Delivery at KKH 2016

10 week still early, you can choose from all kkh gynea you prefer. I personal think kkh con side is longer waiting time for consultation. The other should be similar to tmc if you choose class a or b1. And you can down grade if required before delivery

Hi all Mummies n MTB,
If lets say, I choose the gyne from TPS then *touchwood* i got complication in giving birth or my baby need extra care, will the bills be rocket high?? Like more than $10k after medisave with deduction?? Say I choose either 1bedded or 4bedded ward.
I'm currently Wif TMC but scare of the bill size if me or baby got complication. As I'm have high blood pressure and I'm on the high risk preg age.
Pls enlighten me.
Thank you.

Hello mummy, if you are concern about complication, i think KKH is your only choice, afterall, any complication else where on this island will all be diverted to KKH to sort out. As for $$$, i think it is secondary when compare it with your life & your bb life too.

Holding constant the your final actually situation, if base on the same ward class, TMC bill is typically higher then KKH. Go to the MOH website to have a look on their statistic which is of cause base on natural & C section delivery only. But if you add a zero at the back of the figure of all the hospital that is publish, in terms of price gap will not be too far off i guess.

All the best.

IMHO, i feel there isn't much price difference between TMC and KKH.
most docs that deliver in TMC offer antenatal package while KKH doesn't.
so KKH consultation costs may add up to total cost. As such the difference between both of them does not differ very significantly.

But like wat aaa111 said, if you feel you are high risk or chance of pre term etc, i will choose KKH for piece of mind. ;)

Hi evilcarebear,
I'm also seeing Dr Khoo CK.. he delivered my 3rd baby and I'm currently 5weeks preggy with #4.. Have you deliver yr baby?

Hi there, I did ask the nurse during my #1 time, if you or your baby have any complication, KKH will downgrade you to subsidized patient, hence your bill will not be rocket high. That is one of the reason why I chose KKH TPS in the end rather than TMC or MtA or MtE.

This also applies to another of my friend, who had a pre-matured baby at 30 weeks. The baby was in ICU for 2 months plus, but her bill ended up to be quite manageable.

Anyone with Jessie Phoon from KKH TPS?
I might have a preterm baby and might have high blood pressure.
Seeing another private doc too but scare in the end the bills will super high.
But this private doc make me feel more comfortable during consultation.

Hi, i'm delivering my 2nd baby at KKH also. 1st baby was at TMC but now choosing KKH because i've got high blood pressure so considered high risk. Im under subsidized.
Just want to know if I choose B2+ as a subsidized patient, do I still need to place initial deposit upon admissions?
Also, I can claim some of the outpatient bills right up to a certain amount?

I have a question here, can KKH subsidy patient opt for c-sec? If yes, when do we need to inform the hospital?

Hello, Subsidy patient can do exactly what a private patient in KKH can do except the following 2 things are not allow for subsidy patient. 1) Choose a doctor, 2) cannot stay in A ward (Single bedder). If both of these 02 x items are not important to you, then go for subsidy patient, the saving is very very significant. Go to MOH website to see the statistic they collate from all the hospital in SG.

all the best

Hi, Anyone has latest bills for private @kkh B1 ward, NAtural without epidural?

Hello, every case is unique therefore you can consider using the statistic provided by MOH website as a gauge. Give it a $2K buffer and you should be quite safe.

All the best.

Hey , I am newbie here . Can I check if I am under KkH subsidy. Can I still choose my preferred gynecologist or I can't choose they will randomly assign one to me ?

Many thanks in advance

Hi Babe, unable to choose gynae for subsidy. I'm also under subsidy and find it ok, maybe you can try out on your first apt and see how it goes. Some may find waiting time too long but for me it's fine. Just entered my last trimester.

Hello, to be more precise for subsidise patient, you will most likely be seeing a different doctor each time you go for check up. They will assign one to you depending whichever doctor is available that day to see you. Rest assure that the doctor all successfully graduate from medicine school de. So no worries. Oh ya, another you should take note is that do not be surprise that while you are seeing the doctor, they might be medical student/trainee sit down behind the doctor with a note book to take down note. They are there to learn how does a full fledged doctor handle patient, i do not believe they will allow you to request them to go out. This is part and parcel of choosing to be a subsidy patient. Consolation are as follows:

1) Significantly lower cost

2) Give medical student a chance to learn in real life situation so that one day, they can be a great doctor to help your children's children

3) Doctor who have medical student attached to them usually are not the most junior doctor in the hospital, afterall, it does not really make sense for a medical student to observe a super junior doctor at work ya. (Make sense)

All the best

Hello mummy who are keen or going to deliver at KKH soon, below are some information i gather at KKH today with regards to $$$ matters

A)Initial deposit ==>(Medisave not allow. Credit card, cash, nets all acceptable, can be pay in advance or/and no later then admission date)

Private patient
A class ward (One bedder)
- Normal delivery - $2,573
- C section - $3,872

B1 class ward (4 bedder)
- Normal delivery - $1,430
- C section - $2,402

B) Estimated medical bill (For mummy portion only)

Private patient
A class ward (One bedder)
- Normal delivery - $5,123
- C section - $8,271

B1 class ward (4 bedder)
- Normal delivery - $3,980
- C section - $6,802

Medisave deduction are capped at $2,550 for normal delivery and $4,400 for C section.

After mummy discharge from hospital, hospital finance dept will do this. They will take the total medical bill minus medisave deduction capped minus initial deposit paid and then send the final outstanding amount bill to the patient home. In another words, there is no need to settle this outstanding amount before you leave the hospital

C) Estimated medical bill for baby

For mummy who are staying in A class ward, the baby medical bill will range between $500 to $2,500 (Note that baby ward status will follow mummy). Baby which is super healthy and strong will be paying closer to the $500 region and those which some complication will be closer to $2,500.

Medisave deduction of up to $450 allow for each day the baby stay in the hospital.

Baby medical bill will be send to your house, there is no need to settle the baby medical bill before going home.

Let use an example to help all of us understand the above better

Assumption:
Mummy is private patient, stay 3 day in A class ward and undergo an uneventful planned C section. Baby also stay in hospital for 3 days. Mummy and Daddy medisave account have sufficient fund. Below are the maths

Initial deposit payable ==> $3,871 (Must be pay in cash/credit card)
Mummy total medical bill ==> $8,271
Baby total medical bill ==> $2,500
Medisave deductible for mummy ==> $4,400
Medisave deductible for baby ==> $450 x 3 days ==> $1,350

Total medical bill for mummy & baby ==> $8,271 + $2,500 ==> $10, 771
Total medisave deductible for mummy & baby ==> $4,400 + $1,350 ==> $5,750

After medisave deduction, the total cash component for mummy & baby ==> $10,771 - $5,750 = $5,021

Hope the above can help fellow mummy & daddy plan their finance better and jointly make a final decision that the whole family can benefit the most out of it.

Jia you.

Oh ya, do not that even if you paid in advance and choose "A" ward, if right after your delivery there happen to be no available "A" ward, the hospital will put you in the B1 ward instead. Of cos the charging will automatically change to B1 ward charging. (The only place i know that will 100% have A ward available is MT E Novena hospital, it is located next to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the reason why they can give you this assurance is because i understand from a friend that they only have single bedder ward.)

Irene, when are you due?

Hi Mummies!
Wish I had discovered this thread earlier, haha! Thanks for all the good info! Here's what I have to share so far, up to week 29 now...

I am also under polyclinic referral-> KKH subsidised route, for high-risk pregnancy due to age/pre-existing hypertension/diabetes, and the care provided to me has been more than adequate :) agree that the wait time can be a little long, but if you are able to, pick an early morning slot and the wait time is significantly reduced to about 10-15mins for regular gynae consultations in clinic C.

However, coincidentally or not, since I switched to early morning slots, I have only encountered less senior gynaes with no observers. But as this was after 2nd trimester and my amnio returned comforting results, I am okay with that too. This is also because I have to see the diabetes and hypertension/pre-eclampsia specialist in clinic A every 3 weeks or so, and is usually the same doc unless she is called away, and the one time she was, I saw a different senior consultant as well.

Scans, detailed or otherwise were handled very respectfully and patiently by the technicians, and nurses in general were polite and friendly. Ditto for all counter staff I've encountered. In fact, cos hubby and I are from the "blur" tribe, we were often informed of subsidies and medisave/medishield options without any prompting. And also offered to have bills sent to us to avoid further queueing.

Scheduling wise, since I had to rotate between 4 areas monthly (regular scan, gynae, diabetic specialist, dietitian), they would always try to book same day for me subject to early booking and availability. Maybe things will change now that I am hitting 3rd trimester and appointments will be scheduled a little tighter?

That's all I can recall right now. Extra tests I have done so far:
ODAC (course for outpatient diabetic monitoring) - Medisave: $355.25
Amniocentesis - Medisave: $493.59

I have all my bills and will probably collate them just before I pop, if anyone is interested I'll share it then :)

Hi Mummies,

Anyone has experience with Dr Freda Khoo from TPS KKH. Care to share your experiences?
Any A class bill with Epi (2 nights stay) to share?

Many thanks!

Hello,

I am using KKH for the 1st time therefore does not have a gynac that i have personally successfully use to intro to your wife. Typical if you want someone senior to look after your wife. Then you should be looking for a gynac in KKH that is holding the title of Senior consultant, they of cos cost a little more and waiting time is typically longer a bit too.

If you compare KKH (private patient) vs TMC, the price difference will not be significant. You can go to MOH website to have a look, they made all the hospital to submit their actually bill and then collate it together. it is pretty updated and will give you a very good guide. Do note that the price collated is only the price of the delivery only, all the pre delievry check up cost have not been factor in.

All the best

Hi all,

Just received my final bill from KKH. Apart from the basic 2D1N package for a class A ward with Gyne Dr John Tee... We topped up approx $500 for my 4D3N stay with 3 epidurals and a 39hr labour.

HTH!

Thank you very much.

Hello mummy, did Dr Khoo only show up during the last 15min to deliever your baby or he will keep on coming to your labour suite throughout your struggle frequently to check on you personally or leave it just to the nurse to monitor you and report back to him? Thanks

Drew blood, put up the drip etc n settled me dwn before the nurses activated my gynae. At then, cervix alrdy opened about 5cm. Contraction was like every 2mins. Gynae arrived arnd 6plus and helped me with the delivery. Everything happened chop chop

2nd one after 15 years. Acty 2 days before my delivery, i had a cervix check n my cervix is still very thick and has yet to open. I went hm and squat by my bed about 10 mins for that 2 nights. Maybe that helped.

Is there any mummies that is delivering at C ward? If so, can anyone share details from bills to experience ? Its my first birth, and I am a little bit flustered.

Hello mummy, congrats, slight correction, you will still be delivery your baby in a delivery suite if you are going for natural method and operating theatre if you choose to C section. A class ward class patient will be using the exact same facility and medication too. The 3 difference are as follows:

1) You will not get to choose the doctor during your check up as well as the final delivery. In another words, they will just assign you to a qualified doctor who is on duty or free during your appt slot.

2) After you give birth, your baby will be staying in the same nursery as other baby and taken care the same way, however for you, you will be staying a ward that have a few more bed/patient. So it might be more lively and your ward will be filled with more laughter. Not a bad thing if you belong to the type of ppl that hate to sleep in a quiet environment

3) Your total hospital bill will be significantly lower then other folks because SG govt give the most subsidy to folks that stay in C ward. For estimate bill size, go to MOM website and they show pretty accurate figure there.

All the best

I was satisfied with KKH's C ward docs n nurses. The only difficulty encountered was that C ward's visitors were too many, too noisy. Some patients got the whole village ppl came and visited, many kids screamed n running around. Even after 10pm still many visitors in ward. Nurses tried to remind them to leave but they just ignored. Sigh....

Hi Mummies,

I am new to this forum. I am currently 24 weeks and I am with a private gynae. My initial plan was to do a normal delivery and give birth at Mount E Orchard but then due to some complications my gynae charges for c section is $5k and I find it steep. As the hospital packages for c section is also on the high rise. I am planning to change to a private gynae at kkh. Any recommendations? I called the hotline and the Lady mentioned to me about Dr khoo chong kiat. Any idea what are his charges like? Does the consultation price at kkh includes ultrasound? Or is it separate charges?

Also, anyone willing to share their bill size for Class A Delivery? After deduction of medisave etc.

My gynae is Dr Khoo Chong Kiat. Personally I am quite comfortable being seen by him. He is Pro-naturally too. Very positive and jovial gynae! :D

Consultation charges doesn't include ultrasound. Basically charges in KKH are all ala carte.

Hello mummy, 5K for C section is quite a normal price i think. Especially for private hospital and if you are a private patient in a govt hospital, i think the charges will not be very significantly different too.

Cost is an important element, the other element you should also consider is also how comfy & confident with the next gynac you decide to choose.

All the best.

I prefer TPS. Are u wt Dr Tan also? If yes then is only on Tues at TPS.

Yes. I'm with Dr Tan too. Just went to TPS for the very first time last week and found it much better than Clinic D. And Dr Tan doesn't have to go from room to room to see his patients. Not so rushed for him.

Cos his schedule there has been quite packed, I couldn't switch over earlier. Next appt I'll have to take an evening slot and pay the additional charge. =( Not sure if it'll be more difficult to make an appt in our third trim when we have to see him more often.
Heard that Dr Tan only sees patients at clinic D now. Is that true? Can i ask how is the waiting time to see him? And are the appts very rushed since he is so busy? Im considering whether to choose him as my gynae coz i was seeing him under the infertility clinic at kkh and quite like him.

Can also share how much are his charges for gynae appt and delivery? :)

Hi! I do know of some other IVF mummies-to-be that r seeing Dr Tan at TPS. However, he only sees patients at TPS on Tues afternoon. I was told that in second trimester, all appointments will be at TPS. One of the ladies in 2nd tri mentioned that she is still seeing Dr Tan in Clinic D though. U may want to check with the clinic staff regarding this when u r making ur appointment.

KKH has no package for gynae check-up and Dr Tan is senior consultant, so the rate per consultation will be the same as what we pay at Clinic D for fertility treatment. The waiting time at TPS is much shorter than clinic D. But again, it depends on his schedule that day. If he has to go away for delivery, then it'll be quite a long wait.

I personally feel that the consultation at TPS is less rushed. He was usually quite chatty. But the duration of each consultation depends on whether u have any questions to ask him and whether there r any areas of concern that need to be discussed. If baby n mummy are both well, then it'll be v short. He isn't a gynae that shares a lot of details which he thinks is not necessary and might cause us to be unduly worried. He only recommends what he thinks is necessary. That's his style. It really depends on which type of gynae u prefer. There are some gynaes that share a lot of details.

As for the delivery charges, I'm not sure if there's any difference in the various Kkh doctors' charges. I paid slightly less than $6k for natural delivery with epidural n one night stay at A1 ward.

Thanks very much for sharing, @Shinkirou. My appt with him is in 2 weeks time. Will check with the nurses again then.

If u r referring to Dr Tan HH. Consult fee same as clinic D. TPS more comfort. Sofa, less crowded n free drinks. Only available on Tues afternoon. Clinic D he is see patient on thur & fri morning. Clinic D assistant more friendly.
Thanks @piglet02 :) Havent been to Tps before coz always see him at clinic D. I agree his nurse is vv nice. Dr Tan's schedule is full until end july, and she squeezed me in for my 1st gynae appt in early july given my history.

Hi aaa111,

So you mean if I choose to be in A class or subsidise class, if my bb is in nicu no difference in their care ? Although we pay private rates for them?

TIA

Yup. There is no difference in care for babies being warded in nicu or high dependency ward. The charges are tagged to the class mummies have chosen.

Hello mummy,

As far as i know is no difference de. but i suspect if you are a private patient, you will be able to select a specific PD to look after your baby throughout his/her stay, however if you are a subsidy patient, the hospital will decide which PD will look after your baby and the PD who see your bb everyday might be a different one. (I am trying to apply the same concept/logic as a private vs subsidies mummy patient). Does it make sense to you?

NICU and high dependancy ward if i am not wrong only got one type each, no such thing as A, B or C ward de.
