Sharing a bad experience with confinement nanny Alicia Chan Sxxw Kxxg (690325-xx-xxxx) from Malaysia. I found her through the online nanny portal after seeing her job portfolios which looks great. However, I'd not recommend hiring through the site without actually talking to the mommies who posted job portfolio for references. Now looking at it, those reviews are very brief. While I hired her through the portal, I was told that my photos required nanny approval before they can be published as a job portfolio (of course she won't approve). As a result, all job portfolios show only good rating. The portal also earn commission for successful pairing. For better protection, you may want to hire through agency.

Worst of all, she broke the contract by leaving the job without an upfront notice, could not take feedback gracefully, and disclosed personal information about past clients without regard for their privacy.

Instead of supporting us, Alicia took advantage of our inexperience with confinement and baby care, provided minimum service with actions that were adverse to our newborn's well being. We only found out late in the confinement after sharing our experience with friends and families.

- Alicia's cooking was inconsistent, with some meals lacking proper nutrition and sufficient portions for a postpartum mother. For example, she once prepared a small 3-egg omelet (with nothing else!) as breakfast to be shared among herself, me and my husband.
- It was necessary to remind her that the contract included three proper meals a day. Fruits were only provided after we explicitly requested for it.
- Cooked a single batch of dessert and served it for up to 5 days.
- Did not consistently maintain kitchen cleanliness, especially the kitchen floor, requiring reminders.
- Disregard for established safety guidelines, such as co-sleeping with our swaddled newborn despite explicit requests from us to use the baby crib. She mentioned it's tiring to wake up and bring baby to the crib. This was especially concerning given that Alicia habitually drinks wine (she bought two bottles and had finished at least one of them), which is a known risk factor for SIDS.
- Neglect of proper baby hygiene, with unsafe "rinses" under the faucet instead of baths. On top of that, she gave various excuses to avoid giving the baby proper baths including tub size, inadequate bathroom alignment, absence of a standing tub, etc.
- Cleaned our newborn’s tongue and gum for weeks using tap water because she was too lazy to get drinking water from the kitchen.
- Put the baby down immediately after feeding which we observed through our baby cam (she denied this despite the evidence).
- Lack of proactive guidance and support, especially regarding breastfeeding. As a first time mother, I was hoping to have an experienced guide to support me in breastfeeding. But instead of discussing feeding plans that would align best with my goals, Alicia prioritized bottle feeding right after birth (which was more convenient to her), while doing little to help establish a stable breastfeeding relationship and milk supply. This became a major problem weeks later as our baby began to form a strong preference for bottles instead of nipples, and it was too late to correct.
- Additionally, Alicia's insistence on using a pacifier, despite its potential negative effects on breastfeeding, further demonstrated a disregard for the mother's needs and preferences.
