hi all,

can anyone tell me what time your bb sleep?? and is your bb on routine already???

me've been trying to put my bb to sleep at around 8pm.. i read in many many books that the best bedtime for bb is around 730-800pm.. it used to be allrite before i go for my biz trip in london, she sleeps around 8pm, but now i've been back for 3 weeks.. and she still sleeps around 10plus.. my MIL just carries my bb out from the room and says that my bb dun want to sleep.. alas.. how to have e chance to sleep if she plays with her.. maybe she is rite, my bb really dun want to sleep at 8pm, but she last wake up at 5.30pm.. she normally takes nap after 2 hr.. then isn't it her bedtime now.. it's already 920pm.. she still not asleep.. it going to be one of those nite, my MIL carry her to sleep.. alas..

my poor mil carries my bb ger all the time.. till her hand needs to go for operation.. and still she insists on carrying my ger.. wat can i do??
i feels so helpless.. sometimes i wish that i had not had all the knowledge from the book, maybe i'll think that it's normal for bb to sleep at 10 or 11.. but now that i know better, i feels so terrible that my ger sleeps so late.. and wakes up in e nite crying cuz she can't fall asleep herself.. all i want is to train her how to sleep.. why is it so difficult??

the last time, some of you asked me to asked my husband to talk to my MIL, no use lei.. my husband also think if ger dun want to sleep, just play with her till she is super tired, then she'll sleep.. but if she overtired then sleep, it's not good rite.. it's better to let them fall asleep themselves.. sometimes i feel like showing them the bookS that emphasize on all the good sleeping stuff.. i try to build a routine around her, but think it's not working well, just as she is abt to sleep, she'll flip and then be awake again.. any suggestion?? i bot so many sleeping books, babywise, gina ford.. but no support, how to work??? my bb can't even cry a bit without my MIL coming to the rescue..

so sorry for the long mail.. just need to ask?? wat time do your bb sleep, am i being paranoid??

kyla,
1st, cool down. Books will always tell you to let baby be on schedule for their bath, milk, nap, play and bedtime. It's easier said than done (although not impossible). My thinking is babies are also like us, sometimes hungry, sometimes not, sometimes sleepy sometimes not.....because they cannot communicate to us in words, we cannot understand them, but nevertheless try to predict their needs and wants and set some routine.

I don't deliberately set nap times, meal times and bedtime. I take the cue from her....her mood changes when she's tired, feeling bored (wants to walk, wants to play) or hungry for milk/food. She set the routine for herself, she used to sleep at around 11pm, now she's in bed at around 8.30pm. Sometimes she will sleep at 7pm and wake up again before 9pm and play play play until past 11pm. I think it's ok if they sleep late and also wake up late. They should have night sleep for 10-12hr, with sleep feed if necessary. My gal if sleep at 8.30pm will wake up at about 8.30am; if 11pm, will wake at about 11am. (But these few days she only sleep for about 10hr and tend to wake up at 3plus eyes big big, got to transfer her to co-sleep cos I sleepy and scared she play and flip by herself in the cot. I know she didn't go back to sleep immediately...took about an hour plus before she ZZZ again. We simply ignore her wiggling, put pillows around her and my arm on her tummy for comfort.
happy.gif
)

How she fall asleep? Hmm...the early bedtime would mostly be nurse to sleep (post dinner feed) although she can fall asleep herself by sucking her fingers, watch and grab the mobile, bite her blanket or pillow...etc; the later bedtime will tend to be play with her/watch TV with her till we sianz then throw her in her cot and ignore her or we sianz of her ee ee nor nor and I put her to my breast (provided she does not protest).

I stay with my ILs too and true, my MIL will be anxious if she hears bb cry loud and long. That's why I very scare my YY cry. Luckily she seldom. At night, we entertain her in our room and carry her out only if she wants a walk. So that my MIL got no or little chance to carry her. but then, this is not a bother cos my gal is not in the habit of carrying to sleep or patting to sleep.

I agree that you can't force a bb to sleep against his will. They will just be more noisy and untolerable and you will be stressed.

Take it easy....if you don't want your MIL to carry to sleep, tell your hubby to speak nicely to his mother. one little change at a time....it's not going to be easy for your little one to change his pre-sleep preference if he's already used to your MIL's carrying.

Good Luck. just my 2cents worth .... :p

bblim, I agree with u abt Dr Keoy. He like not enough sleep so after birth I change to Dr. Ong. He actually stick his finger in for my gal to suck when I went for the check up 3 days after discharge and says bb hungry. So unhygenic.

Interestingly my gal if wake from her sleep dunno how to find her thumb and self soothe herself back to bed. Hiaz...gotta carry then she will find and go back to sleep.

chenoa - *poke you*

twinkle says it will be:-

pan-fry pork fillet roll with celery, carrot and golden mushrooms

Hi kyla,

Don't be too hard on yourself. I was previously quite hard on myself after reading tonnes of books (I'm sure I have all the books that you have!) but now, I really dun have the energy to worry so much about sleep and him not sleeping through the night. As long as my son's needs are met and he gets around 15 hours of sleep a day, I am fine.

My son has a routine, though it's a flexible one and I just watch out for his signs. He would usually go to bed anytime from 7 to 8pm (3 hours or so after waking up from his last nap) and he gets up around 6.30am. On good days, he will get up at 7.00am or even 8am. He would then be awake for approximately 2.5 hours (I watch for tiredness signs) before going down for a nap. He naps twice a day, sometimes with a 3rd catnap of 30 mins.

My fil and husband sometimes told me that the baby is not tired when it was nearing his naptime, but I think he is. Of course the baby wants the company and don't want to sleep unless you put him down! And he would usually sleep for 1.5 hours if I insist on getting him down for his nap.

Would you dare to tell you mil not to carry your girl so much? When my fil was here (I am in the US), he wanted to carry and rock the baby all the time. I just told him straight not to, cause when he leaves, I will suffer. And he would also need that to get to sleep next time. He's obviously not happy, but maybe use a good tone of voice and let your mil know what you read in the books may help? I also told my fil that things are no longer the same as last time, with more research being done to baby care. Show her that you know what you are doing and that you are doing the best for your girl.

I have been having a hard time getting my son to sleep on his own, but after he turns 6 month old, he seems more receptive. Now I don't need to nurse him whenever he wakes up. I would just pat him to sleep in his crib (we patted for 2 hours the first time we do this!) Night nursing has since then been cut down to 2 nursing and he sleeps for 4 hours in a row before waking up now. That's a major improvement considering that he used to get up at least 5 and even 9 times a night!

Hang in there... it takes time and it will get better as your girl gets older and understand more of what you are doing. Also, do persevere at what you are doing, if you believe that it's good.

Woh! What a long post! Sorry! :p

kyla,

on how I get him to sleep, I nurse him. But these days, he won't go to sleep after nursing so I just leave him in the crib. He will ehh ehh ehh for some time, then go to sleep on his own...i find that nursing probably relaxes him abit, so easier for him to go to sleep as oppose to just plonking him in the crib directly after playtime.

Kyla,
Ur hb has the same thinking as my husband. He too was having this thinking.

So, this is what I do. Not sure if it will work for ur bb.

* Close the room door with bb n myself.
* Place her on mattress with me n she sleeping between the wall and me.
* Tell her I m going to rest n if she's tired to sleep.
* Amazingly, after a while (when I woke up) she sleeps.

Think, juz 3 weeks only, shouldn't b the case of her sleeping patterns changed.

But rather, I noticed, as bb grows older, the sleep becomes lesser.

Like XT, she doesn't even want to sleep nowadays in the afternoons and so juz close the eyes for 15 minutes and then wakes up.

So, she gets very tired by evening 6/7pm and would sleep through (except for her feeds) till next day.

As different bbs differ, got to experiment a few things lo. Try letting her play as much as possible in the daytime n then at evening falls, place her in dark room n just talks to her... sooner later she should know once darkness comes, it is time to close the eyes shut.

*********************************
Paiseh, ladies.

Yesterday super busy n afternoon went to HQ to do some human discussions till evenings... so didn't pop in.

We finally bought the humifier but didn't wait for the sale. So, price still tags at 199. Trial in our room, don't see the effort yet as I, for the third row of the night, woke up and sneezed again.

Hmmmm... or is it me?

Xuanting alternates to sleep in air con room and open air but the haze made both of us eyes dry and nose irritation. She will rub her eyes really hard (just like me) and nose as well (just like me) too.

Maybe becoz we got flat and small nose. So more sensitive to haze. =p

BB Eye drops?
By the way,

any of u scared of putting eye tears? or eye drops?

Any idea for bb?

Re: Snoring bb? Normal?
Also, I realise my gal is snoring in her car seat twice already. How???

kyla, tell yr hb bb needs to slp to grow up and they will be very healthy. bb life is eat, slp and play.

nite plaing is no good for them, it will become a habit end up 3 of u will have a lot of trouble. I would suggest that set a time for yr darling to sleep. is a good habit coz' as he grews older, yr darling will auto slp at the time that is set for him.

Even when bb grows up to say kidergarden, they still must a time set for them if not they will be out of hand.

Not that i want to frighten u gals, i'm saying from a life experience from a mother - my colleague.

Her son was very precious and they spoil him since birth coz' is the only grandson in the family then.

End up the boy can eat anything he wants, slp anytime he likes... and worst play along corridor with other children... due to no displine.. now he is in pri 1, where displine has to come into pic. is hard to control him already.

He open the fridge door, when parents ask him not to so.. he refuse to listen and reburke coz' is hot. and parents let him slp in air con since brith and he is so use to it that if u dont on the aircon in the afternoon for him, he will sit in front of the fridge.

then, talking abt slping.. he refuse to slp when time is set for him. when he is told to do so and being beaten. he took out a fork and says" i want to kill all of u"

See that is from a pri 1 boy.

that is why i always believe spare the rod and spoil the child. displine is very impt, so play when is necessary, spoil him when necessary and do set a time for him to play, and slp.

so in future, we wont have problem educating them that night time is for slping.

What i do is by 8.30pm, i wil make milk for him and put him on his matress (we slp on floors) in fear he falls off and he refuse to slp on his cot anymore.

after the milk feed, he will slp till say abt 10 plus almost to 11pm.. then he will make noise.

I wont switch on the light and just feed him milk. and pat him. no talking no singing.. as time he got use, and he will slp right after each feed.

Do take care, le us kw what prob u face, we will try to find good ways to help you out.

PS: sigh i also having problem telling my in laws not to carry him so much. lucky i dt stay with them.. in not i believe will have conflict. end up coz' they carry isaac too much, i have prob during weekends.

kyla,

My mum follow what the book say, surprisingly what old folks say tally with books haha.. my mum always suggest to "program" and "Train" my ger such that she sleeps early.

On second thought, may not be wise too, because it will reduce our interaction time with her at nite. Imagine whole day play with in laws. We fetch her home and she sleep. Eventually she not close to us perhaps.

She need to be carried to sleep when she is in her first three months. My hubby did most of the carrying and rocking and end up his arm in trouble. So ur mil may not be wise if she continue to carry ur bb as she grows bigger and heavier.

After those three months of terrible nites, my bb got used "automatically" to a routine of sleeping between 10-11 pm, UNLESS she choose to be cranky and sleep, latest 1130pm. BUT very seldom she is like tat lah.

The most common hour she sleep is 1015-1030 pm, which is ideal for us adults too. And we gotta wake her up (feel so apologetic) at around 615 am every morning when we go to work. Weekends, she can sleep till 7 am or even 830 am at times.

Hmmmm, in fact once it hits 1015pm, if she show signs she is tired (rubbing her eyes, making noise), i will tell hubby to put her right away on her mattress. And dun look at her, dun play with her, dun smile at her ANYMORE, else she dun wanna sleep and it will drag the hours.

Another thing that makes her sleepy i think, is our master bed. Once she sleep on it, she feels happy, and soon after will feel "drowsy" :p

mommies, help!
Leo's fever comes and goes. Highest is 37.9 deg but it's 4th day liao! should i go see pd again? he also got runny nose and cough. everytime he finishes his milk, he'll cough and cough, then vomit abit (got some phlegm). he's very uncomfortable now, keep moaning and wants to be carried all the time. i so heartpain

Hi fussiecat,

Think you better bring Leo to the PD, I brought Amanda to the PD yesterday... and she has throat and ear infection, has yellow mucus stuck in her nose too... she is now on antibiotics.. and PD was saying to monitor the situation, must bring her to see her if she has fever or coughing out phlegm.. cos the infection might lead to bronchitis

Hi girls,
after thinking and thinking, do you mind if I bring sushi for the potluck?

How many should I provide for? everybody bringing husbands and maids?
