The mid-year break is finally here! All together now, say “yay!” This year, we’ve broken down the activities into four categories to make it easier for you to decide. Ready? Here are the best Creative, Active, Smart, and Family activities for kids (and parents) to take part in this June. Enjoy!

GET CREATIVE WITH ART, COMPUTERS, FOOD & NATURE
1. Make Your Own Gelato at ACT 3 International’s Sweet workshop
ACT3 International is transforming ION Art Gallery space into an exhibition for children. In it, children aged 4 to 8 years can will experience a sweet time through visual arts, workshops and storytelling. This land of desserts is inspired by Roald Dahl’s whimsical children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The gelato-making workshop is only for children and lasts for two hours. Parents are to stay and watch for the first 20 minutes during the opening storytelling performances. ACT 3 International has other programmes in June for children from 7 months to 15 years old. 2. Make Art at Avatars & Cloud Babies

3. Be a Hello Kitty Engineer for the Day at the Sanrio Robotics Institute
This unique showcase-cum-theme park comes to Singapore after successful runs in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Shanghai. Each admission ticket comes with a Gaming Card which can be used for experience purposes. If you buy a Robot K ($38) you can design a Hello Kitty robot and bring it home! 4. Create arty Superhero Characters
In this Superhero Artcamp by InkFusion, children aged 8 years and above can learn basic manga drawing with colour pencils, rendering, and water-colouring. Younger ones between 5 and 7 years can learn fusion cartoon drawing with mixed medium colouring and make toys and stickers. Premium art materials and a light meal will be provided.

5. Start Scratch-ing and App-ing at Computhink
Give your child exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) through computer programming at these classes by Computhink. Scratch classes are available for 7 to 9 year olds or 10 to 12 year olds, while coding for Mobile App classes are for children aged 10 years old and above. Each class lasts two hours.

6. Experience Nature indoors at Playeum
Playeum’s new exhibition, Hideaways, is a new immersive experience for children to explore, observe, and construct in nature. Here, children will get to view creatures and insects in their natural habitats, build an insect shelter, create musical instruments out of natural materials, and build imaginary habitat made of clay. 7. Design and Tinker with SaturdayKids
SaturdayKids has new programmes this June! In addition to their regular Scratch sessions, they now have classes on HTML/CSS, Pykids or Python for Kids, Little Bits x Design Thinking, Graphic Design, and Makey Makey. These classes are suitable for children aged 9 to 12 years old. If your child is more interested in hardware, let him or her get crafty and build a game console with the Makey Makey electronic circuit! This class is suitable for children from 7 to 12 years old. Younger ones can get started with Scratch, where they will have fun while learning to code a game or two!

8. Make Your Own Softie
If your child likes soft-toy animals, she will love this workshop by Sew Into It! Children aged 6 years and above can customise the animal’s fabric design, learn to sew with a sewing machine, and bring their creation home! Options include Ollie the Owl, Frank the Fish, Pat the Pigeon, and Ellie the Elephant. The workshop lasts for about 2.5 hours. Other non-softie sewing classes are available as well.

9. Create Cupcakes with Daddy

11. Be a Private Eye
Children can train to be secret agents at this one-day camp at eXplorerkid at Downtown East! Kids 5 to 12 years will start by making their secret agent spy ID, move on to decoding activities, and hunt for items. Refreshments are included to help take the load off all that casework. Parents, you can also top up for additional play-time at the indoor playground after this, if the kids are still raring to go!

12. Be a Radio DJ
Find out if your little one has what it takes to be a radio DJ! Children will get to learn about elements of a radio programme, the equipment used, music formats, content development and scripting, and get tips on how to present. This two-day course by Singapore Media Academy is designed for 9 to 12 year olds. 13. Seek answers to the Science in our Lives
Is your child is intrigued by magic tricks, the mystery behind light-up LED greeting cards, or the physics of gas-trapping bubbles? He’ll find the answers to these at the Science holiday workshops at the Science Centre Singapore’s KidsSTOP Academy. There are workshops for kids as young as 4 years, and those for children 6 to 8 years. Each workshop lasts 2.5 hours.

16. Write with the Force
Primary-level students will enjoy this five-day camp by LoveKids that includes speech and drama, public speaking, mind-mapping, composition writing, 2D Art, and even a performance to wrap it up on the last day. This workshop has a limited intake so sign up quick! Preschoolers are not left out. They can solve The Case of the Missing Lightsaber in a speech and drama workshop!

17. Dramatise Nature
This Arts in the Garden workshop series by NParks teaches children to appreciate the beauty of nature and be inspired through drama and art. This drama, craft, and planting workshop titled The Tree and The Vegetables is suitable for children from K1 to P6 levels. It leads children on a journey of discovery about how we rely on nature for food. Kids will also produce their own art and craft masterpiece, and plant a dish garden. 18. Have Fun with Science and Chemistry
There are lots of events happening this Children’s Season at the Science Centre Singapore! The Fun Science Chemistry Workshop will bring out the scientist in your child as he/she conducts experiments from the Young Scientist Card. This is suitable for children 9 to 12 years old. But younger ones are not left out! Other activities at the Science Centre Singapore (SCS) this Children’s Season – storytelling, fun spots and gallery trail – are free.

19. Learn to be a Reporter
Inquisitive little minds will have a treat at this camp! Children from 9 to 12 years will learn basic news reporting techniques from professional journalists, learn to capture photos and videos with journalistic values, and pick up comic drawing skills taught by a Thumbs Up! artist. 20. Get Good Manners with Molly
Well-mannered children are such a joy to be around! Let your child learn to be one at this 3-day camp filled with hands-on activities including discussions, games, stories and quizzes on all topics of manners. Camps are groups into 4 to 7 year olds and 8 to 12 year olds.

21. Play Chess like a Professional
Chess is a game that requires problem-solving and planning, skills that will be useful throughout your life. Children from 5 years can take part in the chess camps (two or three hours per day over five days) and complete one chess grade. There are four stages: Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate and Developmental.

23. Discover Musical Maths
The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) is performing The Little Adventurer of SCO: Mathematics Equation in Music! Conductor Professor Quek Ling Kiong leads this exploration into the mystery of music scoring and how music notations can be turned into various math formulas. Presented in English, this concert is designed for children between 5 and 9 years old. There will be free pre-concert activities (rom 1.30 pm and 4 pm) like rhythm workshops and tambourine making workshops at the lobby so do go early!

28. Dance the Flamenco! Ola!

Hola! Put your hands in the air and get those dancing feet going! Parents and kids (between 7 and 10 years old) can do the flamenco together at this year’s da:ns festival’s Footwork Flamenco workshops. Conducted by visiting Maestro Manuel Betanzos from the renowned Academia de Manuel Betanzos in Spain, this is a rare opportunity to learn from a master, and sure to be great fun for the family! Each one-hour class will include an introduction to the basics of Flamenco and its philosophy.

30. Run with Dad at a Father’s Day Run
The family that runs together stays together! Create beautiful memories at the Father’s Day part of the Mileage Family Day Run (the first part, the Mother’s Day Run, was held on 8 May). The Run is open to all (except infants who are less than 8 months old due to safety reasons), with various categories to cater to kids, singles, couples, parents with children, and parents with strollers. There’s a 5 km one for Mum or Dad with one child aged 13 or above, a 2 km stroller race (Baby must be aged 8 months and or above), and a 1 km run for children from 3 to 12 years old. 31. Make Pizza and Pasta!
Cooking isn’t just for big people; kiddos too can get to flex their culinary muscles and nurture their love for food and cooking with Doughworkz by PastaMania! This engaging, fun-filled programme lets mum or dad and little ones aged between 4 and 12 years don their chef’s hats and aprons and make pizza or pasta together! At the end of the two-hour session, participants will be given a certificate with a photograph too bring home. This June holidays, parents can treat their kids to a package of two classes, priced at $45. Participants may choose to attend one pizza-making and one pasta-making class.
