astro,

Yvonne: Thanks for the concern. I've heard of hernia surgeries before and when the PD mentioned it at one examination, I was very alarmed.

There are different types of hernia. The type your friend's baby has is the more common type we heard of, which is the type that needs a surgery. The type Anna has is called umbilical hernia. Umbilical hernias usually resolved themselves without any external help. Hers led to a slightly bulging belly button, which the PD said was due to wind in her tummy. So he gave us infacol to ease stomach discomfort. And he continued to advise giving anna infacol as long as the belly button was still bulging.

I remember my CL mentioned a saying for babies with a bulging belly button - something like the next baby will be a boy or something..

Whose babies has a slightly bulging belly button in the first 2mths? It's more commonly found in baby boys than girls.

hernia...
my son did the hernia op when he was abt a yr old. The pd said it was both side...though i only see it on one. So she did bilateral hernia op anyway. I reckon she did both side so that dun nid to worry abt it. Son has got inguinal hernia...so nid to do op else i won't have any grandkids.

fox sale....
my colleague wana go for the sale today...any mummies know if its still worth to go? Like still got many items to see see?

yvonne: do u think there is a possiblity that we would not understand what ur 'hair' is? :p

Morning everyone!

the hernia thingy..

bbgirl: did the PD apply copper sulphate to dry up the belly button? coz if he did.. then Teng most likely has this bulging belly button too.. i remembered it was umblical something.. can't remember the exact jargon..

Audrey: wah.. i think ur hb's family would be very anxious to eliminate this condition once and for all! :p

astro..
yeah lor. In fact the op was done a month after it was diagnose. ANyway..kids threshold for pain is incredible. He was up and chirpy after the anesthetic wore off. NO worries abt the pain part. Saw some kids who did circumcision...also runnig abt and playing in the play/recovery area after surgery.

audrey: maybe organ immature. no pain.. teng can also some time pull on his di di real hard!!! i see liao.. very very shocked.. and worried :/

u ask a grown up man go and do all this.. probably total bed rest for a week! haha. man.. the older they grow.. the lousier they become! .. hee :p

astro,
this is not power yet... my fren son, the one having hernia now... tt time went swimming with them... he keep hitting his bird! i quickly stop him and told my fren... she said he everyday like tt... i was like: HUH? not pain ah? wahahahaha....

aiya.. teng not umblical hernia lah.. it is umbilical granuloma.. infection of the umblical cord.. coz stupid confinement nanny still bathe him in tub when wound not yet heal.. then she wanted to use sesame seed oil to dry the wound up somore!!

stopped her.. though not sure of exactly how.. but sesame seed oil just doesn't feel right.. bought her comestic olive oil instead.. jialat these CLs.. sometimes i wonder.. do they know what they are doing?!!

http://www.babycenter.com/0_caring-for-your-newborns-umbilical-cord-stump_127.bc

then she got and wrapped teng up TIGHT TIGHT somemore.. 'will catch chill .. will catch chill.".. then heat rash liao. pls lah. me not CL .also have more common sense than this lor! *Faint*

bbgirl,
its nearer to Kovan, Tampines Road.
have u move ?

star.. when u taught rae to sit up?? did she cry the whole house down?? Teng hor.. wah biang.. dunno how to say.. screaming murder kind.. like that not ' fun' lei...

Astro: Teng's is not the same lah. That's the umblical cord not dropping off yet cos it hasn't dried up.

Dr Low is a very cautious PD. He will deliver the bad news first to prepare the parents. Given that and he wasn't worried abt abt's hernia, I was totally put at ease. When he examined her, just told us she could have wind in her tummy as shown by the belly button. Her button button is normal now. It's a bit sunken as it shd be. The bulging was like in the last trimester when some of our belly buttons was bulging as well.. Know what I mean? My CL is very good leh.. Her cooking is solid!

My nephew also pull his birdy when he's bathing.. Babies like anything that's protruding - birdies included..

Astro: Try playing this game with Teng when he's sitting down. I play this with anna and she enjoys it. I exert some pressure to push her gently backwards. She will exert some counter strength to stay seated and not fall backwards.. Do this a few times..

bbgirl: i think he detests being placed on his tummy.. put him lying down .. already crying.. coz he wants to remain standing. encourage him to flip.. will flip.. but still crying.. want to help him tuck his legs in.. cry even louder.. sian.. like that not fun lei.. how can learning a skill be so chiam for a bb?

Astro: Maybe he thinks you're putting him to sleep that's why he makes noise..
But overall I think he's crying to manipulate you. Cos all of a sudden you're restricting him.. You've got to persevere on and let him CIO sometimes...

bbgirl: just tried the 'game' with him.. and he damm lazy.. pushed him slightly.. he smiles.. then flop into his father's lap.. *Sigh*

i dunno abt this. very jialat.. i think this is not worth CIO-ing.. sian..

Enne: another new site i discovered.. intersting.. basically google 'developmental milestones baby' will gat many results..
http://www.pbs.org/wholechild/parents/babies.html

now trying to google for 'alternative' milestone.. meaning even if bb dun crawl.. what other things/acheivement will ensure that they are still on the right track..? .. keep fine tuning the search.. can't get it right somehow. sian...

Astro: Hahaha.. He's lazy alright..
happy.gif
But at least he smiles.. So it shows he's enjoying it.. Do it with him..
Let's tackle the problem one by one. Honestly, what's your concern with him? You have written that he can't crawl yet, and doesn't like to flip over and you want to train him up.. Have you crawled in front of him to show him the way? I still crawl in the playmat once in a while when I play with anna. And she always smiles when I do that..

michelle
SQ bought 40pcs!!! omigod

SQ
are u opening a bb clothes shop? too bad tampines too far.

Babygirl
u do sound like an expert, really good.
btw do u want to try gogobambini? its really near your parent or parent-in-law's place, at Demsey road, i heard from my friend its good, free for bb under the age of 1, playgym.

Astro
does teng play wif ohter babies often? perhaps u can try to bring him to playgroup so that he'll observe other babies and follow them?

bbgirl: concerned that he doesn't pull to stand and sit up by himself.. yes i did

pink: seldom. that was why i went for kindermusik trial class twice. applied for gymboree memnership .. went gymboree play trial class etc..

BBgirl,
my boy also had umbilical hernia when he was 1mth old. PD told us it's very common & should go off by 1 yr. True enough, it went down by 3rd mth.

pax/star: my D&D was at garden asia. it's a flower nursery with space for holding events. very deep inside kranji. can look across the see to jb on the way there. they hv events for bigger children. ours too young now.
was quite lucky this yr. got 11th in lucky draw. a longines man's watch. hv not seen it yet but colleague says worth 3k. but b4 tt, got fruit punch spilled on my white pants.
sad.gif

Just came back from gymboree trial class. Anna likes it!

Pink: Haven't tried that. But if foc for babies under 1yr, then does it mean it's more suitable for older babies? Cos I brought her to MyGym, they also didn't charge her in the end, but the equipment is more for bigger toddlers and older children. Can try. When do u intend to go?

Irin: My girl's also went away by abt 3rd or 4th month..
happy.gif

Astro: I don't understand the part abt him not wanting to sit up by himself. If I add to this that he does't crawl, then does he just lie at the same spot most of the time? How does he move abt?

I'm sleepy again.. Going off to zzz...

Yvonne, Astro: Can bathe in bathtub. But I know must dry it thoroughly after the bath using a q-tip wrapped in alcohol swipe. My baby's dropped while my CL was still with us and we kept it in a small medicine plastic bag.
