(2009/08) August 2009 MTBs

hi gals

in a quandary now - still the same situation with bb heartbeat dropping till very low during a contraction. the thing is..it doesn't happen with every contraction, and so far bb hb rebounces back quickly.

now we got to make a decision as to whether to continue monitoring in hospital, or discharge & go back daily for CTG monitoring till as long as possible.

we went for 2nd & 3rd opinions in private sector and both gynaes said...no need for hospitalisation...but we are paranoid that the next contraction..bb hb won't rebounce and by the time we realise that..we are too far from the hospital to do any intervention.

we came up with the following scenarios...if you were in my shoes, which option would you choose?

Option 1
discharge now at week 33 & monitor daily CTG at hospital/clinic & a) deliver at week 34 (risking pre term) or b) deliver at week 35/36 (less pre term risks)

Option 2
remain in hospital till week 34 & deliver at week 34

option 3
remain in hospital as long as possible till week 36 or even further and deliver then.

Which option will you choose? option 1a, 1b, 2 or 3?

chintz,
i stay in yishun..

pris,
there is no place for her to stay...but she will still want come over in the daytime
i juz dun her to be involved....everything she also got comments...dats wat i hate!

dolliepollie,
which part of yishun did u buy?

jul,
i also ask hubby to drink half for me...hahaa

babymaking,
wats the risk of delivery at 34weeks?
how heavy is ur zachary now?

babymaking, for Option 1, how far away r u from the nearest clinic / hospital for CTG monitoring?
if not too inconvenient to get there, i'd choose Option 1(b).

o/w, i'd choose Option 3.

essentially, keep the baby in for as long as possible.

Pris

Huh? Dun scare me. My MIL fed me Korean ginseng in porridge water 3x when I had spotting in the 1st tri. And I kena the Korean ginseng powder in herbal chkn soup in the 2nd tri. That was when I had the breathless thing. Aiyoh..

bbmaking,
how much is the daily hospital bill ? option 3 seems to be the safest deal. if bb comes out and stay icu, also need to pay $ wo ...

whatever decision you make, got pros and cons ...

babymaking

I will also choose Option 3, if $$ is not a prob.

sharon

I am asking HB to drink ALL. Esp after Pris said abt the Korean ginseng. I nvr like to take much Chinese herbs in the first place. Not b/c I dun believe. I do believe their properties, but I dun trust the source (all the scary China stories) & the person preparing it, unless it is prescribed by a qualified sinseh.

sunshine:
he borrow $$ from me say his company need him to buy eg: water flask, coffee and some things like battery. and he say he got not enough $$ when he like only took pay 2 - 3 days ago... i know he got $$ one. so i just hack care. and when he got $$ he is seldom at home. means early in the morning go out den 12am plus den come home......

sharon:
i bought blk 3XX yishun ring rd. :)
those 4storeys high maisonette.

baby:
i will most likely choose 1b.

shirley,

I can't even be bothered with her! She thinks she's so smart and knows everything.

Actually half of the clothes were new ones bot by my siblings. The other half were given by well-meaning frens. There was once when my fren gave me a used rocker, and mil asked me where i got it. I told her pple give de.

Then i started to wash bb's clothes, both old & new ones. She saw liao & thot those were all old clothes, that's why made dat kind of comments.

Who is she to interfere if i want new or old things for bb? If i want everything 2nd hand de she also has no right to interfere.

dolliepollie,
the flats there are big n u shld buy at a relatively low price....
happy.gif

im waiting for my jade spring near there

staying in hospital

pros
-3 times daily ctg monitoring
-eary intervention if anything goes wrong

cons
-tiring for hubby to travel up & down here
-tiring for me as not enuff rest due to other patients/nurses doing 4 hrly checks/strange surroundings/bed/ poor nutrition - hospital food sucks
-mentally bored
-expensive
-according to pte gynaes - not necessary
- no guarantee that early intervention can be done.

daily CTG monitoring
Pros
-regain control of life
- better nutrition/ enuff rest

Cons
- inconvenient travelling Semb to KKH, KKH back to Semb daily
- waiting time at hospital

delivery at 34 weeks
pro
- LIVE pre term baby better than DEAD full term baby
- no more worry abt bb hb stopping

Cons
- bb may have to stay in ICU (or may not) no body can predict

Delivery at week 36...same pro & cons as Week 34 except
week 36 - lesser chance of bb having to stay in ICU

-- the longer bb remains in womb, the higher chance bb hb will drop and NOT rebounce as contractions will increase nearer to term.

Hi. Just to share. Kiddy PAlace now having 20% storewide sale for members and for Avent bottles if you bring in your old bottles for trade in, you get an additional 10% on top of the 20%. Very worth it!

babymaking, what's baby's weight now? do docs think he's ready to be born?

i think the pros u mentioned of delivering at week 34 are very, very persuasive.

sharon:
yeah. bought it at S$370K though valuation is not out. but base on previous transaction from hdb sold ard S$390K.. and the family who is selling is shifting to some bungalow in Thomson. so they need to quickly sell the house out. but well, today they just did their valuation. hopefully the price i bought will be lower den wad it is. cause the flooring ALL must go. staircase must redo. the only thing im worried about is when i get my keys in ard DEC. will there be good contractors willing to do the reno for me as i know alot Malaysian will go back for new year..

Jade spring will only TOP in 2011 right? hope to see u soon den.. haha. so which sch will u put ur baby in to?

Chintz:
Wah, u stay very near to the swimming pool hoh!! haha

chintz,
now i stay at 800+, near khatib mrt...my mum's place
waiting for my own BTO...jade spring...hope can b ready by end of next yr
happy.gif

babymaking,
how's ex is the daily charge?
every option got its pros n cons
can ur own doppler monitor bb's heartbeat at home?

dolliepollie,
i tink im out of 1km for chongfu....hope im within 1km for northland...else i will pay $ be chongfu alumni n let my boy study there...hehee
KS mummy...plan already
happy.gif

tink reno in dec not a prob...only close to chinese new year then pose a problem cos many contractors take break then

its a good price for a big place...ppl pay ard $400k for 4 room only at good location

sharon:
hey i'll be shifting to blk 861 on 1aug as i need to hand over the keys for my boon keng flat on 05.08.09 its oso near khatib mrt for temporary stay till my new house ready.. maybe can meet up yeah? hahaha

babymaking, if u feel happier to stay at hm then mayb go for option 1 then deliver bb either 34-36wks whenever ur gynae recommends.

Babymaking, I think Option 3 is better, as for the $$, opt for 4 or 6 bedded ward. At least stay till week 35 & see what gynae said suggest.

sharon:
yup, the buyer bought our house at S$520K for a good location. but hb paid S$370K for a bigger flat. still not sure whether yishun is a good location or not but so far all amenities are ard and walking distance. so i guess i'll have to start to adapt the new place lo.

babymaking,

if I am you I will evaluate 2 priorities - the risks of my bb and financial.

actually option 1b can be good but I scare daily traveling to and fro to hospital will be strainous for you so you got to know your body well and also what is doc opinion of you traveling daily up and down?

but if bb is not stable i think got to sacrifice $$ and take option 3.

bbmaking: just my pt of view hor.... all this stress on ur body, whether its physical stress of travelling so much or the stress of not getting good sleep and no good food, also affects baby in a way also what..

and as u say, baby may not need ICU when he is born.. its 50- 50 cHANCE.

what does ur instinct tell u?

dolliepollie,
yup yup...can arrange meet up
happy.gif

if u drive, then 300+ there is quite ok i feel...if dun drive, juz need take feeder service to yishun mrt...

y u shift fr boon keng to yishun...ur parents or PIL stay in yishun?

Sharon:
hey u wanna chat in msn? guess our topic abit off here.. hahahaha
well, i dun drive but walking distance to northpoint is near.. tried it on sunday.. my current house in boon keng is 4rooms flat. and hb got alot of things so with the baby comming we intend to get a bigger house.. FIL is staying with us. and my mum is staying CCK. but hb dun like west side.. cause he's working in Jurong island and he thinks that there got air pollution.... so yishun is oso another alternative comapred from hougang and serangoon. plus the houses in yishun is VERY CHEAP.

my msn is [email protected]

dollie: huh? his company needs him to buy all those stuff, then ask him get the $ from his company first lah.

he pai seh to askcompany but not paiseh to ask his DIL meh....

BabyS:
the thing is.. i think no one call him on the phone.. is he ownself put the ring tone and make up stories. cause everytime hb not at home he will have this kinda pattern one. and he say the person in charge will transfer $$ to him after he help them buy. he still can say is the boss ask him to borrow from us. cause when he's on the line he will speak softly. but when borrow $ speak loud loud. say "cannot always ask me borrow $$ from my DIL la. my son not at home, this is the last time im gonna help u." but the last time is always never ending one.

regg, sorry to hear abt it..but dun worry so much.i know of a mum who delivered her bb at 32wks because of high bp, but both bb n mum r doing well now.think her son is already 4 or 5mths old now le...rest more k?

babymaking, i wld hav went with option 3 if $ isnt an issue..but after reading your pros n cons i think i wld go with option 1...a premature bb is beta than risking bb life...do stay strong ya? I m sure all will b well.
happy.gif

that's the thing - i'm really in a quandary cos i want bb to stay in me as long as possible yet the FEAR is what if this is a wrong decision (whether stay in hospital or discharge) that we end up with a DEAD full term bb?

on the other hand, can we live with ourselves if we go for early delivery at week 34 and bb end up having to suffer in ICU?

both scenarios have the same %tage of happening.

babys,
i also worry abt the stress of daily travelling vs the stress of nt enuff rest/nutrition in hospital.

sharon
bb is 2.2kg and looks ok for delivery at week 34 earliest. our own doppler is useful to detect bb hb at that point in time, but unlike a ctg, it's not predictive. A ctg is predictive in the sense that it monitors over a longer period of time (45 min or more) and any trend is more likely predictive of future event.

babymaking, go with your instinct and what your family n gynae thinks the best. will pray for a smooth delivery for you ya!

sharon, dollie,
don't mind adding me at chintz_82[at]hotmail.com
at work can't access msn :p

talk to u gals tonite
happy.gif

babymaking,
if u r worried...then best is u stay in hospital to gif urself a peace of mind? anyway its 2 more weeks before gynae decide whether to deliver ur bb anot?

babymaking, i m also on frequent ctg monitoring twice a wk n ultrascan for bloodflow n fluid lvl once a wk..plus gynea checkup weekly, which makes it 3 appts a wk..hav been on such a routine since the wk before..it can get really tiring travelling up n down for the appts, but it has slowly blended into part of our daily life n the constant monitoring each visit has given us a peace of mine.even though we r tired out, but at least we r happy to know that our little one is doing great inside.i was told that i should feel bb move at least once every hour, if not i should straight away head for the a&e...so i guess go with what your instinct tell u, i believe a mother wil always want the best for her child...

babymaking: I was watching this show on discovery home and health and it was about this mum who was going in for her no.2 (c sec)..

first kid, she had to go for urgent c sec, cos everytime there was a contraction, it sorta squeezed baby so much that the heart beat dropped and took a while to recover... they call it a tetanic contraction..

maybe thats what u are experiencing? strong contractions?

babymaking

Actually it's true that better to have early 34 week BB than dead 38 week BB. Must go with ur heart at the end of the day. Coz it's ur BB, it's what u've been dreaming & staying strong for so long. Must be ur own decision ok?

thks gals for all the advice given. still discussing with hubby - on a lighter side of things...we have been "discussing" this issue for more than 3 days already..and have been flipflopping between the options. *wryly*

yep, the thing is bb fetal movements is also reduced, if not on CTG, he moves like maximum 3 times a day - luckily we have our own doppler, we check like every hour or so in between the CTG monitoring at the hospital.

yeah, the contractions cause bb hb to drop from like 150 bpm to 60bpm, basically due to cord compression (something similiar to cord strangling except the cord is nt ard the bb neck, but either in his hands, between the uterine wall & some part of his body)...that's why it doesn't happen all the time...just with some contractions.

hi sharon,
