(2006/04) April 2006 MTB

Tracy, don't get scared by hunnipot's story. Not all women are the same. every different birth is different. yours could be a really easy one. and i think a c-section is still considered quite a major surgery leh.

Sorry ladies..i missed out on Hunniepot's story..what exactly happened to her such tt she needed c section instead?

Tracy,
Are you delivering 1st week of April because that's the date you've chosen for your elective c-sect? If you don't have elective c-sect, were you planning to be induced on that day? I think if nothing wrong with you and the baby, the best for baby is actually a natural birth. Of course if this is because of some medical condition, then we cannot say.

I hope you and baby are fine and healthy. And if so, I really urge you to re-consider your options. C-sect is not less pain when you consider the healing phase. Also might have problems directly breastfeeding baby as your wounds would be painful then. And during natural delivery, don't worry, it's not painful for baby.

shylyn, hunniepot's cervix opened 3 cm after 3 tablets over 24 hours.. went labour ward to put the drip and finally open 5cm after 8 hours.. but baby was stress and she was sent to emergency c section..

Thks for clarifying..much appreciated ^_^ but pardon my ignorance..but what's the tablets for? To induce labour?aiyo..no wonder tracy is considering c section.

Btw, how's Hunniepot's condition now? Hope she's feeling alright.

sggal,

shylyn,
Hunniepot currently is still in hospital as C section. She b discharged tomorrow.
She thanks all for asking on her condition.

1sttimemum,
Actually the consultant in my antenatal class discourages from using such anti-colic bottles like Dr. Brown's where there is a 'straw' going up the middle of the bottle. Her rationale is that the 'straw' is very thin and you cannot clean it. So if anything goes in, e.g bacteria, your baby will be sucking the germs. She doesn't encourage us to buy any bottles whereby you cannot reach every single spot to clean. Likewise the easy to hold bottles with curves because bottle brushes are straight and if the bottles are too curvy then it's difficult to clean also. That's her opinion, and I do agree with her.

1sttimemum, i bought pack of 2 (one big one small) @ $26.90, cos it was recommended. looks good, but of course not tried yet lor. they sell at Metro Tampines or Mums & Babes Plaza Sing (bot here) or the First Years KKH

jilian, the Dr Browns bottle come with a super thin bottle brush to clean the inside of the "straw". but dunno how clean it will be able to brush. anyway, will be sterilising right?

sggal,
yeah but you still have to clean before sterilizing. If have things stuck inside, sterilize also I feel is not much use. Just that cos the 'straw' very thin, you have to be extra careful that it is clean cos not easy to see, if it isn't.

But different people have different opinions. But since I haven't bought, I won't be buying cos of the price also. If you use, and really effective you let me know ok?
happy.gif
On the internet, have opposing reviews also which makes me think that it probably works well for some babies and not much help for the others.

sggal/jilian
Thanks for your time to explain.... me just suddenly thought of it so ask lor. Anyway i won't be buying any bottles liao lah unless if bb really dun like than got to try and see.... I already got dunno 6 or 8 4oz bottle liao so buy somemore, my hubby will KILL me man!!!

ya jilian, a lot of the things that i've seen on diff forums, what works for some mums/babies doesn't work for others. anyway, when i finally get round to using the bottles, i'll let u and 1sttimemum know how it is.

Hi ladies,

Thanks for all the concern. I definitely prefer a natural birth but my gynae wants me to be induced or go for C-section on 1st week of Apr as he feels that my placenta might not be able to carry all the way till full term. As baby is on a small side so his advise is to deliver her early and so that we can feed her.

Plus I was conceived with twins early but lost one during 11 weeks. So he is not taking any chances for this baby. He also told me abt baby being distress during induction and might be high risk for the baby.

I thinking of not being selfish to the baby and therefore opt for C-section.

Tracy,
hmm....did u change your nick? Previously your nick is not Tracy right? Coz I remembered 1 mummy in the forum lost 1 of her twins at 11 week also

HI....

Gynae visit today, lost some water...so overall weight gain only 0.5kg, but baby's growth also slowed...was expecting 0.4kg increase for the past 2 weeks but only gained 0.2kg. That's why the 'computer calculated that my EDD will be one week later than expected.

Just 2 visits ago, gynae says my baby will be a above average-size baby, now it appears that it will be a small baby....if it continues to put on so little weight. Hubby says must eat more and pump up my baby!

Re: groin pain
Gynae assures that it's the baby's head pressing down causing the muscle stretch. My gal's head is 80% engaged.

Now, it's still not painful when sitting, standing or normal walking....but it hurts quite bad standing up and walk after sitting down cross legged on the floor for a long time. ouch!!!!and I'll walk like a crippled duck. hahaha

I believe that as the head gets lower in the pelvic, the pain will be more prominent and persistent.

someone mention can see her baby's chubby cheeks....Hmm...I din get any scan pictures of my gal for quite a few visits already. And gynae always focused on the overall groth of the baby, taking its abdomen circumference, length of thigh bone and noting the weight. Dunno how my baby looks....

Jumbo,

So how much weight did you lose immediately after delivery, and after the massage? How much more to lose? I trust that you still wearing the binder.

How's Nixon? Have you decided on his PD and immunisation jabs?

Morning ladies,

Tracy,
Sorry to hear about your lost at 11 weeks. In this case, yes of course better listen to your gynae. Good luck for your c-sect yeah. And remember to post your bb's photo once you're up and about.
happy.gif

Chenoa,
I think weight gain for baby is not fixed per week. So yup one visit it can be above-average then the next visit it's back to normal. Mine was like that too. But for me I don't mind if baby is not above average. He already 2.6kg at 35 weeks. By the way, if you want bb to be heavier, you can try eating durian.
happy.gif
For me I'm staying away from them as I'm already feeling so tired with the weight of 2.6kg. Don't know how I'm going to last the next few weeks.

Good morning Ladies.
happy.gif

Tracy, take care! Look forward to seeing your baby's picture soon.

Went for my 36 weeks checkup, bb is 2.6kg. Gynae said good weight and expecting bb to be around 3 to 3.2kg at birth. Bb not yet engaged leh. I may due early in 1st week of April (Orginial EDD : 15 April) as I'm experiencing contraction already but not yet on regular interval.
happy.gif
So now, got to start hand over my work to my colleagues.

Wishing all of us good luck!

Cheers~

good morning everyone!

chenoa, if u want more weight, maybe some birds nest? i took some, and my baby put on more weight, but last few weeks hvn't eaten any....hmm... think shall hv some this weekend... now drooling already :p

jasminetea, that's good news right? btw, pls pm me yr email so i can send info about the first aid. u don't mind if i do a group email to all 8 of us right?

morning ladies, went for my 38th week checkup yesterday afternoon. BB now weighs 3.1kg. only 50% engaged so i very xian! maybe like wat hunniepot said, juz enjoy bb free days first.
happy.gif

I noticed the April babies so far like to come out early. We better get ready.

By the way, if any of you are interested in a talk about drug-free birth, there is a lady that will be talking about it at the Moms In Mind showroom this Sat at 11am. See this link:
http://www.ebizmoms.net/index.html

I have attended her talk on undisturbed birth before and find it very helpful. She is also very friendly and approachable so can ask her if you have any doubts/questions. The talk is free.

Sggal, I had PM you already. No problem for group email

Terrier, my contraction got some mild menstruation alike pain, but it is irregular. My contraction is more on tummy hardening and so tight till I feel like a balloon going to burst anytime sometimes. Gynae confirmed this is contraction lor. I was told to admit immediately once I got this contraction on regular basis or when I get more and more uncomfortable.

Ya, I agreed that we should start getting ready
happy.gif
Right now, just enjoy our remaining pregnancy days
happy.gif

ya daphne / jasminetea, u are right. must enjoy our last few dats/weeks. just smsing with another fren yesterday who delivered 2 weeks ago. she said after delivery, no time for yrself or hubby. all attention focus on baby

Jasminetea, i got this kinda contraction also... i thot it was BH.. i guess i better start asking my gynae during my visit tomolo...
also find tat i tends to go to toilet for big biz more often... used to have constipation.. but now it's like an everyday event.
Last evening, got a terrible headache and went to see a doc. He say i'm having fever.. till now, still feel mild headache and eyes like a bit blur blur... no strength to do anything at all.. hopefully can recover fast... can't imagine falling sick during delivery.

Jilian
From what u written abt the Dr Brown's bottle, u also attended the class by Mrs Wong right? That's the exact same words she used...wonder whether i hv seen u b4 then ^_^

Tracy
My bb is 2.3kg at 38wks..so at least urs is bigger than mine..but i guess it's more advisable to listen to ur gynae..to the bb, being delivered is a very tedious affair thus some of the babies might not b able to go thru.

RE: Engaged
seems like many of the ladies here hv babies engaged oredi...wonder how come mine have not..think my bb is still finding his way into my pelvic bone..hee..

RE: Weight Gain
Honestly, durians does seem to play a part in weight gain for e bb..cos mine increase his weight slightly after me feasting continuously for a few days on durians..but i never heard b4 tt consuming bird's nest will do the same...

shylyn, i also dunno if birds nest works or not. but my baby seemed to like it leh. waaa.. when i drink it.. she kicked a lot and then at next appt, put on a lot of weight leh (my weight + dr said she was chubby!):p

shylyn,

Yup Mrs. Wong's class. Over liao. It used to be on Sat at 4.30pm. Did you attend that one also?
And don't worry about the baby head engaged. Mine not engaged also. Hehe.. And I heard before about the bird's nest part. Can try anyway, cos supposedly eat bird's nest baby will come out with nice skin.
happy.gif

Sgggal
heheh...mine likes durians. In fact, he alwaysmove after i took durians..but pity i should hv taken durians much earlier..so at least he can ggain more weight.

Jilian
same timingg as well! When was ur last class? Mine's on 4 March..mabbe we were in the same class but just dunno each other. ^_^ When's ur edd? c whether got chance at meeting each o in e labour ward..hee

jumbo

I have passed your mobile no to my bro.. he will contact you regarding the receipt for the musical mobile..

Quite surprisingly.. I put my bb on the cot and at that moment she looked ready to cry.. and I switched on the mozart in motion mobile musical and she immediately fell asleep! Haha.. so cute.. not sure is it cos I kept listening to the music when she was still inside me

Re: C-section vs induction

Can say I have had quite a long and difficult labour.. got admitted on Monday morning and only delivered my bb about 36 hours later via c-section. The reason is cos my cervix is very posterier, thick and stubborn.. from what I heard.. most people's cervix can be opened up fairly ok with just 1 tablet.. not like mine.. 3 tablets (with my gynae's intervention somemore) I went for c-section cos my bb's heart rate was decclerating with each contraction.. as her umbilical cord was ard her neck.. otherwise I would still have had continued on with the induction and try for natural birth..

Will update you guys on my birth story later..

RE: Bird Nest

Not sure if you gals heard before that consume too much bird nest will indirectly cause bb to have asthma..... this is what i heard from my Chinese Sineh..... I did read in morning chinese newspaper too, I think its better to eat in moderation and not too much. Even i went to those chinese medical hall, they ask me if this is my first pregnancy, than they advise me not to take too much bird nest too...

Let me try to recap my birth story

20th March

11:30 am: 1 cm dilated.. Admitted into maternity ward cos of decreased fetal movement.. gynae suggested to induce

Gynae checked my cervix and commented it is very high up and thick.. did a cervix stretch (the pain is much worse than labour pain itself!)

11:45 am: 1st tablet inserted - didnt feel much pain initially

8 pm: Nurses checked and only 1.5 cm dilated. Inserted 2nd pill. The contractions came in.. getting stronger and more painful

21st March

7:45 am: Gynae came to check. Cervix still dilated at only 1.5 cm. Inserted 3rd pill.. and did cervix stretch again (screamed as he did it)

3 pm: Gynae came in and cervix finally dilated to 3 cm. Was overjoyed.. as I thought that I have a good chance of experiencing vaginal birth

Was put on the drip.. insisted on no epidural.. used laughing gas

6 pm: Cannot tahan the pain anymore.. asked for epi.. (sorry to the gung ho mothers.. thought I could be the first to go w/o epi.. but the pain is unbearable esp in induced labour)

6:45 pm: Epi administed.. instant relief

11:30 pm: 5 cm dilated after 8 hours in labour ward.. Gynae came in and commented that bb's heart rate is decelerating with each contraction.. had no choice but to go for emergency c-section otherwise bb's life in danger

11:57 pm: My darling is born! Unfortunately I could not witness her birth as I was put to light sleep on epi and morphine..

Saw her for the first time.. she was crying away.. and she immediately stopped crying after I called out her name
