(2008/11) November 2008

Good morning mummies,
Thanks for your input. Guess I will just monitor her 1st. I've never been concern abt he weight thought it is always in the 3 percentile growth cos she is always been a food lover and is active and happy. It's only her recent drop in interest in food and is ALWAYS grouchy then it comes a concern liao.

Mummy2nia,
Congrats on your new arrival. It is a gd weight that hit 3kg and above despite born at 37++ week.

Jo,
So long your maid can work, then ignore MIL.
It is so heartpain to see children on the crying part. If your maid can cope, let her take care of bb L and send him to playground or you can consider those PAP nursery.
Like I told you, 3 out of 4 person I knew withdraw their kid from My 1st Skool. They also feeback kid learns minimum there. 1 concern father I know feedback that his dd who is in k2 only had 5 spelling words per week. The kid knows nothing much abt sentence forming etc and he worries how his poor kid is gg to struggle if she was to emrol in Rosyth next yr.

Morning mummies

T using mummypoko normal/pull up pants - outing/night use. daily at home using drypers. Size L. haa.. he got small butt..

jo
i saw a few CC. i tink basically my 1st skool is more of like PAP type. for playgroup tods.. i can say not much activities.. & definately for 1st timer, their concentration level is not there.. L need some time to start following the rest to do the same ting.. if were to compare with other CC like kinderland or some montessori school, my 1st skool are less prof.. of cos the $$ differs lah.. haa.. if u considering to put him in CC. preferrable u go check out a few CC.And u will see the differences. i am putting T to PG near my area.. they have between 2-4hrs session. shld be starting him with 3 hrs session 1st.. although i have maid to help take care, but tot of him staying at home not socialising & not learning anyting.. like waste of time.. i always hear this maid talk his bb language to him -_-" whenever i hear it, i will asked her to speak in HUMAN language to him!! & her pronunciation is v bad.. always talk like mumbling to herself.. certainly feel, T will never learn anytin under her care lor... plus wait til i come home to teach oso not much time liao.. cos it's only at night. too tired to sometimes to bother..

Ard my area, My First Skool and Little Wings (PAP) available only ... the rest are too far away. My main point is convenience in picking him up after work. I'm planning to send L to St Francis church playgrp by sch bus after he turns 24months next Apr. My niece learnt alot from the church nursery class there.

Mummy2nia
congrats and rest well!

Jo
seems Lucas is ok at CC (minus al e bitings of cos).. Only see you then cry i tink tts quite normal la.. at least he's not those cry from morning to evening kind.. *suspect my rascal wil b such child lor* haiz..

Survey
How do u store FM powder? Do you transfer some out to another container, so that the remaining are 'kept fresh' in the metal tin?
If so, what container u use?

Me asking cos it takes weeks for my girl to finish her 1.8kg FM tin.

ali..
icic...hmm..i still hv quite alot of XL Fitti coz previously stock up alot when it's $11/pkt..hehe..but i will probably go get mamy poko ones for him..the pull-up pants, previously i some samples from Huggies..Brod has a big tummy leh..duno if it's ok also..also time passes very fast..now is almost mid Jun..Aug is coming..soo fast..

lilian..
so far mine is the 900g tin, in fact we felt that it's really flushing coz he's really drinking it so often that we cannot believe how come it's gone soo fast...i know of some mummies using lock & lock container to keep some portion of the FM then try to use up the remaining ones within 1mth then open up the lock & lock ones to consume...

whc FM is 1.8kg? i didnt take notice since lately is hubby buying Brod's goatmilk..but very ex..we just go some frm Motherhood fair lately.

50% off at mothercare HBF
seems really tempting..even i m at Raffles Place also feels like gg over leh..wah..

Lilian,
Normally, I will transfer some to my parent's house in lock and lock. My son also took a few weeks to finish 1.8kg tin of Friso 3.

50% at MotherCare HBF
Office..too far from HBF

lilian
i got 1.8kg gainIQ & 1.8kg Pedisure. nv keep track of the date of consume whether within a month anot.. last time i kept track it's about 4-5weeks for 1 tin... for this two tin maybe 2mth.. oops. maybe exceed expiry date abit. but i nv care much wor.. cos SG standard of expiry date is always shortened.. & T is taking it so far so good..

ali..
oh, u mixed Gain IQ & Pedisure for T ah..icic..Brod is on Karihome abv 12mths..I will alternate him with Isomil Advanced and Karihome 900g each time to regulate his bowel..sometimes he gets rather constipated too..when he poos..it's like "oh, goood, yeah!"..lol..

wtan
stock up so much fitti diaper ah. aiya. if can save some $$, anyway the diaper used liao... also throw. haa..

ah lian, i hv the same prob as u re: FM. becos our gals are not at home during wkdays so the 1.8kg tin takes a long time to finish.

i din bother to transfer out lor, i just let it be though i know it's best that the FM be consumed by 4 wks aft opening. i just ensure that the cover is put back on securely after each milk make.

yep, lock & lock container is good, it's very air tight.

ali & lilian,
That church playgroup at Boon Lay .. I think can use CDA account ... not too sure about the bus transport fee but I guess abt $50-70? But if you consider take bus to and fro, cost is almost there.

ali,
You sending T to childcare soon?

Go grab for A leh ... if u saw nice nice one for boys .. can juz grab for L ... I will pay u when I meet u! Keke.

wtan

jo

nut

Is there a standard to toddler and playgroup age group in Singapore?

Cos for My First Skool ... toddler class is for 18-30mths and playgroup is 30mths to dunnoe how many mths.

Jo, no standard. it depends on t school. Most PG starts from 18mths

Re: Container for FM
Thks for all t response!
Jes, yalor, cos our gals stays 2 places, so need 2 tins.
I notice t FM tends to 'harden' after opening for like 2-3 wks (i use GainIQ), dunno will affect t quality/taste anot.
Will go get Lock&Lock container...

aiyorz!! Ali & Jo now then i see ur posts la... me already back in office liao.. vroom off for lunch at 11.15! kakaka.... had a quick one then shop at mothercare liao.. sorry la.. me 1pm got telecon so cant help u gals...
Spent $50 on 2 cotton dresses, 1 polo top and a short..

lian, ya lor, my MIL oso got suggest i scoop into a container and bring back home but i find it too troublesome so jus open a tin at each hse lor. i tink more or less will 'harden' slightly cos sure will 'lau hong' abit due to the constant opening and closing. so far no prob with V taking the milk (hers is enfagrow) so i jus let it be.

nut
good buy leh.. so many items!! it's ok la.. GSS just started nia.. ev where also got sales. haa

Jo
No standard one.. not all school take so young children. some take in from after 2 or 3 yr old. base on the yr of birth... for yr 2008 children next yr consider 3yo le lor.. which actual fact our tod is just hit 2yr. that's y they say yr end baby more lose out.

Nuts,
wow $50 for so many items... So tempting! feel like going moghercare hbf now but my gal having her nap now she will only wake up ard 3pm..

Another mummy who enrolled her gal to the childcare together with Lucas since Monday was monitoring her gal and she monitored Lucas for me today ... very nice of her ... and she sms mi say Lucas was doing well during waterplay and he finished 2 plates of porridge and apple.

jo
lucas is such a good boy. haa.. that mummy so anxious ah.. 4th day liao still monitoring... wat's water play???

ali,
I also dunnoe whats waterplay ... maybe the toddlers play in pool of water with some water toys?

That little gal was crying for mummy 10mins later from start of the class so her mummy came to her rescue.

I feel abit paiseh cos I juz emailed the principal this morning that they are not doing anything much with the toddlers!

If anywhere got GainIQ promo, let me know ok!
Need to stock up again.

milk strike
undertand from baby website tat it happen once awhile.
from the webby :
The problem
For the past six months, your 18-month-old has been happily drinking milk at every meal. But this morning she declared that she doesn't like milk anymore.

What you can do
When your child suddenly refuses her favorite food, don't make a big deal out of it. Deciding that she no longer likes a particular food is one way for her to assert her independence. You can keep offering it, since she may decide at some point that she likes it again. In the meantime, if it's an important food, such as milk, try offering other things that contain calcium, such as yogurt and cheese.

Or maybe your child has decided that she hates all vegetables; again, try not to make a big deal out of it. Focus on fruit instead (cantaloupe contains lots of beta carotene, which converts to vitamin A and is one of the main nutrients in red and yellow vegetables) and keep trying to reintroduce the vegetables.

While it's important not to make too much of your child's refusal to eat a certain food, creativity can go a long way toward enticing a toddler. Disguising milk in a milkshake or vegetables (and milk!) in a low-fat cheese sauce is one strategy. Allowing her to pour her own cup of milk (with your help, of course!) or dip her own broccoli into the cheese sauce is another way to get her interested. You can also show her that milk is an ingredient in some of her favorite foods, like pudding and cheese, and that broccoli is a great topping for pizza. If she still refuses milk, you can start sneaking extra calcium into soup and pancake and muffin batters in the form of powdered milk.

back from Mothercare warzone!

Tried to control myself so ONLY bought 2 boy bottoms, 1 cardigan, 2 gal dresses and 1 blanket. All very good material and total damaged around $80. Hee...

Lilian,
NTUC also selling Friso 3 1.8kg for $44.95 this week. I have received the $5 off coupon for buying Friso > $50 in my mail box. This week is for NTUC.

Hi Mommies,

Ok... updates on J3's Childcare:
After 1-week at My 1st Skool, J3 is getting better now. Especially since I took the last 3-days morning off just to send her into CC. At least she does not cry as much and seems more cheerful. When sending in, she will still cling to me. Once inside the CC, she will cry. But after I leave, she will slowly calm down and play. When I pick her up about 3-hours later (slightly before lunch time), she would either be napping or the teacher carry but she is quiet. Big improvement. Will slowly extend her till about 1-pm. Although I'm paying Full Day Care fees, my dad says to leave her as Half Day care instead for now.

However, don't tink will keep her there long. Once Kinderland had vacancies by December, will change her over.

Basically after J3's 1-week there, I dun see the teachers really doing much educational activities. Except for some music and movement, sensory play (Eg: play with flour / water play), singing, that's about it. Since this is for the Toddlers class I can close 1-eye. But if for long term, tink not good for the child lah. In comparison, I find the curriculum at Kinderland more extensive. And the teachers are more committed too. Guess you get what you pay for yah. That's why Kinderland's fees are at a premium too. But judging from J2 who is at Kinderland for past 6-months, I find her studies improving loads. She'll definately be well prepared for P1.

I also want Gain IQ promo. My stocks finishing.

Mummy2Nia,
Congrats! Congrats! Wow.. your boy is a good birth weight leh. Rest well and enjoy your new bundle of joy yah.

Jo,
Totally agree with you. My First Skool, nothing much educational leh. But for Toddlers class still can close 1-eye lah. After that I will change J3 to Kinderland. As for classes, there is no standard. But usually Playgroup is usually from 18-24-mths. Nursery 1 from 2yrs-3-yrs. Nursery 2 from 3yrs-4yrs.

Hi mummies,
Been trying to post but always got problem with the system.

Minky,
Congrats on your #2!

Mummy2nia,
Congrats on the arrival of ur little prince. He's so cute.

Wtan,
I also forgot about all the jabs and i only brought R for her MMR and booster last mon after meeting up with Ali for lunch. She got 2 jabs on the same day. So poor thing cos both thighs got injection. She had fever on the first and second day and she's fine after that. She's starting PG next mth, wanted to give her pneumococcal but i guess will probably push till later when she turns 2 else got to take 1 extra jab.

Lilian,
I store the FM in tupperware. My girl takes very little FM, usually take more than a mth to finish. When she infant stage i more particular, will throw after 1 mth but now i think still quite safe for her to consume if FM slightly more than 1 mth.

R is constantly screaming to get her way. Super buay tahan. Haiz. Very spolit now.

Re: fruit juice

Can toddlers take fruit juice on an empty stomach in the morning?

Recently MIL make fruit juice for us every morning saying its good to drink on empty stomach but lately I feel so bloated after the drink .. cant even take my breakfast. I found that some pple can take it but some will suffer from hyperacidity and eventually peptic ulcer.

Jo, huh.. me no expert la, but i tink better not.
I have doubt on your MIL's logic, that drinking juice on empty stomach is gd.
Moreover, Lucas will probably drink milk in t morning. Juice dun go with milk!

ah lian: thanks for the update. i will follow ah yen & buy from ntuc cos got additional $5 coupon
happy.gif

the FM... errr, my boys take the same milk powder 900 g can finishes in a week. but rachel alone drinks up a friso 1.8 kg can within 10 days. is it a lot? do u all think my maid is secretly drinking up the friso too?

wtan: it's tiring lah but she has 2 maids to help her. & my dad also one kind, keep quarrelling w her in front of the kids & maids. really can't wait till the kids r old enough to go childcare & i don't need their help anymore.

happy weekend mummies.

Olwen, i didn't have a smooth sailing first 3 mths this time was horrible. Bt i was hoping Issac could have some fun with his other peers so thot would be good to arrange a gathering.
Anyway they always say each pregnancy is different now i totally agree.
happy.gif

Babyzel thanks! by the way u sending R to PG is better to take the P jab don't wait. Just my tot...
Bt ya feel v sorry to see Issac taking so many jabs... is like every month there is sure one jab to take.
Jo, i don't think should drink juice on empty tummy... especially for toddlers... then again i am no expert...
