oh, neurofen may give gastritis, thanks for letting us know ... it's difficult to get my kids to eat when they have fever, only want biscuits ... which is very heaty ...

SL,
i try to stop her if i see it, i'll say No No then put my hand to her mouth, at least she bite me not so painful... but when i don't see it, hoho ... she learn this "trick" from her kor kor

dunno what other methods i can try ...

Joeey

I read that it's normal for our 2nd born kids to behave this way now. Coz when they were younger, they couldn't retaliate when their older siblings snatch their stuff. So now that they are able to, they will show this aggressive side. One way is also to teach your older kid not to snatch her toys but to ask first. My gal just bites me.
sad.gif
she does that for comfort, when she's hungry and when she's sleepy. Now, that is a headache. I was a biter myself when I was young.

Joey: baby tv no regrets leh they will sing and dance and my boi will follow them too very cute.. He sometime will hum too
I think my boi down with fever also partly my fault I gave him a lot of baby biscuits and some potato chips without water ( he hate plain water). My friend told me they need lots of fluid when fever so I gave him very sweet grip water homemade barley or lingyang to make him drink!

Injection: is it necessary to have this option injection when baby turns 1..suppose to be today but he down with fever. I know 15month mmr and 18 month ??? Cannot remember

babiesmeme

Think lingyang is too cooling for kid leh.

Is ok to take the jab a bit later. But try not to delay to long cos as per my doc he say the jab will not be so effective. My gal 15 mths MMR will be the last jab. Don't remember they need any compulsary jab on 18 mths.

haha.. me too, when i was young, i will owas bite my jiejie.. i was very very naughty de.. even like coming out of lift, i hv to be first....then if she came out first, i will be angry n bite her arm!

then, last sun, hb & i went for a wedding dinr so left the girls at my parent's plc, when i was back latr the nite to pick the girls, my sis showed me her arm with deep teeth marks! she said Keona juz walked up to her (out of the blue), held her arms tight, bite her hard, and then walked away!!!

KNS! i was like.. telling my sis, haha.. i bite her when i was young, now my girl oso bite her, for no reason some more! bahahahhaa.. prolly her arms juz look tasty!!!

SL: honestly I have no wish to give Caden lingyang but whenever Caden down with fever mil insist to give him she said to let the heat out. U know in the end my boi whole day on high temp of 38 to 38.5 !

Btw do u give honey to your baby?

SL: Thanks... will look forward to the kids pack to keep my two girls entertained...

Re Biting:
I did something to my #1 which works but probably mommies here might not think its a good idea...
when she actually bit me, i bit her back gently and tell her that its will hurt me just like my bite will hurt her... the 2nd time she bit me, i bit her back slightly hardful... then... VOILA! :D

mashy,
Yes, it's really a headache when kids start to bite. hmm, your gal follow you ah, hehe ...

I try to teach kor kor not to snatch mei mei's toys, when he snatch, i'll take it away from his hands and say since you take meimei toy, mummy also take your toy, so must ask for permission first, meimei will give you the toy after 5 minutes ok. Sometimes, he still snatch meimei's toys ...

babiesmeme,
it's okay to delay immunizations for 1 or 2 months. injections contain mercury , so the older they take, the better they can handle ba... doctors will say it's safe to take... end of the day, it's still up to you as you are the mother
happy.gif

Lizz

oh, that's a bit extreme. I won't do that for
sure coz I think that they may think it's ok to retaliate the same way. I bite u, u bite back. I hit your head, u hit back.

biting
not sure if my boy's biting is considered real biting or not... haha!
he will not bite very big mouth of the flesh, but somehow he can just managed to get like 1mm of the flesh, so its very painful but no teeth marks!

2nd born
my 2nd born oso getting very aggessive.. pushes her brother's hands away when he is too close to me.. etc.. she is turning into a feisty lil girl.

jabs
someone update me pls. 12mths there is a booster jab right? can delay? :p

i guess i just have a weird sense of humour... i feel that they have to experience it and understand why we are saying no to it...

i realised she do things without understanding why, but if they are in our shoes, they can think better...

bobo

Yr gal so cute leh. Just walked up to yr sis and bite her.

Mashy

Oh really... Don't remember 18 mths needs jab leh. Will go back and check. Thought MMR is the last jab liao. Hehehe...

Babiesmeme

Oh ok... Yes, after 1 yr old they can take honey.

bobo: HAHAH!! Keona is so cute, so random!!

re biting: uh oh... shayna and i play a game where i bite her finger (gently of course lah)..think i better stop this game, lest she thinks biting is a fun game!!!

babyS,
my girl also like to put her finger in my mouth, then i'll blow and bite her gently... she does the same and put her finger in korkor's mouth, then got bitten badly once !!

Lizz

I think at this pt, they still can't think in our shoes yet. They are still not able to understand altho they may be able to empathize.

Also, will this teach her an eye for an eye? Will it mean it's ok to hurt another person if the other party started it? Will she do that to 'educate' the other kid like the way u do? Well, something to think abt and consider.

mashy: you will be amazed at how much they can think and understand you... much more than we can imagine...

Eg, she watch tv too near to it, when i asked her to, she will walk further away and sit down when asked. I was pretty amazed at their understanding power... She know that she is not suppoosed to go to my dressing room but when i asked her to come out and told her i will punished her if she doesnt get out at the count of 10, she would come out.

anyway the bite was to let her know the strength of it... she probably did not understand how painful it was...

Liz

what I meant is not that they can't understand us. They can. It's the part about being able to be in another person's shoes. It's still more of a cause and effect thing for them now. Like if I cry, I will be comforted. If someone snatches my toy, I hit back, I get it back. Another way will be to cry to get it back. But they can't understand the feelings of another person. They won't understand how heart breaking it is when the parents say good bye to them too. They don't understand why parents need to work and why they need to say thank you and please. They can understand actions but not reasoning.

mashy: i understand your point of view... maybe you are right... but i always believe in explaining to them... like how i educate my #1, i always tell herr why i do this, i do that. That she have to sacrifice something to get another. maybe im weird, i always feel that they understand... i relate to them like how i would relate to an adult but in simplify terms... so far it work for #1... :D

Liz

I think the older they get, the better such reasoning will work. Like when my boy was younger, he likes to play with the fan. I can tell him that he will get hurt if he plays with the fan but it doesn't seem to register. He will still go ahead and play. But now that he is older, he understands. When I pull his hand near the fan, he'll resist and shout 'no!'

Teaching is a long process and it can take years before u see the fruit. I think it's good that u explain why they should not do certain things. I do that too even though I don't expect them to understand immediately. It's the other things that go along when teaching the kids. The reason why I disagree with biting my kids is that altho they understand pain, it may teach them something else in the process and that is retaliation. Does it make them right if they didn't start it? Does it make u right to bite them? They will not understand other pp's pain, only that mommy hurt me by biting me.

Just like when we cane our children when they are noti. Likely they won't even understand why they were caned. Just that they were noti. If u ask them the specifics, they can't answer u. I still use the cane to set some boundaries for my boy. Haven't used on my gal. Wonder when will I start for her. Hmmm.

Mashy,

I guess we all have our own education style. My girl actually listen and stop playing with the fan after much reasoning talk (and maybe some demo, haha).

Teaching is indeed a long process. Explaining is important to me. I rather my kids grow up to question about things they are unsure of than to accept it as it goes. My #1 will always ask me (only after i am calm though... haha) why she is being punished if she doesnt understand it. And for the record, i only demostrated the biting once or twice to tell her what is a bite and it is painful, and she never did it again. Its just like experiments in school makes learning easier to understand. What is key her is the explanation afterwards.

Everyone has their own style in parenting, just now i am against the use of cane. To me, it causes fear in kids which might not help at all. I always explain to my kid after i punish them in other ways other than physical. If no explanation is given, they might think, "I cannot do this cos i will get beaten" rather than "I cannot do this cos this is not right and might myself or others"

anyway, just my two cents. :D

PS: yday playdate was fun... shall we organize one weekly?

mashy
Zachary LS also and we went to PD today. What is probiotics? Can buy from iherb? Which brand is good? I got sumbucus and started feeding that him 2 days ago. Heard that one can help build immunity too

babiesmeme
i gave my boy lingyang once when he was having fever and i find it quite good. i bought the lingyang pre-packed from chinese med hall. very ex and double boiled end up a bit only!!

my hubby gave my boy honey, those one one strip type (like straw filled with honey).

sharon, haha i am lazing around now while waiting for Zachary to wake up from nap. quite tired and sleepy. only took 30mins nap at around 7am. went to pd cos my boy diarrhea again.

diarrhea
just to share. Dr Ong adviced me not to feed Zachary any plain water. Give porridge water & barley water. Fruits & veggie only banana and carrot. no spinach, no watermelon which i've been feeding Zachary!! *opps* and Dr Ong emphasized ZERO plain water. so ya~

Probiotics:

I think its good for kids, my girls are taking it. Esp Xuen, she had some episodes of vomiting but it got better after that.

The ones i got are from PD and very expensive. any one got any alternatives to recommend?

hihi reira~
oh dear, hope zachary will recover soon.
anyways, din noe cant gv plain water whn ls... wat's the reason did yur dr ong say?

re: ling yang
ya, it's very liang... but i tink if the kid is running high temp, it's ok to gv abit.

my crazy mil owas like to make ling yang for my hb & sil to drink de...majiam treat it like a liang teh! siao!! i duno for guys la..prolly still orite...but i feel definitely a no-no for a girl lor!!!

Lingyang: but the cute thing is it suppose to bring down the temp but instead my boi temp will shoot up eg before drink lingyang 37.8 after drink 38.0 to 38.5? so i really dont understand.

Injection: nurse said 15mth MMR (chickenpox) and 18mth booster compulsory.

Reira

Hope Zachary get well soon.

babiesmeme

For the 15 mths jab, chicken pox is optional. But the price for MMR and 2 in 1 (MMR & chicken pox) is the same price...

ok time to wake Zachary up for lunch. he've been napping for 2.5hrs. so fast already 2:38pm.

sharon, SL
thanks, so far he only poo once in the morning, maybe he has already recovered le. haha

sharon
oh~ the potato wedges, yum yum! can share with me the recipe? i wanna make some now!

bobo
i forgot what dr ong said le, he said a lots of things. only remembered he said no plain water, then i asked is it alternate between plain water and porridge water and he emphasized zero plain water. i also dont remember why haha

Reira

for my gal, I'm using nature's way primadophilus from iherb. Recommneded by mich las time. I give everyday in her milk whether she's sick or not. I think it helps.

Lizz

I can only say ,lucky u have gals! Hahahaha. Sorry, gals are really very different from Boys and I suppose that's why there are different parenting styles. Having both a boy and a gal, can see their difference. I doubt I will ever need to use the cane on my gal but my boy is a different story. For my gal, I will close the toilet door and switch off the light and she won't go in. For my boy, I had to lock it. By this age during my boy's time, I had to change my fans to ceiling fans. My gal hardly approached the fan and I just needed to tell her and she move off. She may be fierce and a chilli padi but she is more teachable than my quiet boy.

Oh, I love gals.
happy.gif
if I have a 3rd kid, it better be a gal. Hahaha.

mashy,
it's quite true, my boy was touching the fans ~ 1yo no matter how many NO's we said.
omg, you are thinking of 3rd one !!

Re: probotics
I just started feeding Ryan childlife one
selling at GNC for $70++
I got fr iherb at $20++
my frend's PD also gave my frend's girl childlife but multi vits

manage to steal some time to come in.

Reira,
is zac ok now?

hmm i also want to know which supplements is good for baby. Zac has fallen sick twice in the last 2 months since he turned 1. Both are viral attacks.

I've been feeding him a variety of fish (omega, Vit A, Vit E), vegetables and fruits (Vit C) but he still falls sick.

I am thinking of feeding him probiotics, and some multi vits, i see other Bps selling colostrum - is that any good?

really need to build up his immune system before he starts school next year. any recommendations of brands and where to get them please?

PD mentioned seven seas brand and emphasize that should get those with higher level of trace minerals like zinc etc.

mashy,
How true abt the fan thing .. hahaa .. ovann will still go & play with it even when his fingers kena from the blades b4, luckily din bleed. He got a shock, walked off and came back to the fan again after 3 mins.

Btw, he's running a high fever now ... shld i on the aircon or blow the fan? He sweats easily and i'm afraid he'll 'gum dio' if i on the fan.

MASHY

thanks for the concern. Brought sam to dr ong tdy n seems he got a throat infection. No diarrhoea. Just got nose drops, flu med, cough syrup, phlegm med, zyrtec. Poor fellow! I'm holding the cough n phlegm meds till he starts coughing.

As for probiotics n cod liver oil, dr ong's sceptical abt it. He says no harm but he joked tgat if i find something that works to boost sam's immunity, let him know n he'll buy shares n get rich
sad.gif
. Anyway enfagrow supposedly has probiotics liao haha

BABIESME

my mil also very into lingyang

JOEY, MASHY

BABYMAKING

my boy has not yet found the fan blades yet... but he will keep going to press the button and he'll stand on the base and shake the whole fan. Few times the whole fan topple and hang by the wire!
