hi
juz think of pushing the bb out. dun think too much of the pain! would say best to go without epidural juz think our mOther can do without it so can we. but tat dOsen't anything if u use epidural.
juz do what it suits ur feeling

*disclaimer: This is not a medical consult.

flower4
I'm a tad confused with ur msg. So... u prefer no epidural and your hubby advises against epi as well? Epidural can be delivered despite the degen disc, but your gynae and her team will have to make a proper assessment of how bad your condition actually is. If it's bad, you might not be able to do an epidural.

flower: hmm i tink mayb coz it's ard CBD area.. bo bian =( coz if bb sick nt convenient for me fr office go to punggol to pick bb up n cant visit him during work..

babyplanet or babies haven (pat schoolhouse) r like 1.8k! gosh..

kinderland: 1:5 (teacher: babies)
diaper, milk, rash cream, bathing stuff like soap etc, matress cover, all 2 b provided by parents

=> din q like coz it's juz beside amoy food centre so v worried abt fire hazzard n air nt v fresh (silly hor? haha)

n e centre is on 5th floor.. lift only goes to 4th floor so muz walk up 1 floor

- Del-care: 1:3 ratio
bathing stuff provided n matress cover
diapers, milk provided by parent

=> bad thing is q far away fr my office n abit "old" la..

good thing is i got coporate disc of 20%

- learning vision: most exp so far not yet visited but gg down next week to see

gerald: oh u mean if i choose natural epidural i can still opt for c-sec GA? i'm nt so used to e idea of needle into spine leh.. i tot C-sec GA is e safest for bb? heard doc say c-sec 20 mins bb out liao

itsy: ya, i tink if u hav c-sec w epidural u're nt asleep ma.. so theoritcally u r awake n being cut up.. but of coz there will b a screen infront of u u cant see la.. else sure faint!! so gross see urself being cut up.. haha

kiddo: i oso wan to go for natural w/o epidural! i tink if mums can so can we..! but buu but... i'm worried of wat to do if i cant take e pain..

my fren took LA, thigh jab, laughing gas everything, juz dun wan epidural.. her 1st kid n she was in labour for 4 hrs only! so good.. coz her contractions started e night b4 n she slept thru'out.. gosh

hmmm... any other docs on this forum? I'm not the medical person leh. I'm the kinda guy that's scared of blood. Just getting bits of information from the missus.

Hmmm. I know that there are always more complications when GA is delivered. Epidural is still preferred. But like I mentioned earlier, check with your gynae about hospital practices. They might put you under the knife after a pre-determined period due to whatever constraints. But I'm sure we'll all pray for a safe, pain-free, non-eventful pregnancy (though that's really a rare breed).

Montessori and other preschool settings are slightly different... NTUC/Kinderland/Learning Vision/PCF/Cherie Hearts etc.... are actually "branding" like that... that's in my opinion lah... :) throughout the years of teaching in both childcare and kindergarten settings... private or partial govt schools... i feel that the school is actually NOT that important..... it's the TEACHER that makes the difference in your child. - This is based on my opinion of the different schools i worked at and attached to previously. Montessori is like using real-life stuffs as toys...etc.. which i have never step into before to take a look... smth like they use real utensils to play.... :) most angmohs will like that kind of setting... cos chinese everything also scare... one scratch on the hand can complaint until upside down... but seriously i really feel the teacher is much more important... however, the school's style you have to know too.. cos one of my friends' girl was studying in one preschool at Hougang years back, she peek at the window (nobody saw her) and she got a shock when she managed to see the toilet area... her daughter was naked with many other kids (both gender!) and was crying so badly... the teacher also never do anything much! Usually, for my case, i would undress the kids and use the towel to wrap them up. Let them sit on the chair and wait for their turn. And i would shower all the same gender one first, even if they are only 18months! Lunch time, she actually saw her daughter ate very little and when its nap time, she drank very little too, which was not her usual self. But when she went to pick her up, the teacher told her, she ate EVERYTHING and DRANK EVERYTHING. My friend was quite pissed with how the teacher handle kids. When she told me this, i told her to monitor again and check with her girl, speak to the teacher.. maybe on that day something happen or what that she doesn't know... she told me it's like that for many days..... and every morning her girl refuse to go to school... and cry all the way....

gosh! i think out of topic in here liao! Hahhaa... paiseh ah!

Anyway, most preschools adopt LEARNING THROUGH PLAY since years back.... children will learn lots of things which books don't really teach when they are playing... especially role-play for the older ones. However, some parents don't really like this style of teaching. THey prefer the old ways of using homework, books, worksheet... anyway most important is, as long as your child is happy going to school.... everything should be fine... and things will fall into place nicely... :) learning will only take place when the child is happy and ready to attend school.

:) That's my opinion yah.

*jess*
Besides me, you, .... who else is attending this sat 2pm? i'm quite forgetful yah. I cannot remember leh. LOL! I only know there are at least 4 of us.... :)

*gerald*
i really salute you leh. You're a rare species. Hahaha. Though my hb is willing to learn all these, but his job is keeping him way too busy... until his sleep is also disrupted... LOL!

ANyway, i am also afraid of BLOOD. I'm like a timid mouse.. everything also scare! I used to be a crybaby when i was YOUNG. Hahahahaha. And my mum always call me "HUMBAO".... -.- A little pain i cry like mad! Seriously i don't know how to handle when i gonna deliver! But i keep telling myself relax relax relax... don't panic.. if panic, i will "kalang kabok".... hahahaa

*itsy*
I'm very thrifty already :) But i have one habit. Hahaha. I will spend whichever i feel it's special or worth it. Cos i am someone who loves to have beautiful memories kept. Hahahaha. okay, i am one wierd girl yah. Hahahahaha. I can save alot and spend on quality rather than on quantity. I doubt i can work. My hb just told me, did you intend to find some part time job or what..... he phobit me. So cannot already. DUH!

princess: i'm lost.. haha.. catch no ball.. but if i go to e centre, hw do i tell e teacher good not?

i've been to Del-care today.. they seem q open/ transparent even inviting parents to stay thru'out e day to see hw e kids r being handled..

n e principal n teacher seemed to q like e kids.. saw 2 infants playing tug of war n 1 fell down, e teacher went immed to console e kid telling him it's ok etc.. dunno izzit coz we r there.. anyway there is no non=refundable "admin" fee to tie u down.. which i prefer.. unlike kinderland, to reserve a place muz pay admin fee tat is non refundable..

of coz both places req us to place a refundable deposit of 1 mth..

anyway, i'm gg tis sat!! kekeke

*flower4*
Infant care centres are always very expensive. Even after the subsidy, it's still quite expensive! The teacher:child ration is different, that's why! However, the teacher's salary is pathetic. Hahahahahaa.. SOmetimes i was thinking, might as well i stay at home and help people to babysit... i have the experience, patience, love, qualification... hahaha.... but sometimes many people would rather send to school because of the subsidy and the amount they can use to pay with.

hahaha... pls dun salute me. My bosses will have my head when I go back on Sat. I've got tons of manuals to sieve through and here I am glued to this forum because it moves so fast and it's easy to get lost.

btw. Great writeups on the childcare stuff. I'm also looking for infant/child care for my kiddo. Not easy and not cheap. Alas! Such is the society we live in, where it's always going to come at a price.

Hi flower4
hee.. i'm fine with it. anyways the postnatal massage will be done in our own hse too.
i enjoyed it the last time (1st trial).. will do it again :p

Hi itsy

Hi shelled
Great if ur hubby can join us and keep u company at same time! my hubby says he can wait somewhere else for me if no one brings hubby along.

Hi Gerald
Im bringing my hubby =)

Hee princessxiaomei
confinement is the name of the 1 month period (either 28 or 30 days) we need to stay indoors to recuperate our bodies after delivery.. m i right? haha I'm already very clumsy even before preggie.. my hubby is also worried i might trip and fall with tummy.. so far so gd that i din injure myself.

Hi all,
finally back from PC show, super crowded.. dont look like there is recession in Sg!! lucky hb was braving the crowds and opening the way for me and protecting me and bb.. hehe

such an active forum today...

itsy,
my hb also like urs.. keep saying buy later dont buy so early.. buy so early also no place to keep and blah blah.. but i told him got fair now, got sale, got discount then he says later on also will have! ^^||| and he likes to look at stroller too like ur hb cos he says it;s like buying car lor.. aiyoh.. all men the same leh...

i really scared later by the time he decide to buy, will be too late.. i always tell him if bb decide to come out early then we havent buy anything how?? he says dont worry... sigh... i also dont know how lah..

weather is really hot leh.. even aircon on i also can perspire lor...

Antenatal class,

And i'm going for my gynae visit tmr.. finally after more than a month cos my gynae was away... so happy!!

*cho*
hahaha... too lengthy liao... so you catch no ball. LOL!

How to tell if a teacher good or not ah?? Hmmm..
You need time to tell... the fastest way is.. see how your child talk to you about his/her teacher! Especially the younger ones!!! Based on your own opinion and your child's... then you can tell whether your child has a good teacher. Some parents might think she's good, some might not. It depends on the parents' way of thinking.

Some schools are transparent as in they allow you to stay throughout for 1 day, half day, 2 days or 3 days. Some schools totally don't allow. Every school have their own reason. For example, usually for a young child, if he/she is new and you're there for the first day to see how everything runs, your child might or might not cry the next day when you're not there. He/she might thought "My mummy will go to school with me, so i no need to scare." And let's say there is another child who is quite new... perhaps a few days or weeks there... still crying.. saw You there... he/she might cry for his/her mummy too. She might think how come friend's mummy can come, mine cannot. Something like that... that's why certain schools don't encourage parents to stay even for 1 whole day. Some allow cos they don't mind what might take place if you won't be there after the few days.

But most schools would want you to place deposit and 1 month... that's their school rules loh!

If your child is always crying and afraid of school, always cling on to you when you want to send him/her there, try to talk to her when she is not crying. You don't lie to her yah! And don't RUN AWAY after dropping her there! NEver ever do that. Let her know you have to work, earn money, bring her to MacDonald blah blah blah, and when she comes to school, she has friends to play with, toys to play, music and movement, books to read, do some work, art and craft etc... talk until like it's so fun! Then let her know you will pick her up in the evening after work...... just dont run off....

cho,
so sorry, don't know anyone who sends their kids to these three centres. i personally only know about the centres located around the nus/biopolis area because most of my colleagues send their kids to these centres.

flower4,
the infant care centres that are situated near work places are all priced like that.

princess,
i drank cold milk throughout my first month at home with bb. cos really very thirsty and hungry when breastfeeding. and milk + cereal is the easiest, most nutritious way to refuel myself with protein, carbs and calcium. can use one hand to pour and eat, while supporting/breastfeeding bb with the other hand. but then again, i don't adhere to any single confinement practice. so i'm prob not a good gauge.

antenatal classes,
mummies who attended your antenatal classes tonight, hope you all enjoyed yourselves!

*gerald*
Work is never-ending!!! But at least you still have some time to "chat" with us here... hahahaa... we all learn from one another through this forum... i can only give my opinions regarding preschools... final decision still up to individual... :)

Not to scare you, many years back when i was still kinda attached to this school, i got a shock with how the china teacher handle the 18months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After she left and i take over completely, i felt that the kids are safer!! LOL! And that is what make me scare to think of putting my own kid in a childcare! Unless i am working there or i have friends who work there....

*sandwich*
I was thinking of taking my usual chilled strawberry milk with cereals in the morning so that my mum doesnt have to rush to send me breakfast... just lunch and dinner will do. But i'm afraid can't take chilled milk... and i intend to BF baby... so quite afraid loh.

You're attending sat's class too right?

princess,
wow ur detailed analysis is gd!! cos i plan to send my bb to a childcare or playsch when she reach 18 months or earlier. Hope to free my mum some time from taking care of her lor.

Hoho.. think most men will wait till nearer the date then they think not EARLY to get stuff already! My hb also tell me still early still early. Only bought the stroller.... and it's his prince's mini car. -.-"

princess,
if you're not really adhering to the whole confinement thing, there is no really good reason why you cannot take milk with cereal for breakfast. unless, just unless, taking cow's milk is causing your breastfed baby some problems like eczema, wheezing, colic etc. then you may want to avoid taking cow's milk. nope, not attending antenatal classes for this pregnancy, cos attended just two years ago for #1's pregnancy.

*milkway*
hahahaha.... you don't find too boring can liao... cos when it comes to talk about my experience about preschool... i can rattle non-stop! LOL!

Thought the salary really very little, but i still love teaching especially with the younger ones. One parent commented i am one easily-contented teacher.... her girl doesn't know how to call my name properly till 6 mths later, she called me the correct way and i was so happy until i couldn't stop smiling! That's what she observed lah! Hahahahaa...

But for 18 months, since you have someone to help you look after, why not try putting at those 3 hour or 2 hour programme... like Apple Tree playgroup, or PCF programme instead of putting at childcare?

princess,
i have a silly thought. when your boy is big enough to go to preschool, maybe you can find a job in a certain preschool, and then send him to the same one. like that can work and earn your keep, plus see him the whole day long ...

*sandwich*
Regarding my confinement, it's still pending. Have no confirmation to it. Still trying to find the best way out. Worse come to worse, see how loh. LOL! Always think of my confinement, i get so frustrated leh. -.-" Taking cow's milk is what i am afraid since i want to BF... so now thinking and thinking...

princess: i'm gg for tis sat;s class too.. ooh hubby's cmg along too.. in case i forget wat mrs wong says.. haha

tks for ur detailed write-up! but.. so it means i will only noe hw good teacher is aft kid born?

e principal at del-care oso told me.. when leaving e kid muz always re-assure them u r cmg back for them etc etc n dun say bye liao then xim tia go back hug them etc ooz repeated farewell is v destressing for them..

*sandwich*

Hahahaa... i have that thought too. And i know there is one preschool which provides free if i work there and send my child there! Hahahahaa... but i was thinking to do that after i close factory! Cos i still prefer teaching in a kindergarten! :)

princess,
my boy can't pronounce his teacher's names properly too. so fav teacher is now called "kira" and second fav teacher is call "ying". actually they're full names are teacher syakira and teacher ying yee. but he makes them sound like they're his same-age friends, hahaa

Eh... not true la. We haven't got everything yet also. Still very undecided cos SOOOOOO many choices but want the BEST one mah!

Honestly, I feel bad when I see the guys get put down. Brotherhood leh!

*cho*
HUH! After kid born???? LOL! Actually it's not really good to keep changing preschool also... some parents felt that the child kept crying (thinking school lousy) so want to withdraw and send to another school... like that your child will have wrong concept.. i cry = change new sch! Then u will have a harder time for her/him to settle down loh! You observe for one month is good enough... usually a kid will settle down in a month's time. Some cry for days. Some cry for weeks. But usually within a month, should stop. Unless the teacher don't care.

It will be heart pain when you send him/her and he/she cry like tap flowing... but you have to br brave! They take some time to adapt to new environment. Just don't lie, re-assure them and say byebye and go off. Don't suddenly appear again.... it won't help but make matter worse!

princess,
that preschool sounds perfect for you. go there first lah, then when your boy grows a bit bigger, transit to kindergarten together with him. i'm thinking that your husband can fetch the both of you conveniently everyday, don't have to go to so many places. oh, how many kids you intend to have?

gerald,
sidetrack a bit, if your wife is an anesthesiologist, then she must work really irregular hours/shifts. like that infant care might be a problem for you guys because centres are open from 7am-7pm.

WAH... this thread is so happening tonight!

I'm going to my lala land le.. Good night mums n dads!
kao_sleep.gif

princess,
hmm i still have more than 18months to consider wat i intend to do. will take ur suggestions into consideration. thanks!

epidural or no,
i havent decide.. can i decide when i'm abt to deliver? cos i dont know if i can tahan the pain

*gerald*
haha.. no leh i never really put my hb down. to me, my hb is the best man i met! hahahahaa... guys are guys.. sometimes they are born to be like that.... just like girls, girls always gossip more than guys right! By nature mah.... hahahaha... 3 women = 1 market. That's what my hb's friends always say we girls. Hahaha.....

Me too lah... undecided too that's why many things never buy yet.. cos like you, want the BEST. We go for Quality!

*sandwich*
you're in my facebk right, you know my real name right.. so its hard for so young kids to pronounce my name properly...

they used to call me...
teacher maggie mee...
teacher neh ner ni....

i laugh like mad when i think of it... but i dont laugh in front of them lah... each time they call me, i repeat my name to them... then some of them called me correctly after 6 mths.. some longer.... hahaa.. but i have that kind of satisfaction leh!!!!! hahahahaa...

princessxiaomei,

Die la, the infant care im looking at got a lot of china pple looking after them leh, tot can learn good chinese from them :p..

sigh. still a infant how can they tell you tales about the centre .sob....poor baby..

i think al teacher work in infant /child care center mus go thru personality test leh...

*milkway*
hahahahaa... ya.. you habe more than 18mths to think of that... no hurry.. think of the best for yourself and your kid! :) No right or wrong to send to whichever school.... up to individual..

epidural... i keep telling myself PAIN PAIN PAIN.. and need pay more money... and pretend no such things... hhaa... i really hope i can do without any of these.....

*flower4*
not all china teachers are lousy. i come across one good one bad. only 2 i came across. the first one was horrible. the 2nd one not too bad. i don't wanna scare you leh. relax yah! and sometimes not only china teachers.. local teachers also.. some work there not bcos of the passion.. some work there is no choice... no other options.. LOL!

infant cannot tell you tales... but their behaviours might tell... young infants might be a little tough.. but mobile infants should be easier..... :) ?????

*sandwich*
yup! it's really damn funny. and i can still recall her voice of how she called me teacher maggie mee for 6months! Now she's in K2 already.. so fast right... she's really one super duper cutie girl.... i miss her so much loh!

*sandwich*
Hahhaa.. i intend to have 2-3.. if #2 is girl, then i close. If #3 is boy, i try again. But i wont go more than 3.. hahahahaa.... try my best.. everything is fated but i will try.

I still thinking loh... i don't really like to change preschools too.. cos i miss the kids.. and not good if the kids keep changing teachers!

princess, got one time i wen to the center, duno why there tis uncle stand inside looking at infants/babies doesnt seems like the staff there...i feel so gross... maybe because all china teacher there so chIO.....

i will feel unsecure if i put my bb there lor..

why center allow ah?

*flower4*
That uncle standing there might be the boss? Or is it one of the babies' family member?

Usually centres don't really allow outsiders to step in... mainly only the children and the staff.... some parents also won't step into the school... and by the way, there are few men who love to teach presch kids too... most of these few would be in kindergarten (no need shower kids) and if they are in childcare, they cannot shower the kids. Remember yah!

flower4,
the uncle sounds like a grandparent. the principal/teacher won't allow any uncle to just stroll inside if he's not related to the students.
