Alot of Users posting their businesses in YOUR FORUM

Hi Chin Leng,

In view of the points I have raised above, could you have a look at threads as these below and determine if they should be classified as business threads(read paid for) and not BPs(read free).

I understand you may not be familiar with the prices of such products. In short, Desitin costs USD4.49 (or SGD7.9 - google exchange rate) on drugstore.com and First Toothpaste at USD 3.99 (SGD5.32) but are marketed on these threads under the guise of BPs for SGD14 and SGD 12 respectively. There is a difference of between $6.50 and $7 for each product. Granted we have yet to add in shipping costs but the difference is too great for such lightweight products. Mums who have taken part in drugstore sprees said that the desitin costs less than SGD10.

The seller has professed in her threads that the goods take 2-3 weeks to arrive. That would mean they have been obtained from a source like drugstore.com or similar, as opposed to a local source.

If what I said is true, there appears to be some serious profiteering as this situation as been happening for some time, or in the seller's own words, "the threads HAD BEEN there from the beginning of the BP till now". In which case, I appreciate if appropriate actions be taken.

Thank you for your patience.

To add on,

I am also curious to the stand that the forum moderator will take in the event if one develops implications after consuming or applying anything that are obtained via 'as-claimed' bulk purchases or loose stocks from this forum and in which no means of receipt or forms of authenticity of the products are produced or obtained.

Till now, I still SHUDDER whenever I remembered the SLIM10 saga. Effects weren't felt instantly but only after prolonged or a certain period of usage...

Thank God, Andrea de Cruz has a loving husband...

Hi Amy,

I gather you are talking about the popular Herbal Tea, currently in its 6th BP.
http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/messages/449156/452598.html?1153670238

I have been wondering about the same. At the very least, the mums who have been purchasing and consuming it should know what goes into it, should the doctors ask, in case of complications. LOL.

I don't think Motherhood forum would like to be known as the marketplace of this dubious product should an "Andrea de Cruz" episode occurs.

P/S: there should be more Pierre Pngs around for this and other reasons.

The 'LOL' above was nervous laughter laced with fear and horror at that very thought of the mums actually comsuming such tea which as Amy Ang said, is not scientifically backed and bears no trace of purchase, except through this board...

Teta,

I'm one of the mums who bought from LL (First Teeth Paste and Brush). I didn't check out the "BP market rate" and thought it was a bargain (it's still a bargain at S$12 but a far cry from USD3.99).

Like you said "Those mums choose to pay you the price you quoted rather than save on the difference should they deal directly with drugstore, I say, their loss, your gain."

Leng Leng,
you should accept payment first before ordering and not place extra orders. But from what I read, you have LOTS of extras from your previous BP. Maybe you should be more careful. If you are indeed like what Teta says you are (in some "serious profiteering"), good luck to you.

Just my 2c worth...

Hi Leng Leng,

Perhaps you should not have made it crystal clear (in bold &/or coloured fonts) in your BPs/sprees that:

(1) Orders will be on a first PAYMENT first served basis.

(2) Other rules and regulations:
* Pls make your payment as soon as you confirm your order.
* NO Payment NO ORDER!

Those who read it assume orders will only be made when payment is received, hence there should not be extras, and if there are, they have already been paid for and should not be resold as they are not your property.

After the SLIM10 & Andrea De Cruz saga, I think it should make us be more cautious about such health products. Even when buying calcium tablets now, I check with the pharmist first.

Ladies, health is very important. Forget about taking health stuff to lose weight or detox without any doctor's advice.

Hi,

So sorry if I offended anyone,

I am not selling any business here, just want to get rid my used & un-used items. Just like everybody in the WTS Forum.

Business means selling multiple items such 100pcs stock of the same kind and i am not.

Hope u won't mistaken it.

hi jubjub, just kpo abit... since i also interested in the things you sell... but noted that you have put a "advertisement" for the rental of stall.. maybe you want to remove it off...

anonymous,
it's really sad that indeed there are members here, taking this board for 'granted'.

the forum owner has set the rules and members should obey the rules.
MODs do have their own lives to live... family, works, kids, etc... and yet they try as much to keep this board "clean & neat" on whatever time they have, but many a times, people just "forget" to read the rules... and as such when they get 'suspended' they want an explaination...
before a member signs up, one is suppose to read the T&C: http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/terms.htm

when doing a spree, details need to be included, etc... from what source is the product from, what company, range of prices list (would be helpful too) so that these info could avoid MODs from "suspecting" the spree is a personal gain biz.

Hi all,

We would like to thank all for the feedback and comments we've received.

We've been struggling with the increase traffic generated from the threads in Marketplace and Exchange Corner. It has gotten worse as there are members who abused our resources and started running a business and earning profit by operating through the forum. It has become very difficult for us to detect them as these members have learnt to phrase their wordings very carefully. Instead of spending our time and effort in developing the portal, we've spent much time in trying to weed out these threads.

In order to reduce the number of threads, we had thought of charging a $10 fee per listing for a 7-day period. We introduced this method as we wanted to have a simple method to operate the marketplace. With this method, we wouldn't need to investigate whether someone is profiting from the forum. We also thought mummies will be consolidating their items together to share the $10 fee thereby helping to reduce the number of threads.

Please do not think that we are trying to profit from this method. If we had wanted to, the fee would be much lower. However, our intention was really to create a small but easy to overcome barrier in the marketplace which will help to reduce the number of threads.

I hope everyone understands that we have operating costs in running the portal. To ensure that the forum is fast even with large number of postings, we need to have a dedicated server. As the forum has large number of postings per day, the bandwidth consumption is also large. Imagine 2 staffs of $2.5k salary per month and a bandwidth costs of $1k per month, our operating costs will easily be ($2.5x2x13 + $1x12)=$77k and I've not included CPF and other operating costs!

For long term members, you would remember that we've spent much effort in building up the forum. Remember we had to shift the forum twice? Remember the error "Too many connections" error? We had spent months of effort to rectify it.

It was disappointing to say the least to see the reactions of some members. A member whom we had helped had taken an opportunist approach and setup a competitive forum. We are sorry but it is only common sense and right that we won't allow the promotion of other forum in our site. We have took years and effort to build our own traffic so of course we wouldn't allow anyone to leech on our traffic.

After receiving feedbacks from various members, some had felt that genuine mothers had been penalised due to members who abused the forum. Please do not misunderstand, it was never our intention to penalise any parents. As such, we are willing to try another alternative method which we were considering.

The new requirements are as follows:

1. No listing fees will be levied on genuine members. All new threads in marketplace (except for free items) can now only be created by members with 100 or more postings. Messages made in marketplace will not be considered and the 100 messages cannot be messages posted just to make the numbers. Any members found to have violated the terms will have the thread removed and account suspended immediately.

2. Businesses who wish to promote or sell their products can ONLY do so by posting in Marketplace & Exchange Corner (For Business) at a fee of $20 per 7-day period.

It'll be a manual effort in ensuring the above conditions as the forum software does not allow us to have a pre-set condition for posting. We hope everyone will help by pointing out offending threads and users to us. <font color="ff0000">Please also help by volunteering as moderators</font>.

Please feel free to give us your thoughts and comments here.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all members who have supported us throughout this period. Thank you!

Regards,
Chin Leng.

anonymous,
Jasmum is just trying to help out the moderators. It shouldn't matter whether she's a 'sanctioned' moderator or not. She's just trying to point out suspect threads and helping out when she can. Please don't login a new account just to flame other members.

FYI, multi nicks for 1 person are not encouraged either in this forum.

Jasmum, I'm sure the mods appreciate your efforts, since they've taken action as most of the threads are gone!

Just a suggestion to single out biz from real BP organisers

All real BP organisers should be able to state at least a company website will full pricing details or the full company address with contact details (e.g contact person's name and number). Anyone should be able to contact the company to verify the price.

Since real BP organisers are not profitable, they should not mind other people contacting the supplier.

Organising a BP is a logistics nightmare. It's hard to imagine why anyone will go thru the trouble of organising among some 20+ pple without profitting anything.

So,perhaps the mods could impose a limit on number of people or value of each BP. Any threads that does not meet these requirements will just be removed.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi Mymomento,

Thanks for the suggestion. There have been many ideas suggested and we apologise that we have not been able to find time to make implement some of the changes. Currently, we are busying ourselves with the possible further upgrading of the server. As some of you may have noticed the increased number of new messages (about 5000+ in the last 24 hours) in the forum.

I'm sorry if we've not been as responsive as we would like to some of your queries. We are trying very hard to solve many issues at the moment.

Regards,
Chin Leng.

Leng Leng

I have highlighted this thread to CL weeks ago but the thread still survives.

Guess he must have been very busy...
