(2010/07) July 2010 MTB

Hi, has anyone attended the BabyCare Fair at Novena Square 2? Anything relevant for newborns?

I'm thinking of getting a baby sling carrier to carry my baby in the home. She needs to be carried almost all the time and I can't seem to do anything else. Any recommendations on baby sling carriers? I already got a BabyBjorn but it's not convenient to use around home. By the time I put her down from the BabyBjorn, she's wide awake. I need something where she can be put down very silently!!

just to share... i had mastitis before when i was breastfeeding my #1. one of my breasts was sore...a hard lump found under my arm..and i felt pain when i lift my arm...and milk hard to come out..later on i developed fever.

i saw pus coming out whenever i try to pump..so painful that i cant pump too. saw the pus...so afraid to let bb suckle.

went see breasts specialist at kk. she told me the best pump is our bb. and it is OK to let bb suckle even if got pus,...and pus got protein...she checked that my fever went down and the lump is not too hard..so its not abcess..(if abcess then need to operate..to get the pus all cleared).

She advised me to continue to let bb suckle...more frequent if poss..to let the lump cleared...cos bb is the best pump...

hope my info is useful.

ps: maybe i do eat quite a fair bit of garlic in my food. eg. garlic in frying veg, freshly chopped garlic in chillies for dipping food... maybe garlic helps to subside the infection

Claudia

I had finished the antibiotics Clamovid given by my GP and my fever subsided but still had slight pain.

Now, i'm on another course of antibiotics prescribed by the breast specialist and I think he might prob prescribe me another type to counter attack the bacteria after the test results are out. Took so many antibiotics.

Can't afford to be lazy as I had overslept and did not pump after midnight.

Maybe u can get the malay massage lady to help you massage your breasts. But if serious condition, better let doc see.

Supergal: the nursing tea is $38 per pack n can make 20+ cup. For the start, need to drink 3-4 cups a day. After drinking for 1 week, my supply start to increase gradually abt 10ml a day.

charliebrown: wanted to PM u but u don't accept PM so I've to post here. this is regarding Dr Agnes of Alpha Baby clinic at Jurong East. Me & my hubby find her & her staff very good, so much more better than our previous PD. quoted from my hubby "this one pay money also pay happier. we should have came here right from the start.".

the clinic is location just opposite JE MRT, at the same block as NTUC. the clinic is very spacious with lotsa room for children to play and not crowded today when we were there. we made an appointment and didn't really have to wait at all. after the nurse measure our bb's wt & length, we could go in n see the PD. the staff were very gentle in handling our bb when performing the measurement. in contrast, our previous PD's clinic is much smaller and very crowded n noisy. most of the time we have to wait outside the clinic. and althou we made appointment, we always have to wait for ~0.5hr.

Dr Agnes was very patient in answering all our queries and noticed that our bb got a lot of mucus stuck in his nose that's y he got the heavy breathing & snoring like sound sometimes. hence she spray saltwater to soften the mucus and suck it out. my hubby saw the process and really there were alot of mucus being sucked out. our bb breathing was so much better after that. then we proceed with the vaccination jab.

some details on the vaccination:

6-in-1 package is $400

Rota $70/dose, total 3 dose

Pneumo $148/dose, total 3 dose

chicken pox $110, 1 dose

consultation is $40-$60 per visit. for our visit today the consultation fee is $45.

1.5 mth: 6-in-1 (5-in-1 + Hep B)

3 mth: 5-in-1 + Pneumo#1 (can be taken at 3rd or 4th month) + Rota#1

4 mth: Rota#2

5 mth 5-in-1 + Rota#3 + Pneumo#2

1 yr: Pnuemo#3 (booster)

15 mth: MMR (part of 6-in-1 package) + Chickenpox

18 mth: 5-in-1

Hi Irene,

Can I know where did you get the nursing tea?

Fazzy,

Apparently, my bro-in-law who works at SGH pharmarcy said domperidone needs doc prescription but when I went to Guardian to enquire, the counter pharmacist actually said dint need and thus, I got a pack to try...it's about $20 for 30 pills and has to be taken 3 times a day. It's quite effective though I find it abit costly on long term basis. So was thinking of trying the nursing tea as well

Hi all

thanks for those sharing their experience on mastitis..

My hubby did ask me to stop BF as well because it is really too stress especially my supply is quite low...i spend 50min to pump out 80ml milk every 3.5 hrs ...furthermore i have to take care of 1st one as well... until i keep scolding her ... (so bad)... struggle ... haiz...

Hi ling,

are you still feeling pain after taking 2nd course of antibiotic ?

how do know whether having abcess?

Hi Irene, i am seeing the same PD as u... i took her vaccination pkg, and the nurse said they will call me as and when bb's next jab is due. When my bb was 1 mth old, they recommended me to take 5-in-1 cos i was told 6-in-1 more prone to fever. But so far, my bb already 2 mth and only taken the Hep B second dose, while i read some mummies had taken 6-in-1 already. Did u take the pkg?

Jasmine: Ur supply is usually low or only become low after ur mastitis? If so, it will come back after ur infection is cleare. but must still continue to pump regularly.. but of course, is up to u.. if u feel stressed abt BFing, then is ok to stop. i did feel the same way as u, plus the old folks also told me to give up saying my BM is poisonous due to the infection... but i am very stubborn and wanted to prove everyone i can do it.

Julie, I went to the Babycare fair today, very very small scale only and nothing much. Clothes, books, CDs, and J&J. I was also looking at bb carriers and there is one booth selling Manduca carriers. They have a shop in Square2 actually. The sales person very nice told me to bring my bb to her shop to try before buying, in case she refuse the carrier.

their shop name is Baby Slings & Carriers.

Mommies who brought their babies to polyclinic for vacinnation, may i know if appointment is needed if i am going down for the 1st time? Or we can just walk-in?

Jasmine: I felt better after the doc extracted the pus fm my breast. Now taking unasun antibiotics but as i'm pending the culture test of the bacteria, they might prescribe the right type of antibiotics to fight the bacteria.

The ultrasound will enable the doc to see whether got pus or not. Yr gynae might refer you to the breast specialist.

Before I went for ultrasound, the LC at parentcraft pressed against the lump and squeezed the aerola and milk and pus came out when wiped against the white towel (i still can't differentiate, the pus is yellowish according to LC). According to the LC, the lump usually clear in 3 days after she massaged.

Jolin: you have to make an appointment with poly and the 1st time u go, you need to see doc before the jab.

Note that if yr child's PD is fm TMC (cos in my case, the PD believes in better absorption of hep B during 2 mth according to the nurse), usually they do not take hep B jab at birth (which is diff fm the booklet).

Currently, Rotavirus is not available in poly so you need to book a PD for rotavirus vaccine.

Ling

I did asked my gynae if breast will become saggy and smaller after taking the medicine to stop milk supply. She didn't give me a firm answer and seemed to dismiss the myth. But I do have another friend who's friend after taking the medicine, the boobs become saggy while another friend confirmed that her breasts did became smaller.

I was told by LC that if want to stop bf, have to stop gradually like extend your pumping hours and limit the amt u pump. Eg. if you normally pump every 4 hours, try to extend to 5 hours, then 6 hours and so on. And if every time you yield 100ml, you should stop pumping when it reaches 80ml etc. But the problem for me is, I will get engorged and then kenna mastitis if I use this method...so if worse come to worse, I will take the pills. Boobs smaller nevermind cos I don't like big boobs. hehe

supergal: I got the nursing tea from http://www.originsjamumassage.com/Sacred-Tea.html, recommended by someone on this forum too. u can email rebecca at [email protected] do note that the nursing tea is probably more expensive than the domperidone pill as 1 pack of tea @ $38 can only last 6-7 for the start and maybe 10+days after supply increased.

sweetkiss: yup i took the package and the doc did mention to us that 6-in-1 is more prone to fever. but we would like to minimise the number of jab and also for the first jab we would like to see how does our bb react since in future we might want to let him takes 2 jabs together.

I took the pills to stop breast feeding my No1 last yr.. It did not make my breast smaller or saggy and now with my no2 I still have enough milk for her... The lactation consultant also told me if I regret my decision I can just continue to pump my milk out regularly to get more milk and the flow will continue

I also went to see a breast specialist last 2 weeks, have a lump on my left breast, did a ultrasound.

BS said it's a water cysct? maybe will dissappear after stop BF which is 6 months.

Was given another appt next year feb to review & ultrasound again

Sleeping Pattern

It has been quite a while since my baby developed this sleeping habit of waking up at 2am and 5am every night after his dreamfeed at around 11pm. After reading the recent posts here on training our baby to sleep throughout the night, i tried giving my baby 120ml of formula milk instead of breastmilk for his 11pm feed. But it is a great disappointment that he still wakes up for milk at 2am and 5am the past 2 nights.

I am wondering if it is just a habit (biological clock) for him to wake up or should i further increase the amount of milk i am giving him for his dreamfeed?

Sleeping thru

must keeping testing see what works. For my boy, a dreamfeed and a swaddle can last him a good 7 hours without milk. If he does wake, it is usually due to his arms and legs' movements.

Last night I fed boy at 930pm coz we only reached home ard 9pm. Then I gave his usual dreamfeed at 12 instead of 11pm. He slept all the way till 8am.

The previous night I was lazy so gave him last feed (latch on) at 10pm and didn't df him at 11pm... So hor, he got up many times in the night to feed. So i conclude I need give df at 11pm so tt mybb can sleep thru till ard 6-7am.

Must test and test. All thebest to those who r training bb to sleep thru.[IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Star Xin: Ic ic , I would love to have the extra ebm but my hubby dun wan.

Sugar: tks I'll go check it out, u stay ard sgoon too? U intending to put ur bb in infant care?

Cheese: yup I bought the carrier, u try to google, some shops got sell, n there's a bp selling much cheaper den online. I bought mine online.

Scrumpee: I sometimes overslept and didnt pump after midnight so it extends over 3 hrs. Just wonder whether this has cause my milk supply to stay constant at 50ml on my left.

Hope to bf for 3 mths or more and if was really apprehensive if I stop, I dun want another case of mastitis cos real painful and not cheap seeing the BS.

Mummies who had mastitis: Is the lump still there after doc pulled out the pus fm the syringe?I dare not massage hard on the lump.

Just wonder when it will go away. I ask the BS but he didn't say anything and said as long as there's no pus, i can feed the bb.

Kepsis,

I also live near serangoon central there.. At bartly road.. Where u stay?? The elfa childcare next to serangoon central right.. I did ask them before the rate, it is $820 aft subsidy for full day.. But I have not view the centre yet.. Still considering... When I ask was like beginning of July they still have 4 place left...

Kepsis, I used to stay at serangoon for 20 yrs so know tat pl pretty well... I'm currently not working but will send my no1 ( 28 mths) to the elfa childcare if I ever start work as my parents and in laws stay near there... My nephew is at Cambridge in gardens so went there to view

Just wanted to share on Elfa My 4yo niece used to go there until recently. My Sis and BIL felt that the teachers were not very attentive and caring. Then they switched her to Agape. My niece told me today that she likes the teachers better over at Agape as they are very kind.

Ling

sometimes if I overslept, I yield more when I pump.

Anyway, I just went to bought the pill to stop my breastmilk today. Wow! exp, $26 per pill. Have to take two for two days. But somehow, I don't have the courage to take it. Will see how, if the pain on my breast still very bad tomorrow, I will pop THE PILL and end my moo moo journey.

Hi Mummies,

Im new to this thread. BB is 9 weeks old now.

Would like to check when you guys start feeding water to baby?

My boy is on 20% bm and 80% formula.he had problem pooping and had not pooped for 2 days. he will gek sai till face red when hes awake.. im so worried.. can feed fruit juice?? pls help to advice..

Scrumpee: Wah, the pill is ex. Try yr best and see how whether u can stand the pain. Now i really appreciate the milk after what has happened. The moo moo journey is indeed not easy.

Serene: I feel engorged especially when I sleep sideways.

Any bf mums take dang gui? Is it safe to consume?

scrumpee: eh! i took the pills alredy & it doesn't just end lor.. slowly ur breast resume back the size milk will still have but lesser. I pump out on & off cause breast smaller engorge faster.. so pop pills don't = stop need time but lesser time.

dinomommy >> no juice.. bb still young, water ok. but not too much. later bb full bcause of water n wont drink milk. causing malnutrition
