It’s that time of the year again, the mid-year break. One whole month to unwind, recharge and bond. Why not expose your child to new adventures in the upcoming June school holidays? Here is a bumper crop of 41 ideas to keep them busy!

Expose even the littlest ones to the genius of Beethoven as home-grown solo violinist Tang Tee Khoon and friends enchant little ears with his music. Beethoven Heroic Years − Concerts for Children comprises two 50-minute interactive sessions. Newborn infants to six-year-olds get to know the four instruments in a string quartet and the role each plays. Older kids up to age 12 years learn about the great composer’s real life stories. ACT 3 Drama Academy is hosting Mid-Year Theatre Fun Holiday Workshops, designed for tots as young as seven months old up to teens aged 16 years. Parents and toddlers up to 36 months old will bond in engaging pretend-play workshops. Children eight to 10 years old will love bringing their own version of the musical Beauty and the Beast to life. The older kids get to immerse themselves in a ‘whodunnit’, honing inquisitive minds and drama techniques at the same time.

4. Work with Robots

Head to the Dino Robot Factory at Science Centre Singapore and experience the creation of a robot dinosaur. Children even get to assemble robot dinosaurs and learn firsthand how to manipulate their movement. The travelling exhibition is most suitable for children up to 12 years old. While you’re there, don’t miss National Geographic’s Robots over at the Omni-Theatre (27 May to 25 June). Enter the revolutionary world of humanoid robots and see how they are changing our world.

5. Meet Your Favourite PAW Patrol Pups

The pups from popular Nick Jr. cartoon PAW Patrol are dropping by City Square Mall again and it is going to be paw-sitively fun! From 3-18 June (except Mondays), dress up as a PAW Patrol recruit and join Ryder, Chase, Marshall and Skye in their rescue mission on stage. 50 kids get to redeem a Meet & Greet pass (with $30 spent) at each of the three sessions daily. This year’s National Heritage Board’s annual Children’s Season Singapore goes beyond museums, covering all aspects of art, culture, heritage and education. Embark on a traditional trail to join the dots and relive familiar family hangouts from the 70s and 80s at the National Museum of Singapore. The Asian Civilisations Museum will be featuring Ghost Nets of the Ocean, a fascinating ocean-scape that hopes to raise awareness about ocean pollution. 9. Create Cartoon Characters

Does your child like doodling? Sydney, Australia’s Cartoon Kingdom flies to Singapore every year to conduct cartoon illustrating workshops for kids. This June will be their 12th visit! The workshops are designed for children four to 15 years old and the programme varies each day. This means that you can sign up for the entire week and not get bored. Each workshop also has a different dress code, so don’t forget to dress up accordingly!

Even if your child has never touched a musical instrument to date, it’s not too late to start. A multi-day summer camp at Aureus Academy lets participants try a wide variety of instruments in an interactive atmosphere. Kids from four years of age will have fun using their bodies as instruments in the Dalcroze-Eurhythmics class. The Orff Percussion class lets them explore unique instruments such as the glockenspiel and bongos. 30. Grow a Lizard Tail

The seventh edition of Singapore Art Museum‘s family-focused exhibition is back with a new theme: Imaginarium: To the Ends of the Earth. One of the headliners is Lizard Tail, a colourful and interactive soft-sculpture environment by Hiromi Tango. It teaches about adaptation and survival based on the lizard’s ability to regrow its tail. On 18 May, 5 June, 9 July and 12 August, kids have the chance to create their own Lizard Tail to add on to the original! There are eight other inspiring and engaging art installations, as well as a variety of workshops and activities.

Ubin island is having their annual open house. Pesta Ubin comprises community-led activities where more adventurous ones can cycle and kayak, while homebodies can check out the photo booth at Uncle Lim’s shop and have a relaxing mangrove tour by boat. Younger ones can colour in a fun map of the island and play kampung games. Activities such as Round Ubin Race, UBiNavigate and Chek Jawa Intertidal guided tour require prior registration.

The inaugural Gallery Children’s Biennale, themed Dreams and Stories, inspires kids and families to use their creative imagination while exploring immersive and interactive art showcases. Stick colourful stickers all over the furniture and walls of The Obliteration Room (above) by world renowned artist Yayoi Kusama. Then challenge yourself to walk over 12-metre-long bridge through infinity − don’t fall into the excavations of the former Supreme Court building below! The Faber-Castell Art Festival is coming to town! An art exhibition, a series of interactive workshops and other fun activities will be taking place, all within a ‘castle’ setting. Families can take part in an art competition as well. The festival also aims to break records for the biggest mosaic made by colour markers and the longest banner of human figurine sketches. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of artworks will go to Children’s Cancer Foundation.

Aviva SuperFunDae is back with more than 30 non-stop carnival games and activities, rain or shine. Different zones offer anything from live music and movies to pirate water play and jungle adventure. In honour of Father’s Day, daddies can team up with the little ones to take part in the new Daddy Donut Dash and other fun races. 39. Bond as Family Campers

June school holidays - ubin camp

If you are into sleeping overnight in a natural and rustic setting, don’t miss this camp by Cicada Tree Eco-Place! It is specially designed for families to spend quality time together, talking and walking. The guides will lead educational walks in the evening, night and morning. Also in conjunction with Pesta Ubin, they will host Musang (Palm Civet) Watch on 23 June. More nature walks will be available − stay tuned to their Facebook page for updates.

40. Grow Green Fingers

June school holidays - hortpark

Start ‘em young, so they say. Gardening is enjoying a new surge in popularity, considering all the efforts to establish vertical gardens and rooftop nurseries. To get the kids involved, families can visit Gardeners’ Day Out, which happens the third Saturday of each month at HortPark. Little ones can join activities like storytelling and handicrafts such as making pressed flower bookmarks and leaf printing. You can also pick out new plants, consult a plant doctor, harvest produce from the Edible Garden, learn from the experts and network with fellow gardening families.

41. Visit the President

June school holidays - istana

At least his place of work, that is! Sign up for a guided nature walk conducted hourly by NParks and the President’s Office during the Istana Hari Raya Puasa open house. You will get to see the Istana’s flora, fauna and biodiversity. Arrive early to beat the queue, as signing up and payment are done on the spot. Family packages are available. After you enter the Istana grounds, look for signs showing you where to register for the tours.
