Sweetmama

that place is tough, all quite ex. I used to work near there too. Last time I placed my kid at Apollo centre and I paid $900 for infant care. Childcare should be cheaper.

U can try Cherie hearts at tan quee lan street. It's an mrt stop away only at bugis. My friend's kid went there and it was good. Cheap too. Last heard was $400+ after subsidy but not sure abt the price now.

Piggy,
Thanks. Will check out both kindy. I've a tough time looking for good christian kindy. so far only know of CGM at cck. the rest are like catholic kindys.

Sweetmama,
If you put yr kid in CC, then dun need nanny already rite? the money to nanny can go to CC instead.

RE: Child's Development
Actually I think it also depends on kids. My sil's son is taken care by her inlaws & attends a normal playgroup. He can speak very well before 2 years old. He can even read story books & memorise stories & rhymes without his parents forcing him to memorise. He just read & remember. My sil also just sending him to PCF kindy next year even though both parents are high income earners. This boy's fren even more amazing. He can speak v well at 18mths. I saw him at my nephew's 1st birthday & was amazed.

I know of another girl who is turning 3 yrs old next year. She's still speaking like a baby. Couldn't make out what she says at all & next year she's going to school. I heard from her mum that her son was also like tat. Only started talking confidently & more after he went to school. Now he's even better than his peers.

I think whatever we're giving the kids now, is just to let them have an earlier headstart. It doesn't mean that they'll be far more intelligent than their peers. I read somewhere that those children who dun have an earlier headstart in academic will still be able to catch up with their peers when they reach certain age, some even better than those who attend enrichment since young.

I've seen parents making the kids attend classes all day long, 7 days a week, hoping their kids will be those top scholars one day. In the end, it backfires. The kid couldn't cope & did very badly. Some kids couldn't handle emotionally & mentally & break down; having social problems & parents still dunno.

I think everything in moderation is the best. Just do whatever you think is good for them & don't get too caught up in the kiasu syndrome of s'poreans.

good morning!

i agree with what zen said!
there was a newspaper article recently about kids attending all sorts of enrichment classes nowadays.

personally i feel there are different requirements/growth for different age group. for our babies this age, they can learn very fast like a sponge! so whatever 'enrichment' we give them, they will pick it up at an amazing speed. which leads to us parents thinking that the kids are very intelligent and a lot of enrichment is indeed very good.

but young children at this age also need to spend a lot of time doing nothing..just playing. this is to nurture another part of them which is creativity. this may seem unimportant now because we can't see immediate results. but is essential in their growing up years.

just my 2 cents worth =)

Zen,

cos i remember u mentioned u lookin for Christian Kindy and happen Pris mentioned abt it:p

yes i agree with u tt it also depends on the kids.. for me i am not expecting Kyler to a scholars or top his class every yr la i cant even do tt so all the more i wun expect it a mus for him..

for me i jus feel tt be it he is able to do well in sch anot it my duty to provide him with a basic learning environment
happy.gif
for me bobian cos my #2 coming and i suppose him goin to CC is a better choice in fact the teachers in the CC did mentioned tt at their age group it not so much of acadamic prog...n i feel tt sendin him to a CC n make him more independent and discipline unlike with grandparent usu they will gve in to him
sad.gif

the key is the sch ard our area quite limited n mostly long waiting list so i tink all these factor contribute to our decisions n limit our choices

Hi piggy,
you can consider CC in taman jurong area, if u don't mind travelling. Am intending to put my gal in Gracefields Childcare.
Half day is about $310 after subsidy.
Full day is about $475 after subsidy.

Quite a number of the K2 students are going to Rulang / Shuqun Primary School ... so i thought the teachers and curriculum should be okay :p

good morning.................

mashy, thanks for your recommendation. $680 is way to expensive for me too. I'm looking around $400 to the max of $500.

i wish there are more childcare in commonwealth

piggy,
good to know that you have a confirmed place in LV. U starting kyler to full day cc next jan ? do they allow parents to join the class for the first 3 days ?
u r right, going to a good primary school depends on luck and the parents
happy.gif

sharon,
pediped also have sandals but like what you said the designs very limited. I will let my boys wear socks if they are wearing covered shoes. How about clarks?

mashy,
I did not know IMM got colette factory outlet...which floor?

Pre-nursary enrichment class

Ya, i read abt that article in the papers too. The 1st thot that came to my mind is why are these parents depriving their kids from their childhood by sending them to various classes at such a young age? As i was reading it, i make a note not to do that to ovann.

Then a friend called me and said she has some toys wanted to pass over to ovann. Then we chat a little and she mentioned her nephew, who's a mth older than ovann, can do this and that already cos the mummy spent alot of time teaching the kiddo. I was exclaimng 'oh really? so clever ...' etc, but at the same time, i was secretly trying to compare ovann with him. Can ovann do that as well? No? Die lah .. how come like dat? And i started to think shld i send him for more classes other than the playgroup?

Then i took a step back and think .. hey, i'm doing exactly what those parents are doing in the article!

Haiyo ..... much as i want to refrain myself from sending ovann for more classes, i know there's this little bit of kiasuism in me, that i'm afraid that he'd lose out to his peers if i dun do wat the other parents are doing whenever some friends or parents commented that their kids can do this or that.

So i think hor .. we hv to understand that kids develope at their own pace and that ultimatly they will catch up. So for the time being, ovann shall play & play & play

JOeey,
nope i am intendin to sent Kyler to CC after CNY ard Mar be4 i pop if not during maternity i dun have time to monitor if he is ok etc.. yes i tink they allow i forgot liao mys double check:p

I also sometimes wonder if i am a good mother. Did not really send Aaden for enrichment classes, sometimes lazy to do flashcards with him as well (he would usually eat the flashcards, destroy it...). Most of the time i let him play and play. Or maybe i am just plain lazy.

If any mummies have good playgroup to intro in Sengkang, Punggol, Hougang area, let me know lah. My colleague sent her daugthers to Sonrise Montisorri, seems not bad. but she is not sure about their playgroup scheme.

pegsfur / joycec
haha! my boy also just play, play and play.
+ watch auntie drama shows like ai! he can hum along to the wah meng ti song lor... guess that's his daily exposure to music! keke!

oh edric love the taiwanese 爱 songs as well, he will shake his body and dance too. during my pregnancy i watch this show so i tot maybe that the reason lah, when he born he know the song.

april, thanks so much for the webbie!! Didnt know have such website.. *suaku* i wana ask hor..the prices stated on the website are before subsidy? Cos i check my 1st skool its only 615sgd+..so after subsidy its only 315sgd+ for full day child care? So cheap compared to CH??? Like so much difference..so isit some childcare not eligible for subsidy? Sorry, i m so blur at this...

Pegsfur, very normal!! I also feel the same..subconsciously i will compare too..so now, i dun ask abt others development so i dun add stress to myself as well as my gal..haha...

Joycec/kiki, my gal also play and play! Haha...my parents say let her play if not next time go sch cannot play already..like very poor thing... :p

Piggy,

Ya, i agree pre-schs in our area quite limited.
sad.gif
I think it's a good choice for you to put kyler in CC since yr #2 coming. easier for yr in-laws also. and since yr sil's daughter will be attending some cc as kyler, they'll hv company & can fetch both the same time.

cherrios,
my #1 is in MFS and yes, after subsidy it's 315, he's in toddler class with 22 students and 4 teachers. There is enrichment class too, ABC Music & Me, additional $85 per month.

sweetmama,
u r going by coach to ipoh, wa ... can prepare toys, (or iphone?) to keep bb occupied ...

joey, what is MFS? gee...

we dont have iphone..so maybe will bring along some small toys to entertain her.. just scare she poopoo..v troublesome to change diaper in a bus

cherrios,
i find this link veri useful, lots of info articles.
those franchise CC price will be bit high lah. u need to go down n look at environment and see if they hv food menu, where the kids hv their meal and take nap. chat with ctr mgr/principal, see how teachers handle the kids to assess.

piggy:: abt LV @ IBP.. they told me they dun hv enrichment classes (or prog) for 18mths de leh.. ): oni nursery onwards niah.
anyways, ur firm to sign up there le rite? still gg to their open hse this sat?

MFS is like the normal childcare rate.. Little Skool House (LSH) is the more expensive one...

Joeey,
which outlet u enrol ur #1?
i go to the 1 below my void deck no gd plus waitin list den JP 1 the waiting list is soooo scary..

i love LV and LSH both far from my house. LSH have a new branch at Khoo Teck Phuat Hospital, i love the greenery environment. everythg is new.. Orchid country club is great too.

Kiki,
my friend jus told me she came back from narita airport in Jul dun have POtato farm ther
sad.gif
sad.... u bott from narita be4??

piggy
yes yes confirm have! I saw in Narita when I stop-over there in early oct.
happy.gif

I think was 840 or 810 yen per box... so you compare and see if outside selling cheaper or not.
and they were giving free samples!!! I walked around a few times to take lor... kekeke! cheapo singaporeans!

joeey/sweetmama: my nanny also charge me $750, used to be $700. then when my baby reach 6mths, she raised to 750.

I am looking for CCC, but most pro will enroll when he turn 24 mths, he still cannot walk, so dun wan to enrol him too early.

for those staying in west.... there will be another new CC opening at IBP frm nov i tink... n they hvg an open hse on 20 nov.. i tink their fee is abt $1200/mth (b4 subsidy)..... will prolly go take a look oso (b4 i decide LV @ IBP or CH @ corporation..or this mulberry).

but abit pi-gu-yang..bahaha~ frm $500-600++ de.. go n find until $700-900++ de!!! *retard*

but ya.. i tink ya.. get 3 quotations to shortlist better!!! lol~
