IVF/ICSI - cycle buddies

hi vanilla_pod_2,

I guess the size must be more or less quite ok for ER on Wed. For mine, the number of eggs retrieved similar to scan except not all are matured.

Blood test shows progesterone..just keeping my fingers crossed to wait for the next blood test.

Take care and best wishes for coming Wed.

Hi Rabbit... that is good..when is ur next blood test?

Thanks for ur wishes...just hope Wed will come soon....I am rather eager but also worried at the same time....

Hi vanilla_pod_2,

I can understand how you feel. The feeling at each stage is so different..from ER to ET to 2ww...counting down to Fri.

I think alot too..various outcomes etc...all the different IF scenarios. Guess we can only take it as it comes ;)
Frankly, am feeling really scared to see AF.

Before ET, dr will share with you on number of fertilized embryo and quality etc, how many that needs to be transferred.

Keep me posted

hi Rabbit... thanks... it was more painful then i expected... i had cramps and vomited when i took my medicine and diarrhea for the whole of wednesday....

Doc called (actually i more gan cheong i called him) yesterday and out of 19 eggs, 16 are ok but 15 are fertilised.... it was weird cos in the morning the figures 16 then 15 came to me.....

ET is tom and hope i dont have the same vomitty feeling....

Is today ur blood test? Hope all is good for you ...take care

hi vanilla_pod_2,

I had vomitting after ER as well.

The number of fertilized eggs could be due to the fact that some eggs are not matured (in my case).
Wow..you have a lot of eggs, really good.

Worry not..ET is much easier, a little like IUI (I feel). Just make sure that you rest after ET and the next few days. Hope it will get better for you.

Thanks, I receive a positive today. will continue to monitor.

all the best

hi Rabbit ...congras!

I am feeling really bloated now.... still monitoring to see if i can take my HCG jab.....today is the first day of my protein diet... hope it helps!

hi vanilla_pod_2,

was checking out for you for the past few days..am glad to see your post.

Thanks. I am quite "worried". still waiting for the scan to happen as i need to see the heart beat to assure myself (at least that things are alright).

Feeling bloated is normal, i do feel breathless as well. Eat and rest well..take small meals if u need because you may feel too bloated. I did not stick closely to protein diet. I just try to eat normal home-cooked meals, don't move around too much, stay in bed. I think I was told or read somewhere that you should drink more water to get rid of bloated feeling.

how many embryo did u transfer? what did the dr say?

good luck. ;)

hi vanilla_pod_2,

perhaps you should go see doctor to assess and see if there is a way to reduce the discomfort..u take care.

i am going to see doctor this sat.

ya...thks..keep calling my doc to update him my bloatedness. I m like 3 mths preggie. ur scan this sat can hear heart beat? it must be exciting. my blood test is this sat...

let's keep each other informed.
It must have felt really terrible with the bloated feeling. Does drinking ginger stuff help?
I had the liver and pig organ's soup couple of times during 2ww to reduce some of the "gas" but i read somewhere it is not recommended to eat/drink this..so not sure if this shd be recommended.

I am both excited and worried as i can't see anything much during the last scan.

Hi, i signed for KKIVF this week and will be starting lucrin jabs after cny. During the briefing, me and my hubby were asked to decide how many embryos do we want to transfer. We chose 2 on the spot but now kept think about it if we should choose 3 to maximise the chances instead. Can anyone enlighten me? Rather worried if we made the wrong choice.

hi rabbit...I have bad news..my hcg lvl is rather low...not increasing to the speed my doc likes....I was so sad but decided to leave everything in God's hands.....

hi vanilla_pod_2,

I read from web that low HCG does not necessary mean no pregnancy etc. Being pregnant also does not mean that pregnancy will continue till full term.

Keep encouraging yourself, don't give up. I keep talking to myself and encourage myself. Continue to take care of yourself. We never know what life/God has for us. Baby dust to all of us.

Hi NZ,

I used to have this worry on my mind.

Dr will confirm with you again the number of embryos to be transferred on the actual day of ET and will tell you about the grade of the embryos and number of fertilized embryos.
FYI, I read from the web that the quality of the embryos does not necessarily mean that there is a higher success rate.

My hubby and I made our decision after considering that IVF does not have 100% success rate as well as the possibilities of having twins or triplets and its complication.

Hi Ladies,

Started IVF/ICSI at KKH, with the first Lucrin jab on the 31st Jan.

Currently start feeling hot but only at night...but at the same time I feel cold.. meaning my body is hot when touched but I am feeling cold that I need to use a blanket. Is that normal?

Will be going for the 1st blood test and scanning on the 13 Feb, which is Day 14 of Lucrin jab. But mense suppose to come yesterday or today but never come. Is it common? Should I delay the blood test and scanning?

What is the 2nd phase of the jab? I heard the needle is bigger? And how long does it take? Are we suppose to jab ourself like Lucrin or must come down everyday?

And once we are in the 2nd phase I heard we have to come down quite often for scanning. How often is that? and can it be done in the afternoon or mornings only?

I hope some of those who've gone through it can help me. Thanks!!

hi MSFamily,

good luck.

hi leftypie.
I don't remember about feeling hot and cold. Anyway i am a person who feels cold easily.

I suggest that you call the nurse about the situation of your missing mense, they are very helpful at the KKIVF center.

hope that i did not get the info wrongly...
Second phase will be puregon for approx 7 days before the first scan (can inject on your own). You may be required to come for more frequent scans depending on the size of your follicles. Once the follicles are big enough, you will go to KKH for pregnyl injection. 2 days later will be ER followed by ET 2 days later (if everything is ok). As for the scans, it is normally in the morning. Call the nurse and check if you can make special arrangements in the event you can't make it in the morning.

I was given a sheet of the IVF/ICSI simulation cycle. You can ask from the nurse..i find it easier to remember as i am quite forgetful.

good luck.

Hi NZ,

welcome.

Hi vanilla_pod_2,
How are u? Have u visited the gynae again?

I have not been feeling too good, can't eat and sleep well because of morning sickness. Trying to keep up my spirit and to feel positive.

Hi Rabbit....take care...try to take smalller meals..

By the way, how many weeks are u already? When did u start to have morning sickness?

I went to scan on 4ww after ET..but still cannot see anything....going to scan on 5ww..
I am still very bloated...alot of water in my system...so have been doing lots of blood tests to see that the key readings are ok..but this week i am feeling better...managed to eat more (to the happiness of my hubby and MIL)...but will still be on another week of MC (that will be 5ww MC...think my HR will faint) cos still very unstable and i cannot walk much...

Hi NZ - welcome...dont worry..the doc will guide u thruout the whole process....everyone's reaction to medicine is different so the schedule can be different ..

Hi Leftypie -- the hot and cold sensations are hot flushes (the hot)... it is rather common sympton during the Lurin stage...and weirdly it happens mostly at night..... i could sleep in an aircon room and wake up in total perspiration....

Hi vanilla_pod_2,

Glad to hear from you..now at 8 weeks plus. I have morning sickness for a while...can't really remember.

I did my first scan around 5 weeks plus but dr cannot see anything much...give yourself a little time. How's the HCG level?

Can understand...u shd not move around too much. I stay mostly at home or in office and do not go anywhere else because I will feel like fainting.

Maybe you can watch some comedy..will really cheer us up and feel much better. Also, start by eating alittle, each progress is an achievement. If i vomit, I try to "put in" somemore food so that I have some strength.

Thanks Rabbit...ya i have been banned from watching CSI like shows...all the TV shows i am watching is the food shows (hoping to increase my appetite so I can place order to my hubby or MIL)...

Not sure my yesterday's HCG level... i will call the nurse on Mon to find out if ok....

Yes, am glad for another week MC cos I really can't walk and my office lifts will definitely make my mood and body worse (we have to wait like 20 mins for the lifts)...

u take care... when is ur next scan? Can u hear the baby's heartbeat already?

Hi vanilla_pod_2,

I just watch mainly KR dramas, especially those funny romantic ones..As for food shows, I can't really stand watching people eating. Not sure why, but I will feel the urge to vomit although I may not be eating.

So far, how's all the blood test?

It is good to rest at home. I do not go out of the office and will just sit whole day at my seat as I can't walk too much.

I can hear the bb heartbeat, next scan is 2 weeks later. I am still quite worried probably due to some past experience. Dr and my hubby both feel that I worry too much and shd leave the past alone.

hi Rabbit - have yet to call the clinic for the blood test results..maybe later in the afternoon when they are not too busy....

Dun worry too much...U will be fine...just take a step at a time.....

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for the info. Well, lately the hot flushes seemed to have disappeared when my mense came.. so feeling fine now...

I'm coming to my 3rd week of Lucrin..and this fri will start of Puregon...May I know the side-effects that might come from this 2nd phase?
At the same time, this jab is taken at home or must come to hospital every morning?

I heard that some of the jabs, we must come to hospital every morning to take it? which one is it and for how long?

And normally, from the day of 1st jab of Puregon, when is the ER? Is it like 2 weeks later?

When they have done the ET, do we still need to continue taking jabs?

I hope some of you can help my blurness...

Thanks!!

hi Leftypie,
the Puregon is also self administered at home...technically u will continue ur lurin and together with Puregon. It is like a pen like thing. How long for puregon will depends on how well ur body respond to the medicine -- that is how many follicles can be detected and the size. u will have a scan to see how ur follicles respond....
the jab that is supposed to be done in the hospital is the one that will help stabilise ur pregnancy once u confirmed preggie after 2ww. That can also be done at home -- but it is just a bit more complicated. and it also depends on whether how much is needed...some more stable takes the jab weekly, some take everyday...it all depends on the person.

Thank you to the beautiful ladies who've helped me with my queries. I'm so bogged down with work that I don't have much time to do much research.
But in a way its a good thing coz it helped to keep my mind off the long journey with the jabs. Very fast its already coming to 3 weeks of Lucrin jabs.

BTW, any common side effects of Puregon? And I read somewhere, someone mentioned that must drink plenty of water, like 2L everyday to avoid bloatedness. Is it during this Puregon jabs?

And what type of food/supplement to boost our chances? likewise the type of food to avoid? like caffeine..?

TKS SO MUCH! duno which ladies are in the same cycle as me... nurse say ER probably 1st week on Mar...if everything goes well...

hi Leftypie,
Puregon will stimulate the eggs...so it is good to drink lots of water but technically that shld continue when u did ur ET as well...for me i got OHSS and it was impossible to drink 2L which i think also aggravated the situation.....

i avoided caffeine when i was doing my jab..cut down the caffeine intake way before i start the program... it includes chocolates as well...

there is talk that brazilian nuts help with the implantation...so u can try eating 1 -2 nuts per day after ur ET...

Hi Ladies,

I had my Lucrin Day 15 scan today, but doc wants me to continue with Lucrin still as I am still not down regulated (if tats the word) and come back for another scan in 1 week time...

Any sisters here had a positive result even after having to continue lucrin for another week before puregon? I read a few stories and most ladies who have to continue lucrin for another week, all end up in a negative...

hi vanilla_pod_2,

well, it's a mix of good and bad days. Trying to stay positive and prioritize my goal, and balance out my thoughts abt personal life and work.

It is good to hear that you are eating 75% now.
I vomit twice yesterday but managed to get some food into my body later in the day. Have u heard from the clinic?

Hi Rabbit,
yes, i called and the hcg again was not going up as much as the normal...called my fertility doc and he said we now have to rely on the scan to see how going forward.....

good to hear that u are positive and manage to eat something...maybe next time u see ur doc can ask him whether there is some vitamins that will help u ease ur morning sickness....i read in the other thread that there is some vitamins that help one of the sisters' MS.

hi vanilla_pod_2,

hope the scan will bring you some good news.

it's difficult to stay positive..not sure if it is the homos...;)
I am taking Vit B6 but it is not really helping much. I manage to have breakfast this morning without vomit. ;) Dr gave some anti-vomit medicine, but I prefer not to take although dr tells me that it is safe to take. BB safety comes number 1.

hi Rabbit... ya..i also like that..dont want to take painkiller when i had OHSS cos worry...but pain was too much and i took.... it did help abit...at least use it when u cannot take it...

Thanks.. hope so too...after today's call with my fertility doc i was abit sad...but like what my hubby said...all in God's will....

hi vanilla_pod_2,

Sorry i am not so good with words. *Hug*

My previous gynae used to tell me that we shd not be sad with loss/miscarriage, as it is Mother Nature's way of selection..Truth but it takes time for us to adjust and memories linger

Ya..my fertility doc also said if this time cannot, dont force it...i still have 11 eggs frozen... he is usually very optimistic so i guess his view is that this time very low chance....

For myself, i keep praying that God takes my baby in His hands, regardless of the results...

hi vanilla_pod_2,

my friend did 2-3 rounds of IVF and did not succeed. she was told to rest for 1 year and try FET and now she is the proud mother of a baby boy. Things will get better for all of us

hi all, i've been contemplating my next options should my clomid cycles become unsuccessful. i'm currently on my 2nd cycle.. going on 3rd if my menses show these next few days. will meet my gynae at kkh in april.

after reading your entries, can i just know, how long does the whole procedure take? from the time you sign up, to the time you have the embryos inserted?

plus, considering that we are working women, some of us, is there a certain amount of days off from your work that you will take. this is to help me plan my procedure should i decide to go ahead with ivf.

thanks for answering..

Hi merlenna,

I am assuming that ur clomid intake is not for IVF process right? I took clomid first for 3 cycles and after that I went ahead to the usual tests to see why i still did not conceive.

There could be other reasons why ur clomid does not work and hence IVF might not be the only solutions. There could be other solutions.

IVF is not only emotionally draining, it is also physically and mentally tiring...unless it is the only solution, do try other options first...hence have a good discussion with ur gynae and ask as many questions as possible...sometimes it is also neccessary to seek 2nd opinions.(P/S: it could also be a male factor prob - so the usual tests shld confirm this)

Usually there will be a 2ww hospitalisation leave after ur eggs are replaced into u...but i have horrid complications and was on 5ww HL...it all depends on ur boss and how understanding he/she is...i am grateful that my immediate boss is kind enough to let me concentrate on this without much worry abt office work
