hi charlene..

I know wat u mean..about hyperirritability of the cervix..some women's cervix are hyper sensitive, n its condition is worsened with incompetent cervix..therefore a stitch (cerclage) cant be done cos it will cos the cervix to be infected. Is that yr condition too? if so, i heard gynaes can give oral drugs to strengthen the cervix instead of the cerclage, n cervix must be monitored weekly. I heard maternity belts n pelvic belts may help this kind of conditions..they sell maternity belts in s'pore.

Hi ladies, i am happy to hear some of you successfully conceiving and going on to be mothers soon. i am trying this month itself..
As i am a victim of incompetent cervix, my eyes opened wide when Charis mentioned oral drugs and belt.

Charis, can u please share as much as you know about the two things?

Appreciate that!

Charis,
yes, do share about the belt & drugs... i'm sure it's very helpful to the mums here.

i only heard (know) about belts to support the pelvic and lower back pain during pregnancy.
(especially if there is already an existing 'bad-back' that causes aches)
here's the similar type of belts i have seen in s'pore :http://www.sportstek.net/backpelvic.html

as for drugs, i only heard about the ones used for preterm labor. i had a friend who was in her 30+wks, she went into early labor. she was warded and if i remembered correctly, her son was then in a low birth weight range, so her doctor gave her bed rest and jab/oral tablets to stop the contractions and labor. she had to take early maternity leave and see her doctor very often like every few days but she managed to delay about 3~4wks then gave bith, but her son, still quite small had to be nicu for a while.
but here, not sure if it's the same sort of drugs used.

sylvia,
sorry to hear that you had incompetent cervix. did your doctor give you further advise on how to prevent or steps to take ?
an incompetent cervix if not treated could led to another m/c OR a premature birth...
it is said that the earlier you have the cerclage performed the more likely the pregnancy is to continue.
maybe before you TTC, go and see your doctor and understand more about this issue...

b'cos like any other surgery (cerclage), there are risks.

do take care

Hehehehehe!!! My menses come already yesterday! LOL! Pain pain..

cheezel,
Oh thank god! glad that you're ok. rest well.

gd facts,
ya, my contractions pain starts at home before i going to the hospital.. But my bb not moving already that time.. I remember during that time, i was also in danger. High BP. So what to prevent if is cause by incompetent cervix?
But how can we know that we're going to give birth .. OMG!

Really got so much to learn!

Hello, anybody knows about hypothroid and how it will affect pregancy? Now I suspect my previous M/c was caused by my thyroid condition. The doctor said I had sub clinical symptons, meaning just a few symptons, no conclusion. I wonder how I can protect my baby if I get pregant again......So sad

Hi shine..

Thanks. Im doin ok now..had a bout of flu n asthma came up last few days..quite bad..but recovering.

Sylvia, charlene, gd facts..

I've heard of this alternative methods to help incompetent cervix from the net..I read them in the american forums n medical journals. Im not sure if they do it in S'pore.

U see if the cervix is hyper sensitive, there may be a counter drug to help this condition, then put the cerclage..for eg. steriod jabs that prevent inflammation or anti biotics jabs to prevent infection. The belts, from what I read on the net, help to support the womb..

In local context, my friend's gynae actually recommended her to use it for her low placenta n premature labour condition, n to prevent the cervix from opening, but her underlying problem was low placenta..she use it quite early, 20 weeks. Im not sure if its solely incompetent cervix, then will it work? Anyway using logic, those maternity pelvic belts may help in some way, cos the baby puts pressure on the weak cervix, hence it opens..so using the belt, it strengthens the pelvis circle where the cervix sits, n takes off some pressure from the growing baby on the cervix..therefore it may help. No harm trying..but do check with yr gynaes..or find out more from the net. I realise there's a lot of advancements in maternity medicine n practices in the States..which we can find out about, that may help. Some of them are not advancements, but jus 'proven mid wives practices'.

Hope it helps. If i find out more, will make sure I'll share with u ladies.

However, its very crucial u ladies find a good gynae who will do their best n willing to try everything possible to help u overcome this.
U can find a gynae who specialises in high risk pregnancies..or a trusted, familiar one who is assuring n dilligent.

For those who are Christians, I believe all these conditions are 'not meant to be'..I believe His design is perfect..our bodies, our wombs, even our babies, jus that cos of sin/genetic/generational curses n environmental effects that cause a lot of these problems related to childbirth n pregnancy..also Satan does not want us to bring up children. So he has means to discourage us.

So hang on there n have faith. Even those who are non Christians..having children is a good thing..so somehow the cycle of 'nature' will honour u..if not in the past, now..but in the future.

I apologise to those who not comfortable with 'religion'..do ignore my post then. For the rest, I hope it helps u in some way or another.

Hi Jinglebun,

U can read more abt thyroid in the link.
http://www.chemocare.com/MANAGING/thyroid_function_tests.asp

I was told that my blood test show that I have high TSH hence could be hypothyroidism which leds to irregular menses cycle that can affect pregancy and I am supposed to repeat the blood test within 3-6months to see what is the TSH level. This can be kept under control by hormones medication.

Suggest u see a doc for blood test again.

HI all,

I had d & C on 1 Sept. Found out my mc in my regular check up (11+ week), shock when told baby no heat beat. All along, I had no syndrom of MC at all and no ms syndrom. Thus me n hubby thot we are doing fine and happily shop for cloth n baby stuff.

Any way, it as been a tuff week for me n we are closing this chapter to get on and hope for a healthy baby next.

Am having appointment with gynae on next Fri and may i ask what gynae will do beside scanning the womb ?

Does anyone know if gynae/ hospital will examine the fetus after d & C ?

We are still puzzle about baby sudden death, all we was told is this might due to chromosome abnormality. Me n hubby are both Thalasemia minor but dr say it is not because of that. I read from someother post that a thalasemia carrier mummy should double the folic acid intake but my gynae never advise that. I am trying to figure out what/where went wrong so I wouldn't repeat same mistake for next pregnancy.

My mother n sister have thyroid problem. I don't know if I have too? N not sure if baby death is due to some "illness" in me that i don't know... what should i do ?

TQ
