(2009/03) March 2009 MTBs

pinksorbet,
gracie too. Not sure if this will work for your baby but I'll just share my experience here anyway. Hopefully it can help you.

She was breastfed for the longest of time so she naturally rejected the bottle. Wasn;t a problem before but now that I am going back to work and weaning her off from the breast I really need her to take the bottle. And like what fireangel said previously regarding night feeds, I agree that babies will habituate to whatever undesired behaviour ... in this case, insisting on being breastfed only, because they know that as long as they throw tantrums mommies will cave in anyway. So what I did was refused to latch her and to deal with her hunger by giving her other food. And to keep introducing the bottle to her meanwhile. She retaliated by tossing the bottle away everytime. I also directed her attention (from my breasts) to other things to distract her. e.g. bring her outside for a walk. This worked very well. After an entire day of not taking milk she grudgingly took it eventually but just for a bit, 30ml. But good enough cos at least she tried. Then the next morning, instead of latching her when she awoke I gave her the bottle again and this time she hungrily drank the whole bottle. by today which is the 4th day she got very excited and made the classic milk grunts upon seeing me take the bottle out. Hehehehe

alfafa - hmm, i think the case is different...my boy actually weaned himself off breasts many months ago. I have stopped breastfeeding since he was 9mths.

Part of the reason why i wanted to stop bf-ing early was that he hates milk, be it through bottle or breasts...it acts like a sort of discouragement for me to continue bf-ing as my attention was needed on other things. Right now, we have to force him to drink milk on spoon since he doesn't want bottles at all. The moment he sees the bottle, he cries and edged away from the bottle. He also don't bother sucking the teat at times, just pushed the bottle away even before we manage to insert the teat into his mouth.

We went to see PD and he advised us that as long as he's eating well, its ok. Feeding him has become a nightmare since he was two months old...yes two months. He is a very difficult to feed baby.

Now solids too...not v keen but at least he will still eat while we have to entertain him throughout the whole feeding.

He is a very lightweight baby, only 7.8kg at 10mths. PD says still ok..so i shouldn't be worrying too much i know..but i can't help it. I tell myself as long as he's healthy its all that matters.

Now i tell myself not to be so stressed with his daily milk intake already, as this has been my constant source of worry everyday. If he drinks so be it, if he don't as long as he's taking sufficient solids, i guess its ok.

Seabreeze
Ok, thanks will go take a look. Though I'd prefer to wait till she's at least 2 to give her cod liver oil, as there are risks.

Alfafa
Yea, I gave her the laughing cow cheese, and she spat out. Guess it's quite a strong smell.

lenny, Jac,
how did you find it?
happy.gif
It's quite famous so I thought I'll give it a shot.

Missycandy,
alamak, no chance to meet super K liao. She's getting prettier and prettier btw. Beautiful lashes!

Babe,
can try the sandwich cheese as it doesn't smell as strong I think. Feed it with bread?

Pinksorbet,
Oic ic. You are good man. I don;t have that kind of patience to feed milk by spoon. :p I agree with the PD actually. It's ok that babies are on the light weight side as long as they are healthy. Look at us adults, don;t we all come in diff shapes and sizes? But all healthy what :-D

Re: Bibinogs
Do let us know how's you like the class and how they charge. Thanks.

I'm waiting to send Shayna to Growing Up Gifted which has a similar baby programme and is nearer to me. Charges min 2 terms, i.e. 8 wks @ $560 for 2 x 1.5 hrs/ week.

Pinksorbet,

Bree is now 10mths and 2 weeks.. she weighs only 7.8kg..

haiz.. i am also helpless in trying to feed her porridge.. tried silver fish with carrot, beef with carrot or pumpkin.. no luck so far..

i had better luck with pumpkin, sweet corns and red lentils, oatmeal and prunes, rice cereal with cranberry and apple. she is ok with Heinz pumpkin, beef and potato mixed with her rice cereal.
sad.gif

running out of ideas on what to feed her.. not sure if i can start pasta cos she will choke on little cubes of pumpkin and carrots.

re: Cheese
Mommies.. what kind of cheese are you mommies adding or feeding ur babies.. i saw that the salt content is really high.. i myself gave up on slcied cheese.. kraft etc..

i read about organic mild cheddar cheese..but i am not sure about the salt content.. haven't tried it myself.

lenny, babe,
I want to try JG too, and GUG. Will check those out before I sign on any package.

Mangogal,
I use normal kraft regular sandwich cheese. I usually feed it in a sandwich form as described in my previous post. No need to melt. I only melt it if I am using that as a coat e.g. I put a slice on top of freshly cooked rice (I added a little bit of water to soften the grains) so it melts very easily. Once melted I simply fold it into the rice.

Lenny,
I am gradually letting go of more and more inhibitions now that she is almost 1 yr old. In fact I no longer dip the table food in water first to wash them. But of course, I do not intentionally add salt into her food lah.

Hi Alfalfa..

Good to go for trial before any commitment.. different ppl or even babies have different preference on the classes even though they are almost the same. the most important thing is for our babies to enjoy the sessions. if you are going to JG.. let me know ya? will be great to have our girls as classmates.

Oh ya.. before i forgot.. CONGRATS on getting a job.. hope its works out for you and all the best.. i know u are one capable career woman .

Re: Lunch at Swensons..
I will KIV.. Bree is running a temperature this morning and has not slept last night.. she had been crying every hour. i suspect is teething.

she is having running nose and sneezing as well. if she is not better.. i doubt i will be able to join u gals for lunch.

update here,

She is 11 mths going to be. She knows how to lift up her legs when we are wearing pant for her and will also raise her arm for us to wear top for her. She can bid goodbye and byebye and says mumm mumm when she is hungry. She will also point to the direction or food if she wants in her demand.
She is still learning to walk. too afraid to walk, only can stand without support for 2 seconds then she will sit down.
Too sad, she like my maid and my mil more than me. I am too too sad...

k i'm coming too missed the last one..

alfafa, haha what a day. this sat is a busy day for me! else i can join. I went once with my #1, i do agree with lenny that it's not quite impressive. hehe perhaps they have changed. not sure.

Anyone wants to try PLAYDAYS? I signed this up for my #1, and thinking of signing up for Trishelle too.

http://www.playdays.com.sg/

I'm gg to bring her for a trial, if anyone wants to join, let me know, see if we can organise something. if not, i'll bring her myself probably on the 27th feb. HEH!

Re Bibinogs:

So far Jovan has attended 4 lessons. Each lesson will start with 15 mins of free play (play toys), then saying 'Hi' to everyone, then singing and story, then art work (painting with hands/sponge), then teabreak (babies given a drink and some puffs). Then tr will blow bubbles and there will be zoo phonics. The last 15 mins will be Chinese lesson.

I am trying to get Jovan to listen to the teacher. He is usually crawling all over or distracted by the mirror and mat. The other babies who have undergone more lessons are really attentive.

But still, I learn a lot fm the lessons and try to reinforce at home. The teachers are really nice (Tr Yenni and Tr Michelle). There was once Jovan threw a tantruma not long after the lesson started. The trs tried to coax him and allowed for a makeup lesson. We guess he didn't like the pong pong and subsequent lessons, the trs didn't use it.

As for the charges- Weekday classes are ard $38 per lesson. Plus registration fee. Plus deposit of $100+. All in all, I paid $500+. The deposit will be refunded when u discontinue.

Didn't try the other schs, but heard that more or less the same. Like the small size in Bibi (max 8 babies) and serene ctr not too far fm my mum's place. But unlikely to continue with the next term cos going back to work and my mum is not confident enough to bring him there. Sigh...

hey guys.. most probably i have to come late tomorrow, i'm feeding her lunch at home cos find it a hassle to bring her food out.. start ordering your food without me ya :D

donroxx, Wow wow ! your darling can walk !!
