Hi All,
I’m interested in finding out the experiences of mummies and daddies who have had utilised the services of confinement centers across the border, Johor Bahru.
If anyone could kindly answer a list of my questions below, I would be most grateful. I’m more inclined towards confinement centers because of the services provided like in-house massages, hair wash, exercise classes and the convenience that comes with the confinement centre services.
I’m less inclined towards confinement nanny because of the uncertainty that comes with a stranger living in my house and having to listen to whatever they tell me to do. What if it’s a nanny from hell that makes my confinement period feel like a prison sentence. Like maybe cannot eat this and that or cannot bathe for 1 month or cannot go out of room or house or whatever. I also don’t like my house to be messy and dirty. I know most confinement nannies don’t do general house work. So who does it during confinement? do I have to do my house work myself? There is so many housework to be done, wash clothes , iron clothes , vacuum and mop floor, wash toilets , wash dishes. If husband is working all day, can’t expect him to do the houseworks also. I don’t expect my parents and in laws to do my house work too as they are old and not servants. I don’t intend to hire maid too because of the costs and it will be two strangers (nanny+maid)living in the house instead of one during confinement. BTO flats are the already the size of a hamster cage, imagine 4 grown adults and a baby living together.
But as usual, the elderlies will say confinement centre are a waste of money, why the need to go all the way to JB, why can’t just do it at home ,etc. When we all know the real reason , easy access to their grandchild as and when they want. Everyone overlooks that the mother needs care too. but seems mothers are thrown to one side after child is born. I think mothers need pampering too especially during confinement and not be treated like some caged animal and then people are parading around with your baby outside like some animal show.
Coming to my list of questions:
1) How long does it take to make baby passport since you need passport for baby when crossing border.
2) Anyone experienced medical emergencies with the baby when JB confinement centre? like the need to rush the baby all the way back to singapore hospital from JB. This is a major concern of mine.
3) is there a need to bring the baby for weekly checkups during the 1 month confinement period? means every week on one of the days, you will have to make trip back to Singapore to see doctor.
4) how do daddies working in Singapore visit their wife and baby? Do you all go in once a week like on weekends or stay there for some days then return back to singapore? Is it troublesome and tiring?
5) are parents and in laws allowed into the confinement centres to see and hold the baby physically?
6) are mummies allowed to go in and out of the confinement centres as and when they want? Maybe go shopping mall a while.
7) if baby have jaundice, need to bring the baby back to Singapore hospital?
much appreciated if anyone can share their experiences!
