me here??

Also I have flipped few pages of the potty training book by her, and don't know if any mummy here follow her method?

I came across this book "No cry Potty training" by Elizabeth Pantley, it is also a very popular book selling in AU, but haven't got time to see flip through it when I was at bookshop. http://www.boomerangbooks.com.au/No-Cry-Potty-Training-Solution/Elizabeth-Pantley/book_9780077115517.htm. Any comment?

blessedbaby,
Forgot to reply you yesterday. The new game that we bought it's a memory game. I will post video on FB later when I record some.

I only flipped through one of her books once (the one on how to sleep train baby). I don't really want to "train" my kids, so I don't think her (or any other authors) method would work for me. But no harm reading it if you have the time to do so.

Yvonne,
I think it's true that the terrible twos only targeting parents (or whom he feels the closest). Cos I asked his teachers, and they all say he is a darling at school :p
