(2011/01) Jan 2011

ivftwins,

In my personal opinion, if you have attended Mrs Wong's classes, then no need to waste time to go Doc's talk at SCGS. Coz no hands-on. Juz sit and listen.

I remember doctors shared about how to identify if you are in labour ie. signs and symptoms. They cover what are the choices of medication to reduce pain (ie. laughing gas, epi.. etc). They show birth process. etc..

So basically, the topics already covered in Mrs Wong's classes and in her books. So quite repetitive. And don't expect the doctors to make talk interesting. They use alot of jargons.

my Conclusion: It's not useful and definitely not worth going.

Mummies who have ordered Bravado & Baby Ktan,

Please make payment to POSB Savings 109-69332-4 and email your address to [email protected]

Pls do so by TODAY. As Bebelounge will be placing order tonight.

BebeLounge decides to let us go ahead with our orders even though we still lack of 4 orders for Bravado. But if anyone/any order backs out, then BP will be cancelled

Hi Chabby, did your gynae mention tat yr baby is too big for 32 weeks? Cos I remember for my #1, he's also 2.1kg at 32 weeks and my gynae already telling me too big. He says the normal weight shd be about 1.6kg.

Hi Lina, my #1 was born in Oct 2009. But I did not join the forum for Oct. I only join under my gynae's.

Daphne,

That's was a concern initially as most mummies says their babies are less than 2kg so far. but my gyane says it's ok for my height/1.73m as bigger size mum tend to have bigger size babies. she says she hope that my baby dun overshot 3.5kg at birth will do. she'd wan me to do natural.

i check w my sis also. she says 2.1 is also the norm for her previous pregnancies. guess it runs in the family (i hope).

Hi Chabby, OIC. I'm quite small size and my #1 was born 3.59kg at week 39. There's not much problem with the delivery as I went through C-sec. I remember at 36 weeks, my #1 was already 3kg. Hee....

Hi Bethel

I bought my decals frm a pushcart at Tampines 1 basement level @ $13+. It can be removed. I think there is one at Plaza Sing too, outside Burger King (if i m not wrong). Beside the escalator. But the shop its slightly more exp. Its not a shop by itself, rather its a open air shop.

Hope you won't mind.

Lily,

When is ur EDD? I'm also into my 32+ weeks although based on my calculation is only 31 weeks.

I also intend to work till 24th December (half-day), then either start MC or maternity leave.

Latest my baby has to come out in week 38 coz of my GD...

Miaiko,

Would you happen to know for those of us who still intend to get from bebelounge our orders and have transferred the money, can we still go ahead ie pay the extra $2 off per bra / forgo the breastpads?

Daphne,

thanks. but my concern is that gynae say my placenta seem a little low. hope it doesn't give me problems as natural delivery is cheaper..muhahaha

Lily,

dun stress. one thing at a time. but do arrange for some one to look after or run errands for your going P1 boy. maybe a close fren/mother of your boy's classmate.

Some advice on your boy going P1.

try to get hand-me-downs textbooks from frens or so.. or even NTUC textbooks. can help you save some $$. alot of stationery end up being useless. so go easy on stationery, files, exercise books and so on. buy only when the teacher ask for it.

during orientation or so, these are the things you should find out:

1. location of toilets (familiarize your kid on this. sound stupid but it's an essential)

2. check out the price of the food shown on the tuckshop menu. (can gauge how much is sufficient for his meals/recess/etc)

3. find out the name of the form teacher as well as e-mail. (you can contact the FT if you need clarification on things or even to inform that you've delivered/doing confinement. may not able to get some of the stuff your boy need to buy or something like that. etc)

4. try to get a buddy for your boy and the buddy's mum/guardian's number.

Hoshi,

i'm in my 32 weeks also. only intend to clear my leave in 2011. how's your GD going? everything ok?

Hi Hoshi,

my edd suppose to be 13 Jan but as am going for c sec it will be brought fwd to a week earlier..hence after 4 Jan that week..but whenever i go for my check up the baby's growth is 2 weeks in advance..so duno lay..and my gynae dun tell me baby's weight [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

it seems most of our no.1 was big at birth, mine came out at 4kg. even doc was surprised due to my size, I am on the average small side. but this no.2 seems to be average. now only 1.4kg at 29 weeks.

Hi, I will only go to the motherhood fair next week and give this week's fair a miss.

I've been to motherhood fair for 2 times and it seems to have a lot of things. So, I will just buy from there.

Lily,

if you are worried about food issue, you may wan to pack some snacks for him for recess for the first few days. maybe put a row of antacids that he usually eat in his sch bag as a safety precaution.

from what i know, P1 and P6 teachers are the more experienced teachers. everything shld turn out well de. it's ok to get the books already. 1 thing lesser thing to worry about.

Wow, haven't been to the forum for a day and so much has happened!

Chabby,

If u dun mind, can pm me your list? I actually found another list online, but it was long and my hb gave up reading halfway. T_T

Lina,

Oh yeah, lying down on the mattress with bb is also a good idea. Think we've to really consider hard whether to use cot or let bb lie on mattress.

Hopefully,

Eh... Actually when choosing gynae, we didn't really think much. We just went to a few forums, saw some reviews then decided already, cuz when we found out I was pregnant, we were supposed to go overseas for holiday the following week so we wanted to see a gynae fast to seek advice on whether we can go ahead with our travel plans. But seriously, $900 for c sec?? Wow! Our consultation regarding delivery packages will only come 2 weeks later on my next appt, so still not sure how the charges are like...

Ya I was also wondering whether to go for the mums n tots fair, but haven't collect our car so a bit out of the way to go there. Most likely will go for parenthood fair instead, since hb also wants to check out sitex fair for gps system. But sigh... Confirm will have a lot of pple, so prob will take half day leave on fri to check out. Manoevring in a huge crowd with a big tummy is no joke man...

Fiona, I dunno how heartburn feels, but I'm now suffering from acid reflux. If I eat too much at night before going to sleep, I can feel my stomach acid traveling up my windpipe and up my throat, and I wake up tasting the acid in my throat. Yuck...

re: Confinement food

Just confirmed the trial meal from newbaby confinement caterer for 3 dec lunch. Will keep interested MTB posted on the quality and portion [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Aiya visha! I should have waited! I thought I got a good deal paying sgd420 for pump in style, but this website is even cheaper! Argh!

yotsubato,

you dun accept PM.. can leave me or email add or PM me? i'll reply you from there. =)

Buy from Lengleng bah.. she seems more reliable based on frens who bought from her. some websites are not authorised sellers of Medela.. so if you really need to ship back to USA for reply, may be more tricky.

jass,

how much does your confinement meal package cost? may wan to order to reduce my parents hassle of cooking for me.

Jass

Do let me know too. I wont be having confinement lady. I will be likely to take care of myself and baby during my confinement.

My parents in law are working. My mother has passed away couple of years back. My dad has dementia. So no parents/parents-in-laws will be able to help me.

Also, let me know if the trial food is gd. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif])

Chabby,

Paisey, think the forum selected "dun accept pm" by default when I first registered. I've undone the selection already so should be able to accept PM now.

Mummies,

Which bottles do you recommend for feeding? My cousin highly recommends Pigeon honey-colored bpa free bottles, but cuz I'm using medela breast pump and so wanna save the trouble of transferring milk from bottle to bottle, but the medela bottles look quite plasticky to me. Do the Pigeon bottles fit the medela pumps? If not, anybody has any experience feeding from medela bottles?

Yotsuba,

r the pigeon bottles standard neck sized bottles? if they are they will fit directly onto the medela pumps. if they're wide neck bottles then they won't fit.

sorry, have never used the medela bottles to feed directly so can't advise u on that part.

Oh, that's good info abt the standard neck size bottles. Thanks! Will have to check out the bottles further to see if they are also bpa free ones as well. But is there any diff between standard size and wide neck? Does it affect bb's drinking?

Yotsuba,

hmmm those wide neck bottles claim that it is more similar to drinking from the breast cos if the bottle neck is wide means the base of the teat is also wider means bb hv to open their mouth wider to 'cup' the teat. errr hope that makes sense.

anyway, so it's supposed to mimic breastfeeding more closely. also if u're feeding formula, it makes it much easier to pour the milk powder in since the opening is wider.

but honestly i find it's all up to the individual bb. some bbs hv no probs drinking from standard neck bottles and still breastfeeding directly. some only like wide neck and some hate them..hahaha

btw, the standard neck size bottles are the ones that we were all brought up on. during our time got no such thing as wide neck bottle.

Yotsuba,

mail you the list of essential items le.

Avent and Dr Brown carries the wide bottle version. most other brands are the standard types.

as far as i heard, if you use avent pump, you must use avent bottles cuz not compatible w other brands. didn't hear such complains about other brands of pumps though.

i was recommended to use NUK. but there's a colleague who advised me not to buy so many bottles/teats at first cuz his boy refuse to suck from some type of teats. so the initial phrase may end up to be a trial and error. once confirm what your baby like, then send hubby to go buy more.

Hi, I have 2 tubes of brand new Palmer's Cocoa butter (organic) for sale. Bought them in August. I have been using another bottle for 3 months and has no stretch marks at all.

Letting go at $25 per tube. Meet up possible at Pasir Ris or Tampines MRT stations. Email me [email protected] if keen. Thanks.

Chabby,

pigeon has a wide neck version too.

good advise from yr colleague. my girl was one of those picky ones. i had all those pigeon bottles which i got from buying the sterilizer. she used them for abt 2 mths and then developed a lot of wind. so i switched to NUK. she used NUK up to abt 10mths then the flow was too slow for her so switched to Avent and she's using that until now.

ivftwins,

i just came back from msia by car. no issues. but i do travel with a dr's letter certifying my EDD and that i'm fit to travel just in case anybody asks.
