Think easier if I just snap some pics of anna's toys to show you.. Pardon me for the poor quality...

Anna likes this one..

Just brought anna to bed..

Yvonne: Me no expert on flashcards leh.. I read one "trick" is to flash them very quickly and to stop before the child gets bored.

QQ: It's the purple packaging. It's Pampers Active Baby. Auntie says it's not as good as MP, so she's using that for day use and MP for night use.

I like the gel of MP.. Used to let anna wear that to swim, oh my gosh, the MP weighs so heavy after the swim.. Hahaha...

You know Tian best and no one can tell you your method is wrong.
happy.gif
Jia you!

Kelley: I didn't do anything special to wean her off the yaolan leh. She did it herself. What I remember is she weaned off the day naps first, then slowly she weaned off her night sleep as well.

And we are surprised by her self-weaning becos' she was really reliant on it and we switched on the power for her throughout her day naps, and throughout the night.

SQ: I hope tonight is the last night for YE to CIO.

SQ, Astro: Both of you "talking" behind my back huh?? I think no one method fits all babies lah.. LIke I told QQ, the mother knows the child best and is therefore the best person to know which method works best for the child.

So we should give ourselves more credit..

bbgirl: the flashcards i bought for teng.. is all koyak now.. coz too soft the materials. and he just take one into each hand.. and FOLD them to death.. laminate also cannot.. sian. waste of money..

Astro: It is similar.. The balls will roll down and exit from one of the holes.. Right now, anna is more using the toy to pull her up to stand and putting the balls into her mouth.
happy.gif

Astro: Depends on whether you want to keep the cards for the next child. If yes, remove the cards from the baby once you've finished the flashing session.

Astro: There are many types of sit to stand toys. The last pic is actually a Chicco playgym hand-me-down frm my BIL. When anna is young, she was lying under it and using her hands to touch and hit the hanging toys. Now, it's anna's and my nephew's fav toy and they fight over it.
happy.gif

Most impt is for it to have a suitable height and sturdy base. When sitting down, the tallest part of the toy shd be slightly above the baby's head, so that when the baby pulls to stand, the toy is not too low to provide support for the baby. Don't think I need to elaborate on the sturdy base.

I bought this Readybrek (finely milled porridge oats for children) some weeks back.. now finally using it for teng (Since he has no appetite) .. find it quite good because fortifed with vitamins, iron and calcium.. and then because u use milk to cook it (microwavable too) it gives the bb another boast in calcium intake.. good for bbs who are not drinking as much milk.. just thought that it is quite verstaile.. for breakfasts to supper.. of course there are so many brands to choose from....but just wanted to share. iron is fortified here. dunno abt other porridge oats lah.. i add some minced meat, green veg.. and pumpkim/carrot (to sweeten it up).. good as a lunch liao ah! heehee..

coz teng seems to like it a lot. finished whole bowl kind.hmmmm...

bbgirl: haha.. i dunno.. she just gives it to Teng.. and then he figures out a way to entertain himself with it.. most of the time.. he will take one in each hand.. then close his hands.. and fold the card.. i think practice the strength of his grasp?.. haha.. anyhow say one. but i must say.. the cards are very bent.. and remained bent even when teng realeased his grip...

got. try bead chasers.. then i have this cheap cheap.. "snap and link" from jason markterplace, $4.90.. think other supermarkets will have it too.. many colourful, separate, interlinkable parts.. one joins onto another.. can teach bb ad shape, colours, intresction.. serves as a good shape sorter too.. coz many differently shaped intersection.. very colourful.. i like to link it together too!! i find it cheap and good.. ..
happy.gif

bbgirl: readybrek.. must cook on stove/in microwave.. i not too sure if add hot milk will do.. but really easy to cook lah.. then u add fruit purees. become breakfast liao! :p

Astro: There are 4 big beads on Anna's jumperoo. I don't think she's particularly intrigued by them.. Sometimes she will slide them from one side to the next..

I discover every baby is different and that we can observe what they like. For eg, my nephew loves the piano.. He will want to sit in front of it and hit the notes. Anna, on the other hand, will never do that voluntarily.

Just to share some interesting articles.. not to create any alarm bells hor..

Astro: How can u tell that of anna?

Yvonne: Hee.. Yah, getting excited is a standard reaction for babies when they see flashcards. It reinforces my thinking that they love to learn..

Astro: I was wondering if Anna's language development is on the slow side. I know she's on the faster side on motor skills so surely there's an offset somewhere.. Thanks for the link..

bbgirl: from the descrpitions i have of anna from u.. for her general preferences.. of toys and activities.. can't sit still.. prefer on the move.. therefore i conclude she might be speed demon.. :p

no lah. maybe not as fast.. but not as serious as 'offset''..

Anna is vv adv. can stand and balance for how long? good good.. that's why Dr Low din ask u to bring her back for 9mths assessment.

Astro: Have I said Anna can't sit still? Actually she does. When we're not with her in her playyard, we'll remove all her hard toys and she'll have the rubber and "soft" toys to play with. She can keep herself entertained. And she's ale to sit thru' abt 30mins of brainy baby or baby eistein dvd..

Pax: I don't count leh. But she's letting go of her hands more and more frequently these days. I think she's now "evaluating" how to "move on" from her stationary standing position. I say this cos she's able to let go of her hands from one contact point, stay standing for a while (this is why I say she's "evaluating"), then replaces one hand on another near-by contact point for support. But she hasn't moved her legs off the ground yet.

Astro: Your article is very long.. Anna sleeps normal. Her night sleep routine is quite consistent from abt 8:30pm to 7am. Her nap times can sometimes be as much as 5 hrs in total leh.. Like today..

Astro: I believe babies shd be given time to spend on their own (under careful supervision of course)... So I will leave anna to play on her own, while we keep an eye on her from a distance.. I hope to inculcate a sense of independence in her from a young age. I know the price we pay is when she's older (and when we're old), we'll risk not seeing as much of her.. But I feel being able to be independent is for her own good..

Astro: Parenting Q&A.

Pax: I don't know if anna's being able to stand has anything to do with the PD not asking us to go back for assessment. Don't think he's seen her stand leh.. And if we hadn't gone back to him for each minor ailment (mostly mossie bites!)Anna suffers, he last saw her when she's 6mths only..

Speaking of assessment..

Astro: I read your post on the conversation with Dr Low. What else did the assessment encompass?

bbgirl: nothing much.. he rang a bell on each side of teng.. check his eyes. then declared his balance ok.. put him on his tummy . says he got good muscle tone.. (but not crawling..?). then say he bullying me.. that's abt all. *haiz*

parenting Q & A is long?

BBgirl
yes, Dr Low has not seen Anna stand. wat i meant was he probably thot that Anna was vv adv at 6mths, that's why nvr ask to see her at 9mths. by all means, book an appt to see him.
