Mich,
oh yes, my PD also recommended to start introducing solid food now, but I prefer to start him later when he's 6mth old. Most sites or books that I check out from, all also recommend to start at 6 month old.

powerpuffs,
I think your boy is most likely experiencing symptoms of teething. Xavier also quite a screamer these days, and will fuss alot for no rhyme or reason. Went for check up last fri, PD says his gums is quite sore and it's one of the sign of teething. I was surprised to hear that, for I thought teething stage will only begin ard 6mths there about.

Badtz & Sporty,
i also tink i wan start Jovial solid food on 5mths old but now he dunwan drink milk so got to start early..Later grandma will use pork rib to cook porridge till soft soft muddy type then mash potato n carrot for him to eat..

Sweet,
Thanks

mich, ok dokie...got it

hui, start on porridge? not too early meh? thot shd be cereal first?? err...i dunno...

hui - i have no idea how to cook.. haha.. e porridge will have to cook for v long one is it? btw, i no time to read archives.. wat's this voting for jovial thing?? can paste link again? hee..

For a start, best to introduce 1 type of food for about 5days - 1week, then try another type of food. By doing so, can help to determine if the baby enjoy the food and also help to eliminate which type of food the baby is allergic to.

Besides white rice cereal or brown rice cereal, Start with orange and yellow color food like, pumpkin, sweet potato, potato, carrot. And steamed fruits like apples, pears, banana, papaya. (all mashed or puree)

HTH

are those books's bb food more into western's perspective?

powerpuffs, ask ur hb to talk to MIL if u find it diffcult to convey the msg lor...

hui, mr sporty asked me to tell u he voted already as well !

powerpuffs,
maybe you wanna try to cool the pacifier in the chiller then give it to him, that will help to soothe the sore gums. I tried that for Xavier, somehow it does helps abit

well, i didn't notice his sore gums till the PD showed me. the gums looks kinda puffy and quite red, which spells the discomfort.

caitlyn, my mil also keeps scolding me for feedinf frozen food so when serene is at her place she cooks fresh, when at home eat my frozen food lor.

pooh - who is e book written by? is it easy to read?

sporty - i think diff ppl start w diff things? hee.. i always thot is cook e porridge liao then blend it.. oppz.. ;P

Mr SPorty,
Thank u!

Pooh,
can get the book from popular?

caitlyn,
me too got the same books as you. Baby's food no need very massive cooking that will storm up the kitchen
happy.gif
mostly steam, mash, blend to puree form. think it'll be good to invest in a steamer and a slow cooker (for stewing the porridge)

sporty,
i think generally for baby food, there's no much of western or chinese cooking method. Basically is to give them natural fresh food/fruits, that has no additives and preservatives.

pinkzebra/sporty, yup basically I cook the porridge chinese style with western grains... meaning I use grains like brown rice, millet, quinoa, oats etc and cook inside slow cooker with fish, carrots etc...

pinkzebra - haha.. u noe when i see e words steam, mash, blend hor, i dunno wat equipment i need!! haha.. but steamer is quite big rite? have mini ones for bb food? he..

caitlyn,
you can get those electric steamer that comes in 2 or 3 tier kind, then u can try check it out at IKEA for the grater and masher, i think there's a small blender specially to blend baby food... saw it sometime ago.. but just can't recall what brand.

pinkzebra - i bot e pigeon food maker set.. think it has e equipmetn for grating, blending.. electric steamer.. okies.. i go source! hee

caitlyn, u very funny leh..how to blend cooked porridge??!! hahahhaha...weird leh

pinkzebra, ok noted
happy.gif

lizardess, same same...dump everything into the slow cooker...talk abt slow cooker, suddenly i recall our "sleepless" nights becuz of the chicken soup...hahhahha :p

which steamer is recommended ar & how long should we steam say brocolli and carrots? say we cut up into smaller pcs should be faster right?

hui - no!! i thot cook everything liao.. then put all into e blender to blend!! dun laff.. sekali is correct mtd!!! hahahhaha..

sweet, you gotta tip out all the cubes, put into ziplock bags, then take out 1-2 cubes each time to defrost. i use my avent bottlr warmer to warm up the cubes.

re porridge, can cook everything in big chunks first then take a handheld blender to chop it all up... my friend used to do that.

vic_ma, u can steam using a small bowl in a wok... yup cut small small will steam very fast... carrots, broccoli, usually abt 5-10min depending on size of the chunks.

caitlyn/hui
it's by novum's kitchen.. got food for 4-8mths old.. 9-12mths old then after 1 yr of age.. also got tonic supplements
uses only simple english & chinese to explain

hui

i know that introducing foods, my friend told me intro the same food for 3 days consequtively, then see got any reaction or not - so 1 can of heniz u put in fridge one day give say 1/3 then watch for any allergy reaction or not.

Then if ok then tick off & try the next food.

I been reisiting buying those canned ones as i dont see it usually as 1 item only - usually is 2 ingredients mixed in or more - so i will buy just thhat item , steam or boil then puree with a blender then try for 3 days each new food.

Ya i want to get a steamer if possible - haha if only the steraliser can do that as well!

food cubes - i think can warm the same way as forzen EBM right? thaw in fridge or in a bowl of water then use food warmer like mich said - i try not to microwave - i know my maid will be using it to warm foods for the baby - I might have to change this - i actually dont want microwaved foods for my baby.

I am one of those anti microwave kind of person but my inlaws SWEAR by it.
