(2009/03) March 2009 MTBs

for baby Jo's birthday party, still have not started to plan anything..althou mouth keep on saying..busy with my BP :p

i also will order 2 cakes, 1 for myself and 1 for baby Jo..baby Jo is only 1day after my bday! but dh ask if we can share 1 bday cake..i dun wan..also for the venue..headache..anyone can suggest any good place? intend to book a event hall from any hotels..then how abt the cakes? any recommendations?

so now most babies can stay awake for 4-5 hours is it?
wake up from nap around 2pm and sleep again for bedtime at 7..that's a very long time..

miss83, my boy cannot stay awake for 4-5 hours in the afternoon. he can only stay awake up to 4 hrs in the evening before going to sleep at 8.30pm. even if we bring him out in the weekends, he will be cranky and tired after 4-5hrs crying wanted to sleep..

ya i mean from last nap to bedtime can last 4-5 hours..no wonder if i put him to bed after 3-3.5 hours he will scream so much..and before i notice he hasnt yawned at all..i guess he is not sleepy yet

miss83, ya maybe ur boy is not sleepy yet..if he is sleepy, he will keep crying/get cranky by himself. even when u carry him, if he still crying means he is tired n wants to sleep liao..don worry k..slowly u will understand him..so r u SAHM?

hey any moms know where to buy those fun head-gear for our babies to wear to parties? I want to dress mine up like an angel so looking for halo (eg hairband with circle attached above)

Inya

1 year old party
I just called up 3 monkeys cafe for a quotation. Will share with all when I get them.

jo's mummy
thanks..abit confused with his extension of wake time length during afternoon. because I have a bedtime routine 30 mins before he sleeps.. if I've to watch out for the sign, then by the time he's tired I can't do the routine. must put him straight to bed. maybe for a few days I will watch the sign until i know how long he can stay up during afternoon then go back to the usual bedtime routine. maybe later i just keep it really short after I've seen the sign.
he's really growing up...he used to have 3 naps and now only 2 naps..and mommy has to adapt to his changes too

Inya,
Fish + apple taste good together. The first time i feed my boy cod fish, i added apple to lessen the fishy smell and he finished the whole bowl.

Fish w carrot is good too. Or sweet potato.

As for cereal, I give it to my boy together with fruit puree only in the morning nowadays. Lunch and dinner, he will be taking millet + veg + fish or chicken. U have reminded me to give a fruit puree for lunch/dinner too.

thanks for the advice!

Fish & apple sounds good! I tried cod fish but so smelly, BB didnt like the taste. maybe better idea to mix with sweet stuff.

Anybody started to give apple or orange juice? which brand and when usually give?

Cod fish smelly? I never given my boy threadfin but i always thot threadfin more fishy than codfish. I remembered my nephew always smell fishy whenever he took threadfin but my boy doesn't smell fishy after taking cod fish..hehe..I will try threadfin when i go back singapore for CNY and see which is more fishy on him..

Apple juice - I used the juice from steaming apple and mixed with 5 parts water whenever i steam apple for his breakfast.

Strange. My boy has been sleeping since 4.30pm. Normally, he would have waken latest by 5.30pm n by this time, he would have just finished his dinner.. hmm...

Jo's mummy,
I was told the pneumococal jabs will come in at the end of the yr. Think I need to give the polyclinic a call to check its availability. U can bring baby along for the weaning talk cos that time some parents brought. but i guess, like me, u already know most of the stuff. The only imp thing I learnt is abt giving fully cooked egg yolk at ard 8-9mths then egg white as well as to make sure that we soak ikan bilis and dried scallops 1st b4 giving baby. Many things we have already talked abt at this forum

re: fishy smell

i think how fresh the fish, the type of fish both even age of the fish can contribute to the smell.

recently bought threadfin for baby. it smell fine , the flesh was firm and semi translucent (aka very fresh la). but after cooking, it smelt a little fishy.

next day went to another stall to buy threadfin and the fishmonger told us it because the first fish was not mature enough. so this time we got a bigger fish. No more fishy smell (still got the smell of the fish but is the 'sweet' smell not the 'yuck fishy' smell).

Agnes, wher r u now? would like to ask how u steam the apple?

Jacqueline..thanks for the info..ya better check the availability 1st...then abt the weaning class..think gonna give it a miss then..since we hav so many lecturer here..hehe..

pinkdemoness : i don think the pneumococcal jabs is claimable from medisave..not sure..if u hav any new info..pls share with us ya..thanks!

fishy smell: usually i buy threadfin at fairprice n will check the packing date..when cutting the fish into portions, i do smell fishy..after bb Jo taken his porridge with threadfin, i can smell his mouth is fishy too..hehe..i havnt tried cod fish yet..but recently i added some wolfberry n organic jap pumpkin..taste superb!

jo'smummy,
am in shanghai. I used to steam halfed apple w skin on. But then i noticed that the juice has a of bit shiny layer on top. I supposed that could come from the waxy surface of the apple? So now, i remove the skin, cut into cubes and add a little water before putting into steamer. Quite fast abt 10min.

Fishy smell. Fresh fish shouldnt have too strong a smell. Am actually referring to our LO who will smell after taking fish. hehe..

Has anyone added SiShen powder into your LOs meals? I bought one bottle but still unopen. When can we start to give?

anges

i give bb sishen powder since 6months or 7 months i bot from EYS..will add in his cereal or sometimes porridge

Re: SiShen powder
I bought the instant one (brown rice and sishen in 1 bottle) and boy took it when 6 mths+. Now onto 2nd bottle (fm Yu Ren Sheng) but only gave occasionally cos letting him experiment so many different types of food now. Si Shen is believed to 'Kai Wei' - make them have better appetite, I think.

Re: Fish
My mum refuses to give baby cod fish, saying it has too much oil. ??

re:si shen fen
i also gave to my boy when he started porridge at 6 mths...mine is brown rice with si shen...put into his porridge n cook..

re:pnemococcal
i know previously cant use medisave but recently heard many talking abt using medisave for it leh..i also dunno..maybe go check cpf website ba...

Mummies who r asking abt e pneumococcal jab at polyclinic,

I had brought my gal to bedok Polyclinic for the jab. I used medisave for the jab. It cost $165. But you got to pay $7.70 for doc fee and etc. 1 bad thing abt going polyclinic is the waiting time. I had booked an appt @ 10.30am but only got the jab at abt 12pm. If you baby first time went for the jab, you got to see doc first for assesment before can take the jab. thus, waiting time for seeing doc is quite long. And 1 bad point is that you got to carry and hold ur baby urself and the nurse will do the jab. not like PD, they will carry or hold your baby and do the jab.

I told my hubby I will bring my gal back to PD for other jabs (waiting time shorter) except for pneumococcal jab (take advantage for using medisave).

Mummies take note that 1 yr can only use $300 max for the medisave. Tus, for 3 jabs will exceed the amt. Thus, use ur hubby medisave in order not to pay cash.

happy.gif

i am really very bz with work... dunno when then i can slow down and look more closely at my growing baby
sad.gif

my boy was also sick since October, kenna laryngitis, lots of phlegm and mucus... then ear also kenna infection cos cannot clear phlegm properly...
last month just started him in infantcare centre... he's enjoying himself so much in the centre that everyday when we send him there in the morning, he will just turn away from us, kept looking at the toys and his friends, and refuse to say bye bye to us
but lucky thing is that when i went to pick him every evening, he will quickly crawl to me and demand me to carry and hug him

thought the h1n1 vaccine isn't offered to babies in sg yet?

It is offered in the UK to bbs but here the health care professionals have 2 opposing points of view: take it cos it's supposed to protect vs h1n1, or don't take it cos it's not proven to be safe yet. DH's entire department (and they are frontliners in h1n1 some more) flatly refused to have the vaccine, the basic reason being that they don't wanna be guinea pigs for a vaccine that was developed and released in such a rush and has not had a proper side effect profile or any documented long term effects. So will decline it for bb as well (it's offered in the uk to bb's).

i feel that singapore is a bit more kiasu that other countries, therefore, if MOH said it's safe, it should be safe... my point of view la!

also, the PD that we go to also more towards the careful type... so if she didn't object to my baby taking the vaccine, we will go ahead to do it
happy.gif

missy
i asked my hb (cos he's a researcher should know better) whether to take or not, he said ask PD, let PD decide... hahaha

jtho

yah it's supposedly safe for everyone, that's why the uk dept of health offered it, and gave the same statement as the MOH site. like I said there are two camps on this lah. Ultimately u decide what's best for u and for your child

http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/frequently_asked_questions/vaccine_preparedness/safety_approval/en/index.html - vaccine still being rolled out worldwide, HCP's still advised to report adverse incidents/reactions. That was dated Oct. Don't think 2 months would have made that much of a difference.
