Irin: dun think they poor things.. i think it is good for them to grow up together.. then they will learn to share more.. the first child normally very ego one .. haha talking abt myself lah.. and can get a bit hard to let them realise must share..

these days. teng will growl at us. if we remove something from his hands.. say the egg shaker .. when he is engrossed playing with it.. wah.. yaya lor him. he got temper me dun have meh? boo him.. dun care.. jus remove. and 'warn' him.. then he give me the buay song look.. ( i give him mine back).. then he unearthed another egg shaker from his big big box of messed up toys. and play with it again! haha.. so cute.. he can pick things out from container.. but can't put that back in yet.. sian.. else he will have to clear the whole house for me liao.. with the way Miser is 'helping' me.. i seriusly relegated to 'Mariah" liao.. sian..

ya, can convert one. Cos Reyes needs to hold my hands to sleep. If I put alone in the bed, I gotta sit by her bedside till she sleeps, tiring. In this way, she can hold my hands for all she wants & I can just sleep. hahaha.

re: cot coverting to toddler bed
mine can. but i am just wondering.. if there is a bigger than usual bb cot on the market.. coz teng looks squeezed up in his.. haha.. and changing it to toddler bed.. just aids mobility lah.. but dun accomodate to the growing height and size?? no?

For my kids' case, Reyden will give his mei mei his toys but not the other way round. Reyes' will scream like don't know what if we take her toys & give gor gor.
Think our kids are all starting to be 'possessive' of their things liao, gotta teach now, else will end up with don't know what.

size ah? I don't have the exact measurements, just used a ruler to measure. Approx. 125cm by 75cm. Height for 3rd level without mattress is 35cm. $805 for a cot??!! That's ex. Thought of changing them to single beds when they are 2yrs old so ex beds are out.
 
Irin: and u have the twins growing up with ur dog.. even better!! they will learn to appreciate animals better.. and wun develop the ego thinking.. that humans being being the superior breed .. heehee

ex because mothercare stuff all imported from europe and dunno where.. exchange rate.. everything becomes more ex liao!
 
that's reyes lah. Normally we don't leave her there alone so I'm the 'bed rail' that blocks her lor. hehe. My bed & the cot also got 1 lobang in between but we put her mattress nearer to my bed then use another baby mattress to put into the lobang on the other end of the cot. Like that can act as bumper also. haha. If cannot, then you change a new bed lor. hehe.

Not unfair lah, just that boys are more "chin chai" so he not as 'sticky' as Reyes. So far never try letting her sleep without me before, think should try. But then if she crys, she'l wake Reyden up, haiz ...

my mum giving K her last feed. she managed to finished all 180ml then suddenly my mum called me.... bring potty !
so i rushed to bring potty inside.
JIT too, managed to remove the diaper and catch the poo! 2 strands but SMELLY like nobody biz!
husb came into the room, smelled & ran out to the doorway. told keira, wah ! whole room smelled of your poo.. wahahahaha....

hallo mummies

I'm back again! I feel so much better now! Bought so much clothes for Kira, you know I hardly go out one, work, home, work, supermarket, home... so this round, I bought almost the whole store and walked the entire city till my gf very exhausted. She said shopping with me was like doing sports excessively! I got Kira a qipao for the photo shooting today and with a match headband...so cute cute leh!

QQ, you miss me ah!!! How is you tian ha? Is she still crying when she sleeps? My Kira somehow don like to go to bed nowadays. I keep a 5 day log this week, whatever timing we tried for bedtime, she also not happy! But I noticed that if she goes to bed at 9pm, she only get up once at 11 to drink and then through till 8am the next morning. But she always rub eyes, rub nose, scratch head at 6-7pm liao, so how? Even when she has 3 hours or more of nap!!!
 
Morning mummies...

These 2 days, I notice Anna likes to be squatting instead of sitting when playing a toy.. I think the reason is it's faster to go from a squatting to standing position than from a sitting to standing position.. But quite funny to see her squatting this way as she's not properly toilet trained yet..

Astro: Sorry the sentence turned out this way. I meant to discuss with you when both are online to evaluate this as I don't know exactly what you've tried with him. I wanted to go from asking how does teng get about to the question that's really daunting me - Is there a need for him to get about?

You see, if the things he needs and wants are always within his reach, then to the child, the skill to move about has become "obsolete".

To give a familiar example. At gymboree, to encourage the babies to move about, they "litter" toys all about. Parents can then pick up a rattler/maracas to motivate the child to climb up the ramp, go across the bridge, down the slide etc.

Without the small toy which arouses the child's curiosity, would the child have completed the obstacle course? I doubt so. And the parent would then assume the child is unable/not capable/cannot do it.

And I think the case with Teng, it's more the latter. If this is the case, then you got to create the "setting" and motivate him to get about.

BBgirl: Ok. Perhaps slightly moody yesterday night to interpret ur concern that way.. my apologies

I do agree with u that many of his toys are within his 'reaching out' distance (just to restate this. . he can reach very far out without moving his butt).. and because of such proximity.. it has reduced his desire to get his butt off the floor and go exploring himself. That pt i understand.

I used to feel that he was uncapable cause he has yet to attain muscle maturity. But i kept having this nagging doubt in me that he is capable for he has strong legs.. he could stand steadily (with support of course) on our legs since 2 mths of age!! until Dr LOw affirmed this.. then i realise.. i was right.. unfortunately.. things are within his reach .. too easily..

and that he likes to 'mayor' round the house. holding onto our finger tips.. this such fun and is the 'exploration' he needed. maybe this has also reduced his desire to move BY HIMSELF? .. why must things be so complicated?

having a headache.. coz he really doen't have one fav toy to get him moving.. all his toys are his fav.. and he can really keep himself entertained for a long period of time, just sitting there,, with any toys.. so till now.. i still can't seem to find the right bait.. and i am also thinking of how to get him lean forwards instead of backwards.. when 'pushing' himself up to stand.. coz once he gets the direction right.. i think he can pull to stand by himself liao!!! sigh..

i am trying..and hopefully with Dr Ong's tips.. we will see some results soon..

i agree with u... need to use those toys to motivate the child... i remember i use my remote to place north south east west direction just to make bel flip over... but still cannot make it... lol...

Good we got pass that.. Hey, if everything is his favourite, why not u start by putting him just a little out of reach from his box of toys? Then you go into hiding and watch how he maneuver his way to the toys. Of course be sure the environment is safe for him first.

I didn't go to the sales leh.. Too faraway and the urge is not strong enuf.. Anna really has a lot of clothing.. If I buy now, I can only look for some 24mths and more for 36mths and above..

Yvonne: Hello!! Anna took a long time to flip over last time.. She's actually one of the latest ones to do so here.. But strangely, once she flips over, she bagan to crawl shortly after.. I don't know what happened.. But maybe it's cos all along we use the bumper mat, therefore we're not afraid she'll fall over and hurt herself. As a result, she has a lot of room to move about and explore..

Astro: Set this up. Place the toy box ready in a safe place. Then place Teng at the appropriate spot. Then you got to hurriedly go off. Just before u do, tell him mummy is going to do something (so he knows he can't call out to you for help to move about). Then hide yourself and watch..

bbgirl: his 'BIG' problem is.. he is easily amused with anything.. these days. is his foot. ehh.. this box of toy out of his reach.. tried it.. he sits there playing with his foot.. !

ehh.. i tried the other method too....i wil put his box of toys slightly out of his reach.. then go off to to cook.. all silence.. i thught what happened.. came back, away from his view, he was playing with his fingers!... and poking the floor!

bbs are like these.. once they get past a 'tough' stage.. everything else falls into place nicely.. like Anna figuring out how to flip then crawing almost immeidately..

i hope teng will figure out this tough stage and get moving soon!

BBgirl: teng has flipped over ,, and now resting on his tummy .. sucking his thumb.. *sigh*
 
Astro: I wasn't keen for her to flip over too soon. Cos that time she's too young and knowing how to flip over without knowing how to flip back presents a risk she may suffocate herself.
Give Teng more chances and he'll be up and about liao..

Astro: Hey Astro.. I must say Anna surprised me by crawling up the short but steep ramp (45 deg?) yesterday..

I thot it's too steep and too tough and she'll surely lose her balance..

Gymboree is really her cup of tea, cos the lesson is not so structured and the space is bigger with more equipment (ie there's more room for free play and more things to explore). And she was actually paying attention to the girl conducting the lesson yesterday. Finally, the only bit of musical thing she can be involved in now is in the action of the action songs - "If you're happy and you know it, xxx." And the lesson covers this..

Having said this, I'm still on waiting list to try out at Shauna's class at kindermusik.
 
astro, u know wat, the worry u have for teng is exactly wat i have for anthea. she is exactly like teng! except that teng plays with his own fingers and feet if toys are out of reach but anthea will CRY! i hv tried the methods bbgirl and all have suggested but result is the same. she will sit there and cry. i also hv this feeling that she will skip the crawling stage. she can pull herself to stand (only) when holding to my hands but does not attempt to cruise. hm..

today i tried saying "no" to her putting the spoon handle in her mouth and licking the high chair tray. very funny, she seems to know that i am "scolding" her and immediately "bian3 zui3" and cry. very cute.

star, showed anthea baby einstein for the first time just now. she not interested leh, short attention span on tv. i find it very boring too haha.. bb girl, star, do we leave them watching the show quietly or must explain to them as they watch eh?
 
Edde: I usually let her watch on her own. Or sit quietly next to her and watch it together. When we started, Anna wasn't too keen either. Then slowly her attention span became longer. I find she prefers Brainy Baby more than Baby Eistein. You may wanna try that too. As with other things, we try to stop before the child gets bored. So when she's figetting, we'll remove her out from the high-chair.
 
bbgirl: this ramp that u are talking abt.. which outlet? it is actually easier to nagivate all these.. if crawling.. coz lower centre of gravity .. not so easy to lose balance.. if teng can 'walk' up such ramps, holding onto just our finger(s) on both sides.. i am not surprised Anna, with her good crawling skills, can too!

ya.. try shuana's class.. then i think fair comparison.. but then again.. i still suspect tat Anna will like the gymboree lah !

edde: ^ 5! again.. me understand ur concern.. PERFECTLY!

Edde: IMHO, when bbs are left to watch TV/DVDs.. it would be good to engage them as well. I particularly like what Yvonne does wtih Bel. They dun watch such dvds per say. but they do watch the last 15 minutes of 'Little Einstein" aired on SCV.. from what Yvonne described.. i gathered that it is a segment with music and songs.. and actions.. such as clapping and rolling etc.. and what Yvonne does.. is to help bel do each of these actions TOGETHER.. and of course in the meantime.. they have fun..

Edde: just visualise how ur students can daze in class when their eyes are fixated on u.. u get what i mean liao! :p.. haha.. not saying u boring ha.. dun ah bish me.. but interaction is key to our bbs now. and it is best to exploit these .. down to every second. during their waking time..ehh. of cos must also allow them some quiet playing time alone.. like what bbgirl did with Anna.. fosters their independence

Astro: The harbour front. Erm.. It's a triangular piece of cushion and placed next to the blue round-about slide. Actually when I first saw it, I thot it shd be used as a slide cos of the steepness. But it was too short for a slide. Walking will be tougher of course and need to lean forward and stoop a little.
It's easy to spot.
 
bbgirl: can visualise it. think saw it the last time teng was at vivo.. but he was too possessed to try.. very eagerly waiting for the stupid flu to clear.. then go and exploit all these.. and get my $50 'back'!..

*sigh* teng refused all his lunch.. sigh.. dunno what's wrong with him.. not too sure if he has slept.. leave Miser to handle him.. coz he patient. and i am not! arghh..

Edde: I feel Baby Einstein engages and stimulates the baby's imaginative and visual powers more (ie the right brain).. That's why we watch it, we find it boring.. Cos we're all using the left and logical brain now..

me going lunch, just to complain tat im fed up with leia, kept crying to get wat she wants, to ask us to carry her, to let het stand at the tv console, early in the morning 7am flip and cry to stand up, im so sleepy omigod...entertain her until 11am...scolded and shouted at her, then ignore her
 
pink: sigh.. me frustrated with Teng too.. he cranky.. dun want lunch. but can't sleep.. gave milk.. then still can't sleep.. duno what's wrong with him.. damm

of course when u shout and ignore Leia.. she cries even harder?.. and make u more irritated.. bbs are so annoying at times..
