Most food and drinks are acidic in nature like all soft drinks, isotonic drinks, meat and the way it is cooked etc.
So basically, alkaline water helps to balance out the intake of the high acid in our body system.
Even our blood pH level itself is slightly alkaline at pH 7.35-7.45.

In the long term, it is beneficial to our health.

Hi Nishaz and all mothers, are you still looking for a new water filter?
I'm using one that is very effective in removing chlorine and chlorides and comes with UV light to sanitize the water for drinking without boiling.
I can be contacted at my email address: [email protected] for more information if interested.

The best type of water filter for drinking water is a reverse osmosis one. They filter down to around 0.0001 microns (1 micron = 0.0000394 inches), when popular Brita/PUR filters filter to just 1 micron. This chart lists some of the things that can pollute our water, and what size the particles are. More information on reverse osmosis can be found here.

Singapore has one of the world's highest standard portable water. The main concern is probably chlorine and some dirt that's related to the wall of the transmission pipe, which we usually refer as "scale".

We took some time to study and research the alternatives to filter water system. As an ex-diamond energy water system user, maintenance is always a challenge for us. Not only it costs money to maintain, but also the after sales service for following up of changing filters at the right time to ensure the filtered water is always up to original standard & expectation. Like majority of the users of filter water system, we kept it at the corner after 2 yr, and eventually dispose it.

By chance, we come across this hydrogen water activator via our TCM doctor that requires no maintenance, no electricity, no filter, hassle free, install and forget ! I wasn't really keen but my wife wanted to try the water. So I bought about 25L for her to try, which last about 1 week+.

What caught our attention was this 10min product video :

After 2 weeks of drinking boiled hydrogen water, my wife told me she wanted to buy it! I was very surprised and asked her what happened. She told me her nasal allergy was gone ! No more Zyrtec-D for her! Seems like the sign of immunity boost !

We introduced this to a friend, and her domestic helper described it as "water like my kampung"! Our part time helper also commented that our water off the tap is so much cleaner and better than all the other households she is serving.

It is installed right after the water meter, so we have the whole house having hydrogen water without limit. End results? All of us seldom fall sick. What else can be better than boosting immunity by just tweaking your water source ?

hi, dear all mummy can i ask recently , have install the alkaline hydroflux filter. and it connected to my currect hot cold dispenser. can i know whether is it alright to use the water for my 14 month old toldder .

Hi all mummies,

If anyone is keen in getting the latest model of water filter from a international brand at real affordable cost pls pm me.

Hi all mummies,

I tried and used many brands of water filter system in the market since I have my first child in 2006. After so many times of changing the filters from 6 months and then yearly, I searched for a system that will last my agony on changing expensive filter cartridge and yet have the benefits of drinking healthy filtered water direct from the tap. I do not really rely on Alkaline type system as we know we need a pH closest and optimum to human blood which is 7-7.5pH. Ultra101 water filter system saved me a lot of money since then, I am using it for almost 2 years now and wont be changing for the next 20 more years, since the capacity is 200,000 litres. Using backwash cleaning is easy - it keeps my filter clean all the time! No electricity needed, so even more savings earned! You may check this site for more info www.waterfilter101.com or FB page Ultra101Sg.

Hi all mummies,

I encountered a water filter system " Purity Singapore" i think they are currently having some promotion providing free shower filter if you book an appointment with them. i've already installed a filtration system and it's working very well. You should head over to their facebook page if you're interested. https://www.facebook.com/puritysingapore/

Im curious too, can newborns drink? Is it ok to mix the alkaline water with milk powder?

Hi Everyone

Searching for the right water filter is really difficult with so many brands out there all claiming that they are the best. In the search for the most suitable filter for my family, I have tried Kangen, Echo (From US) and finally Ultrastream (From Australia). The journey took me over 3 years testing and learning more about water below are some of my finding/sharing which I hope will help you in your search for the most suitable water filter for your family.

Are water Ionizers Obsolete?

Above is a link on some important notes on how to choose a water filter or ionizer. Do download the pdf and give it a read. It saves one a lot of time finding out all these information and comparing them. This has been the most unbiased report I have found weighing the pros and cons of each filter/ionizer type, it is also in line with what I have learned myself while researching on water filters.

Here are my thoughts on choosing a water filter.
1) Convenience, Zero Maintenance. I find it best to have a filter that has minimum maintenance requirements or filter changes. Less items to worry about. Ionizers that requires 2h every 2 weeks are a big drain of time and money in the long run.

2) Waste water. Most electrolysis ionizers create waste acidic water which is difficult to utilize. I found myself wasting a lot of precious water using such ionizers.
(Yes I can use it for laundry/mop the floor etc, but it is not everyday that I do those and I create more waste water than I can use which goes down the drain) Please do not keep the water too long to prevent mosquito from breeding!

3) Molecular hydrogen/dissolved hydrogen. More studies are now coming up attributing the benefits of alkaline water to the hydrogen content in it. (Which is what gives it the negative ORP. Note: high negative ORP not equal high hydrogen content, ask for the actual dissolved hydrogen content which is measured in ppm. The higher the better. Above 0.8 is good.

4) Filtration ability for the duration of usage. If they claim 3000 litres, I would want to know the quality of my water after 3000 litres. When used beyond the recommended range, some filters start to dirty your water by releasing the contaminants in the filter back into your water, making it worse than without a filter. I like to be safe from the 1st to the last drop. If a company is good, they should dare publish the results after 3000 litres not just when the filter is brand new.

5) The contaminants it removes. Fluoride, Chloramine and Heavy Metals are the important ones to me. Chloramine or Monochloramine is another form of chlorine added to our water, but Chloramine is much more difficult to remove compared to chlorine. Check out the PUB water quality report here.
Note: water should still retain some minerals, natural spring water has mineral content which is good for our body. If you use an RO filter, do ensure that it puts back minerals into the water, it is not recommended to be drinking pure RO water in the long run. Natural spring water with minerals is what nature intended, pure RO water isn't.

6) Technology advancement. Is the filter able to take advantage of new technology after you purchased your unit? Or would you require a brand new machine in the future? If the filter can be upgraded without much cost on our side as a consumer, that would be ideal.

7) Cost. The price of water filter varies a lot, choose one with a pricing you are comfortable with. Take not to account for the cost of owning the filter no just the initial cost. Cost of owning includes, filter replacement cost including prefilters if the ionizer does not have a good filter. Maintenance cost, cleaning powders and time taken. Electricity usage, water wastage. Many electrolysis units needs an annual deep cleaning due to calcium build up, this takes longer and cost more. If you are sending to the company, it means time without a water filter at home + inconvenience of transporting the machine around.

8) Taste. Of course, most importantly, the water must taste good to you and your family. The better it taste the more likely you drink more water which would improve your health as well. Clean refreshing water means kids are more willing to drink more water too as it taste better. I found myself to be drinking at least twice as much now that I swapped to my new water filter as I enjoyed its refreshing taste.

It has been quite a long post and I hope my sharing helps in your journey to find your ideal water filter.

Hi Ramster,

You had a very good explanation above and it seems that these thoughts you mentioned can surely be answered when you try Ultra101 Water Filter System on your next research. I believed that it could surpass your expectation even on the capacity (200,000 litres) and quality of water with No electricity requirement.

Yes, I looked online at the Ultra101 Filter System. However, I am unable to find more information of the filtration ability of the filter. Would be good it there was lab reports of that for a new filter and after it has been used for over 3000 liters to see if there is any significant difference in filtration ability.

I am also unable to find if it removes Fluoride, Chloramine and other Heavy Metals. It also has no mention of Hydrogen Water which has over 500 peer reviewed articles on its benefits to our body. More information may be found on the Molecular Hydrogen Foundation Website. Or this Article

I would urge everyone whom are looking for a water filter/ionizer for its health benefits to spend some time looking into Molecular Hydrogen or H2. Most of us know that antioxidants are good for us. However, not all of them are equal. H2 is a highly selective antioxidants which only targets hydroxyl free radicals. This allows deeper penetration into our body and cells to target them and neutralize hydroxyl free radicals which is causing a lot of the "damage" in our body. This selective and penetrative ability is what makes H2 beneficial to our well being.

the price is quite competitive and lower to hydropflux and with the same effect. and i go ahead sign for it.

Go to www.nsf.org to check for water filter's certification.

I would suggest Espring too which passed 5 NSF certification (NSF 42, NSF 53, NSF 55, NSF 401 & P477) to date.

I know a good agent for Espring. Servicing on time and FOC. Only need to pay for the new filter yearly.

Email: [email protected]

I got my ro machine from a local seller (moosg.com). Have been using for a year now. I would say excellent quality @ competitive price. Cured my daughters skin problem and my parents loved it! they said it taste better + raw meat and vege last longer in the fridge after soaking lol. Best thing the cartridge placement super cheap. Thumbs up up up.

You can try purewater.sg as well. They have the countertop and standing water dispenser which dispenses hot and cold water (some models come with additional room temperature water tap). About $800 +-

For home use and if you don't want to take up too much countertop space, you can install the filters under sink and have a water tap coming out from your counter top/sink area. this one is room temp. I'm currently using this, bought at $450.

They use NSF approved 4 stage filters.

You can email [email protected] for more info.

My understanding is only way to get artificial alkaline water is performed by ionizer machine which used ELECTROLYSIS process.

Hi just share my understanding that ionizer is not the only way of getting alkaline water, there is another way of getting alkaline water by water filtration process without electricity. More scientific information about alkaline water and how it is made can be found at: www.alkalinewater.sg

I have personally used this alkaline water obtained via more natural filtration process from this company Hyflo marketing. Their guy had proven to me with water test and lab reports that their alkaline water has pH of about 9, which is mildly alkaline. Furthermore their method of installing the purifier under the sink also save me lots of counter top space. Price is very reasonable and services is prompt. So far so good with the water. I can't remember the Hyflo guy's name but their no is quite easy to remember. I remember is 6677-0110.

Kangen is an ionizer (I assume) therefore it can split water into acidic and alkaline...water flow out for drinking is sure to have high PH because it only take the alkaline side.

But whether is negative ORP, I am not sure because if there is an mineral filter...

When measure alkaline, I think the key index is ORP

Do you know what is inside their alkaline filter?

I think the ideal way of filtration is to go through 4 stage

Stage 1...remove big particle
Stage 2...active charcoal - remove chlorine and smell
Stage 3...0.2 or below micron filter to remove smaller particles
Stage 4...add mineral using mag, calcium etc filter

Sorry for the multiple posting. I'm new here, the previous portal I posted seems don't have a lot of active parents and I hope I could get more help from here.

Recently my son got red rashes, went to the doctor a few times, not helping. I heard people say this might because the water we use. We are staying in an old HDB, not sure if the piping was too old and unclean. Anyway, I'm looking for an affordable and effective water filtration system, any suggestion?

Thanks so much for helping.

Using activated carbon filteration and UV light killing bacteria and virus
Do find out more with me is you ar keen

Most cost savings way is built your own filter under your kitchen sink, 3 stage or 4 stage depend on your budget (it can be upgrade anytime you want). Then plumb it to a dual hot water and cold water kitchen tap. Make ur hot water a filtered water while cold water as washing. Total no wastage. When to change your filter, simple just look at the filter condition through a see through housing. UV not required bec all virus n bacteria is killed by chlorine.

What you need
1) dual hot cold water tap $160 - $200
2) filter housing $150 - $180 per piece
3) Fittings $50 - $80
4) Filter Element
- stage 1 - 5 micron $5
- stage 2 - 1 micron $50 charcoal filter
- stage 3 - 0.5 micron $80 - $120 charcoal filter
- stage 4 - mineral filter where you add mineral back into water $180 - $220

All can last a year except for stage 1. Observe the color of the filter to change accordingly.

My 2cent worth after reading the WHO and PUB report.

Hi everyone!!

I did my research on water filtration systems and found that generally, most filters do benefit consumers in terms of water quality, such as removing chlorine from tap water, to say the least. However, it is also very interesting that most brands overemphasise and highly market on that one particular trait their system has and therefore I would suggest consumers to really do their individual research carefully. Find out the sales volume of the water filtration system, know the technology behind each component and its relevancy in improving the water quality in your home and definitely you would want to look into the certification, inspection and accreditation of the water filtration system by renowned organisations such as NSF International and The Water Quality Association (WQA).

For residential drinking water treatment standards issued by NSF International
http://www.nsf.org/services/by-indu...esidential-drinking-water-treatment-standards

Get an idea of the different standards NSF International inspects and certifies and look up the water filtration system you have right now
http://info.nsf.org/Certified/DWTU/

For WQA, it issues the Gold Seal Registered Trademark
https://www.wqa.org/programs-services/product-certification/resources/certification-trademarks

Similarly, look up the water filtration system you have right now
https://www.wqa.org/find-products#/

Comparing the water filtration systems, including Brand D, Brand T, Brand C, Brand K and more, I found out that one of the only brands that legitimately proves their certification and live up to their claims is eSpring. In fact, it is the only Point-Of-Use (POU) water filtration system that combines Activated Carbon Block Filter, Ultraviolet Light Technology, Smart Chip Technology and Wireless Technology in an aesthetically pleasing and ultra-portable water filter.

Honestly, it is rare to find a water filter having a smart chip technology that conveniently monitors the cartridge usage for you. It is also economical as the electricity consumption per year is S$4.50, utilising 2.5W when on standby and 80W when the UV is on and the cartridge can last up to 5000L of water (10 000 bottles of water) or roughly a year, unlike many filters where the cartridges have to be replaced every few months. Lastly, despite how advanced and effective this water filter is, it manages to retain the beneficial substances such as calcium, magnesium and fluoride from your water source, and these minerals are essential for your bone, muscle and oral health.

I hope everyone is more aware when it comes to being an educated consumer instead of a blind consumer that makes purchases based purely on hearsay. Do your research and maximise the value-for-money on your purchases.

I have a friend who is willing to lend his eSpring unit for you to experience a 3-day trial and test whether this water filtration system really works for you, at no obligation to make any purchase after the completion of the trial. Does it make more sense to test it out and see the results for yourself than to base your preferences on hearsay?

*eSpring comes with a 3 year warranty and it can be extended for an additional 2 years at a minute cost.

Only good quality water filters will filter out fluoride, which is harmful when drunk into our body.

Hi from your list of DIY items and costs it probably add up to about $700 and you have to do all the manual jobs. I like to share my experience with you. I installed my alkaline water purifier system cost just $788 all in, including installation and warranty. It is under sink installation and include a free faucet too! It save space and look beautiful without all the tubes and parts in sight. The supplier even did water quality test to show us how we can determine if it is true alkaline water. There is also technical test report to show too. The supplier is Hyflo, their homepage www.alkalinewater.sg also has some useful information about water and health. So go check it out

If you are looking for a water purifier or water filter system, I would recommend that you get a system which not only gives you Clean water, but also gives you Healthy hydrogen-enriched anti-oxidising water. The video below shows how every glass of water you drink everyday can provide you with more antioxidant potential than a glass of fresh orange juice.

Why are antioxidants so important? Charged atoms called “free radicals" damage healthy cells, causing the process of oxidation. Oxidation is what makes cut apples turn brown and iron rust. "Scientists now believe that free radicals are causal in nearly every known disease." ~Lester Packer, PhD, University of California. This includes heart disease, premature aging, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis and much more. Antioxidants stop oxidation, as molecular hydrogen (H2) penetrate biomembranes and diffuse through barriers into cellular components, scavenging harmful hydroxyl radicals (*OH) that damage your DNA, RNA and proteins!

The hydrogen molecule, unlike other antioxidants, is a selective antioxidant that only targets the dangerous free radicals, converting them to water, a byproduct harmless to your body. Thus it protects your DNA/RNA and protein from damage. Hydrogen is the lightest and simplest element, making it easy to absorb by your body. Over 500 studies show that molecular hydrogen or H2 has a therapeutic benefit in 150 health conditions and disease models. “Alkaline water produced by a water ionizer has become the most important advancement in health care since Sir Alexander Fleming’s discovery of penicillin.” ~ Dr. William Kelly, author, Cancer Cure.

Actually its better if you go to www.nsf.org and check it out yourself as it is a non-profit organisation that certify various systems on its capability to deliver good water. Currently Espring has been number one in the market.
Trusted brand for 13 consecutive years too:

whatsapp me @ 97867669 if you would like to know more about Espring. No strings attached. No worries. =)

I think Singapore tap water is already quite clean so paying so much money just to get a normal water purifier don't seems to make a lot of economic sense. But getting a alkaline water system is different. It is not just a "cleaner" water, more importantly it comes with alkaline pH which is more healthy to our body. It is also a good source of antioxidant. Both these 2 qualities you cannot find in ordinary purified water. So if i have to pay I will make sure I get better quality and healthier drinking water and not just simply "cleaner water". My experience with Hyflo is their price is more affordable. Recently I added a stylish looking hot and cold water dispenser on top of my existing undersink alkaline water system and it just cost me $700 more. It is really affordable.

Now I have the whole system of alkaline water that dispenser hot, cold and room temperature water, it is not just healthier choice but also more convenient for everyone at home. Somehow it upgraded our lifestyle too. So fellow mummies try go to www.alkalinewater.sg to learn more.

Hi, I am currently using it...have actually used more than 5 years. No issue with it...jus that every year, you need to pay an annual service contract abt $280-$300 (cannot remember exact amt) for 2 servicing per year.

@soontobe ~ thanks for sharing! Can I check which model are you currently using? I spoke to the sales person and she recommended 2 models: PTS2101 (hot & cold water dispenser model) or AF780T (hot, cold and room temperature). Both connect directly to the water pipe and are countertop models. She also said maintenance is twice/yearly to change the filters (total of 4 filters). Servicing costs around $300 but the first servicing at the 6 months mark is free.

@joleen1688 ~ do agree with you that the standard of potable water in Singapore are already filtered to a high level of cleanliness by PUB. However I guess majority of the parents are still conscious and worried about the state of the older water pipes that runs to each house and also the presence of chlorine or foul tasting water. Who can forget the Straits Times report of the foreign worker’s corpse found in the water tank (can’t remember where)?
