hi everyone.. things going great? all waiting for cny?
things aren't rosy for my family. frens on fb wld have seen teng's horrific looking rash. awaiting blood test results.. if tested positive for mycoplasma infection.. whole family has to be treated. inclusive of yh.. this prolonged bout of illness is outstaying its welcome.. i am drained
to make things 'worse'.. yh is rejecting to be latched.. cld have happened in the hopstial when he was on the bottles all the time to monitor his intake. his sleeping association is acting up aalso. wake up in the night screaming.. rejects paci.. for three nights in the row.. he wakes up and scream two hourly.. feeding is the onli thing that settles him. but feedhim. he takes too much milk. morning feeds all haywired..
i am now left thinking. fight again for him to latch on (no pt? coz eventually when i go back to work (end of feb) he needs to be on bottles again! so why make him cry for nothing?.. yet i'm in a dilemma because i endured so much jus tto latch him on. now he can latch better.. i let go just because of some unfavourable circumstances?
i seriously dunno.. mopping and depressed these days.. over theseissues.. swaying to and forth, yet to come to a conclusion. .. miser warns, i am starting to show the once familiar signs of going into depression again.. trying to stay chirpy.. but really v hard...
loke: congrats. life's ironic. i used to be the one encouraging u to keep latching.. and not give up.. now i think i need the encouragement.. and ouch.. if i have to interpret yh's preference for the bottle as 'not loving me'.. it is going to hurt more.. haiz.
wah liew. i sound so gloomy. i think i shd just MIA a bit. else i make the forum gloomy..
anyway. i am here just to drop a note abt early weaning.. hmm.. read that many of us are comtemplating weaning already.. a gentle word of advice. hold it.. till 6 mths. unless u have been advised by ur PD to do so for ur kid..
for 2 reasons
1- at this age.. the kid's stomach lining is still not mature enough to handle solids per se. introduced the wrong food, the stomach lining can be damaged and it hurts big time for the bb.. and damage is irreversible. hence weaning needs to be done when bb is ready.. and systematically .. wrong food introduced at the wrong time can cause bad consequences.
2. taking of solids cut the kids' appetite for milk
Milk (fm/bm) is really the onli thingy that our bbs need now. if we introduce solids at this age, we are removing their appetite for milk. as little as the solids amt they might be taking, it fills them up too quickly and as a result, they cut back on milk.. no good.. it affects calcium intake and might caused imbalance of nutrients for the bb.. in fact for 6 mths. solids are tasters.. milk stil main intake. till about 7 -8 mths.. then they start to have small meals per se and milk needs to be GRADUALLY cut back.. our kids are seriousy way too young to have breakfast, lunch and dinner on solids!
so.. if we cld. hold.. till bb turns 6 mths
and yes.. that book that roxy recommended is a good book. GF's book for weaning is also good.. ignore the schedule lah. but it helps to tell u which food kind to introduce and at which period.. and it helps to ensure weaning is done systematically and milk is not cut back too quickly. good tips to ensure bb move on to textured food (yes.. teng was eating minced meat at 7mth.. when he only started teething at 1 yeras of age!) also have good recipes suitable for the different stages in the book..
exciting.. our bbs can start to be weaned in 2 more months for u.. three more for me

.. and when they start.. hahaha. most of us might be complaining that too leiceh to bring the purees out and wish the bb is onli on milk again!
ok. running away again. dun want to turn the forum gloomy
