(2009/03) March 2009 MTBs

Mummies who had used carriers for their older kids, how long did you use the carrier? Am thinking to invest in another carrier but put my 7kg nephew into the carrier today and I find it rather straining. Also, my nephew (6MO) kept leaning forward, thus straining the carrier.

Oh, my gal reached a milestone on Sat
happy.gif
After the CP gathering, I noticed she kept twisting her body machiam wanna flip and true enuf on Sat, she did

First day at work today and morning was a rush, feed baby, bathe & dress up, breakfast, entertain him while trying to get myself all ready for work.

Luckily, office is shifting by end of this week, nothing much to do yet. Just reporting work for the sake of reporting.

Morning mummies,
It have been a well I didnt log into our march thread as my boy have be admitted to hospital coz of allegy due to fever, he took fever medicine and his body start to have lots and lots! of rashes, and me and hubby start to worried that he got allegy?? PD also cant be sure is it due to medicine, so he ask us to admit him as he got fever and cant take medicine. So we got no choice but to admit him on Wednesday night. Hubby was with him till Thursday. I WAS REALLY ANGRY with what KK nurse do to my Ethan!! they shower him in running tap water and he cry like hell even he got no high fever anymore!! They done it when my hubby went down to pick us up as they restrict 2 visitors to visit as now they have the H1N1 virus. We went up cant find my baby in his bath and went around searching for him and heard him crying non stop in the bath room. I was really upset by it and ask hubby no matter what have to ask for discharge on that day and not on the 2nd day as the doctor in the morning insist that he cant be discharge on that day.

jasmine, i've heard lots of story from kk. That's why i dun dare to go there, usually will go to tmc.
Hope your boy has recover already.

vernice,
I also ganna painful nipple/aerola due to overpumping. How long u pump? TMC parentraft says max 15min each side. I apply Lansinoh nipple cream BEFORE n AFTER pumping when it was very painful. Now that its better, i apply juz b4 pumping and nite b4 sleeping. I like lansinoh cos its 100% pure lanolin, no need to wash. Other brands e.g AVent also no need to wash, but not 100% lanolin leh, so don feel comfy abt it.

Kat, do u pump out the milk? Pump out can see how much u express and feed bb Eve around 100ml to 120ml and see how much she can drink..

Queenie,
wah u are so bless, hehe...electric pump will save more time n hope less tiring for you
happy.gif

Jaszho, wah so fast go back to work liao..so who is taking care of ur boy? I am gng back to workin in July and my mum will come over my hse early morn n help me take care of my gal, if nt I will be rushing and be late for work...

Sat went shopping wif my sis, hubby babysit bb at hm, wah I have nt go orchard for shopping spree for my own stuff for ages!

Bought 3 tops and 1 shorts..wanted to buy shoes but to tired to walk,heheh...but also went taka buy some stuff for my gal

So bored today, nw circle line open, later gng to AMK hub to shop shop, want to go mums and babes shop

mangogal, I went to taka during the weekend. It was so crowded. Bought some clothes also and got myself a thermal pot for cooking. Haha think I getting more auntie liao.

bluebell, my gal learned how to flip too last week
happy.gif
but she is only halfway there as she flips from tummy to back. Still cant flip from back to tummy.

Jasmine, hope your boy is getting better, it must have been such a traumatizing experience for him.

oh ya.. i'm doing total latch. and she takes very long to feed. about 30-45mins.. My girl is 2.5 months. not sure how much she's taking as I'm doing total latch. Is this normal? or she's just feeding slowly?

Kat,

mummies here are talking about how much their bbs drink.. i am the same with you cos i am on total latch. Brianne refuses bottle even for EBM so i don't really know how much she drinks..

i just feed her till she has enough and burp her. as long as she is putting on good weight, she should be fine, so dun worry too much

Kat, y dun you express out? At least u know how much amt u can pump n try to introduce bottle to bb?

Sportygirl, oh u were at taka too? Ya I bought clothes for work, u starting work next Mon rite?
Wah so cute and must be exciting ur gal can flip liao
happy.gif

thanks mummies for the suggestions and help!
happy.gif

I did pump out. usually only give when i go work as i only got enough for 3 feeds for one week.. haha.. quite pathetic right? hmmm.she takes 100-120ml per feed. lasts about 2 hours. but when i latch she seems to want to feed all the time, very often. will cry after about 15 - 20 mins after the last feed.

I think she did empty my breasts as she feed for 30-45mins so should be getting the hind milk. My breasts will feel soft when she finishes..

Puzzling.. dunno if it's because my milk not enough nutrients so she's not full enough?

Thanks mummies,
My boy already discharged on Thursday which is the day I saw my boy suffer. I insisted my hubby to get the doctor approval to let him discharge as I can see the doctor there can do nothing for my boy already as they have took his fluid from his mouth and took his blood for test. And result show he gana some kind of virus attack, doctor say his rashes will go away in weeks and nothing was given to him for apply as well so why keep him there!!?? I was pissed with my hubby too for not letting him go to TMC instead as I have told him why not let him go TMC instead, he say the PD last minute change his letter to go KKH instead. My hubby was sick the week before, he went to the doctor too late I guess, as by then he already pass the virus to my 2kids and his mum as well, so the whole family is down with flu virus! Accept me and my maid, I almost fall sick as well on sat, but I quickly took medicine before it hit me as well. So mummies be aware when you or your family feel not well better to see doctor...
Amount of milk baby take:
My boy intake of milk, just to share, he is 3.5 months, he drink 110ml of my EBM every 3hourly.

starflower - i don mind attending the bb sign language work shop
happy.gif
let me know if u r organising one

jasminenbc - oh no....has ur boy fever subside? Think govt hosp's nurses are not that great..thats y we need to pay for svc in pte hosp.

kris - thxs for the info. Think maybe i need to get some nipple cream liaoz.

teddybear - i pump very long heehee. like 30mins per side cos after 15 mins majority of milk were expressed liaoz but still like got little streams when pressed leh. so i bo bian got to pump longer lor. n my right breast can only expressed less than half of what my left can achieve. Donno y. After applying the nipple cream, can continue to pump milk? no problem for bb to drink milk with nipple cream?

Jasmine - The viral is call roseola. My ger last week had it. Fever for 4 days till 39 plus degree then subside. Once subside all the rashes come out. Take abt another 2 to 3 days for the rashes to be gone and they will be back to normal. The rashes will not cause itch or discomfort. Don't worry abt it. Your boy will soon be up and running. Me too was worried sick for the whole damn week... ;p

Sportyger, what coincidence
happy.gif
Mine only from back to front. Told my maid she got to be more careful where she place bb from now on.

Any good buys from Taka? Am thinking to check it out too. Looking for working bag. But this week not enjoying my ML everytime I think of having to start work next week...

Starflower - Am interested in bb signing workshop too
happy.gif

re: bb signing workshop

i'm interested too.

mummies - when u mummies talk abt bb feeding time 10-15 mins, is it both breast or 1? My boy 2+mth finish both in 15 mins and day time last abt 2hr if lucky 3hr. At night 3hr if lucky 4hr for first feed and abt 2 to 3 hr for 2nd feed. SOOO envy u mummies that bb can last so long for the next feed. I'm not sure how much my boy drink as well since i'm also total latch on.

Talking abt poops, he poops and wee wee every feed (straight tunnel). Hoping that when he turn 3 mth will be like u mummies, bb sleep longer hour.

bluebell,
Though I went to Taka on Friday, I only have time to go straight to the bedshop to order the mattress and to go get the Tiger Food Jar and then I am out of Taka. Yesterday went Causeway Point also had time to go Metro for bedsheets only and have to make our way home cos near my boy's nap time. With the kids, there are so limited things we can do. Hubby and myself were looking around and going "we have not gone there to see yet... there got things leh... aiya, no time..."

Even packing for my trip tomorrow, I had to do in between looking after the 2 little imps. Was telling hubby all I need is an uninterrupted 30mins to pack everything for everyone and I don't even have the luxury of 30mins! Anyway, most of the things are packed and hubby is now bathing the baby. (told him whenever he is home on leave or over weekends, he should bond with the baby and bathing is one good way! Ha! :p)

Kat,

I had similar problem to u when I was latching a couple of months ago. He used to latch for like an hour - effectively only sucking for the first first 5 mins and then after that sucking on and off, and altho my breasts became soft after each feed, after like 2 hrs hungry again. Ended up not only creating a snacking habit, but also being treated like a pacifier that he needed before going to sleep!!! On hindsight the problems were probably due to:

a) my milk flow was (and still is) quite pathetic
b) baby not latching as well as he should

so above two combined, bb not feeding as well as i imagined. I'm now expressing, and he is much happier - in fact now reject breast and only want bottle *_* Not sure if the same problems apply to u, but if u express and only have enough for 3 feeds in one week, u may have the same issue with milk flow. Might also be worth double checking bb's latch just in case.

jasmine,
hws ur ethan nw? but tmc dun have PD, theirs is GP, they will still refer u to KK for kid's case.

hoho,
yeah, if always cry b4 3hrs, den muz b hungry. tink u try to pump n give, c hw.

vernice,

fireangel

thanks for the advice! hmmm. i noe my supply is low. been taking fenugreek and oats like wat the other mummies suggested.

how did u managed to have enough ebm to feed bb when u still latching? i dun even have time to pump when bb needs to latch on so often! that'swhy i can only express 3 bottles a week.. help!

Vernice
I am fine for the gathering. Need to get out of the house too, coz my mum doing minor renovation work at her bedroom toilet scare later will disturb Anver.

Mummycents do not have the white lave which i like.
sad.gif
Don't think i will buy this time.

hi all..
OMG I've been missing for almost a month haha...kinda miss this thread!
anyway..how are your babies mummies? growing cuter and cuter?
just share with u...last month I mentioned that my bb suddenly was really fussy over his milk..he refused drinking from bottle and latching as well..on the 2nd wk i tried to latch again and to my surprise he didnt refuse, but he still refused the bottle. by the 3rd wk I got so frustrated because it was like wrestling with him before each feed. he used his hands to push away the bottle and spit it out. I consulted with mrs wong..she said could not be nipple confusion coz confusion wont be that long..so it must be wind. But after observing a few weeks, I am sure it's not due to wind. on the 3rd wk I decided to stop latching and pumping as well..just give formula with bottle...he was still fussy..until the 3rd day he suddenly back to normal and take his milk from bottle peacefully. so my conclusion is..he did get confused at first..but by the 2nd wk, he knew the difference between nipple n bottle and of course he prefer nipple! that's why he got mad when i put bottle teat on his mouth. I'm so relieved that he now drinks well..although I'm abit sad too I've to stop breastfeed him when i just started to enjoy the bonding time I get when I latch him..

anyway mummies...my bb now is almost 10 wk old and drinking 120ml..how long we continue giving 120ml? when do we need to buy bigger bottles? I'm using 125ml avent bottle now..

re: latching hour
I used to latch my bb for 45-60mins. so i guess it's normal.

re:bb sleep thru the night
sometimes he can sleep for 6 hour stretch...but the next day back to 4-5hour...how to maintain it at 6 hour? and anyway 6 hour is from 7pm to 1am..i want to train him sleep 6 hour from 11pm to 5am..anyone knows how to do that?

Jaszho, me too!!! started work today... one of my friends said her colleague cried when she came back to work, i tot that happens to me too, but i guess maybe i was confined at home for too long, gng back to office feels more like a relief... but i do miss my gal whole day, so the 1st thing i did upon reaching office is to put her pictures all over my work desk... only diff now is to get up earlier as need to pump and pack all the pumping stuffs.

Tusky, my bb also 12 weeks and drink approx. 90ml - 110ml per feed 2.5 - 3 hourly. there was a period of time she can drink up to 125ml every 2.5 hourly, which i believe is growth spurt, now only max 110ml and she will stop drinking.

Kat, initially i dunno how to express and store as bb needs to latch as i worried the MS will go down. what i do is make sure day time i pump every 3 hours DILIGENTLY and night time shall latch her. my MIL will feed her using bottle in the daytime and as days goes by, you will realise the storage is getting more in ur freezer. It is tiring to pump cos need to sterilise and wash, but i tink carrying bb 30mins every 2 hours is even more tiring. drink more soup and fluids as it helps in the letdown.

Goodness gracious me! My bb seems to drink a lot compared to many bb here.. He has moved on to the bigger bottles.. 170 ml every 4 hrs. Maybe he should be put on a diet? haha...

Kome,
I guess every bb has different drinking habits. As long as they r growing well, i think its fine.

Jo
Wow.....your bb drink alot. Luckily he drink BM if not you expenses for FM wil be very high. :p

Haiz.....he had wasted alot of my FM lor. Sometimes he cannot even finish 90ml. Mummy going to lose job soon and he waste my money like that.

starflower..
if you can managed to get them and organise fot the sign langauge thingie...pls sign me in..thanks..

MEDICINE TO BE TAKEN PRIOR JAB
proven and tested that if baby drink BAI BAO SHENG before their jabs....it'll help and will not alleviate much....it's to help to calm the system. i have administered to ugin twice (once last mth and once 5 days ago)...his fever never reach higher then 37.7degrees.
all you have to do is buy from any chinese medical hall and then cut half for (2 days dosage. 30ml per day)...give baby after milk or after bath.
works on ugin although this time round the jab i also did give ugin 01 time of panadol adviced by PD.
do try so baby won;t suffer...it hurts us more.

Vernice,
Think u overpump liao, like me last time. I also pump abt 30-40mins due to one breast being much slower than the other. Was taught by TMC parentcraft to massage before pumping so milk can be expressed faster. But I massage while pumping la, works for me too. Cos if massage b4 pumping, milk will fly all over the place, very messy! I now keep to max 20mins only and with massaging, can still pump abt same amt of milk as last time. Using Lansinoh cream, i don't remove it. Its also recommended by the Breastfeeding Mothers support grp cos its not so sticky

RE: washable breast pads
I've tried AVENT washable breast pads and I still prefer Pigeon disposable breast pads as once leak washable ones remain wet whileas disposable ones keep dry. Furthermore, washable ones no adhesive tape so the pads may shift position.

ayambunny
Thanks! My baby doesnt reject the frozen breast milk.. So I think it is ok... Thanks!!

I also partial direct BF and partial bottle.. Congrats on your wedding anniversary...

Misscandy
Think you working as a nurse so no fix day that's y?

I contacted the maid, but she wants $15/hr and fixed timing at Sun 8am to 12nn... Finds it too ex and too early for me... My hubby still sleeping at the timing...

Kome
I am not sure if there is any links on this. I try to find then let u know... But my company practise this since the 3rd month maternity started...

Cindy
I normally BF my baby... Only when my MIL or mom is around then they will bottle feed her... If she zzzz, means she full already i think so... then will throw away the milk then make new one for her the next feed...

bluebell
I used the ergo baby carrier, carried my 12kg - 13kg girl.. Very very good...

Jasmine
I also heard many stories about KKH so if got problem, I will bring back to TMC only..

Starflower
I'm oso interested in bb sign! Count me in if u organize workshop for it
