(2009/03) March 2009 MTBs

queenie/lenny n babe:my boy nt really on solids yet..but i gave him those bb biscuits with water in between...n tdy gave him one full bottle of apple sauce...still no signs...no cereals yet though...

Maple, I personally feel that milk is still essential to baby below 1yo. Cannot don't drink milk at all. My mil also agrees with me.

Here's my bb (7mths) schedule:

6am - Latch on
9am - Rice Cereal + fruit Puree + EBM
12pm - EBM
3pm - EBM
7PM - FM
10PM - EBM

The above are the estimated timing (abt +/- 30mins to 1 hr diff). Hope it helps. We do have plan to replace another meal/feed with solid but will never eliminate milk intake.

oh my gal has always been taking very short naps in the day since infant days. About 30-45mins each. I think she's like me... can't sleep in the day heehee. She will usually nap around 9-10am.. awake for 2-3 hours then another short nap. If we bring her out shopping she can stay awake for 4-5hours, then take naps in the car on the way home. She sleeps between 7-8pm at nite and wakes up around 6am in the morning.

pinkdemoness
my gal drinking Nan too but she still poos daily. Could it be due to intro solid thats why your bb didn't poo for 2 days?

Maple,

i agree with Lizy.. Milk is still essential to babies now. even as adults.. Milk is good for us..

we may start solids but still need to give bb milk. cannot take milk out totally.. even if we stop breast feeding.. will still need to give bb formula milk.. or fresh milk when they are older

Cindy - i want to stay there also but have to bring in-laws with me...what to do cos bb K taken care of by mil....then no choice they have to stay with us...i think they are more traditional type wan to stay with son...not like my mum who prefers to stay by herself and have her own flat...yr hubby same as mine, think rent out better...cos i voiced to him the suggestion why not we jus use it as a weekend house...he thinks its stupid...i know its stupid not to rent out also cos can earn extra income...just that i can't overcome the fact tat i do want some privacy too...we can't have the best of both worlds...sighz

maple - baby still gotta have milk...solids is like supplement but milk is the main source of food...

yuki - jus recently tried barley cereal and Baby K seems to take it, but we aren't sure whether he realli likes it or jus cos he's hungry...but then i still got alot of oatmeal cereal left...i let him try barley cereal at my mum's place and oatmeal cereal at my in-laws place to see which he likes...

sorbet:: haha hi 5!! our thoughts are the same, i also suggested using it as a wkend house but hubby say I siao. why waste the other 5 days when no one is living in it? but i really want privacy and time to myself. I don't want to squeeze le. now bb T is taken care by my mil too, she actually suggested we leave her behind to stay with them and then bring her home only on wkends, but i told hubby NO WAY. I would rather send her to infantcare or hire nanny so I could see her everyday. Else I will miss her so much!! Mil say it's okay cause i still have #1's company but it's not the same de loh. And these few days she keep sugesting it again. really very sian. plus, i also want #1 and #2 to bond ma. how to bond when they only see each other on wkends? I don't want my girl to ask me next time, why korkor can go home and I cannot.

maple:: there is still a min amount to be taken de. Think ard 500 to 600mL. So u must try to let her know that bb still young, need all the calcium for good bone and teeth development.

maple
Milk is still important to baby now. Baby still need to gain nutrients from milk and solids are only to supplement.

We are giving him 2 feed of porridge daily, at 12-1pm and 5-6pm. My boy will still want milk 1-2hrs after his porridge feed.

vivian,
u stay in Sembawang ? haha ...

Kome,
oh gosh .. hope Anver is better now .. Fever is no joke, bring him to hosp if still not well yet ..

Ivy, sorry, now only i got your message, had pm u my mobile number ..

Alfafa,
omg, TI also got so much knowledge .. actually, i nvr bought any TI for my holiday except for business trip. but the medical expenses in US is too expensive and it's definitely a MUST to get one with a little one with us .. Wish u done all the preparation now & a good trip to Seoul/US. We will sure miss u.

Jasmin,
how much is the swimming class? finally there's 1 class in sembawang .. haha. But i haven't buy the swim suit for baby leh ..

cindy - haaa...^hi-5 back... yr MIL opposite mine....cos previously my mum actually voiced out that some parents leave their kids with their inlaws/parents to take care of during weekdays and bring them back onli on weekends....like suggesting mayb we can consider this...then we voiced this to my mil she disagrees saying baby needs to be with us..and i agree with my mil...i will miss Baby K so much if i don't get to see him everyday...and i agree with u, let Trishelle bond with kor kor...yr in-laws staying with u bo? or they moving to duxton flat with u all?

Cindy
Haha.....still active but noisy at night.

Donroxx
Saw that your boy is having the same fever as Anver. Their fever up up down down. You too must take care, although i know it is difficult but no choice still have to try.

How i wish now that i am a SAHM. Don't need to go work and can rest with my boy.

Cindy
You also starting your reno right? Anver sick which we cannot go too long to shop for our things so hb and i did not really go and do comparison of the prices. Just go to 1 shop find it acceptable than we just buy them and quickly go back home.

Haha......i also don't wish to rent out the house first as it is my 1st very own house leh. I want to have freedom, coz staying with my mum she will always nag at me lor. :p Also 4 of us squeeze to 1 small room.

Lizy
Thanks. But now we doing reno and at the same time need to look after Anver, quite tiring now.

Sinmey
Yup, will bring him to hospital if by monday he is still not recover after taking the chinese medicine.

Maple
Our babies still need milk, in fact they need milk till they are at least 3 years old.. Esp now they need the iron in the milk as their natural iron stores run low. Iron is important as it supports absorbing calcium - essential for the healthy development of their bones n teeth. Milk should still be their main diet.

My PD recommends 4-5 feeds of milk a day (180-210ml per feed) from 4-6mths, 3-4 feeds (7-9mths 200-240ml). But it may varies for babies.

For my boy, He takes abt 2 feeds of solids a day. Be it, porridge, cereals or fruit/veg purees. I still give him about 600-800ml of EBM/FM a day.

Hi Pinksorbet / Cindy,

Re. shifting to new home
I also dun wanna bring in-laws to my new place too(not that they have a reason to stay with us cos we actually just bought a flat opposite their block).
Now my bb is being cared for by a bbsitter at my opposite blk. For me, having freedom and staying in my own place is very important. Furthermore, that time like cindy, i also bu she de to rent out my flat to let other people stay in it first. hahaha
Pinksorbet, my bb.. is 6mths 4weeks old. He's only 6.845kg.

lizy,

Thanks for your compliments. The appointments are good... minimal time spent and lesser time for viruses to attack.

wow, so many mummies moving new home .. if you wan to rent out your flat, remember to look for me ok ? i am in property now .. hehe

sinmey - but i heard in order to rent out a new flat mus stay there for at least 5 years?? Does the sublet rule applies here?

strawberry - ya my hubby also bu she de let ppl stay in new flat first...come to think of it i feel so too...i tink my boy also v lightweight, PD check on the 23rd last week, where he is 6months 1week he's only 6.5kg....me bo bian la, hubby onli son and my boy taken care of by my mil...duxton not near to Sengkang which is where we are staying now, so if move all have to move...if not my boy how leh...

maple,

I read somewhere that once they start on solids, bb should have at least 400 to 600ml of milk per day. Not sure whether u feed bb with FM/BM in the morning and at nite. If u do and bb drinks 200ml each time, it is just about enough. Else got to at least give bb another feed in the middle of the day.

minnie, my bb can never finish more than 180ml milk .. but she will have more feed lor. lucky total still have about 750-800ml per day with 2 additional feed in solid

sinmey
Yes, I'm going for the trial. You let me know if you going and can PM me your contact so I can contact you if there's any changes etc.

pinksorbet,
yes, tat is for whole flat letting. But if you lock a room, then it will consider as room letting, which no approval is required. I also rented a new flat last time, where landlord lock a room.

Jasmin, okok. i pm u my number liao. u sms me your number. If i going i sms u .. coz i dun really come in forum everyday now. in case i miss your message

mummies, where can I get a nice & cheap swimsuit for little Moiiesha .. ??

Sinmey
Haha......Anver eat lesser than your bb. 1 day he take less than 720ml of milk and he had not started any solid food yet.

vivian
i have written on the forum last week regarding the sold out of the heinz rice cereal... i am using bellamy white rice cereal for 4+ month. very close to the heinz and she loves it. i bought nestle but she hates it. was v stress finding cereal for her last week. stock up on the bellamy. one week she can consume a box. she is taking 3 meals a day.

sorbet/strawberry:: ya loh, i really want the privacy ley. most important, I don't want to come out and use toilet at night! i want to bath, change in my own room. more flexi. but hubby say stay together no need pay utilities and bills aiya.. he still wanna stay with mama. sian. see how end of this yr, hope i can persuade him, to move. otherwise he say wait till trishelle is 18mths, can go cc already then we move, so not dependent on mil.

kome:: haha haven't wo haven't started buying anything yet. i need to see the layout and all that is inside before i start buying. hubby say don't buy here and there later cannot match up look so weird.

sinmey:: thanks for shedding light on the sublet idea! i also thought must stay 5yrs then can rent whole place. so sublet can actually do when it's new. Hmmm but i really want to stay on my own. haha if i ever want to rent, will look for you.

sinmey - so for room letting, don't need to stay at the place for at least 5 years? Then i might consider cos i thought be it whole flat rent or lock one room to rent still have to stay there for at least 5 years...

Asura and Pink, thanks for the reassurance. the flu jab is for his trip to texas. but it does not prevent h1n1. regretting the jab now. =(

Kome, how is Anver? his temp is higher than my boy's. I can imagine how worried you are. hope he gets well soon!

Pinksorbet, yes, u dun have to complete the 5 yrs occupacy to rent out the 'room', as u will be locking a room for your own occupy.

Pinksorbet, if you dun lock a room, then u need to complete 5 yrs if u take the govn subsidised(3 yrs if no govn subsidy), coz it's consider as letting the whole flat.

Cindy
Haha......we just any how buy. Hope won't look cartoon. :p

Donroxx
ya lor, very worried about if his health will not be good in future as he had been taking alot of antibiotic and medicines. He is only 6 months and had been taking alot of medicines. Really worry and night time cannot sleep well as scare that his temperature will shoot up.

cindy - u not occupying the master bedroom at yr inlaws place? for us stay together now hubby paying the electricity and utility bills lo...my hb said even if kyan goes CC next time she will fetch him after tat so still have to stay with us...

sinmey - thanks for your explanation...and enjoy yr lunchie

Kome,

Mind if i ask what infection do they think they are treating by giving antibiotics?
Is anver tteething? Pd will know this, but if teething temp can go up to 39 deg sometimes too. However it shd be a diagnosis of exclusion. If they suspect a chest infection then by all means have the xray, but imho i think drs shd know what infection they are treating, or at least suspect. If not then shd probably do investigations eg urine/bld tests as appropriate, but the urgency of this is totally dependent on how well bb actually is. Main thing is if bb is still quite happy, feeding/drinking/pooing/peeing ok, and has reasonable level of energy, in which case the fever wldn't be as worrying as a bb who is behaving otherwise.

Hope u find out what is going on soon!

A.Fireangel
All the PD never mentioned what causes the fever also. Just mentioned that he might get the virus from outside which we never bring him out after he started his fever lor.

Don't think he is theething as my mum cannot feel any hard lumps inside his mouth at all.

Maple,

No way can milk be cut out altogether at this age. They need it until at least 3 yrs old.

My boy's current routine (timings and volumes are approximate and are variable dependent on his mood)-

6.30am 150-180mls milk
10.O0am fruit puree 70mls + 140 mls milk
1.30pm soup 100mls + 110mls milk
5.00pm cereal 100mls + 110mls milk
8.45pm 180-200mls milk

Each bb diff, but i try to make him take proper meals spaced 3.5-4 hrs apart, so that he doesn't create a snacking habit. With this and two proper naps (he goes straight back to sleep after 6am feed), he also sleeps thru from 9pm-6am.
Hope this is useful.

Kome,

thing is if its viral (which as u know is most common cause of fever in this age grp), antibiotics aren't going to make a diff cos antibiotics treat bacterial infections. If its viral then like anyoone else, gotta rely on ur own immune system to fight liao, unless it's h1n1 when u have to give antivirals but only to prevent spread - not sure if suitable to give bb's too.
Anyway, any treatment given in viral infxn is supportive only (ie just help to alleviate symptoms).
Like i said, as long as bb is well in himself, tt is more impt. Remember to get the temp under control if it gets high and lookout for any signs of him being uncomfortable - tt is often the best way to see where the source of any infxn is

sorbet:: no wor, i don't stay in masterbedroom at inlaws place ahah. it's their place so they stay in the masterbedroom. Me, hubby, #1 and #2 squeezein another room, like kome. ahhaha but we don't have to pay utilities bill. we just give his dad a token sum to contribute and for his mom, we give her another sum for taking care of #2. then meals also no need pay, that's why hubby don't wanna move, say we can really SAVE on all these lo. aiii.

Cindy
Haha.....we 2 about the same. 4 of us squeeze in 1 room. Don't need to pay for utilities, give money to mom for taking care of my 2 sons and best of all meals are FREE. Wahaha........really save alot sia.

If too ugly don't want to upload lor, so paisey to show here. Later no face to meetup during gathering......:p

Hi cindy,
that time me worse..in the morning i can only go to the master bedroom to bathe cos common toilet no heater. My in-laws still sleeping inside. then when i go in..their pet dog will bark at the top of his voice (like howling) when he hear noise..or sound..haiz..i endured for around 9mths or so...

Hi pinksorbet,
We are in the same boat..my hb also only son and only child. No other siblings. So that time, i really think very long and hard, how to avoid staying with in-laws. at last i got an idea which is to buy a second hand flat near them in order to give them 1 less excuse from shifting in together. I know my hubby still harbour hopes of staying together last time (his comfort zone), now im not sure. frankly speaking, i rather rent out 1 room next time than stay with in-laws..at least i got "say" in my own house. they are actually quite ok or even nice to me..but i just prefer not to stay together la.

Hi Fireangel,

my bb H Y still taking 120ml of milk. Yesterday i increase to 150ml..but he needs to split into two sessions within the hour to finish the milk. haiz...
but in between still gave him 2 xs brown rice Nestle cereal mixed with FM. sometimes, i will give him some pigeon teetihing biscuits.

hi all,

Keenan's also having high fever, on monday night went up to 39.4 Went to see PD on tues afternoon, all ok for lung, ears, mouth, throat. Since there was no symptoms of flu, PD suggested taking urine sample, in case of UTI. They stick a little plastic around wee and collected the pee for 3 tests. Immediate results showed blood trace. We're sent home with paracetamol to control the fever, 1.6ml every 4 hourly. His fever since yday was fluctuating 37-38. highest was 38.4deg. At times he can be smiling & plays w his toys when the panadol kicks in. When its weakening, can feel his temp coming back and he's lethargic and manjas to be carried. Today's 2nd test results showed there is no enough blood trace to conclude it is UTI. So leaves reason for fever still unknown. Maybe it is just viral fever, we dont know. Will wait for friday's culture test results to rule in/out UTI. So anyway, I latched to pass as much antibodies as possible. He just gave 1 big super pile of poo and loads of pee. *please pray he'll be fine*
