2016/11 (Nov) babies

Hi! Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on or past experience with Dr Irene Chua or Dr Goh Shen Li, am trying to find a gynae. :) Thanks in advance.

I'm with Dr Irene Chua! She's a very friendly gynae and I feel very comfortable with her, maybe also because I prefer younger gynaes as we can relate better.
I also like that she's not the pantang kind (e.g. no issues with trips to Japan, or eating cooling food - it's all up to your comfort level), heheh.
She did a good job with the stitches for my #1.

However, it might be difficult to get an appointment soon if it's your first consultation with her as her schedule is very packed. For my current pregnancy I had to visit her partner, Dr. Jonathan Wee, first for my first consultation until my next appointment with her this coming Friday. He's quite ok actually :)

May I know what is the range of consultation fees (including ultrasound) with Dr. Irene?

Omg. I have like 3 weddings to attend in the next 2 months so I think I better check too.. I didn't know that people have this belief.. Thanks for highlighting!!

I don't remember the costs for first consultation, but subsequent consultations were at $90 and scans at $60. But note that this is 2014 prices, so it MAY have increased! It's best to give the clinic a call. I'll only be there on Friday ;)

That is what i gathered too. will be dutied doctors. So, even if ended up opting from private doctors in KKH, will not have subsidies anymore. anyone else having the similar information?
For monthly check up no subsidies, so all go through private rates. Medicines and wards are in subsidies though as that's consider under government. Unless pregnancy need special care or referral from polyclinics then will get a fixed gynae at subsidies rate. The nurses told us waiting time may be shorter too.

Hi all,

tested positive just a week ago. Haven seen gynae yet. Is my number 2. Very nice to know all the Nov babies mummies here.

:) hi everyone
I just tested positive a few days ago after I missed my period for a week. Based on my last period, my edd is 27th Nov 2016.

This will be my second child, my first one is already 8 years old! We have been trying to conceive for 12 months and finally! I'm really happy but also nervous at the same time as I'm well aware that the rate of miscarriage increases with age. I'll be 35 years old in November.

I'm now fighting with fatigue and sleepiness. Will be going for my pre-natal check in three weeks' time (around week 8).

Happy to chat with any mummies here who wants to share your pregnancy journey. Looking forward to this wonderful community of Nov/16 mummies. May all your pregnancies be healthy and wonderful!

Thanks!!! Appreciate your valuable advice!!

But I heard that we won't get a fixed doctor in government hospital is it?

My friend recommended Thompson. Is it a good choice?

Hello, You are correct. You will not get a fixed doctor in govt hopsital IF you want subsidy status, if you are willing to pay full price, i.e. private patient status, then you are allow to select any doctor of you choice, of cos the doctor also have right to decline you as his/her patient ya.

Put it this way, unless your case is ultra rare & complicated which of cos we hope not to be, the chance of being look after by a more junior doctors is very high, junior doctor does not mean lousy or unqualified doctor ya. They also pass all their required examination before they are deployed. If your pregancy is a very smooth & normal case, the chance of a senior doctor to attend to you is very low. The simple reason is that the senior doctor typically already have a steady stream of clientale (Private patient status) and have very little time to leftover. The reverse is true, if your case is very rare and complicated, even if you are a subsidies patient, you will be look after by a senior doctor even if your status is subsidise because the junior doctor may not have sufficient experience and confident to attend to you and therefore refer you upwards to their senior doctors who will make time to attend to you. (Logical & fair?)

Jia you.

My 1st child is delivery at Thomson medical center, i personally will not go back again or/and reccommend anyone that i care about to go there. Then again, i must stress that everyday, there are many many happy, successful, uneventful delievery that happen at Thomson Medical center.

Hi all, just found out I'm pregnant few weeks back. Been searching online for information on "Where to go after you've peed on a stick and it was positive" but it seems everyone just jumps from that to immediately ---> looking for a gynae / which hospital to deliver in / signing up for antenatal packages. I was like whoa whoa whoa let's not jump the gun here. All I wanted was to find out if Baby's really in there (you know, like not ectopic or molar pregnancy). I've miscarried before in second trimester, so I just want to see the little thing and hope it's fine, you know? I just want an ultrasound scan, that simple. I called KKH TPS and they pretty much said, if you're not looking for a gynae, you just want to see your baby, you might as well just go to the polyclinic. I called some private gynaes but the charges were all way too ridiculous, not to mention you have to book at least 3 weeks in advance (feels like how some people book their wedding venues 3 years in advance).

I called up SingHealth to make sure they were able to do all of it at one location, they recommended Geylang Polyclinic as it has a radiology department and the facilities to do such ultrasounds. Ok, great! With that assurance, we went, excited for our first appointment to see Baby. 7 hours and a $80 bill later (for blood tests, whoa are they expensive), we're finally told that polyclinics don't do ultrasounds anymore, and we're referred to KKH like in 2 weeks' time. To go through all that stress for nothing, is really not worth it. So I just wanted to put this little warning up, if you're expecting to see your baby at the polyclinic, nope, not gonna happen. Save your 7 hours.

From one who has a miscarriage before, I wouldn't try going to subsidized doctors because I believe the service given to me would be subsidized as well.

My first scan with Dr Ben went well, thankfully, with the bill around $350. Due to see him again next week. But to be honest, I'd rather be paying that $350 to ensure my baby is doing OK and to let myself know that I am in good hands.

After losing one baby, you'd rather be spending thousands to be so sure that your baby is sticking with you.

I saw 3gynaes during the pregnancy that I miscarried at 8wks and through this honestly, a gynae can either make you or break you. First gynae (TMC) I saw told me at 5wks that I 'most likely' miscarried. 2nd gynae (Raffles) did a scan and found a heartbeat at 5wks. Can you imagine if i removed my baby after seeing the 1st gynae and not go for 2nd option? 2wks later 2nd gynae said growth stop. 3rd gynae (TMC) said the same and no hb but prescribed me duphaston and prostergone jab for one last hope. Now that I'm pregnant again, I chose to stick with the 3rd gynae who gave me hope and assurance that I'd be just fine.

Dr Ben gave me a jab and I'm now on duphaston and that pill is seriously driving me nuts. I'm gagging all the time and can only take in about 2mouths of food per meal. Hopefully the 1st trimester passes soon!

Hello,

Medical bill in SG is not the cheapest on the planet especially this is pretty much a specialised field. After the DIY test kit, the immediate next step should be go to your preferred family GP to do a urine test to confirm your pregancy. If you prefer to have a ultrasound scan done, then you might at least go to those specialist woman clinic such as Raffles woman clinic or/and Thomson woman clinic, there is higher chance of them having a ultrasound machine. Incidentally, ig you are at very very early stage of preggy, you might not even want to waste $$$ to do ultrasound beco might only see a sac and then they will ask you to come back soon for more blood test cum scan.

I just had to say, I AGREE! faced similar too, except I went to KKH aka subsidized. Gynae basically told me "o well, if you're going to miscarry, you will. No need to come back unless you're bleeding/in so much pain you're going to faint." Bad experience at the follow up checkup (3 weeks later) also.

Now I'm also with a TMC Gynae, much better. And yes, Duphaston, ughhhh

Hello mummy. So sorry to hear your horrible experience. IF what you type is word for word that that idiot gynac say. He/she is not worthy to even wash toilet in the wards, because i am sure the aunty that is cleaning the ward know how to speak more diplomatically them him/her.

I wish you a happy, success & uneventful delivery at TMC.

Jia you.

Congrats all mummies!
I tested positive on 13 Mar, went for my first appt at KKH TPS at 5wks. See an empty sac too... Going for the next appt 2 wks later, hope to hear the baby's hb :)

Please add me into the fb secret grp: [email protected]

Hi mummies here, i am currently at 5 weeks plus, edd on 1st December but could be earlier like end Nov. Went for gynae checkup tis morning. Quite disappointed as couldn't find the sac coz could be still in the early stage of pregnancy. Gynae assures tat i m pregnant as i had missed my period for 1week.. i am still quite worried. Made another appt 2 weeks later. Hopefully can see the sac and hear baby heartbeat. Really cant wait for the 2 weeks to faster arrive..

Hellos! I tested positive 2 weeks ago and had gynae checkup last week. My first baby and feels so surreal although the scan shows the sac and the heartbeat! My Edd is 3 Dec 16 but I heard that first time mothers tend to go into labour earlier? So might be end Nov baby too. Can add me (yeeyingmin.evelyn@ gmail. com) into Facebook group too?

Anyone staying in the West? Hehe Im at West side and I'm seeing Dr. Tho from Astra Women's Clinic.

Hi Mums,

Is there anyone here going for OSCAR? My Dr. Asked me if I want to and I just said yes (I was clueless and Dr. Was in a rush). But, honestly I am not sure if it is necessary as this is my first pregnancy and I'm 27y/o. I'm scheduled to have it next week at Thomson. It's OSCAR + 20th week scan package. I'm kinda confused if I should go or not. I was informed that the package costs around 500+.. Makes me think even more. I know I'll be keeping the baby no matter what, anyway.

I hope someone here can enlighten me or share their knowledge about these tests. Thank you and safe pregnancy to all :)

almost all of my mummy frn did Oscar at 12 week...but I think no test I 100% accurate.. detail scan at week 20 perhaps tell a clearer picture? I am also not sure on all these... cox I am also expecting my 1st.. hehe... but I will be doing harmony test in my 12 week (29yo here) ... just to play safe.. cox I am on medication during my early pregnancy (which I did not know I was pregnant) and I scare that the med I took will harm my bb...

When I was in my 1st pregnancy at 18yo, I still went ahead with oscar.. just in case.

I'm 26 now with my 3rd pregnancy (2nd preg ended in a miscarriage) and same been given the option to do either oscar / panorama + 20 wks detailed scan + some scan that detects high blood or something. I'm damn confused too haha!

My gynae just told me that these tests are 一分钱一分货. So the higher you pay the better the accuracy of these tests. I should be going for the panorama test + 20 wks detailed + the high blood test which is gonna cost a total of about 2.1k just to be very very safe.

so meaning.. after the first test at week 12... week 20 detailed scan is another major hurdle? I am looking forth yet very worried abt week 12 test and week 20 scan...

If i'm not wrong.. based on the pamphlets given to me - wk 12 test is more for down syndrome. week 20 detailed scan is to check the spines etc to see if any birth defects and also if you didn't choose to do the panorama test and if your gynae hasn't been able to tell the gender of the baby then you'll be able to know during that scan.

Oh... ok.. even after reading the pamphlets.. I was like.. not completely sure.. and I was busy crying in the gynae ofc... (cox I was too touched when I hear bb heartbeat...) LOL.... now I know better.. thanks Cress for the info.

I'm just a bit scared to do oscar since i read that sometimes results are fake positive. I can't imagine the stress that would cause me and the baby too

Yes.. I heard abt the false result thing... but I already decide to do harmony test...

If you're not comfortable with the kind of range results Oscar gives, consider going for Harmony or Panorama?
*TOUCHWOOD*Should the results be unfavorable, it gives you more time to research and be better prepared on caring for your baby. :)
