Hi Eve,
I am thinking of getting a Myanmar maid. How is the after sales service of United Channel? I have some qns:
1. Are they helpful when you have problems with your maid?
2. I understand that the boss is a Myanmese.Does she side the maids when the employer has complains about the maid?
3. Any bad experience with them so far?
4. Do you have problem communicating with your maid during the initial period?
5. How is your maid so far?

For my maid,i give a box of teabag & told her that she shld tak 1 teabag per day.She is very skinny & doesn't eat a lot.But she only works wf me for 3days,i don't know her "true colour" yet.
I oredi told her tat she can eat whatever is given but cannot tak our food.I dislike maids which had requests here & there.My prvious maid,6yrs ex-SIN,rejected the teabag & breads which I given to her.She rather hungry than eat breads for b/fast.I sent her back after 2weeks.

forgot to tell you abt the bond.
Are you aware that when you hire a maid, you have place a $5000 security bond with the govt? In the event that the maid is pregnant or run away( cannot be found), the money will be forfeited. There is an insurance to purchase for this bond, which means you fork out a lot less money than $5000. This is the bond insurance. It is not compulsory to purchase. But personally i prefer to do so. At least i know that if the maid really get into some real serious trouble, i won't have to pay $5000 to the govt for something that i am not responsible for. The insurance company will look into the compensation... $53.50 vs $5000...it's really worth it, at least to me...

Chole, hm…you meant you want to speak to the ex-employer of the trf maid? I guessed they most probably won’t have bad comments because they want the maid to be trf. else they will be paying the levy for the period till the maid get trf to a new employer. My maid also likes to stay in the toilet especially when my baby is sleeping. Every time I look for her, she is in the toilet, I wonder what she does in there. My sis also ask if she has kidney problem..

I got PH maid who are married with kids to look after my baby, I find they can deliver with minimum supervision, they like to be clean too but some got attitude problem after they work for some time. I saw frens with Indo maid, hardworking but slow..if you can't speak their language then got problem. Of course there are exceptional cases, I guessed it really depend on our luck to get a good maid. Even the high end agency cannot promise the maid they supply are good.

initial I bought her a bottle nescafe(which we dont drink coffee,so only buy for her)..then I realise she dont drink..yet have her own 3in1 coffee(no off day,mean she went to buy her own coffe when ferrying my kids).. so I asked her how come she dont drink the coffee I bought..she said too heaty,she prefer those packet,more suitable/her preference..
I buy the one she like, which is super 3in1 instant coffee(48sachets per bag), she drink like no tomorrow..each cup she used 2sachets..I bought 2bags(48x2=96sachets,which is actually 96cups)for her 1mth supply, with super instant cereal choc n vanila (2bags= 40sachets)..yet her coffee run out so fast.. if I dont supply her enough of coffe,she will go out with my bb,without my permission..and she actually hide her coffee in her cabinet.
Maid is very stubborn, I told her why coffee is not healthy to our body..she has her 101 reason she need it..just like her hp,cant live without it..dont know why her business so big..
Every now n then she will come out with new pattern.. I use4d to concern abt her,ask if she take her meal,tell her to sleep early(she like to wake up mid nite do hse work,which is too noisy,make us awake)..till I so sian,and rather let her do whatever she like..I just keep quiet,since she dont listen..

This evening, I came back from work n brought my girl back from cc..as usual eat dinner..right after I finish my meal..she is trying to pack all the food..

Maid: reply with black face,want me to work and dont let me eat,what if I faint?

I saw my maid just let bb cried,I asked why u didnt put bb back to sleep?(on the same time,I carried bb to room put bb back to sleep)maid reply(blame my boy), boy that wake bb up(actually,my boy wake up 6am..need to school,bb also wake up but not enough sleep..so maid just bochap..)..see when problem arise she bochap.
Another morning, I told maid to add chinese sausage(pork,maid dont eat) into fried rice for IL's n kids dinner..I went out..before dinner I came back,I saw the chinese sausage soak in water,with oily used cutleries..I immediately, remove the sausage n asked maid why? maid reply, boy is the one that put in used cutleries.I'm so angry..even if my boy do so,she should immediately do something about it..imagine the sausage become so soft and she is not eating so dont bother?? lucky I came back and saw that..my boy said,he didnt know maid soak sausage..he just asked kakak what is that in the water..but kakak didnt answer,so he tot a dirty pot with unfinish food in the sink.
I wonder why she dont appreciate, when I'm so lenient with her work(let her do her own schedule,as she used to said bb causing inconvenient,sometime take longer time to put her to sleep/long feeding hours so cant really follow timetable), tolerate her attitude, paying all her daily neccesaties(she dont have to pay a cent).. yet she is not happy,most of the time..black face.. even with my in laws,at home..she also black face,keep quiet(no noice response/talk to my bb,this is feedback fm my IL,maid tot my IL too old/stupid..just ignore)..
I must thank God, maid's matter really train me to be a better employer next time, to stay calm, to see thru maid's pattern/trick/acting. I pray God send me the right helper.

I have not encountered any problems with my maid at the moment as she is with me for only 2 mths. Can't answer Q1 - Q3.
I have no problem communicating with her as she knows English & Mandarin.
No complains abt her working attitude. She is able to my handle my kids. She teach my kids how to read & write ABCs/nos,read/play with them.

No,I do not mean transfer maid, but maids that are over in their country and is coming over singapore to work, that is the staff there allow us to interview the employer before we bring the maids over. My friend did that few years ago with the agent and the maid is really good, patience and obedience. Now, the agent ask my friend to source elsewhere as the quality of maids these days are really bad.

I really pei fu u... I think i wld have screamed the whole hse down if my maid behave this way. But i on the other hand, am so frustrated wif these maids' nonsensical behaviours.. i ended doing many things on my own. Like i will NEVER, NEVER allow my maids to prepare any food. Simple things like making tea for hb, she can use likewarm water or water that is not boiled yet in the thermos. When u questioned her, she will either give u the "i forget lor, wat u wan me to do" or give excuses like "tea too hot, sir will not be able to drink".
Even preparing her own meals on weekends when i bring all my kids out n allow her to concentrate on the hsehold chores, she can make a big mess. Oil everywhere, and used up what ever condiments, foods that she wanted. Even though certain food i have told her specifically not to use bcos i bought it to prepare certain special dishes.
AS for the extreme drinking of coffee. Yes, they do it this way bcos they feel they deserve it. They feel they had a hard life back home n this country is too rich. These maids therefore feel they deserve to eat n drink n even waste food... Things that they will never even dream of doing back home. My 1st maid day 1 already threw away the whole portion of vegetables dish in the food i have deliberately bought for her from a Muslim stall. Tell me she dun eat vegetables!!!! But she Indo Muslim, can eat pork.
2nd one, tell me she cannot eat egg.. When actual fact she cannot eat prawns n crabs, or else rashes n swollen lips n eyes. Refuse all egg stuff like omelette, sunny side up or nasi lemak egg... But can eat finsh one whole butter cake, can eat chao kway tiao n another INdo muslim that can eat pork n insist eating seafood then blame the food got egg that's why she kenna rashes!!!! She will also ka-po, and opened up things in the fridge including my ice wine in the fridge...
3rd one strictly no pork... but oso dun eat veges.. will always say my daughter cannot finish her food like pancake, kuehs n all.. then she will get to finish them up.

Yes. My last maid loves to go to the toilets. That's why i hate to bring her out wif the kids. Gives me more trouble bcos i need to help her look for toilet every half n hr, be it whether the place convenient or not. A couple of times, when i'm out wif my SIL, she told me she witnessed the maid combing n tying her hair for a very long time in the public toilet while i am all alone outside waiting for her n holding on to my 2 toddlers...

Yes. My last maid loves to go to the toilets. That's why i hate to bring her out wif the kids. Gives me more trouble bcos i need to help her look for toilet every half n hr, be it whether the place convenient or not. A couple of times, when i'm out wif my SIL, she told me she witnessed the maid combing n tying her hair for a very long time in the public toilet while i am all alone outside waiting for her n holding on to my 2 toddlers...
When i confronted her n ask her what is wrong wif her.. Does she have kidneys problem. She say she all along like this.. I was so angry.. I told her off to find an employer who can let her go toilet every half n hr...

Hi Amlamum ,how long does it takes to employ a maid?is it 1 mth ? needs tips to select the maid biodata ? is it better to get a maid with experience who have work in s'pore before or have work at other country as a maid .Usually, is it better to get a married or single for a maid to take of baby ? Frankly, i'm scare to have a maid but there is no choice as no one can help me to take of my baby as hubby and i are working on shift.

Anyway, agent recommended 2 Indons. Her name is Susi axx, 26 & single but has 3yrs of experience each in Saudi looking after 5 kids & Taiwan looking after an elderly. While the latter has no experience at all. I'm really curious, y tis Susi axx wanna come to Sin if she already choke up "so" much experience in Saudi & Taiwan ? Tot the salary in these both countries pays more ????? Should hop to HKG & not Sin liao. Fishy rite ?

Nellu, can share why you decide on more expensive medical package for your new maid? Is the coverage better? I was thinking not to pay the bond insurance if I get a new maid cos’ I am ok if they wants to leave then there is no reason they will run away…

Sorry, didn’t see your post to me. If the maid have ready passport, they can come faster, usually agency will say it takes 3 to 4 weeks. I think written biodata not trustable.. I heard some look different from the photo too. Think best if you list out your requirement and what you emphasize then ask the agency to shortlist a few for your selection. I personally don’t like maid who have past working experience in Sgp and other cty cos’ they tends to have more requests and difficult to control. When I just had my BB, I chose PH maids who are married with kids and find they can do the job. No problem in taking care of BB, bathing, feeding, washing etc and I asked my confinement lady to teach her cooking, can pick up fast, cleanliness also no problem but except I heard some PH maid very rough on kids. Now I am not so worried cos’ BB older not so fragile like new born. Maids with kids tends to have home sick but they work hard to earn $ cos’ of their commitment. My neighbour maids who are single can be ‘qiao’ and always look forward for fun during off-days and they are not so patient with kids. I think quite true cos’ when I was single I also cannot stand kids screaming, become more patient only after I have my bb. True for me that my maids don’t give me problem at the first few months but later all the pattern come out. That’s why, I will never get an ex-Sgp maid and will change my maid every 2 years when their contract is up. I treated my first maid very good, praise and give her reward often and tolerate her nonsense too cos’ scare she takan my baby and later all her pattern came so for subsequent maid, I treat them normal and told them we have to establish good relationship to work together and don’t have to make trouble for me cos’ they can go if we cannot get along and I can easily get other maids to work for me.

sigh... all the maid problem. I din come here for quite some time and now i'm here to vent about my maid.
1. she very kpo. When we (family) talk, she always purposely walk in and out to hear what we say.
2. when she knew we plan to go out, she keep asking where and when and what time we coming back.
3. she very defensive. When we asked her about something, she always defense herself first. A recent case, she told my mil that my girl has a red patch on her hand, and my mil checked and say but just now din see it. Maid replied, so you are refering that I'm the one who did it? Mil got angry with her accusation and told her "if you want to work, work properly, if don't want, just tell us. Then that day, she was very hardworking.
4. no sense of hygiene. She leaves all my kids water bottles, milk bottles and pacifier at the basin for wash. And we caught her a few times, leaving the pacifier uncapped at the basin and touching the drainage hole. She peel and cut fruits, serve without rinsing the fruits. She cut chicken and put to boil soup without rinsing as well. And worst still, she always scratch her backside while doing housework, cooking or whatever, then continue with her work!
5. Very fake too. As in you can see that she is doing because she needs to show you. But behind your back, she do her own ways thinking we will not see it. Parrot talks after us, as in, when we are around and see our kids doing something funny, we will call them out to stop them, and she will always be echo-ing behind us to call them too. But never before us.
6. show temper. If we were to tell her something that she did wrongly, or remind her of, she will "ok ok" behind you but never bother to take a look or stop her work to listen. Worst still, will throw things into the bin hard enough to hear a bang, swing open the door hard enough for the umbrella to dropped, or hide in the room and pretend never hear you and lastly, tearing with red eyes and nose.
7. Untidy. everything we buy back, if we leave on the floor for 10 days, it will be there for 10 days. If we buy groceries, she will just dumped into the cupboard wherever got space. If my kids do bring out any toys, after they kept, she will not bring back to the cupboard to keep. Even after I clear my shopping items and purposely leave the empty paper bag on the chair, she will still leave it there for days till I ask her to clear.
I really don't know what she is trying to do. So sick and tired of their nonsense.

Amlamum - i've numerous maids before and 2 of them chose to run away rather than tell me they dont want to work for us anymore - although right from the start, I am open to them, dont like to work, just say. I didnt buy the bond protector as well, but luckily they didnt run away to be a prostitute...But I have heard of cases that the maid runs away and employer got fined - then few years down the road, the police found her in Geylang..so such unlucky things can still happen.
I also noticed that in train stations, there are pics of pple who gone missing - some of those look quite like maids to me....

Dunno what's with my maid. She ironed my hb's surf shorts. My hb saw it and said the more this maid work the more blur she became. In Hokkien, lu zo lu blur.. This is not the first time the maid has washed this shorts and she has NEVER iron before. But this morning my hb saw it hang together with my ironed bermudas.

I WANT her to be clean. I DON'T WANT my boy to touch and play with her dirty hair when she is carrying him. She has to keep herself clean. I also told her that if she is not willing to wash her hair everyday, I will bring her to the hairdresser and snip off her hair as short as it can.
After that, I told my mum to observe her for 2 weeks to check whether she washes her hair.
Never in my life I have seen such DIRTY person. I really cannot imagine a person who perspire everyday don't wash their hair. Can u imagine how smelly it can be???? Only beggars can't afford to wash their hair everyday.

Hiya, maids always comes out with all sorts of excuse one lah. last time I got 1 phil maid tell me cannot eat cabbage, cause eat already will have thyriods. Then another phil maid dont' eat capsicum, says spicy! crazy excuse when I eat them raw in my salad.
Eileen, I cannot tahan everything. Finally spoke to Angeline and today she got time to hear me out lah. Says we too nice and relax on her, so she climb up our head already. I told her last night when I feed my girl medicine, my girl push out and dripped all over her pyjamas. I was screaming like mad, trying to find hankie to wipe her, take off her clothes and bring her to toilet to wash up, the maid continues her ironing in the room without even peeping out to see if I need her help. Damn hot.
Over the weekend, she say she want to use my sarong sling, I ask her why and she says raining days, if she carry my girl and got to hold umbrella, then if my girl fell how? (I actually felt threaten by her reply) But anyway, I said ok, then you use on raining days only cause the sarong sling actually too small for my girl already, as those are with sizing one, not those adjustable type like the MIM one. And I told her I will teach her before she use it. But on Monday, she told my mil "mam says I can use" when I haven't even taught her how to use it. My mil said that she prefers to use the stroller, but the maid says she will use the sling, and my mil just silently allowed don't want to create problem. I told mil that I mentioned to her before use only when raining but the next day, big hot sun she wants to use also, my mil say mam say don't use if not raining and she unhappily said "don't use don't use lah" then throw the sling on the chair.
She hor think we all stupid, never communicate or what to believe in everything she says.

Very uncomfortable to me...in fact when I see other people letting their maids carry their babies in the sling, i get abit irritated and wonder why they want to give such 'opportunities' to the maids to foster a close bond with the child...somemore hold so close in the sling also not say very hygenic leh.. ourselves are ok cos it's our own children but with a stranger like a maid, not even our own family members leh...You dun feel uncomfortable meh?!
And yes i agree that the maids all come up with stupid excuse. My 2nd ex maid claimed that she dun eat chicken. But there was one day we had guests and we just ordered pizza. One of them got chicken and she still ate!! Rubbish lor!

The package i opted for not only give higher coverage for hospitalisation, i also get levy and income compensation for everyday that the maid is in hospital up to 60days in a year. I think it's worth considering. you'll never know what kind of situation the maid might get into.

I agreed with you about the sling baby on maid body part.Today I saw one maid did that, and the young madam and the mum is like sway here and there with the maid with the baby sling on and walk behind.....Think madam feel proud and walk with wind....I do not see in that light...
Dont know why, I always feel that most maids have got this sweat smell and I will never allow my maid to sling my baby...and I have never allowed maid to push my baby stroller too as if anything happen, they will not be responsible in that action and I just do not want that what if to happen....
I agreed with you about the sling baby on maid body part.Today I saw one maid did that, and the young madam and the mum is like sway here and there with the maid with the baby sling on and walk behind.....Think madam feel proud and walk with wind....I do not see in that light...

i also don't allow my maid to push the stroller. I had a few incidents with my 2nd ex-maid which made me very determined never to let them touch my kid unless necessary.
1. My boy was only 5mths, and could really sit up so well yet. My ex maid, from behind my boy, release the seat belt of the stroller. My boy nearly slipped out from the stroller. Was very very mad at her for that! luckily i was just next to the stroller and could catch my boy in time.
2. We were heading to the supermarket near my plc. so we walked. And since it was a short trip i did not need to bring the baby bag. So my ex maid volunteered to push the stroller. I let her o/w she'll look like she's the Ma'am and I the maid. But when we got to the traffic junction, she pushed the stroller very very near to the edge of the pavement. I nearly died at that moment. Because it was a major traffic junction and historically many rather serious accidents had happened there before. But I was more appalled that this stupid maid had no sense of safety being a mother of three herself. From then, it was very clear to me that this maid is very selfish. VERY VERY selfish!
so mummies, better think twice trice even 1000 times...my 2nd exmaid even under supervision can do things like that, I can't imagine what she would do if there was no one to supervise her.

Hi Nellu, I am reluctant to let her use the sling, very very reluctant in fact. It wasn't the first time she asked until she mentioned about raining days and holding umbrella that I gave in. Cause my girl is already 2+ yo attending Pre-N and it's quite a distance to walk. Of course my mil is always around, but she got back problem, so cannot carry my girl too long, that's why the maid is ask to carry my girl. My girl can be quite strong if she struggles while carrying her and with another umbrella in hand, I agree it can be quite dangerous. So I gave in, and stated that ONLY on rainy days. But obviously, she decide to go against my will by not telling my mil about my restriction w/o knowing that my mil was being informed about it.
About the stroller, I also never let my maid push. Maybe when I need to pick phone calls or what, but I hang on to the stroller 99% of the time. Even when we go grocery shopping, my hub or me will push the trolley instead of the maid if my kids were in it.
My maid is also married with a 2 yo kid, but yet, from what we all observe, she is not those kind or love children sort. On her 1st week with us, she act smart and want to buckle my girl on her car seat which ended up clipped on her thigh with a big bruise. But her facial expression was like, "oh, ok" without feeling remorse.

After having had so many maids before (I've had 6) I am quite paranoid about them...when I read your post first thing that came into my mind was "psycho killer". Like when she clipped your girl's thigh with the car seat strap and no remorse and kpo all the time and not washing your food....and untidy and how come she doesn't clean up rubbish and fold shopping bags or stack the pantry and fridge neatly?? I've had a dirty maid before and I really felt like spraying her with Baygone....
Nellu, I'm sure you will understand the horror feeling when recalling previous bad maids...just makes my hair stand on end...*shudder*
