aly_nat,
me attending NCC. paya lebar is a lil too far for me, if not i would love to join in! i had to stay w my girl for awhile the second time coz she was really crying alot. i wonder if me staying with her makes it even harder for her to deal with the separation. hence i try to make a quick "goodbye" whenever i bring her there even tho i can hear her starting to cry as i walk away. *heartache*

playgroup/cc: all mummies here are sending bbs to cc/ playgroup once they reach 18mths? i thought for sending brandon to school when he turns 2.. is that late? no intention for cc.. but enrichment lessons.

2nd child: yeah me also waiting for financially more stable, and when bb can feed himself or do thing himself b4 the second one.. yeah agreed with Dymples, living in SG.. everything is money.. No MONEY NO TALK.. so realistic..

shoes for bb: my bb is learning to walk.. what type of shoes is recommended? i bought him the mothercare shoe, the rubberish one.. but he don like.. i think a bit hot.. can those crocs slip on suit for walkers that are just learning? any recommendations? prefer can air one.. not covered shoes.

Lynn,
i just bot a pair of crocs for my girl as she has been walking for almost 4 months now, but i think its best to invest in a good pair of shoes if your bb is just starting to learn to walk. I bot a pair from Motherswork, really expensive but really soft and fits well. the second pair i got from Colettee. I would also recommend pediped as a first pair of shoes. very nice designs too!

Haru,
Aiyohz... dun say like that. I'm like any mommy out there. I've got my good days... but I do experience what I term as "mommy meltdowns". These are days when I feel sssoo overwhelmed by the stresses at work, handling the home, balancing the finances and then fitting in my children into my already hectic life. Then I start to go berserk and loose my temper at the slightest thing. My poor gals have seem the worse of me and I'm not proud of that. But because I don't any outlet, I end being frustrated with the ones I love the most which ends up hurting them. *sigh* Till today I'm still seeking out the elusive "work-life-children" balance. The struggle goes on...

Lynn,
Baby J has 2 pairs of shoes. She wears Clarks when she goes out and for daily running around, I bot a pair of sandals from Colette. I find getting a good pair of shoes very important because their bones are soft and still malleable at this stage. And I don't want her to end up with "ugly" feet due to wrong fitting shoes.

As for enrichment classes, there is no 'stated' time. It's up to your preference. Some mommies like to start the child early to ensure that the child grows up comfortable interacting with 'strangers'. Whilst other mommies prefer to delay till the child's immune system is more prepared. You can start once both you and baby are ready for it.

Babyzel,
For sun hats, can go to Kiddy Palace, Pumpkin Patch or Mothercare. The taka children's section near the children's shoe section (not baby section) also have some hats. Can go take a look.

Morning all!!

Hi to the new mummies - Darlest and aly_nat!! Me havent been to the forum for sometime...hee today rainy so not much mood in office keke...

Dymples: Ganbatte!! Certainly know what you mean...hiaz I still wonder how to handle 3 kids like u...For me, my poor hb gets the brunt when i am stressed :x But still I know very well I need to work, otherwise I gets even more stressed whole day at home haaa

Lynn: I think no right age...whenever he is ready but i just want to send greg to a playgroup when he turns 18 mths coz I think he is quite spoilt at home by his grandparents and I think he needs to interact more with other kids

mummies, so how do i know whether i bought the right fit of the shoes for my gal? that time when i 1st time buy shoes, the young salesman at the BHG cant help either.. so i just agar agar. & do we need to put on socks when my gal wear her shoes? how do we know whether the shoes is too tight or loose?

glad_gal,
Hi!

Mildy,
I hv not seen Kiddy Palace selling vege tales. U can get them at most christian bookstores. I think the christian books section of Precious Moments shop carries some - but limited titles. I hv a couple of titles, if u r keen, can lend u.

Darlest,
I read somewhere, u measure the tip of the toe to the end bit of the sole, then add 1cm. The layman way is, there must be a finger space btw the shoe n the feet.
If the socks r not thick, then I think makes little difference ba.

Dymples,
I also like shoes from Colette. but must control, quite ex.

Mildy,
check out christianbook.com. most vege tales going for less than US$10. Let me know if u r buying anything from them, maybe can share shipment costs.

darlest,
u try go clarks they will help u find the right size of shoes for your girl.
happy.gif

or u get osh kosh shoes they have a guide for you at the back of the shoes.

dymples: clark and colette? can that use for starter who just learning to walk? my son now using the mothercare shoo shoo brand also not cheap.. very soft. but then hor he don like covered shoes very hot.. got any recommendations? got pic or website to show? he haven yet can walk on his own.. still cruising.

thanks dymples.. i think i will try out 2 hours enrichment classes when he reaches 18mths..

glad_glad: yeah last monday he last day.. he doing level 4.. have no intention to sign him up another round as he seems he didn like it anymore.. i want to bring him more into educational one then just gym. plus i just got a new job so the timing not right. will hunt for a place near my place so my maid can bring him there if i am working..
happy.gif
Greg sign up for it?

hey my post yesterday disappeared!

ah lian, u back!

aly_nat: not sure if the soft seat can fit yours but it's sure a lot cheaper than first few years which is almost 20 bucks when on sale.

dymples: errrr... actually it's my mum who smacked rachel, not my MIL. my MIL doesn't smack my kids.

Lynn,
Yes yes. Clarks & Colette sells those soft types of shoes for babies who are just learning to walk. All ym3 gals first shoes are from Clarks. Sorry no pics. You can get Clarks from almost anywhere. I know they got shops in Suntec, HarbourFront center, and those small 'outlets' in Taka & Isetan. Colette have shops in Great World City, Vivo City, United Square.

Lynn: Nope didnt sign up Gymboree, coz boy didnt seem to appear that keen, but then again, it was his first time lah. Want to explore other enrichment or playgrp sessions..

Jes: Hows ur girl taking it?? Mine cry nearly 1 hr that night when we refused to give him tutu sigh. And hb gave in....say cannot let him cry soo long. We also 'cut' an old tutu infront of him but he didnt get the msg arghhh!

Gladgal, ya expected she did fuss quite a bit on the 1st nite... prior to that we actually showed her the spoilt tutu and threw it in the bin before her sight. i tink she probably got the hint slightly and it was only when she wanna slps that she's started to whine and cry abit, but MIL said she wasn't crying or screaming too badly so we jus let her be lor. fortunately my MIL never gave in, haha

lilian,
FWAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but my girls already took it for some it so long ago... nothing can b done le....so many years then discover. wow raoosss...

Wah... Lucky I never let any of gals take the Rotavirus Jab. So scary leh. Wonder how they could have approved the drug.

Monday, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK: News ) confirmed the presence of material from a virus called PCV-1 in Rotarix, based on which the US Food and Drug Administration has recommended clinicians and public health professionals in U.S. to temporarily suspend the use of its oral rotavirus vaccine.

Rotavirus is the leading cause of severe gastroenteritis among children below five years of age and it is estimated that more than half a million children die of rotavirus gastroenteritis each year. Rotarix is a two-dose, orally-administered vaccine that offers protection against rotavirus to infants from the age of 6 weeks.

Brentford, U.K-based company noted that the material was first detected by US researchers using a novel technique used for looking for viruses, which was confirmed by the additional tests conducted by GlaxoSmithKline.

PCV-1 is a known virus that does not multiply in humans and is not known to cause illness in humans. It is found in everyday meat products and is frequently eaten with no resulting disease or illness.

FDA has also issued a statement confirming that there is no evidence that the finding poses a safety risk based on the excellent safety profile of Rotarix. The vaccine has been produced according to FDA standards as reviewed and approved for US licensure in 2008.

The safety profile of Rotarix is based on extensive clinical data from the largest vaccine clinical trial program conducted by GlaxoSmithKline, enrolling more than 90,000 participants in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the US.

The company said that retrospective testing of Rotarix, using new molecular detection techniques, has confirmed that material from PCV-1 has been present since the initial stages of the vaccine’s development in the cell bank and rotavirus seeds used as base production material.

Worldwide sales of Rotarix recorded in 2009 was 282 million pounds Sterling with US representing 76 million pounds Sterling.

GlaxoSmithKline said it was currently reviewing the best possible ways to replace the cell bank and virus seeds used as base production material. At the same time, in accordance with the regulators, the company will continue to manufacture Rotarix to the existing approved production and quality standards to meet public health needs worldwide.

Meanwhile, the FDA indicated it intends to convene an advisory committee within about four to six weeks, to review the available data and make recommendations on rotavirus vaccines licensed in the USA. – RTT News

Rota:
but it says doesn't affect health lei... so i wont b too concern yet..

Ah lian

Nini ah.. haiz.. stil got a bit runny nose.. jus when cough seems to recover, these couple of days like start coughing a bit again!! i v paranoid now..

hi, thank you so much to all the mummies providing the advise on how to buy shoes for my gal. really apprciate it! hee.. if not im still ignorant. haha..

Hullo! i haven't posted in quite awhile. So busy with work and then i kena accident (again!) last Fri. totally ruined my mood. the damage came up to 1.6K and the person that hit me seems very reluctant to pay up!!

Re: shoes
Lynn, i don't recommend open toes sandals for kids. cos they are always rushing here and there and not watching where they walk. they can hurt their toes if they are not protected. moreover, their bones are especially fragile, plus the fact that there are many small bones in the feet. best to get them covered shoes. they will learn how to adapt.
happy.gif
sometimes we mummies try to anticipate problems but we didn't give our kids a chance to adapt to problems first.
happy.gif
I strongly recommend Combi shoes. they are light (i find Clarkes too heavy) and there is one model that have holes all over, yet protecting the front fragile toes. I like that model so much that i got it in 2 sizes and colours for Z. not warm at all. Mildy and Zelia bought them too.

Darlest, check out Combi. They have 20% off at the Taka bb fair. not sure if they still have. can check it out. Abt $36++ aft discount, much cheaper than Clarkes.

Re: Rotavirus vaccines
I give that to Z too. that's why some mummies are against vaccination becos no matter what we are introducing foreign objects into our kids' bodies. But having said that, if we don't give our kids vaccination, they will die of so many types of illnesses. it is a fine balance lor. for me I delayed MMR but i will def give it. I delay it cos i want Z to be older before giving him that to it.

Did i miss out on anymore interesting discussions? hehe...
