Infant care
We just had a meeting with the principle of our infant care center to trash out a couple of issues and we're glad that she is very open to work on solutions to solve the issues we've raised.
For those of you who are going to send your baby into care centre, it is very crucial to establish the following facts to the centre to ensure that the top most care is given to your baby:
1. Feeding - indicate very clearly what is the interval between feeds and if your baby is zzz, should they wake him/her up. What is the max duration that is acceptable (eg if yours is on 3 hourly feed, max stretch is 4 hours and thereafter they have to wake baby up etc..) Make sure that the information is being pass on to all the teachers.
This is very important as we are really upset that Bryan was not fed pass 2 hours of his regular 4 hourly interval on numerous occassion because he zzz and the teacher who took the information did not pass it down to the rest of the teachers and they simply let him sleep.
2. For us, we were told that Infants are kept away from the toddlers or mobile babies in a separate area due to safety reasons. However, on Monday we were shocked to learned from my Mother in law who pick him up from the infantcare that my son was on a mattress in the toddler zone without any barricade to ensure his safety from the curious mobile ones! Plus the mattress that they place my son on was the same one used for the older babies. This is not acceptable as the older babies may spread their bugs to my little boy as his immune is JUST developing. So check this point with the centre and if they have to place babies there during peak hours (collection time in the evening)then make sure they have some form of barricade.
3. Baby Cot
Check if your baby is assigned specific cot for health reasons.
4. Sick / Runny nose
Check how they define babies being sick and to which stage will the centre reject their entrance. We saw a couple of babies with runny nose and fever being allowed into the centre and post the questions to the centre on how can they allow such to happen as it imposes health risk to other children. So for the centre that we attend, they only turn children away when fever is 38C or when the runny nose is really bad (yellow mucus).
