It is really good that you persisted!! =)Yeah I agree that direct latch on is easier.. no need to sterilise bottles or warm milk up.. just place baby at breast and sit back and relax!!! Haha!! But I'm really worried about going out with Lisa next time.. how to feed her in public.. must really be discrete... dun want pple to stare at my boobs..

Most of the time, Lisa would sleep after feeding.. sometimes she does get a bit fussy and I would just carry her till she sleeps... no choice... try not to be too stress.. Emma can probably sense it and may stress her out more.. just stay calm.. and carry her to sleep.. she just wants to have some contact with u guys... dun worry about spoiling her cos she'll only be a baby for this period only... =)

I know nite time can be stressful.. but I think it will get better as she gets older... =)

i think so long as ur bb poo/urine often & can 'wait' for abt 2hrs for next feed then he should be having enuf milk...

i always make sure my bb suck for at least 10-15mins but if he only suck for one side then he will look for milk again very soon in an hr time... if he sucks both side then no problem to last until at least 2hrs lor... but very diff to get him to suck both side during nite time laa...

during daytime i still hav no problem, but at nite same like ur little david lor, always suck one sidefor 10-15mins only then fall asleep liao, so got to offer him the other side during next feed which will be in an hr time, very fast one if he only suck one... argh!!

for pumping i only do it when necessary which i need my mum to bottle feed him when i'm having my massage, so i only pump once in a day... now i only pump in morning coz can get more... last few days i tried to pump an hr after feeding but only get 40ml only, and i also cannot wait long coz the next feeding will be in 2hr times so basically 'no time' to pump oso..

for BF-ing in public, u can try to get a nice & big nursing shawl which can cover ur bb when u r nursing...

like me when i brought my son back for PD review last week, i was actually nursing him with a shawl when walking around, from the carpark to lift then to clinic coz he was hungry & screaming for milk every now & then... and tat time in the lift, there was one lady actually nearly knocked to me (coz lift was crowded) so i tried to 'siam' la then only she knew that i was carrying & nursing my bb under the shawl... hehee..

The 1st week, bb will be more demanding.. as they are going through a growth spurt.. then it will taper off... and when there is another growth spurt (around 10 days) the bb will again be more demanding..

I learnt from breastfeeding that I cannnot be too rigid about feeding schedule.. and when she requires more milk, it does not mean u are not producing enough but rather she is in a one of her growth phase.. =) or simply just being a fussy baby..

Gerry, I think I'll try that, sit David up for a while and let the milk go down before laying him down. But a bit challenging at night lah, cause I'm also very tired!

echo, David usually falls asleep after 10 mins like Emma. But sometimes when I try to burp him, he wakes up and screams at me. Then I'll latch him on again for another 5 to 10 minutes on the same breast. He cannot drain one breast of milk mah, so I'm scared he's not getting enough hind milk.

Jess, at night, David turns into a red, angry little person who struggles a lot during latching on. Sometimes it takes me a good 5 minutes to latch him on because he's too agitated. Looking forward to the days when he can sleep through the night!

I have another question... how many times do you bathe your baby? My mil will only allow me to bathe David once a day, but at the end of the day, David smells all sweaty liao. I want to bathe him and make him feel comfy for his bedtime leh

Dear Mummies,

It's nice to follow the thread and read about everyone's adventure with their pregnancy, birth process and looking after the new-born.

My baby princess, Masako, was born on Thu, 11 Dec 2008. Was just discharged yesterday and wish to encourage all mummies who have yet to pop to enjoy it. It is so unexpected and the best experience that i have since i have heard so much horrid stories. Lots of love and appreciation to Dr Joan Thong in Raffles Hospital. I did not suffer any pain at all throughout my delivery. The entire birth process was only approx 6hrs due to emergency to get the baby out.

So mummies who are afraid - have no fear - it's also not a shame to opt for Epi. Tho i had several stitches, the antibotics and painkiller do wonders.

May you all have a smooth delivery.

Always opt for the best gynae and trust in their judgement and professionalism. Dr Thong is certainly the best and would recommend to all.

xiao pooh, i celebrated my boy's full mth yst and we did not shave his hair. we only intend to cut a bit on his actual full month day which is this wed. hubby say his head still soft soft so wont be shaving his hair during full month.

Spag: My CL bathes my boy every morning about 10+ am...and if the weather is hot, she will bathe him again (w/o washing hair) in the late afternoon around 4 or 5pm.

Xiao pooh: I don't intend to shave Preston's hair. It's very soft...will only trim a bit cos it's getting long.

Chantalle: If you want to register the birth of your baby at the hosp, you need to bring your ORIGINAL marriage cert.

Jess: You don't have to open an account with OCBC/SC first. You just have to fill in the bank's form. Someone over the age of 21 & is not a bankrupt has to be the trustee of the account. You'll also need your BB1 (green) & BB2 (pink) forms + supporting documents when you apply for the Baby Bonus/CDA.

Fabbie: Thanks for the milk feeding chart.

I'm going to increase Preston's intake to 100ml by the end of the week. Currently he's drinking 90ml EBM at each feed but he'll wake up about 2.5 hours later. 90ml of FM will last him 3 hours.

Emeraldbride: Glad that your CL is here. Take the chance to get a good rest at night. Leave your bb in the care of your CL (except for feeding if you're latching bb on). They're the experts. My bb sleeps with my CL too...and when my maid comes, she'll also be sleeping & taking care of my boy at night.

Congrats on your birth! I totallly agree with what you said about opting for epi. I had hoped for a natural birth but in the end had a totally medicalised birth - my labour had to augmented with IV drip, I got pain relief from the gas and epidural, and my baby had to be delivered by forceps. But in the end, the most important thing was that my baby was safely delivered, regardless of what I'd hoped for my birth to be.

Actually I think you may not need to worry too much about David not getting enough hindmilk, unless he's showing symptoms, e.g. green mucousy stool. You may not need to 'block nurse' (feed from only one side over a block of time, regardless of number of feedings) if David's stool is normal. When Emma fusses a lot and has difficulty latching, sometimes what helps is when I switch her to the other side. For some reason, that sometimes helps her to calm down and latch on immediately.

Anyone experienced mommies can advise how to latch, my girl cries till gg into fits when i try to latch her at time, once or twice a day, she's an angel,will quietly suckle till she falls asleep. Jes - I think on 10 Dec alot of pple giving birth bah. That's y run out of 2 bedder. Anyway, they put us temporary at the superior room till afternoon. Initially we thought maybe we can stay in the superior room for a day since they run short of 2 bedder. Even the 1 bedder rooms are not available when we requested for it!

Rihan - Oic. I've been suffering from sore and cracked nipples. So far my supply is abt 40ml which i expressed for abt 1 hr fr both breasts. I wonder if this is the normal rate. Today experienced engorgement. I tried latching on but i feel pain and sore whenever my gal suckles.

echo: I used to do block nurse because little David was having greenish diarrhea. Now I don't. But I will only feed from one breast within a session, although he will usually suckle for 10 mins, doze off, and then when I try to burp him, he'll latch on the same breast again for another 10 mins.

bur: What latch are you using? The LC at Mt A taught me cross cradle for my right (normal nipple) and football hold for my left (short nipple). Works well for me. I read that these two positions are highly recommended for NBs, but not for long term. David is getting bigger and heavier now, so we are slowly transitioning to cradle. So far so gd.

today is the first day Zach sleeps with confinement lady and I cried cos he no longer sleeps with me! I feel like asking the CL to leave so that I can take care of Zach myself..I so attached to him liao..

me now also pumping - first time wake up to pump..hahaha. Now I am in the mode of storing up BM n i realise my milks ducts could be blocked..can feel the breast is full but when pump milk juz come in very very slow..in drops. I read fr other threads that they use finger nails to dig at the nipple to clear but I felt tat is too painful leh..so i din try..

marilyn, 15-20 minutes to empty both breast is quite fast hor..usually i take 30minutes to empty both breast and the result only abt 70ml.

Is it because I latch on my son so often n my milk production is not as fast? Wonder how can I achieve more milk..

no leh.. should be u latch more.. got more milk production.. mayb your boy already drink nearly dry liao your milk. thats why u pump till so little ba?

aiyo tell you all i also so so so tired of pumping breast. everytime here pain there pain. i wake up i feel like dying liao.. then plus the food and everything so heaty.. i can feel im getting sick! arghz. wonder when can we stop all theses ahhhhhhhhhh.

but mummies imagine we tmw gonna work liao. then how? we also got to wake up in the middle of the night to pump milk? then we morning got strength to go work mah? i felt is like damn tough.. not enff sleep.

d more u latch, d more milk u will produce. u pump afta latching? if tt's so, den could be lesser bm expressed. mi total expressing onli.

tinking fo starting on fenugreek to express more to store. hehe. oh good times, i can get 180mls. but middle of d dae or when im tired, i can onli get abt 90-120mls.
